In 2005, Drunken Master II was named one of the top 100 best films of all time by Time magazine. In 2015, the British Film Institute (BFI) selected Drunken Master II as one of the 10 best action movies of all time. However once American distributor, Dimension Films acquired the film an English-language dub (Chan dubbed himself), and a new musical score was added. The re-dubbed soundtrack also meant that sound effects were different, in some instances completely altering the rhythm of the fight scenes.
For years no home media release has been made available that preserved the original aspect ratio (2.35:1) and the uncut version of the film with the original Cantonese audio track. An uncut release with good picture quality, the original audio track, and the original aspect ratio is considered a "holy grail" by many Hong Kong cinema fans.
It wasn't until 11 October 2018, The original, uncut Hong Kong version was finally made available on Blu-ray in China, Korea and Japan, courtesy of Warner Bros.

I saw Jackie Chans Drunken Master II on the big screen in Berkeley, Ca at the UC theater on university ave back in the early 90's. Back then nobody knew who Jackie Chan was. I did. I watched his mid 80's kung fu flicks. Soo good!!
Except it was called Legend of Drunken Master, and everyone knew who he was by that time. So try again.

He was in his prime here. I believe Kishimoto referenced this fight with Rock Lee and Kimimaro. Also, one of Narutos best fights. He was absolutely outstanding throughout this while film.
Yep, this film was the end of Jackie's prime. He never matched this level of performance again, though he did make some more good stuff after this.
The fact that these techniques are actually accurate to the 8 original styles known is amazing, from Lu Dongbin to Miss He Xiangu mentioning Zhang Guolao at 3:15 for example, "the donkey rider" with the double-foot-kicks! Unlike other martial art actors, these are correct and difficult to learn.

Everyone glazes over Bruce Lee and they've never watched Jackie's films before. His best series are easily Police Story, Drunken Master, Project A.
DM2 has some of the best if not THE best action movie sequences ever in cinematography....Th rescission and detail are unmatched even with CGI today....

I really love Donnie’s explosiveness but I think Jackie is the best.

This used to be me except I wasn't a master, was fighting no one, was just drinking.
jackie's mom in this was Anita Mui. She was a really huge star in hong kong as a recording artist, not just as an actress, she died really young at 40 years old in 2003

Very much appreciated! So, except for Gualao, he performs the moves first and then names which immortal that was. I always thought that 4:30 was Zhongli since it had nothing to do w/ throat or joint locks, and it looked like his arms are in the shape of a keg. I also assumed that 3:28 was Tieguai, especially since I saw no attack to the waist. Unless if you count 3:35, which seems to step into the Xiangzi part of the choreography.
@@jp3813 You observe very carefully. Lan Caihe is a little child. He was carrying a basket of flowers, and he could only reach the adult's waist. He's a juggler. At the factory showdown, Jackie combined the boy and the cripple. It looks like the same person. Cao Guojiu attacks from the neck up. It's not just a choke hold. Because he's taller. He is an aristocratic man with a melancholy temperament.

Such a shame we’ll never get drunken master 3 by Jackie. By this time, I would like to see Jackie as an old fei hung teaching his son or students Drunken Fist and have them be the main characters of the movie. Would be hard to cast actors who knows martial arts.
Also at the end of this movie he was blind and his brain rotted completely away. He ain’t doing any more adventures or teaching anyone anything

I still have the Cantonese w/ English subtitle VHS of Drunken Master 2. It’s one of my most cherished items. Legend of the Drunken Master was a trash English dubbed film that I despise.
I've always preferred watching foreign movies that have English subtitles in them than being dubbed in English, it's always best to hear the original language because for me it make the movie more "real" if you can see where I'm coming from, English dubbing puts me off watching it

Yes she was a queen. She was fantastic in everything....She puts her heart into everything she did. No bad performances from her, only bad scripts and songs.
There is a great difference between the first movie and the sequel, the sequel was made by the new style created by Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung in Project A, with a more fast style of fighting, and the fights appear less than a dance.

Love this movie, but I always giggle at the fact that he's the son, but he was 40 when this came out and the mother, Anita Mui, was only 31. The father was only 48.
I think Jackie knew he was to old play Wong Fei Hung in this movie but I think he did it anyway due to the fact that his fans were waiting for years for an continuation to the Drunken Master storyline that he started back in 1978. And knowing his sense of humor would do this, him bring in both Anita Mui and Lung Ti to play both the mother and the father was him most likely him being cheeky to the moviegoers.
