    Compare those numbers to Nylander or Brad Marchant and lets see, who is worth their money???

    Marner has a no trade contract. If the Leafs make him angry by not giving him the term and the dollars he wants, he can refuse a trade and walk at the end of the contract. Why would he want to help the Leafs if they turn their backs on him? (Remember Sundin)
    The mistake management made was not the dollar amount it was the no-trade clause.

    He’s a really good hockey player. He’s just making $2.5m more than would be ideal. Then when you consider there’s several other guys with too high of cap hit, you get an underwhelming, unstable build that needs the stars to align to go on a deep playoff run…

      Marner has become this postseason as much of a bust as in regular-season play Nail Yakupov, picked first overall in his draft year by the Oilers, did. Although before Yakupov would, longer term than during the 2012-13 AHL-CHL-ECHL-KHL-NHL season, decide to take his hockey career back home, he was never offered, on a given NHL contract, full no-move clause:
      - Marner was, and willingly accepted, making him hard to move but not impossible because the be will have to wave that NMC for the Leafs to move him
      - Yakupov never reached his 27th birthday before that long-term move of his back home after limited interest from NHL teams for which he had already played although had even eligible to be offered a restriction on the ability to move him, I don't think any NHL team would have been stupid enough to offer him such a restriction

    Marner is a $3M player in the playoffs.

  • @oldman8952
    @oldman8952 13 дней назад +2

    It is a bigger problem for the Leafs than for Marner. Marner is the guy they depend on for everything. Look who they have going up against McAvoy and Pastrnak. If they move on from Marner who is going to get that matchup? Nylander? He has to play third line competition every year in the playoffs. Kampf, if he could do it he would be doing it now. I guess that leaves Matthews. But he has 3 points in 3 games playing against Coyle, Geekie and 35 year old Brad Marchand. Last game he couldn't even handle that matchup. Does anyone think he will be PPG player facing the Bruins real stars? History says no.
    And that leaves Marner as a 90 point plus Selkie candidate, two time number one all star. He will have his pick of teams as a UFA. Depending where he goes he can take a lower salary and still have more money when he cashes his checks. If Marner goes he will have his pick of contenders and the Leafs will be facing another rebuild carrying the Nylander contract like an albatross.
    That said, Raycroft is right, the Toronto media is cancerous and they may drive him out of town.

PS; dont ever compare nylander and matthews to mitch marner. youre kidding yourself.

    • @oldman8952
      @oldman8952 12 дней назад

      @@dbo3027 Marner is a playmaking Selkie candidate, not a goal scorer. That is why he is plus nine vs the toughest competition, while Matthews is plus 2 only playing tough competition if he has Marner's help and Nylander is minus 1 playing heavily sheltered minutes. As for playing a playoff game. Nylander has 33 playoff hits and Marner has 69. More than twice as many as Nylander. Now here Matthews is clearly better, 157 hits, more than 4 times more than Nylander, but if you are the least little bit honest, Matthews doesn't hit like a 6 3 215 pound man should.
      Can't compare Matthews and Nylander to Marner. Perhaps you are right. Marner has been playing against the best in the league for years while Nylander has always been sheltered. Matthews gets sheltered unless he has Marner to help him. Just look at this year. Matthews gets the Coyle line and a second pair and he has underperformed against that matchup two out of three games. Marner is playing with a 3C and a rookie and he is getting the toughest matchup every shift, the Zacha line with Pastrnak and McAvoy on D. What does it say when other teams get their best Dmen out against Marner and let the also rans take care of Matthews? Oh, results 5v5 Pastrnak has a goal and McAvoy has an assist. Knies has a goal and Marner has an assist. The assist was tough but the goal was a tap in. That is a wash. I guess Pastrnak and McAvoy aren't worth their salaries either.
      If you want to argue that Marner isn't worth 10.9, there is room for a discussion there. I think Dubas bungled all the RFA contracts, but if you want to make that argument, Matthews with easier matchups and fewer points isn't worth his salary either. Nylander, who has to be heavily sheltered because he can't be trusted to play against good players isn't worth any more than the 6.9 he is getting now.
