That lightning is a lovely looking gun, but I have heard they have reliability issues, as in quality control on gun runs as well as niggles that can be particular to a gun such as low power and wear at the barrel hinge mechanism with them having no adjustment. I was tempted to buy one a while back but opted for the HW95K instead which was only £60 more. I think that little VMX held its own accuracy-wise based on this video and it is probably pushing out more power too. Either way, it looks like you enjoyed yourself, which can't be bad.
Thanks for commenting Anthony, you’re right in that the power is a tad lacking in both of these guns of mine at around 10 ft/lbs. I’m happy with that as I do not shoot vermin. Enjoy your HW and our hobby. That’s what it’s all about.
@Ian Mangham Well, for the extra bit of money, I would definitely go for the HW95K as opposed to the 99. I love mine and I think as an all-rounder they are hard to beat.
@Ian Mangham Hmm! I think the internals are probably pretty similar tbh with the 99s being of slightly reduced power. I much prefer the looks of the 95K and am not too sure on that cheek piece design on the 99s which makes it look very like a Walther Terrus in my opinion. No doubting the 99S is a nice and popular gun, but it must be £100 cheaper for a reason. Moderator on a 95K is worth about £50 isn't it?
@@Villageboyairguns I hope I still have the same gusto for it when I get down the line to my 70s, it's not boring at all and glad to see you shoot such a selection of airguns!
Mate its a lovelly video. I Got a VMX in .177 and i can cover a 2 p coin Frombork 40 Yards with no wind... I've Beenhakker looking at some Hatsan rifles but they got some bad reviews
Just spotted a safety issue in your video. You cocked and loaded your rifle then walked in front of it to place a target down range. Never stand in front of a live weapon. Always make sure it’s clear and empty before going down range to set up targets.
my advice is don't ,get a hw 99s instead, never shot a lighting that would group better than an inch at 20 yards,(After fettling) my hw will easily do 5p sized groups at that range, if you are determined to get the bsa go for an early brum built supersport full lenth barrel much better nuilt & better barrels by far, mine would match my hw if i did my part, they all need a loose hold for consistent groups though, rested is usually worse with them best shot off the shoulder .
I have a BSA VMX in a Beech stock. It is for the money simple, well constructed and tough. The Gas Ram looks even better. But somehow I think my pennies spent on the VMX were wisely spent. Like another stories of reliability issues have curbed any enthusiasm which is a shame.
Taken my bsa lighting to the range today 40 yards 500 pellets dien it .. if anything would of happened it would of done so by now... its just awesome... i really want to buy him a gun rest lol. A tool box and a bag come on 😅 Remember its not a pcp so use a litlle hold under . And dont ram it in your shoulder aswell
Cheers pal, if only the wooden stocks would stay pristine, no matter how careful I am in transit and on my permission, the knocks to the varnish really p’s me off. There’s a lot to be said for the stocks like on your Lightning. Thanks for commenting and subscribing. Not looking forward to a lead ban, but like everything else we shall have to pay up and put up with whatever occurs.
@@Villageboyairguns yeah your right, bsa made some beautiful stocks, airsporter s, challenger, mercury s, hornet, but the synthetic stocks are very useful for a farm gun, we'll just have to wait and see what happens with lead but it's not gonna stop me from shooting. 👍
@@Villageboyairguns I have SE GRT XL version. Or the one with the long name love it. After 3 years. It looks feels a shoots like new. Very accurate and very solid. my lightning is superb 🇬🇧
So is mine !!
Great video John! Nice to see someone just having some back garden plinking fun, I had real success with the RWS pellets in my lightening GRT
Cheers Tom, yes, still enthusiastic and capable of low cost harmless fun at seventy three.

Been fancying a GRT for a while, might have to add one to the collection after watching this. Cheers 👍
It’s a great gun, if you remember it needs a light hold. Just support it. Don’t hang into it.
@@Villageboyairguns I used to have a tactical XL in .22 that was pretty snappy too, let it go when thinning the collection and wish I hadn’t

Good honest revue Keep it up john
I am just going to find something a little bit more interesting to do, I’ve just painted a bit of wood, I shall sit and watch it dry.

Nice review. Is the webley spring or gas ramp?
The webley is a twangy springer Peter.
