First - thank you - very helpful! That plug and the wires in it - HOW to release them easily: 1 - That plastic release clip will NOT come out if there are any wires in the top row - as they pass through it. It just needs to lift up a tad with a very small flat head - it'll 'pop' in the unlock position. 2 - To release the wires - look at the end of the plug - you'll see small rectangular slots (where the rear-view mirror pins go) and other slots that look like a stepped pyramid (where you release the connectors/wires) - there is no release spring on the connector itself - the release is on the black plug and is plastic - The release snap is at the top of that pyramid - you have to stick a small, sharp release pin into the top of the pyramid and lift the plastic retention clip off the metal connector. - if you do it right, the wire/connectors will slide right out with ease. Hopefully that helps someone - like many things, once you know the trick, it's easy =)
The mirror in my 04 Silverado had all the wires in the pigtail already but only was equipped with a regular mirror and no temp sensor under the grill. So I spliced into the harness green/white and black/white, mounted a temp sensor in front of the radiator core and ran my wire. I used heat shrink and wire loom , looks like it was always there.
I’m in the same boat as you! Have the pigtail from the factory with all the wiring needed, just no temp sensors. I’m currently trying to add the sensor but the wires are hard to distinguish. Do you have a wiring diagram?
What powers the mirror? The two wires you brought from the sensor is 1.) signal. 2.) ground. I’m assuming the mirrors powers the sensor outside to read and interpret data 2.) how do you wire for dimming function?
6:38 ... exact same plug, color of wires and number as my 2005 gmc sierra 1500 truck, my instalation with just mirror yours, except for the placement of the ambient temp sensor. Figure i'll place mine in the factory location as GM intended and see how that works, i've seen one of two places, one location is on the "A" looking support in front of the radiator just behind the front grill and the other is under the turn signal light on the passenger side, theres factory made holes located in each of the support brackets.
Ya I had it behind it kept picking up heat from the engine. I've also heard of factory sensors mounted low will pick up a heat reading from heat soaked pavement.
Do you know if there's a way to test the sensor? The direction and temp spot on my mirror dont light up. I'm not sure if it would read 0C or stay blank like mine if the actual sensor goes bad
@@AnthonyJ350 do I need to? Looks like it is already wired--just those features aren't working. Nothing in the box where the temp should be. Would I need to add additional power? (I just bought this truck)
sensors like this operate based on the resistance. the temperature read affects the resistance the mirror reads. in other words, there are 2 wires connected to the mirror that make a loop with the sensor.
Do you know why my temp display would be entirely lit up like when you first power it up? It never shows temp or direction, it is stuck on the startup display where everything is lit up.
Hey stupid I'm trying to learn about how to take the cover off my mirror so I can replace the ambient temperature since I don't care about the front of a vehicle

2.) how do you wire for dimming function?
1) This video will explain that part ruclips.net/video/ATtvjpvWSkg/видео.html 2) There is a photo sensor for the dimming function.
Ive been looking for somebody to wire in a 03-07 truck thank you i need to get the pins and im done
Nice, glad it helped!
You stated your using spots 6 and 7. What wires from the sensor goes in in 6 and 7? Thx
Only 2 wires from the sensor, doesn't matter which ones you use.

@@AnthonyJ350 would the sensor be in this same spot for a 2002 Tahoe LS?
Hi, great video and info, is there any chance to share the link to the wiring diagram??
Thanks, I used a diagram off ALL Data.
Nice video so from the sensor to the mirror for them temp reading is only 2 wires? I want to do this to my 2006 chevy express
Yup, just two wires to the sensor.
Thank you bro, I have been waiting for this video for so long, but it was definitely worth the wait.
Were you able to get it working?
I’m trying to do this and I’m wondering witch wire goes from the sensor to pin 6 and what wire from the sensor goes to pin 7
Which part of the video are you referring to?
I bought a mirror with compass and temp and neither turn on. The airbag works but that’s it. Any idea why?
Did the mirror come with a plug with wires attached that were cut?
AnthonyJ350 yes, I plugged it on to the existing harness and nothing. Do I need to swap the harness?
@@2301juanramirez Did the other harness the mirror come with, have more wires?
AnthonyJ350 yea a lot more it has onstar.
@@2301juanramirez The mirror might not be getting ignition power. It might be separate for the compass vs the airbag light indicator.
How did you de-pin/remove the white retaining clip from the donor harness?
Small picks or depinning tools.
I found temp sensors closer to the ground are prone to heat soak as well.
Thanks for sharing!

Alldata or Google search
does this also give you the compass or just the temperature?
As soon as it gets power the compass will work.
@@AnthonyJ350 so the compass is in the temperature sensor?

Might need a new mirror, you can try disconnecting the negative battery terminal for a few minutes and resetting the system.
To check this if working can you tell me where is the fuse located at
Fuse for the mirror? What year is your truck because you should have power up there already.
On my car, the outside temp sensor is built into the underside of right mirror. Interesting
Thanks for sharing!
Where did you buy the wire harness? Great video.
Titan92 Just searched on eBay.
You don’t mention where you grounded the sensor or the mirror
Anywhere to chassis
The Ebay link is no longer valid.
Sorry, will fix it
Nice video. Though I nice place to put that temp sensor is either in the outside mirror housing ore under in your bumper.
Anyway thanks for the vid.
