  • It has been a month since the initial break-in flight of the new engine. That flight was successful, but not without issue. In this video I go into some details about what has been going on with the plane, and some scenic views Flying around the San Luis Reservoir, Coyote Lake, and surrounding areas as I fly from Tracy Airport to San Jose Reid-Hillview Airport

    Buddy, you pulled off the near-impossible with your 180 back to the airport. I was freaking out watching you. I'd be shaken after that, but that was some spectacular flying. Be careful out there.

    I'm glad to see you're flying again. I can understand your trepidation, but you have a new engine up there, I think you've already proved it. Now you just need to get used to it, and I'm sure that it's going to be okay. Thanks for taking us along with you, I look forward to more videos as you get back in the groove and feel comfortable in the airplane.

    Always loved the cycling of the landing gear on these aircraft------------reminds me of a crippled seagull with dangling legs.
    And who can forget the GUMP check? Memories.

    @Edward what a story! you needed at least a dozen of clean undys after that first engine dying on you. Smooth thermals from this ole model airplane flyer and builder... And remember : Always use compression powder on a new engine 😈😜 ( ole prank we always pulled on the new guy )

    If you are already up to a C210 , and you are not happy with piston reliability, I wondered how much is the jump to PT-6, like that bird that taxied ahead of you at 1:55. That look like a home build. But turbine are a lot more reliable than any piston and have lots of bleed air for cabin and de icing.

      I use Adobe Creative Suite, Premiere Pro and After Effects. I manually created the annotations in AE following other youtube tutorials

    You are a great pilot, but it must be very nerve-racking flying a new engine. Looks like you got all your flying ducks in a row. Good luck to you. I enjoy all your RUclips flicks from my lazy boy. Retired 72 yrs old.

    Great Documentation. I had an experience where an FBO screwed the installation of my new PennYan Aero Engine, on my Piper Archer II. They delegated the job to two unqualified new hires behind my back and without my knowledge. The propeller, a STC-ed McCauley 2-bladed fixed pitch propeller was neither checked, nor, properly submitted for a factory prescribed major overhaul and was mounted "we put it back on as we removed it". However, another prop strike occurred while in the FBO's custody. Mechanics lied about encountering excessive vibration, falsified logbooks and lied about the plane's airworthiness. Plane had to abort its first flight and never was airworthy while in their custody. received 17 revised/altered invoices and the bill was three times higher than agreed in writing. Absurd billing charges included, without previous notice/agreement , "talking; making entries in logbooks for $ 112.00; looking up supplies; running up engine for an entire hour, "removal/install prop " for $ 522.00; "engine preparation charges etc...totaling about $ 14,000- and the owner of the FBO and their non-IA -mechanic sent 2 separate letters on 2 different dates, declaring their work "unairworthy". Got stuck with this mess and still in Court after 2 1/2 years. Recently , the FBO publicized fake flight tracks and harasses me thru basically all Internet media and Social Media to discredit my evidence and reputation....Pilots: AVOID THIS FBO!!!!!

    Great video and crystal clear! Just a question from a novice . Why does the instrument cluster constantly blink? Isn't that distracting? Can't wait for your next video Ed.

      This is an artifact caused by an interference pattern between the rolling shutter of the camera and the "pulse-width-modulation" that is used to control the brightness of the instrument panel.
      In order to adjust the brightness of the monitor, the LED lights inside are only turned on for a fraction of a second, the longer they are on, the brighter the screen, as the screen dims the are off more than on. Couple this with how "long" the exposure is on the camera's virtual rolling shutter, sometimes the camera captures the LEDs off and sometimes on. You don't notice this from the seat, you just see the screen getting brighter or dimmer.

      The blinking is an effect caused by the video camera. The instruments don't look like that in real life. 👍

Ya, I know you have no interest, or motive to be some kind of hero, but when a good ole American regular guy sets out to accomplish above average goals....and demonstrates all the persistence in the face of several failures as you have..and takes us with you on your journey, being a part of your victories and adventures is so awesome!     great video, it will take some time to get feeling comfortable again. Now as you are listening to every beat of the engine you probably hear noises that are not even there as the mind can sure play tricks on you after what you have been through. I had a 1973 cessna 337G skymaster years ago and the check valves in the hydraulic system were not holding due to dirt (or rust or something) in the hyd system so the gear would start to drop and the pump would kick on/off trying to mtn hyd pressure until eventually the pump burnt out. I would pull the gear breaker but then the gear doors would drop and I would have to slow way down not to over stress the doors. I think they said that they took a hyd pump out of a 210 and put it in the skymaster (or from a cardinal 177) maybe they all have the same pump. Anyway....its good to see you in the air again.

    Just curious, on your takeoff I noticed you only had about 33"MP. As a T210 should you be able to get 35-36"MP on departure to take advantage of the 310HP for up to 5 mins? Or you can get the higher MP but you choose to keep it at 33"?

      Also noticed on your takeoff roll your nose wheel looked dry and clean, when you lowered your gear for landing, it looked to have some oil on it. May just be the lighting and camera angle but I would check on that.

    Could you leave the gear down to slow you down and be able to still keep your power up?

      The problem with keeping the gear down to go slow with the power in a really high setting is cooling. The engine needs airflow to keep cool, and at high power settings it's making a lot of heat. So the knobs for the balancing act are, "too hard on the airframe", "too hot for the engine", "not enough 'high power'"

    That is such a good-looking airplane (I wanted to say "pretty" because it is, but I thought that sounded too girly!). Glad to hear it's still going well since the engine failure. Hope the wrinkles get ironed out soon.
