What other planner would you recommend with thick paper that can be used with ink, markers, fineliners, highlighters, fountain pen, etc.? I need paper that does not bleed easily in order to help me visualize important stuff because of some issues with my eyes. Thanks in advance. (I love your RUclips channel)

@@verschwenderinI use the hobonichi cousin for dark colors and inks and markers all the time and it doesn’t bleed at all. Also, the drying time really depends on what ink you’re using. My fountain pen ink dries very fast even on this paper.

Instead I have the older Day Free (the Fox version! which I regret not getting in A5 because I love the dancing fox so much now) for journalling. The paper is great but I find i prefer to have a lot more structure than the Hobonichi offers at first, and I'm not the kind to make my own. Before you buy - cut a piece of paper to the sizes of planner pages you’re considering FIRST - that way you can play with your handwriting size/style and play with layouts you like for daily planning. I got my first Hobonichi many years ago, back when you had to order them from Japan. My first Hobo was an A6 original, and it’s still the one that works the best for me. When I was working I also used an A5 that I kept on my desk in the office. I love its vertical weekly pages. Now that I’ve retired I only use the A6 original. My dream planner would be an A6 Day Free if it included weekly pages. I don’t need 365 daily pages, but I miss the weeklies in my A5. I tried the Weeks but I hated the long narrow form factor and the cream colored paper. I’m happy with my A6 original and will be ordering mine tomorrow! 😊

This video is a honest assessment of the line; I appreciate Connie's comments at the end (why look, they already have THEIR 2025 😉😍. I love the Weeks. I am planning on moving up to the Mega, which may have too many memo pages, but as it's progressing this year, I am going to run out of pages in the regular one. I do love that I can write one line or a paragraph, or note the memo page and spill over into that section, depending on how they day went. As for the dry time, I bought blotter paper and cut it to size, and it works really nicely as a bookmark. I used the gantt chart to identify when I get paid and when holidays happen, I have filled the calendar grid with weather reports/projects that run over a week/doodles. My 100 are books and movies and concerts, and so forth. The techo A5 was too much space per day - teenage me would have loved it, 65 year old me doesn't write every day in great detail (but when I do, I DO). I do use the A5 cover with a blank notebook for sketching, so it wasn't a waste. Saturday can't come fast enough!

JetPens started my addiction to Hobonichi Techos. I started with the A6 for a year, went back to my Filofax, and then went back to the A6. The only thing I didn't like about the A6 is that there are no weekly spreads. On September 1, I'm going to buy my third Cousin. It has the three formats I want - monthly for reminders at a glance, weekly for planning, and daily for journaling. I took to the thin paper from the get-go because it's fountain pen friendly. Because of its size, I usuallyy don't use the cute cover I bought for it. I just put it in my Delfonics pouch and take that with me. Closer to the end of this year, I'm also going to buy a five-year diary so that I can jot down events and know the turnout of things (e.g., the wars in Ukraine and in the Mideast).

Thanks for the video and information. I’m into my 7th year and I’m happy with my A6 Techo. With daily entries, it’s a great use of different inks and fountain pens. The Tomoe River paper is amazing for all the qualities described. For the odd days that are “busy”, I have a small add-on page that sticks on like a Post-it (but from the side) which is handy. Remember, A5 looks great but it’s very satisfying to have a completely fill Techo at A6 that one with gaps. I can see why there are so many fans…

I know I "see" my time in weeks because I've tried using monthly planners with blank inner pages before, which didn't quite serve my specific needs.
I started using Hobonichi Techo Weeks and Kokuyo Jibun Techo Lite this year, and they had been instrumental in keeping track of daily/weekly tasks. I don't necessarily journal, but if I had anything extra thoughts to write down, there are free grid pages in the back of either planner I can use.
In terms of thin paper showthrough, I'd say the types of paper in these planners were *nowhere near* as bad as budget-brand paper I formerly hoarded in my youth. The smudging was an issue at the start (seeing as my lightweight Hobonichi Techo Weeks is something I carry in my handbag and therefore needs to close quickly at times), but I eventually layered spare paper to keep the other side of the spread unsmudged.

I got the limited edition Animal Crossing set when it came out, and I really liked it... but I just do NOT get along with pre-dated daily planners. So now I just put some undated refills from Amazon in there. It's a bit awkward, but it's worth it to keep using that case! 😅

For 2025 purchased a Cousin refill (prior purchase included a really nice leather). Since this version is rather heavy, it sits in the kitchen and tracks my life. Also purchased an A6 HON (to carry with me when out and about). I did try the Hobonichi WEEKS… For me, it’s just too small and inefficient. Really liking that the A6 is half the size of the Cousin! Curious if these can be ordered without the pesky quotes…they take up so much writing space.

ive been using the hobonichi cousin for 3 years now, but i started to use the weekly layout waaaay less, so i've been playing with the idea of getting to try out a kokuyo jibun techo instead (the daily one), but i saw that the european store i always use doesnt sell them until like 2 months from now, when the hobonichi drops in 2 days qq

I really want to try the hobonichi. I'd like if there was a weekly one in A5 size. That's a shame that there isn't. I really prefer the A5 size. But if they are too big I believe I'd buy the one that comes in two halves. I'm sure I'm not going to use the A6 very well.... I'm still going to decide...

I grabbed a Weeks a month or so ago, I know late for this year. It's a nice size but I think I rather have a vertical weeks format. At first I thought Days would be best but I don't take that many notes in planner. I use for personal and work but my days are vastly taken up by only a few things per day and week. I am hoping to go with a Kokuyo Jibun Techo for that vertical format and some the other small details. I might come back to a Hobonichi or just find a different system as I am mostly digital for work anyhow.

OK cool I use the plain notebook as well as I found that I never used it daily like I should. Because the covers are so cute I now have 3-4 covers ugh...but keep 2 Techos going. One is for Ideas only! This way I can keep ideas for things I am creating in my art to one book, And the other I use for planning. I found having the blank book I could spread to more than one page or just use one page as needed. So this was great advice for people as I figured that one o after my second year of H.Techo use. However I did not know about the blue books that you mentioned that had planning stuff in it but not dates! I think I would like that even better still so thanks for that advice. ALSO the Jacques Herbin blotter paper is super expensive, does someone out there have less expensive and more sheets in them? Thanks this was great!

I keep thinking about getting a Cousin, but I'm so conflicted because of the show-through/ghosting. I love the Kokuyo paper in my Jibun Techos, and I keep trying them but end up hardly using them. I tried the Jibun Days, but I don't like the layout- I hate the timeline bar down the middle of the page. I prefer Hobonichi's much more subtle divider. And the Jibun Days doesn't have a weekly layout. Ugh. I wish I could just have a Hobonichi with Kokuyo paper. :( I feel like the best option is to just DIY a planner, but that's SO much work and set-up that my adhd brain doesn't want to do. :(
