  • @markshaw510

    This is Jackie's first movie where he uses stunt doubles for himself extensively. He suffered a long-term injury during Rumble in the Bronx, so he made a racecar movie. But the studio still wanted him to do Kung Fu fights/stunts because that's what audiences wanted to see and the car wrecks were expensive. In his previous movies, he used doubles sparingly for complex acrobatics, skillfull driving stunts, skateboarding, long jumps, and the occasional stunts he couldn't do himself. After this movie, Jackie still tried to use stunt doubles sparingly, but his age eventually caught up with him.

      Sammo Hung was the action director and fight choreographer in Thunderbolt. Sammo was experimenting with the action direction here. I love this fight scene, its kind of refreshing to see Jackie like this, its more hard hitting that Sammo is known for and very little or none of the comedy we are used to when Jackie directs and choreograph. The fight scenes at the casino with the pachinko machines are cool as well.

    • @markshaw510
      @markshaw510 2 года назад +15

      As you may already know, Jackie was still healing up from an injury suffered during his previous movie, Rumble in the Bronx. That's why a lot of the Kung Fu action scenes/stunts are done by stunt doubles. The close-ups, camera movement, and quick editing are meant to cover up the stuntmen doubling for Jackie. Although he used stunt doubles sparingly in previous films for acrobatics, skateboarding, long jumps, complex stunt driving, and dangerous stunts, I believe this is his first movie where he relies extensively on his JC stunt team to do the stunts for him.

      @@Maximus1Decimus he was injured from Rumble in the Bronx so he proposed a car racing movie where he didn't have to do that much fighting but the studio/ international distributors still pressured them to add back some fight scenes. at one point Jackie, Corey Yuen, Sammo, and one of his team mates (Yuen Bun? I forget) were all filming simultaneous action scenes to make the Chinese New Year release date. Jackie does most of his big stunts but for various kicks and falls he's always had doubles. Director Stanley Tang did some of the jumps in Rumble in the Bronx. remy julienne in a wig did some motorcycle stuff in operation condor. Sam Wong doubled a lot of Jackie's kicks. Chin Kar Lok did his big tornado kick from dragons forever. you watch behind the scene you can also see Mars in Jackie's clothes too. later he had Andy Cheng double him for falls and some kicks. but that doesn't take away Jackie's brilliance. it's just impossible to do every single move or every single stunt in a big action movie.
