My temperature gauge was stuck on 73 degrees, even when it was 90 outside, so my AC wouldn't cool the cabin anymore than if it was 73 degrees outside. Occasionally it would kick in and I could see the temperature gauge climb instantly, and the air was again nice and cool. So I knew it was the ambient temperature sensor and not my AC system needing to be charged. Your video showed where to easily locate and replace it, total cost $18...saved me hundreds compared to what a dealership would have charged to diagnose, charge system, re-diagnose, etc. Thanks for making a great video!
Replaced and fixed both the sensor and sensor connector because both were missing on my 2016 Nissan Maxima. I had no AC at all even with manual turning it on as someone suggested it should still work, but it doesn't -- well not on the Maxima anyways. It also gave me a change to get in there to fix the sonar sensors and the fog lights that fell into the front bumper. Thanks for the information.....
Thanks for confirming how to test the sensor. As in your video mine is good also but my dash still shows that icy conditions are possible. I am testing the wiring and get 5 volts to the sensor. Is this normal? Sometimes the fault goes away while driving and my Compressor will turn on and cold air comes out. Then it will kick back out and usually I will catch the message popping back up on my dash. I think it's possible that I have a short or bad connection somewhere.
Thank you! you just saved me 100.00+ dollars mine went bad and I was just about to take to the a/c shop and they wanted over hundred dollars just to look at it,plus maybe unther hundred to fix it!
To try to reset sensor you can disconnect both terminals on battery next touch them together for a couple of seconds then reconnect battery check readout . It worked for me
Mine is stuck at a temp no matter if it's unplugged or not. I disconnect my battery and still same thing even reset the speedometer by holding select/reset
Maybe bc I don't have that sensor plug in and I'm having the same issue....but sometime could be a lil sensor on the compressor name flow sensor ..... Easy to replace too..
Can't find this sensor on my Acura RSX. I found where I think it should be but it's not there. I scan the AC system and it shows a code for it. The heater doesn't work when cold for awhile. Where on earth is that sensor!!!?
Anyone know where the air filter temp sensor is on the 2006 Mdx,it's shaped like a fat syringe it's all black,I can't find ANY video or exact instruction schematics???they say its in the air filter "housing" help
Great video thanks for that info, I have a 2012 nissan altima a/c is freezing up, works good for about 15 minutes and then it won't blow at all, have to wait another 5 to 10 minutes for a/c start blowing cold air again, wonder if i replace that semsor it would solve my problem, thanks for that video it really help a lot.
Might be your evaporator temperature sensor. Like the name, it is inside your car on or near the evaporator. When your evaporator gets too cold, it cuts the compressor to keep it from freezing over, but if it is defective it can't do that. But your system will also have a hard time preventing freezing if the system is not working properly, such as if the pressures are off. Take it to a specialist and have them check your pressures first, you could just be low on gas. If fine, then check the evaporator sensor.
Are those supposed to be water resistant right?? Every time it rains or when I go to a car wash my cars AC stops working... Any other time works perfect
this sensor is for auto AC mode to adjust the blower speed, and also to show you the outside temp. it's pretty much never in the circuit that controls the AC compressor. i.e the AC still turns on in zero degree winter (cos not used all winter is bad and wear seals, and heater still works in summer(bleeding air from cooling system).
exactly what I was thinking. my hot is not your hot so why should I be restricted fro using my AC? a fat guy in Siberia will feel 79 degree weather a lot different from a skinny guy in Arizona
Of my maxima a33, with autonatic climasystem , i got not heat before adust innertemprature to 30-32 g celius, of heatswith on, and under this temprature its was cold air like ac funkition , and the coolfan spinning all time , so too day i remove the ambientsensor , start my car and see how the tempeature was , thats feel normaly heathing upp innside of the car, and the coolfans not spinning all time enymore , just start with 95 g celius , when its normaly Im tested the sensor and was 3, 2 omh and heatet up to 1, 2 ohm and tested on my car and collfans start too spinn and ac clucth been conected , so i think i replement the sensor
I need help my a.c. air on hot days is not cold enough but today it was cloudly and I drove about a 30 minute trip and it was cold. Why on hot days it. Won't be as cold and when the truck is just idling its turn to just cool air not cold at all.Was just freoned up.clutch working pulled in and running all the time. What sensor could it be .The auto parts man sold me a plug senson that he said screws in radiator but I font see that in my radiator.plese help and send me a notification if possible with response.
I have the same exact issue. Freon was done by dealer. They diagnosed me with a bad compressor and fan clutch. No issues with compressor and just replaced fan clutch and radiator and I'm still having the same issue....I wonder if it's a short or computer problem since my sensor is fine.....idk but good luck because we will both need it! 😄
Guys i have n issue with my weather temperature when I stop the car for some time it’s going up then i move on it’s going dawn even the weather is cool it’s showing 55c
That test is no good. You have to know what resistance reading should be displayed for a certain temperature. Not just a change. Sometime those sensors are not accurate anymore and by alot.

Great video! U just saved me from an expensive a/c repair job

somewhere.
Excellent, clear explanation of testing ambient sensor. Top marks for you Sir.
Great job! Having multiple AC problems and this will no doubt solve one of them. You are helping strangers, a noble activity.
Happy to help!
@@CarsNToys what about the harness what's the voltage ?
Thanks for your teaching.
How do you check the opposite way? Checking the clip from the car side.
Thank you so much. Beautiful video
Can you have an intermittent issue if that sensor is bad? Fully charged system and works when it wants to but more at highway speeds.
Thanks
Great vids man 🎉
Thank you!
I had a quick question.. on F15 X5, can a faulty ambient temp sensor prevent AC compressor from coming on?
Yes
Thank you! you just saved me 100.00+ dollars mine went bad and I was just about to take to the a/c shop and they wanted over hundred dollars just to look at it,plus maybe unther hundred to fix it!

Awesome thankyou
Nice!!!! This video helps me a lot! tks
Will this cause low pressure ac line to freeze
Thank you Buddy
Another great tutorial, thanks boss!
my new sensor harness has a red and blue wire does it matter which way it is wired is the blue ground ??? thanks!
Very informative, great video!
The Ford trucks 2015 - present are in the Passenger Mirror.
What about willmanual ac control system ?
this is pretty nice sir
thank you for sharing
much appreciated

What was the problem?
Fantastic explanation, thank you
Got a 1990 corvette the temperature stays on 38 replaced sensor now stays on 50 could it be soothing else.
Thank you sir, very informative
Great video,..very helpful..thank you!!!
Thank you for this great and informative video
Mine is stuck at a temp no matter if it's unplugged or not. I disconnect my battery and still same thing even reset the speedometer by holding select/reset
Is that allowed you ac compressor cycling on and off
Maybe bc I don't have that sensor plug in and I'm having the same issue....but sometime could be a lil sensor on the compressor name flow sensor ..... Easy to replace too..
So what is the problem if the sensor checks out good?
After I replaced the sensor still no reading and ice possible message appears
Please kindly discuss the effect of permanent disconnection of the Ambient Temperature sensor.
Your fans will run on high continously with ext temp readings and parking brake tpms errors appear in speedometer

1.6 kohm on what room temperature?
As it is a heat sensor then that measurements are depending on the air temperature.
good question, no answer at all.
On manual said 25 celcius degre
Ok so I replaced my sensor but the readout on my dash is still way off. It is currently 56° f outside and the readout says 79° f
So if the ac compressor is broken it can cause the ambient sensor to read the wrong outside temp?
No. Compressor engagement is dependent on a signal from the Ambient temp but not visa versa.

JUST BECAUSE IT GOES UP OR DOWN DOSEN'T MEAN ITS ACCURATE OR WORKING CORRECTLY!
You can verify the readings with a code reader. Nonetheless, it's accurate.
i feel at ease after seekng this video
Perfecto

I m facing same problem have u sorted out yours?
Kindly share

I have the same problem on my Opel Mokka 1.4T. Sensor changed twice and the problem persists.

My sensor reads over 3000 is that ok?

@@rayv.3855 did you ever figure out what the issue was? I'm having the same issue on a 2012 Ford focus
2015 Chrysler 200
Your sensor was fine, so the problem is in the wiring harness. You should have shown how to test that
Bought 3 different ones ranging 7 to 30 dollars all didn't change anything and test nothing!? $30 one test Before putting on and still nothing!
Try with a different multimeter
That sensor looks bad because it should rapidly move down a few thousand olms within about 10 or 20 seconds
Guys i have n issue with my weather temperature when I stop the car for some time it’s going up then i move on it’s going dawn even the weather is cool it’s showing 55c
Panda but
The VW dealer wanted $1,700 to fix my 2004 Golf a/c. I want to go back and slap the taste out of someone mouth.
Its not 'kilogram ohms". That is a measure of weight. "K" is for 'THOUSAND" , AS IN 1000 OHMS.
I didn't say kilogram ohms. I said kiloohms. Thank you.
