Two New Whiskey Cocktails (one smooth, one STRONG)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 31 июл 2024
- In today’s video, I’m going to show you two new whiskey cocktails to try! The first is the Sentimental Gentleman, a smooth sipper that was created by Boston bartender, Misty Kalkofen. If you like a cocktail like the Rusty Nail or the Godfather, you’re going to love the Sentimental Gentleman. The second drink is a variation on this that we came up with at the bar where I used to work. We called it the Staggering Gentleman because it is staggeringly strong and uses an uncut and unfiltered bourbon called Stagg Jr.
I’m happy to say Unicorn Auctions sponsored this video and gifted me the bourbon I needed to recreate this cocktail. Stagg Jr. has become a difficult bottle to acquire - and when you find it, it can be rather expensive. I’m grateful to my friends at Unicorn Auctions who could help me make this drink possible.
Unicorn Auctions holds monthly online auctions for rare bottles of whiskey (among other spirits). It’s easy to get involved if you’re interested in buying or selling special bottles.

Congrats brother, big inspiration behind the bar. Keep on keeping on
You should create a 100k Celebratory cocktail.
✨🤍✨
Perseverance is key.
Cheers and Congrats.
Hell yeah! Congrats, Anders.
Congrats Anders and Az!
Congratulations 👏 well deserved!
For those who, like me, haven't seen Stagg Jr in the wild in years, some potential barrel/high proof substitutes that are easier to find are Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof, Knob Creek Single Barrel, and Old Forester 1920. All four of those are, at least where I'm at, reasonably easy to find. None will break the bank, either.
A couple other options that are more difficult to locate but still more obtainable than Stagg Jr (aka I'll walk into a store and see bottles a few times a year at least) are Four Roses Single Barrel Barrel Strength, 1792 Full Proof, Booker's, and Elijah Craig Barrel Proof.
This would be great with Russel's Reserve SiB as well which is pretty easy to find for ~$65. Stagg Jr, is now north of $250. I've managed to trade for a couple bottles and will only drink it neat. I'll use top shelf booze for cocktails all the time, but my unicorns are neat only.
1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣K and still counting. We are witnessing RUclips cocktail history here folks! 🥂🍾
Haha thanks, Vino! I heard it here 😂
Agreed!!
Thank you for sharing this recipe and for all the other wonderful cocktail content! This is one of my new favorites. I’m a huge fan “classic cocktails”!
Sooooo glad you showed this one! It's been my favorite ever since you made it back at the bar! Keep up the great work
So happy to see you reached 100k! Keep on the good work, your channel really got me into cocktails.
Congrats on the 100k, I'm 19 and I don't even drink but I love your charisma, I already saw all of your videos (a lot of them twice) and they are so entertaining but really educational. Salute from Portugal!
Let’s gooooooo! 100K!!!!!!
Cheers, Erik! 🥃
This drink is an absolute Gem, I have like old fashioned’s for a very long time but this drink is definitely my new favorite. Thank you so much for sharing.
Congrats on the first of many milestones, Anders! Happy to be part of the first 100k. Your content is underrated - informative without being condesending, talented without taking yourself too seriously. You're entertaining, engaging, and I think you haven't hit your stride yet. I consistently enjoy and learn from your videos. We're with you on the way to 200k and beyond!
Thank you so much, Louie! Appreciate the kind words, and I'm happy you're here. Cheers to you! 🥃
Congrats on 100k! Since finding your channel, Ive gone from hardly knowing anything about drinks to regularly crafting new favorites. Its a blast. Big thanks to you and Az for all your work. Cheers!
Thanks, Jared! Happy to hear you're crafting new favorites! Cheers!
Congrats on the 100k mark, Anders! Cheers to the next 100k. Look forward to making and trying both of these. Fully agree - as with all whiskey/spirits, cocktails, or anything for that matter, the best way to enjoy them is how you like to enjoy them. Quite clever of a name for the Staggering Gentlemen indeed. Love it. Cheers!
Thank you so much! Hope you enjoy both of these cocktails - cheers! 🥃
Love you videos so much! The attitude and lack of pretension and friendly demeanor gives you an edge on all the different mixology channels. Also love the history lessons
CONGRATS FROM CANADA!! Thanks to you, I’m a Web Developer turned amateur bar tender from your videos!
Now I can drink and not feel like I’m wasting time since I can say I’m “experimenting”
That's what I do too 😂 Thanks, Christian!
Same! I'm actually trying to land a barback position because I've been so inspired by these videos!
I am also a web dev and bartender!
Love your channel! I've been really enjoying learning about cocktail crafting throughout the pandemic and came across your channel which has not only been entertaining but really helpful for inspiration.
Thanks, Will! Happy you're enjoying the videos!
Congrats on 100k Anders! Your channel has definitely inspired me to upgrade my own mixing game.
100k.. so deserved! The best bartending videos on RUclips in my opinion! Greetings from Germany!
Thank you, Simon! Cheers to you! 🇩🇪
Hey Anders, I did a slight spin on the Sentimental Gentleman. The walnut liquor I found in my area was Noccello which is artificially flavored and overly sweet. I initially made it your way with the exception of the walnut liqueur and it was good but a little too sweet. I substituted the Scotch with Buffalo Trace, cut the walnut liqueur in half and added 2 dashes of angostura bitters. I think it is a winner. I called it the Country Gentleman. Thank you for the great educational channel.
This is late, but the same maker (Toschi) has a different Walnut Liqueur: Nocino, which is 40% alcohol and really close no Nux Alpina! If you found Nocello, you should find Nocino too.
Anders, congratulations on 100K subscribers. I made both of these cocktails and they were both great. Very different, but great. Thanks for the great videos.
Congrats on 100K! Love that the sponsored portion was short and sweet and also funny. Out of the two drinks, I'd probably go with the Sentimental Gentleman. Also, TIL that walnut liqueur is a thing. Sounds tasty!
Thanks, Michael! Hope you can get some walnut liqueur - it's incredible. Cheers!
Absolutely love this channel, has quickly become my favourite of its kind. Would love to see some more cocktails made with my fave and somewhat under-appreciated spirit, in Australia at least, Tequila!
Congrats on 100K, my friend. So happy for you both. Loving these two cocktails, and I am a big fan of Benedictine, so I am having this soon.
Thanks, Georgi! Hope you're doing well. Thought of you when I made this one - I know you're a fan of the Rusty Nail. Cheers! 🥃
Thank you for these lovely cocktails 🍹. Congratulations 🎊🍾 on 100K.
100k subscribers!! Great job building your business. I've been a fan since about 18k and can say your consistency and quality is of the multi millions variety. Keep up the good work!
Appreciate that, John! So happy you're enjoying the videos. Cheers to you!
Congratulations on 100k! What a beautiful and well-earned journey. I've enjoyed watching your hair and followers grow. 🦄 Auctions sounds awesome!
Yeah they're pretty cool 😉 Thanks, Lea!
I did a tasting at Angel's Envy a few years back and the guy running it said probably the best thing I've ever heard about "THE ONLY WAY YOU SHOULD EVER DRINK HIGH END WHISKEY", which was... "Do whatever the hell you want, it's YOUR whiskey." Exactly.
Congrats Anders happy to be one of you 100 k, just back from 2 week vacation in Scotland with a few bottles of the good stuff in tow so roll on with those whisky cocktails....
Sounds good, Gordon! Perfect for the cooler months ahead! 🥃
Congratulations on 100k. You deserve it. 🍾🥳
And as always, thank you for the recipes.
Thanks for that, Tomaž! Cheers to you!
Great video! Thanks for introducing me to another whisky cocktail I have to try. Great channel.
Congrats on 100k subs Anders. I've discovered your channel a couple months back and get compliments on my bar swagger all the time now. I recommend them to your channel to help support. Great stuff!
Cheers, Jonathan! Love to hear you're getting some nice compliments - happy mixing!
That’s a really good cocktail. I tried it with the money shoulder and I love it. It’s so smooth and tasty it’s great. Thanks for the recipe
ANDERS... is the whole reason I got into making coctails. I went from 10 bottles to 50 following this guy. Even bought one of the books he recommended. This coctail, the Sentimental Gentlemen, is easily my favorite. I've made this with 8 different whiskeys and they are all good in their own way. Keep it up Anders. Your a glorious individual!
The Godfather is my goto sipping cocktail, so this looks amazing! I'll also try a riff using Amaretto instead of the walnut liqueur just for kicks.
Thanks for the amazing content! You're an amazing teacher and you make everything look so easy (that even I was able to pick up the skills).
First, congratulations on the accomplishment! Second, I'm going to try this and the Irish version you mention; they sound delicious. I already have one in the Rolodex called the Italian Gentleman, made with Bourbon, Campari, lemon juice, demerara syrup, and orange bitters. Now, I'll have a small Gentlemen's Club, I guess.
I don't know how you do it, but every cocktail you make in your videos, i want to immediately make myself and try it! It looks so cool, delicious and impressive! And yes, congratulations on 100k) from Russia with love and good luck!
Thank you so much! Cheers to you! 🇷🇺
Congratulations to you and Az on reaching 100K, Anders. Well-deserved! I completely agree with your philosophy about using higher-end bourbons in cocktails. I collect bourbons to enjoy them, and a well-crafted cocktail is just as valid a way of doing that as is sipping one neat. I've found that some cask-finished bourbons -- which tend to be fairly pricey -- add surprising complexity and variety to cocktails that you wouldn't get with a lower-shelf brand. I'm looking forward to experimenting with different bourbons in the Staggering Gentleman. Thanks for the recipe.
Thanks, John! Hope you find the perfect bottle for your Staggering Gentleman. Cheers! 🥃
Congratulations Andres.
I discovered you whilst in lockdown, you’ve cost me a small fortune 😎
I’ve been a connoisseur of single malt Whiskies for nearly 40 yrs.
Now I’m even buying Rye & Bourbon 😀👍
Cheers 🍹
Thanks, Ray! Cheers to you! 🥃
Anders, Sorry about how your name appears, bloody predictive text 🤣
That's sick! Awesome drink! =) Thank you for the upload. Cheers!!!
I’m so happy for the success of you and your partner. Absolutely deserved. Congratulations to you both
Cheers, Jacob! Thanks 🥃
Thank you for these. Both are are very nice (even with Larceny).
Woohoo!!!!! Congrats on this milestone Anders!
And I may or may not have had cocktails made with Yamazaki 12 year even though it is no longer readily available. Cheers!
Anders for the win!! This is added to my Burn’s Night as a Rusty Nail alternative. So good. Thanks
Yeaaah, Boyeee! Congrats t you & Az & I do love that Unicorn Auctions crew, as well! 😎🥃
Good peeps all around 🥳 Cheers to you, Steve! Enjoy the weekend!
Congrats on 100k I knew you’d hit it soon! Cheers to 100k more!
Congrats to 100k! Would be awesome if you could make a video about a few cocktails which just consist of spirits from your esstential video. Thanks for the great content!
Wow - I just made this with Glenfiddich 12 and it is an exceptional drink. Love the walnut notes!
Congrats on the 100K. Nice silver plaque. So, I tried the Sentimental with a Nocino, a walnut liquer finished in bourbon barrel. It was quite dark, and the cocktail was still very good. When I get around to opening my Stagg Jr, I will make the other
Those are two delicious looking cocktails! It’s motivated me to get off the couch and filter some water for a fresh batch of clear ice for tomorrow night.
The sentimental Gentleman Sounds so good - have to get walnut Liquor asap to try this one Out! Also, so glad to See more and more sponsored Videos! You deserve it! Congrats to 100k!!!
Thanks, Stefan! Hope you can get that walnut liqueur - I think you'll love this one. Cheers!
100K! Lets go! Well deserved Anders and Az!
LOVE this drink! It’s become our favorite since watching this video last fall. I crave the aroma of the Nux Alpina…. 😆🥃
Hey Anders, I tried the Staggering Gentleman but I used Woodford Reserve bourbon, then with their rye, then with their malt whiskey and then with their wheat whiskey. All of them were absolutely fantastic. I also used Jack Daniels barrel strength at 130 proof and it too is very good.
Thanks for the recipe!
100+K! Congrats from the Pacific Northwest!! Quality Content and Channel. 👊🍻
Cheers, Dan! 🥃
Congrats
Good to see a cocktail with nocino . Had it in Switzerland as a digestive. Also good over ice cream. It’s a grappa based infusion.
100k! Amazing! When i found out about this you we're at maybe 40k. Amazing to see your channel grow. Cheers from Portugal.
Thanks, Pedro! Cheers to you! 🇵🇹
Congrats on reaching 100k my friend! Another strong video. I don't care what the market is, Stagg Jr is -- and will always be -- a $50 bourbon. I remember you guys used to make me Old Fashioneds with it. I was trying to rid every back bar in Chicagoland of it but they started making it faster than I could drink it!
I remember making you those Old Fashioneds! In fact, you may have been the catalyst for us to start mixing with Stagg Jr. Cheers to you, Ronnie!
Congratulations on the 100k! Definitely well deserved, keep up the great video’s. I’m pretty sure I’ve spent more on booze this month than food because of these videos 😳 definitely worth it ! 🥴😂
Great video as always Anders, makes Fridays even more worth waiting for! Iechyd da!
Thank you, Joseph! Enjoy your weekend! 🥃
Congrats for 100k🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Sending love from Montreal!
Thanks, Gabriel! Cheers!
Congrats on 100K, Anders! Well deserved.
My "to buy" list is long enough that I don't expect to get to walnut liqueur for a while. But I'm definitely earmarking this for future. In the meantime, I can speculate that a "Japanese Gentleman" would be a great bet. My go-to old-fashioned spec lately has been 2 oz Nikka Coffey Grain, 1 tsp demerara syrup, 3 dsh walnut bitters, 1 dsh angostura. It's a treat. I have to assume the walnut liqueur will complement the Japanese whisky as well as the walnut bitters do.
And for anyone looking for a cheap but serviceable barrel strength bourbon, Costco has a partnership with Barton (distributors of 1792 bourbon). You may be able to find a 1L bottle of their cask strength expression at your local Costco, for around US$27. Really good value. It's a shame the Stagg isn't around anymore -- just 2-3 years ago it seemed you could get it for around $40.
Thanks for the tip on a good barrel strength! And your old fashioned specs sound great - thanks for sharing! 🥃
Congrats on 100k mate from Australia, look forward to all the cocktails to come :)
Appreciate that! Cheers! 🇦🇺
Congrats on 100k! Very excited for you sir! 🍻
Cheers, Gregory!
I watched this after watching your Rusty Nail video. I can't quit thinking about that old man. GOOD NAIL. GOOD GENTLEMEN.
Dude 100k. Congrats my man!
I love the classic Rusty Nail, but never had this one before. I’ve never even had it ordered here in the UK, but it looks amazing. The one closest to this is probably the Irish Cocktail (aka Irish Old Fashioned from the Dead Rabbit), it has Irish whiskey and Benedictine with bitters. Have a nice weekend Anders 😉
That Irish Cocktail sounds pretty incredible too! Have a great weekend, David - cheers to you! 🥃
100k!!!! Congrats buddy 👏🏾
CONGRATS ON 100k!
Well-deserved - calls for a cocktails or six!
Late to the party on this but just made both. Love both.
Recommend WT Rare Breed as the barrel strength. Fantastic & more affordable. Just used it in this & was spot on.
God these drinks look sooo good. And holy shit man, congrats on 100k!
Thanks, Dominic! Can confirm they were tasty 😂 These will be great as we head into the fall. Have a great weekend!
Well deserved 100k. Same as many, I'm sure, my once fervent enthusiasm for home bartending was reignited during the height of the pandemic. I stumbled across your channel by way of the "10 Bar Tool Essentials" episode and was immediately taken in by your approachability and straight forward, easy demeanor. You engage with your community. Az takes the presentation next level. There are many fantastic beverage content creators on this site, but you've earned your slice of the real estate with a quality and character that is wholly and uniquely your own. [With Elijah Craig Barrel Proof] L'Chaim!
Thank you so much, Josh! Appreciate the kind words. Happy you're here and enjoying the videos - it means a lot to Az and me. Cheers! 🥃
Looks soooo good!
I'm a viewer from Korea
Congrats on 100K!
I love your videos
Thank you so much! Happy you're enjoying the videos. Cheers! 🇰🇷
Great cocktails Anders 👍
This channel is simply awesome.
Omg 100k!!!! I'm here for this!!! To the bar!!! 🥃
So happy you're here! Cheers!! 🎉
I finally got around to trying the Sentimental Gentleman. It took a while to source the walnut liqueur and I have been sitting on it a while (as I have a long list of cocktails to try). I have to say it is definitely going on my favorites list. The combination of the candied walnut with the slightly bitter and herbal qualities of the benedictine go so well together. Very happy with this one :)
Congrats from Greece on your 100k subscribers, keep up the good work
Thank you, Christos! Cheers to you! 🇬🇷
Hey Anders Erickson thanks for all the sips tips and recipes.
Hey Anders, I am from Trinidad and Tobago. I created a cocoa cocktail and named it the Trinitario Sour. But it needs some more balancing. Can I send you the recipe?
CONGRATS TO 100K my friend!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Rob!! Really appreciate it - cheers to you! 🥃
I love it! Top notch...!
Absolutely love the Staggering Gentleman! This is my go-to cocktail if I want to give my bourbon enthusiasts friends a punch in the face. And of course give them something delicious
I mean I'm not that excited about this 100k milestone.. you deserve so many more subscribers
Haha I'm glad you're here, Federico - cheers!
Agreed
Congratulations on 100 K!
well deserved 100k!!! Congrats
Anders, great video again and congrats on another sponsor. Also, YOU DID IT!!! 100k Cheers.
Thanks, Jack! Cheers!
Heartfelt congrats on a well deserved 100K subs!!!
Thank you so much - cheers! 🥃
I'm totally gonna try this with my local Canadian Cask Strength Corn Whisky! (63 ABV)... just need a walnut liqueur.. might have to make my own! I shall return! :P
Ooh.. homemade walnut liqueur 👌 Great call.
Yes! I was thinking in the same direction. Sadly the green walnut season is over - at least in Austria.
Woo hoo!!!!!! Next stop 200k!! You got this!!!
Just got home with a new bottle of Monkey Shoulder. Been using for Rusty Nails and Penicillins, and now for this. Two of my favorites along with Last Word. I've watched most of your videos multiple times. Thank you for the content. 100K !!
Sounds like you've got great taste in whisky and cocktails! Happy mixing!
There’s nothing wrong with mixing with expensive booze. I’ve definitely sold my share of $60 cocktails in my day. These both sound amazing and congrats on 100k. So well deserved! You guys are killing it!
Thank you so much! Cheers! 🥃
Grats on the 100K! Onward!
I need some walnut liquer so I can try this template out.
That's great! You're using one of my favourite lokal walnut liqueurs. The place that produces it is less than 100 miles from where I live.
I'll have to try this cocktail. Thank you for the great video Anders!
That's incredible! I had to hunt a little for my bottle. Love that it's local for you - it's so good! Cheers, Joonha!
ANDERS!!!!!! Congrat on 100k subs!!! Both of these are my kind of drinks!!!! I bet these taste really great!!!! I thought I was going to see some extreme POV bartendering for a second!!!! CHEERS!!!!
TIM!! Haha I'm still working on mastering the POV bartending - I could use some tips! Enjoy the weekend my friend!! Cheers!
CONGRATS ON 100K BROTHA!!!! Been wiping out the shelves at my local Bevmo because of you! xD
Haha thanks, Christopher! Cheers! 🥃
"This is really sentimental....I am just thinking of grand old things"....LOL
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL 😀
Perfect video...again! Love the great content, funfacts, background music, etc., but it does freak me out when you're using the pitchfork ice pick in the leader - all I see is a trip to the emergency room. Congrats on 100K!
Not sure my comment went through. But love your vids. You make at-home bartending easy and fun. My previous comment was related to my switching up Drambuie for the Benedictine. I don't find Benedictine to be very sweet and did not balance out the bitterness of the walnut liqueur. So the new version is called The Rusty Gentlemen instead. The bourbon version was awesome as it was most likely due to the sweetness of the corn coming through in the Bourbon I chose. We look forward to your new videos all the time. And we love Oz as well....great couple.
100K!!! Congrats! Also replace the Stagg Jr with some Wild Turkey Rare Breed. Best barrel proof bourbon for the price IMHO
Excellent choice - and equally staggering! 🥃
Can't wait to try this one!
Here's to at least 500k :D keep it up!!!
