  • Make sure that the gun is safe and not loaded before starting work. Stay safe.
    Note to RUclips - This is a UK legal spring powered air rifle, you do not need to impose an age restriction on this video or demonetise it.
    I bought this rifle second hand and I found it rather underwhelming. I'm going to try and improve it by working on the trigger and spring, along with other jobs as we go along.

    Mine was a bit harsh on mine it’s better now just needs more adjustment 👍🏻

      They do respond well to some work, but really at the price they should be perfect from the factory.
      That said, now mine has been rebuilt I wouldn't part with it, it shoots as good as it looks.

    Love BSA’s, just bought my first German gun, a HW98 in 1.77, heard all good stories about the branch but first impressions are pretty poor out of the box. No where near pellet on pellet as I seem to read a lot, must have shot at least 500 pellets through it and it’s still poor. Booked it in for a tune in a well known shop so hopefully it will be better once that’s done, love the look of the 98 that’s the only reason I’m hanging on to it

      Hello, thank you for your comment. Sorry to hear that your HW98 isn't giving it's best.
      I'm a real fan of the HW98, mine is an older one, I'm hearing reports that the newer Weihrauchs do seem a bit inconsistent.
      My HW98 gives its best with Crosman Premier Match (flat head pellets). H&N FTT are close behind. RWS Superdome don't suit it, neither do Air Arms. I've just bought some JSB pellets, haven't tried them yet.
      It is very hold fussy, if I'm shooting it I only take that to the range so I ensure correct technique.
      Hope yours is sorted after the tune up.

      You’ll probably need a TBT kit in it to short stroke it.

    I bought my BSA Lightning brand new and the trigger is terrible. I've also been on several rifle forums where everyone is saying the same. I'm presently searching to see if an upgraded trigger can be fitted, preferably a Weihrauch trigger.

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  2 года назад

      They are really bad, especially considering the (sponsored?) reviews that say the triggers are excellent...
      I'm looking at a trigger meant for Gamo rifles, the GRT-4G. IF it fits it should improve it no-end. Need to do more research first, ideally dismantling a GAMO trigger unit to compare the blades.

      @@nickvending9688 Is the GRT-4G a metal trigger?

    does a short barrel = a long barrel for power/ acuracy.ect

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  2 года назад

      The rifle briefly put out power way beyond the UK legal limit, but accuracy was poor. It now runs around 10.5ftlb and is extremely accurate at 25-30yards.
      If it was a proper firearm e.g. .308 I'd always rather have a longer barrel for more velocity. Minimum 24inches, ideally 26. I never had success at long range with anything shorter.

      Hmm, Lightning trigger. Yep, definitely a tricky one. I tried to fit the GRT 4G trigger - it didn't go well.

    To be fair you would of been better to look for a supersport bit older but better quality by far, still got my superstar. 22 from 91 which cost about £152 from j s Ramsbottom back in the day

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  2 года назад

      Can't argue with you there. I was seduced by the good looks if this rifle, thankfully I bought it second hand not brand new, I'd have been seriously upset if I'd paid over £300 for it!
      The rifle did come good in the end, but I'm under no delusions that modern BSAs are the same quality as older pre takeover rifles. This rifle will not withstand the test of time, it is going to need another rebuild eventually as the cheap internals wear out.

    Nick, what are your thought on the barrel pivot pins ? Are they an issue with regards to becoming loose as there’s no way of tightening the jaws up?

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  Год назад +1

      Hello, thank you for your comment.
      The pins do wear, mine had to be replaced in a later episode.
      It is a cheap part and a quick job to replace it, but personally I would rather have seen a proper system like Weihrauch and indeed even Gamo use.
      The BSA Lightning is sold at a premium price, but the components don't live up to the price tag.
      Before the rebuild my Lightning was a terrible gun and I regretted buying it.
      After the rebuild it shoots very well, but I only like the gun rather than love it.

      @@nickvending9688 thanks for the reply Nick. So do you think the pins are of a softer material designed to wear and be replaced rather than the pivot hole wearing ?

      @@nickvending9688 I bought the 22 version that was doing 11.4 ft lbs but took it back caus it wouldn't group at all, they offered me another 22 that was only doing 10.5 ft lbs so I turned it down. Rack and load did a vidio on it shooting at 80 yard and hitting the target 🤷 not bad ide say. I honestly think that £300 is far too much money for them, just not worth it. If you are set on a gas ram then I would seriously consider saving for a HW90. I am trying to save up for one, it isn't easy (always something else that needs money spending on it).
