Thank you for making this video! I just got my first 5-year this fall and my first fountain pen last week and realized that I got a bad batch of the paper. I wasn't sure what to do until I found this video so thank you for sharing and I'm happy that the new paper works for you!
Thanks for sharing! I reached out about my 2025 Weeks, with pictures of feathering and bleedthrough (using fountain pens with EF or UEF nibs), Hobonichi replied there is no issue with the paper
That's disappointing. There have been some reports about bleeding with Cousin as well, but so far Hobonichi has only acknowledged problems with the 5-year planner.
Hello. I noticed that on one page (13/1) in my techo A5 Hon I have bleed through but not on the other pages so far. …. I don’t feel like complaining but wondered if you might have had a similar experience
Interesting that you mention that. I thought my Weeks had great paper when I first tested it, but the second time (different pages) I got different results.
@ and that is true. The reason the “old paper” was so popular happened to be from a combination of idiosyncrasies that is very hard to replicate. So I can understand why Washi making is a dying craft. Such is life.
Did you fill out that inquiry form? I submitted mine around mid-October and got a response on December 14th. I then had to send back my defective 5-year planner.
@@fudefanI never received an inquiry from them? I emailed them, messaged them on IG and also left comments on their posts. Never heard anything back. When you send back your old 5-year planner, did you have to pay for shipping?
Just a bit addon, Hobonichi did not reach out to all of those who filled out the form. I had done it and I had also pretty bad bleed throug but they did not reach out.
I filled out the inquiry form around mid-October and got an email from Hobonichi about the exchange program on December 14th. I sent my defective planner back the next weekday and received the replacement another two days later.
@@Diana-DHY No shipping cost. I sent it with Yamato chaku-barai, i.e. receiver pays. No shipping cost for the replacement either. I'm not sure if the procedure is the same outside Japan, but the email should have instructions.
Yes. The Japanese instructions say you have to return it first, while the English instructions say you can return it later. Not sure if it's intentional...

Thank you for watching! Glad you found it useful.
I enjoy your podcast so much, so I'm really happy to see you making videos here now!
So glad to hear that, thank you!
Thanks for the video! Your photography is so admirable I am so glad you make videos now too
I appreciate the kind words, thank you!
So glad you got a new replacement that worked well for you! Looking forward to seeing what they do with their paper in the future.
Thanks! Yes, let's see. Hobonichi said dry times are longer with the new paper. I didn't notice that, but will do some more tests.

It's really nice that they fixed it.
Indeed! I wonder what'll happen to remaining stock of the "bad" batch.
Good to know - thank you for sharing!
You're welcome!

I really miss the old TR52
Yep, but even Tomoegawa had problems with paper quality before, about a decade ago. Paper making is hard (and not very lucrative anymore).

What the heck? I reached out to them and didn’t hear anything back!

you have to fill out the official form
@@AllTheArtsythank you for the info! I found the form online and filled it out, fingers crossed!
How do you get the official form? My cousin bleeds with most of my fountain pen inks. 😢

It could be that they're just slow. A friend of mine got a response from Hobonichi a week before I did.
Hi! Wondering how long did the replacement take to come in?
