  • I'm finally ready to be completely honest with you all. This is me. I am gay, and I am a Christian.
"This is my story, and I can't let this incredibly crucial part of what God has done in my life cripple me anymore. I am made in the image of my Creator, and yes, I am a fragile, sinful, and broken human being - but my sexuality is not what makes me broken, sinful, or fragile."
There's so many people that I have to acknowledge and thank for helping me on this journey. Your bravery and courage helped pave the way for me, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Oh my, Connor, just over a week ago, I had the blessing of being able to attend a film showing of "When We Rise", the gay history TV mini-series which aired earlier this year, and meet its creator, who also is the Oscar-winning screenwriter of "Milk", Mr. Dustin Lance Black, who was in town with the UK's Olympic diving champion, Tom Daley, on their honeymoon. Dustin is one of the most articulate, intelligent, honest, spontaneous, passionate persons I've ever heard. And now after your video, I can say that you are as well. He would be very proud of you indeed. He too is a gay Christian, in background, as he grew up Mormon, but isn't anymore. Yet he is a man of pure faith in life, and truth. What a beautiful and brave coming out, Connor. As Ebert and Siskel used to say on their classic "At the Movies" TV critics show, "Thumbs up!"

I've read all of the passages you continually post in the comments here many, many times, JD - and done intense study on them. I believe that the Bible needs to be read in context of language, history, science, and culture. These were stories, letters, prophecies, and histories written in an era from one writer to a specific and general audience, and that information needs to be understood in order to fully grasp its holistic meaning.
I've been a Christian for almost 20 years. You can continue to proclaim that I don't understand it, God, and that I am a hypocrite, however the only one that truly looks like a hypocrite here is you - a man who believes they are doing God's work by slandering, defaming, and attacking other people. You can continue to be harsh, judgmental, and rude, but the only effect that your words will have is revealing your true character.
      Here's the deal:
God loves all of His children, and embraces them as they are - gay, straight, black, white, male, female, transgender, intersex, or any of the other beautiful variations in His design. Repeat your narrow-minded hatred as much as you want, but you will not change that.

    • @jdwright841

No here's the deal God loves his children but hates the sin in them which is why we all die Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death and if you don't repent of all your sins before you die will face the eternal flame Rev 21-8, Dude I will never accept you act as "love" because in every context in the word of God clearly condemns same-gender sex, it forbids it, you are the one claiming God created man to marry man and woman another woman is God's intent and that is simply a lie.
You are the calling evil good and good evil Isiah 5:20 Woe unto you in all the twenty years you still have not accepted the truth instead you have tried to twist it to fit your worldly wants and try to force others to accept what you think you're nothing but lying hypocrite and you foolish flawed statement doesn't work on me.
I was born anti-gay and proud God made me this way I oppose you evil "open' defiance" against God's clear law forbidding you vile lust for the same-sex as you oppose God's command of MALE and FEMALE, MAN and WIFE which is what you seek to undo and redefine what you want marriage to be having no authority to do.
Giving someone a warning is not 'judging" them" that' just your excuse because hate to hear the truth that same-gender marriage has no establishment in the Kingdom of heaven 1 Cor 6:9-11, Rev 21-8 and I do not have to "embrace" support, help, stand with you nor for you against the truth that God created them MALE and FEMALE and put them together in love he never said anything about your act.
This has nothing to do with skin color so stop trying to ride that excuse it's a dead horse God doesn't care what color MAN and WIFE are because that what he created them to be God did not create your LGBTQPWXYZ foolishness is a creation of the world due to its disbelief and disobedience Rom 1:23-28 and why this world will pass away 1 John 2:17, no one has a license to sin, no one Rom3;23 All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God that includes the act of same-gender sex.
You can repeat your false prophecy all you want but you will not change God's law which clearly condemns your vile, disgusting, unnatural, detestable, abominable, and wicked lust for the same-sex...Yes I support God's word in Leviticus 20:13, and 18:22 put you all to death.

Hi. I do agree there are brothers and sisters who truly believe in Christ and who love Him and still are fighting against homosexuality. Of course they are welcome in churches and have to be loved. But If we are Christians, we have to believe every single word in the Word of God because even if Jesus didn't pronounce the words himself, he is the one who appointed Paul as apostle. The apostle who wrote in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 "men who practice homosexuality" shall not inherit the kingdom of God. This is hard to read but we have to put our trust in Jesus. The reward is eternity with Him.

Because of your bravery I will be brave too and comment here publicly. I prayed for years and years to become straight. I never got an answer from God, not so much as a peep, even though I often heard and received answers to other prayers, experienced the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life, and had total faith.
I got so distraught about it that I was ready to take my own life at the age of 16. The night before my planned date to kill myself I had a dream that was way more than just a dream. I won’t go into it here, but it saved my life. I saw heaven, I saw my deceased mother, and being of light (an angel or Jesus, not completely sure which) guided me through a series of symbolic places and actions that told me that it wasn’t time yet because I had work to do and He would show me what it was when it was time to show me.
So I chose to live but kept praying desperately for God to change me from gay to straight. Interestingly the “dream” did not address that issue whatsoever even though it was the biggest baddest boogyman in my life and psyche.
Finally when I was 20, a loud voice in my head (telepathic like, not audible) interrupted a very intense praying session (I was alone, begging and pleading for God to “fix” me) and said “HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED THAT YOU ARE PRAYING FOR THE WRONG THING?” I knew it was God, no doubt whatsoever (the sheep know the voice of the Shepherd). I was pacing around at the time and suddenly froze in place in shock. I said out loud “No, I hadn’t. What should I be praying for?”’
He answered in a softer voice, “for My help accepting who I made you to be.”
I was absolutely stunned and shaken to the core. I had never for a moment considered that possibility.

@@HauntinMatthew1969 Ok Matthew. Look you two (Luke Wood and Connorsplace), I'm going to tell you the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, and while obviously you may choose not to believe it, I have such a MASTERFUL understanding of it that I've even been able to teach kids so that they understand the Gospel and NEVER forget it. (Bible verses are used to reference where the ideas of the Gospel comes from.) Here goes:
There is only one way to become a Christian, and enter the Kingdom of Heaven, and that is by believing the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Gospel means "Good News." This "news" informs us of three things
      1 The condition of Mankind
2 Why it is Jesus came to Earth
      3 Living obediently to Jesus
      The Gospel:
      1) The Gospel says that because of sin, both Original and Personal, we deserve to be eternally separated from God. Ever since Adam and Eve, the first humans on Earth, ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, mankind has been unworthy of God's Heavenly Kingdom.
The Lord God commanded the man, saying, "You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die. Genesis 2:16-17ESV
      2) So far this "news" hasn't sounded so good. It's what Jesus did that makes the Gospel "GOOD news." Jesus said he is the ONLY way to the Father. That means we have to believe him if we want to become blameless in the eyes of God.
[Important: In living, Jesus gave us the only life that deserves to inherit God's Kingdom, a life without sin. In dying he TOOK OUR PUNISHMENT FOR US...serving the sentence of an eternity in Hell, with the three days of his death. After the three days of his death, Jesus was resurrected. Once he was resurrected, Jesus FINISHED serving the sentence on our behalf. This is why his resurrection is greatly celebrated; one he rose from the dead, our names were cleared, and he was free to go.]
Jesus lived, died and rose from the dead to make us blameless in the eyes of God.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 ESV
      3) The Gospel would not be complete without the call to live in obedience to Jesus. But wait, if Jesus already did all that, why do we have to obey what he commands in the Holy Bible, INCLUDING repenting from our sins? Jesus said to his disciples:
Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Luke 13:5
Jesus may not have said this word for word but this is what he means by "You MUST repent, or you will like perish."
Think about it, how can we be SAVED, yet continue to live the life we needed SAVING from in the first place? We cannot. THAT'S why repentance is important. Not because it helps us get into Heaven, but it SHOWS we believe that sinning is wrong; that sinning is why people get eternally separated from God.
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:35 ESV
When living the Christian life, that is, when living obediently to Jesus, remember that being loving is of the highest priority!
So there you have it. That's the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, that's how you get into the Kingdom of Heaven. By believing the Gospel, the "Good News" of Jesus, your sins (both original and personal) are ATONED for.
Finally...Why do most Christians believe it is impossible to be "Gay AND Christian?" There are several passages in the Holy Bible condemning this kind of human behavior and calls it sin. You might think, "well I can't stop being attracted to the same gender." I believe it is just as possible for sexual behavior to change just as easily as one's favorite color or favorite song or favorite movie, etc. The decision to live life in obedience to Jesus, and repenting of ALL sins, doesn't have to be made right away. You might decide to live your own life, a life contrary to the life Jesus lived, before someday, finally, making the decision to become a Christian. I can tell you, God waited your whole life for you to live by His laws, I don't see why He wouldn't give you a little more time if it meant you were serious about living for Him.
If you ever doubt what I have written here, I invite you to ask a pastor of a Bible-based church and show them these words.
Good luck, and may God bless you all.

I just came across this Conner, and I'm so damned proud of you I can't put it into words. You're so articulate and so sincere and so thoughtful...it's just really inspiring. What you did here is going to help so many other men, young and old. I am a deeply spiritual person. though not in the sense of any organized religion, but I agree 100% with everything you said. From my perspective, I'm gay because that's how I was build, and I refuse to be ashamed of that any more than I would be ashamed that I have blue eyes. In my view, the Bible, especially the New Testament, has much to offer about how to be a decent person...as do the teachings of the Buddha. The four things you listed at the end of this video ought, in my view, to be mantras for every gay man. Making this video was a brave thing to do, and yes, you may loose a few friends (I did when I came out), but you can now be who you were meant to be and you can flourish and grow and do good fully as that person and that's a wonderful thing. The few people I lost because they weren't OK with, or couldn't adjust to, the idea that I'm gay (I came out at age 69, by the way)...although I still respect and love them, are people I can no longer have (and, honestly, no longer want to have) as a part of my life. There's a kind, loving way to get this across to them, and that's the right thing to do for you and them. You my be surprised, though, as I was, at how very few people react negatively; I hope that's the case. You're also a very beautiful & sincere & smart young man, and I believe you have a bright & wonderful future as a gay Christian ahead of you. Again: congratulations & thanks for the joy & inspiration this video has brought to me and, I'm sure, to many others.

Thank you for recommending Kathy Baldock 's video - I watched the entire thing and I very much admire this woman's dedication to understanding the context, language, and history involved here.
On one hand, it's both sad and horrifying that so many people love God to the extent that they're willing to hate on His benevolent behalf, even though He asks us to love one another. Yet on the other hand, I can't argue that the hatred is due to any lack of love for Him. It's due to a twisted, perverted propaganda that translated His good word into something cruel and wretched... I can't fault the Christians who fall for that misguided deception - they're doing what they can to stay loyal to what they believe is God's will. I can't condemn them for that; their intentions are good even if their words are cruel.
However as more people come forward and stand as examples of loving, honest, admiring, romantic homosexuals, I think we can undo the perversion of God's will that the political propaganda has done over history. To everyone who loves God and fears deceptive devils: look no further than someone who asks you to hate and condemn others in the name of a God who loves and forgives His children.

@ConnorsPlace And our opinion clearly agrees with Biblical ethics:
“5 “It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. 6 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 8 and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” - Mark 10
This is Jesus quoting a timeless principle from Genesis on God’s purpose for Marriage to overrule Moses’ law allowing Divorce.

Ali Ginchak I admit I lost my cool, but I get so sick of “Christians” thinking they have the right to tell others who they can and can’t be. If a homosexual can’t be a Christian, then a sinner can’t be a Christian. We all fall short. Sick of Christians attacking me instead of the ones that just judge judge judge. You can be gay and Christian, as long as you have a childlike faith in Jesus and are open to allowing him to change you. You don’t repent to get saved. The churches have it all wrong. Only Jesus can make one free of sin. We are going to be sinners until the day we die whether it is habitual sin or slipping up once in a while. so stop being a bunch of hypocrites because someone else’s sin is different than yours. It’s nonsense! Churches try to say you need works to be saved because they fear that people will do whatever they want since they’re saved. And last time I checked, only Gods name in vain is a sin, and I most definitely don’t do that!

    • @evanc3160
      @evanc3160 5 лет назад

Ali Ginchak I most certainly do know what a true Christian is. It’s a follower of Jesus that shows love and compassion. Not someone with a hardened heart that goes around judging others. Yes, God is just, but HE is also loving. And just because someone doesn’t believe the same as you, doesn’t automatically mean they aren’t a Christian or that they’re hellbound.

    Hi Connor
Amazingly graceful presentation authentic and from your heart - I commented three years ago but hopefully I too now have grown a little in grace - trying to understand the beauty within a gay relationship - coming out is a process not an event - God is love - love between men can be real - I need to trust God within love and realise he created me for a reason - we need to love and appreciate how God has created us so we can love another - perhaps that takes time - finding love can be daunting but God loves us.
I have a sense of appreciating the balance hidden within me the creativity and yes I love singing too not least for God
One can relent about lost years but that is fruitless
    God bless you Connor

Hello Connor. I have discovered over the years that any and all positions can be "proved right". Ultimately, it comes down to a personal decision. Just as when we accept Christ. True Love drives true bravery. Just as it did (does) with God and Jesus. The personal decision to do what you did in this video. Braver love has no human being than laying down his/her life for others. You have put your life on the line financially, materially, emotionally and physically. That's not what your average televangelist does. Brave Christian Love gives of self for the gain of others and is a testament to Christ's love.

Everything was about the church and the church views. If the church knew I was gay back then, I would of been asked to leave. I truly feel sorry for BOTH parties. The guys that were asked to leave the church and not return. But even more so the church members. If we read into the Bible, everyone knows that we are made in gods image. He choice us for this track in life. why would you willing push someone away from a church just because they are gay?

Sorry, but you need to repent. You can't be a gay Christian any more than you can be a Christian adulterer, or Christian bank robber, or Christian kidnapper or on and on. Here is what the Bible says about homosexuality. Leviticus 18:22 says, "Do not have sex with a man as with a woman; that is DETESTABLE. Romans 1:27 says, "In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed SHAMEFUL acts with other men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error." 1st Timothy 1:10 says, "... sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality...and liars and perjurers-and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine." 1st Corinthians 6:9-11 says, "Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." This is where a Christian who really believes the Bible to be God's word, must warn the homosexual what God actually says about homosexuality. If you love the homosexual, how could you possibly not warn him/her about what they will face on Judgment Day if they don't turn to Jesus Christ and repent (walk away from sin.) That goes for adultery, lying, stealing, drugs, drunkenness, and every other sin God warns us about. Also, every single verse about marriage is ALWAYS between a man and his WIFE or a woman and her HUSBAND. NEVER a man and his husband or a woman and her wife.

I needed this thank you. I came out to my mum about a month ago, but she is really unhappy about my sexuality. I felt so alone and trapped but this makes me feel like I'm not the only one. This is the first video I've seen by you but I instantly subscribed. I am out to my school friends but my mum wouldn't even let me read the autobiography of a gay person. I had to read coming out guides in secret. Thank you thank you thank you ☺️💚🌈⛪️

Hey dude. This is the first video of yours i've seen (i'm suscribing 💜) thank you for making this video to tell other people about your story and to lead them to a historical viewpoint of why you believe this. I'm definatly gonna check out the video you recomended. I've heard that people i'm around a lot and respected as a person and potential friend bash this community, but now i can use you imformation to try to educate them about trashing people for who they are. Your honesty and courage are a blessing! Thank you for talking about this very relevant and controversial matter. To be honest, the homosexual matter in relation to how God's people are supposed to be handling it is still a bit baffling to me, and saddening to see (I mean how God's people/church are treating them). We have to educate ourselves more in the area of love and at the same time applying truth with love.
With my limited knowledge on this, all I can really say is, I am not God so I am not in the position to judge.
Thank you Connor for sharing your life, your talents, and how beautifully God is working in you my brother. Everyone has issues, I have mine, too. Only God knows, and I am thankful that only He truly knows. Indeed it is only God's grace that sustains us. Your songs, Connor, tells of the depth of God's love for you. Thank you so much. I’m a Christian and have identified as heterosexual for 17 years. When I learned of what the Bible said from my parents, I remember crying. I was devastated that a loving God would condemn someone for loving another that was the same gender.
    I never got over it.
Eventually, I finally read parts of the Bible and assumed that historical context and hundreds of translations had twisted the real meaning. I decided that I believed, tentatively, that it was not a sin.
I later would watch and hear about people of the LGBT community abused, belittled, even just joked about and disrespected behind their backs, and it would kill me inside. I didn’t like that people couldn’t understand God the way that I thought I did. And I was also scared that maybe I was wrong.
    Anyway. To my main point.
I have been writing a project for two years. For my family and for, well anyone. I’m not saying this to brag or anything; I just want to convey that I have always believed that God gave me writing to share what needed to be shared with people, to help them. And I decided to go a little against my very religiously biased family and write entirely about religion and how its misuse affects those of the LGBT community.
I’m now in college, I’m 19, and I identify as asexual and tentatively biromantic.
I didn’t know that I needed to hear that Christians had found the true meaning of God’s plan for those in this community and that I don’t have to feel this guilt anymore with my family, with my writing, with anything. I feel like I can finally be closer to God and to others who are going through something like this.
I sincerely hope that others find this video and its meaning, and I wish you the best of luck in all that you do 😊
    Thank you again ❤️

Hi Connor, stumbled on the CBU music videos about two weeks ago and have become addicted. Powerful witness like I seldom enjoy. Also enjoy following comments and among many I plugged into your site. Your video (Gay+Christian) brings to memory an event in my personal life that has some similarities. While I am straight and happily married to a female believer, my life has not been without serious challenges. Short story long and without going into details I discovered late a fact that I learned way too late. Didn't learn it in westernized churchanity. Here it is in a nutshell. Two gods in the universe. One is capital G. The other is small g. God with the capital g is the big guy. the little god is no match for the big God BUT I am no match for the little god. He's bigger than I ever dreamed. Here's the tricky part. This little dude g pulled a big one on me. He transformed himself into an angel of light and seriously confused me. For a lot of years I thought I was listening to the big God when after almost losing everything eternal I found out that I was actually listening to the wrong god. Little god is a shrewd impostor that can act and sound so much like big God that I was completely fooled. Little god lied to me over and over. Here's what I didn't learn in church. - Spiritual warfare-
... Plain and simple. The WAR IS RAGING Fatalities are going to be high. Looks like it's been over a year now since your video post so I'm a bit late. I would like to be counted among your best friends. Sincerely from the East coast.

Hi Conner!! So, I watched this video the day it went on RUclips and it has been on my mind until now. I am a Christian. But I don't agree with what you are saying in the video. I don't support homosexuality. But that doesn't mean that I hate you or that I think you are a bad human being! It just really got to me what you said about homosexuality in the Bible not referring to homosexuality today.
You see, the Bible is nothing less than the inspired word of God. The Bible is 100% truth. In Leviticus 20:13 it says that 'If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination.'
No where in the Bible does it say, 'oh but if 2 men want to be together and they love eachother thats okay'. No, this verse is talking about the whole of homosexuality, whether it is love or not.
I think you are really talented and I still like you even though we have different opinions! I hope you can consider my points and know that I will be praying for you! Jesus still loves you Conner but can't love the path you have chosen.

    • @connorsmithmusic
      @connorsmithmusic  7 лет назад

Hi Lauren! I appreciate your loving approach to your disagreement, but this isn't a "path that I have chosen." I never chose to be gay...it's just a fact of life. As strongly as I can, I want to encourage you to watch Kathy Baldock's Untangling the Mess. It's about 1.5 hours, but so informative. If you don't have that much time, this is a different, shorter video that goes into some brief, surface level history and context. ruclips.net/video/leIcLYj3I3U/видео.html

I am late to this video but it speaks so much to me. I am an older gay man who came out to myself in 1985 while at college and my parents were told by a person trying to be mean. At the time my parents who are christian and so am I who went to church most every week they were paying for my college education. Even though we didn't really talk about it, there acceptance of me was the fact that they didn't stop my college funding. I am thankful for their acceptance of me. I am still a Christian but these days I am scared by the "Don't say Gay" and Book Bands and even burning by so called Christians. I want the love of Jesus Christ for the marginalized like Mary Maglenin

hello. my name is adam and I'm 13 years old. i have grew up with my parents telling me that being gay is a sin. i have been told by my parents that they will kick me out of my house is i ever become gay. i regularly play the piano at church for the youth and feel called to do that. I am very worried the if i tell anyone in my family or my church community that I'm gay, they will loose trust in me and not let me do what i was called to do in the church. this video has inspired me to believe that gays can be christians too. i am going through the same things as you are. my school life isn't really good either. i have been made fun of by people who call me gay. although it is true that I'm gay, i don't want no one to know because i am afraid of what kids at school and others will think. i have even gone so far as to date a girl at school because i wanted people to think that i wasn't gay just so they would stop bullying me. i am going thru a lot right now. do you know any advice for me that will help?

    • @connorsmithmusic
      @connorsmithmusic  7 лет назад

Hi Adam! I'm really sorry to hear about your situation, as it's one that I'm very familiar with myself. First and foremost, it's important that if you feel like you would be in physical danger for coming out, that you don't. As tough as it can be emotionally and mentally to be pressured into staying in the closet, your physical well-being is more important! Don't listen to the bullies at school. They are completely clueless, and the pain that they try to cause you will come back to haunt them. Remember that you are stronger than they say you are, and that God's love for you is not dictated by human beings. You are valued and you are loved far beyond how much anyone could ever try to devalue you. Stay strong, and know that there are tons of people out there that care about you, and will be there for you. :)

adam streetman : Connors advice to stay safe and wait, is best. You know who you are and only you know about your relationship with God. Our relationships with God/Jesus is of extraordinary spiritual intimacy. As is our journey with Jesus. Each human beings journey with God is unique-one of a kind. But we are all going to eventually have to share in Jesus suffering. It's not easy by a long stretch. But it's the greatest profession of our love for God. It's a truly heartfelt journey. Love has that characteristic. Some human beings will do evil to you by word and/or deed. Such as what you are going thru with school peers. Good human beings will suffer for others out of love. A parent who gladly goes hungry so his child can eat. A brother who happily defends his handicapped brother from bullies even when he knows it gonna hurt. When a man comes to the aid of a woman who cries out she is being raped. Even when it looks very much like he may get hurt. A thirteen old whose heartfelt love for God brings out the bible and reads something out of the new testament. For God so loved the world. . . . . let your Christian walk be a testament that gays can be Christians too. Only your father in heaven knows your gay. But that is OK. The angels will sing.

As A Committed Christian, I encourage you truly to just focus on God's plans for your life and to Surrender your plans to follow His plans (Proverbs 29:11, Psalm 37:4) Also the best way to please God is to follow the first command To live Him with All your heart mind and soul (Matthew 22:37-38) Make sure to put your identity in Christ before your identity in your sexuaity (Galatians 5:16) And remember, God answers prayers in His timing.
