Just viewed your 'Moving My Studio' video and realized that the Hurricane Helene path included the mountains of North Carolina. I hope that your family is safe.

Enjoyed your video! And I eventually tried this on a couple of panels and had the same result with both: both were fine after 24 hours with weight applied, and for a day or so after, but then air bubbles appeared 2 to 4 inches from one or more of the edges. I thought I used plenty of GAC100 and spent a considerable amount of time getting any residual air out with a brayer, but within a few days air bubbles showed up. From your experience, what might be the possible cause? GAC 100 issue? Too little or too much? Thanks for your help!

With Baltic Birch plywood being hard to find or very expensive these days, have you tried any alternatives?
I've heard Maple or Birch veneered reinforced globulus plywood is a good substitute, but I haven't tried anything. I still have some Baltic Birch plywood, but it will all eventually be used. Just trying to look ahead.

Russ, how long do you let the Gesso dry prior to applying the canvas or linen material?

Hey Steve. It really depends on the environment and how thick your gesso is, but usually it doesn't take more than an hour at most. Sometimes I help it along with a hairdryer.

whats the point to apply canvas over panel?

In general, a sturdier painting surface. In my case specifically, I often have to ship paintings to buyers and shows out west where the climate is drier than my home in the hot, humid southeast. If my canvases are not mounted on a sturdy surface (i.e. something better than traditional stretcher bars) they relax dramatically and flop around like sails by the time they get to their destinations out west.
