- In this video I explain why frogs in turnouts cause a natural short circuit, I resolve this problem and show how you can very simply power the frogs.

Welcome to my channel! Here I share my passion for model trains. I show everything from building benchwork, backdrops, track work, wiring, weathering, realistic train operations and book reviews. Everything you need to get started in the hobby no matter what scale! Please subscribe if you want to see more.
Short and sweet video, well done.👍👍👍
Thanks Ron, I could have talked for half an hour, but then no one would watch it!
Excellent video!! Explains the problem and the solution, but with a very clear visual using your diorama plan. Genius!!
Your welcome Tom.
I have over 20 Tam Valley frog 🐸 juicers on my layout, and they work perfectly 👍 !!! They are so easy to install ! I fully recommend them to anybody that does not want a dead frog 🐸!!!!!
great explanation of the polarity...the diagram really helps
Thanks Saw 👍🏻
Well done. I like how you use a diagram not point around on a turn out....
Thanks. It is all about making the issue at hand visual.
You put insulated jointers in the inside parts on a electrofrog so they dont short out and u put the polarity juicer in the middle and hopefully thatll change the electricity i had to throw away my previous switches bc we modofy them
Tam Valley Depot makes great stuff. It's unfortunate the owner got cancer (now in remittance but retired) and they lost one of their main employees to Covid.
According to the site today they're going to continue making "Frog Juicers; Mono, Dual, Hex; Circuit Breakers and DCC Boosters. All other products are discontinued." So if you like any of their 'other products', stock up on what's still out there.
Ow i didn't know that. I wish the owner well.
I am only familiar with the juicers. I did notice that the prices went up significantly over the past years.
I hope they, or a different owner, can continue the legacy of the juicers.
I love my Frog Juicers. When I had Atlas turnouts with their huge frogs, the Juicers were like magic on my DCC layout, letting trains run without hassles! Not such a problem with Peco turnouts with their shorter frogs. (FYI, I bought some Peco Insulfrogs and found no stalling or sound interrupt with 4 axel or larger diesels. No experience with steamers.)
Thanks for the input. I love frog juicers as well. But at these prices 😬😬. I need another 4 or 5 hexajuicers
@@DubaiTrains I've had mine for 8 or 9 years. Don't remember what I paid for them. I added the Peco Insulfrog comment in case people don't have the money for Frog Juicers, they may not need them, depending on what locos they are running.
The hexa juicer went from 50 to 90 usd. At least thats what i paid for them many years ago.
Hi, this seems like an amazing little device. Pardon my ignorance (I'm new to this) but I assume it only works with electro frog points? I use Peco set track points. Thanks.
Hi Steve, no need for the pardon. There is always a first time when you hear something.
The frog juicers will work with any turnout that has points that are conducting. Some turnouts though do not have pre wired frogs. So you will have to solder to it which can be tricky depending on the material. I hear the cast iron ones are tricky. I have soldered onto frogs of walthers turnouts. Again tricky as one can easily melt the surrounding plastic when doing so.
The peco unifrog and electrofrog come pre wired.
Hope this clears things up a bit.
Can I add the tortoise switch machine's frog wire to the nano frog juicer's middle point?
If you are using a switchmachine, you can directly connect the frog to the switch wire on the machine. There is no need for a frog juicer.
Sir you have connected the frog juice to the underneath wire then where you will connect switch motor please reply
Hi Swarnab. I content the frog juicer to the main bus. I don't use a switch motor.
Sir can I soldered the wire to the side of the frog to activate frog juice please reply
Hi, that depends on the turnout brand.
Sir I want to connect frog and switch motor also then where I will connect these wires please reply sir
Please check the frog juicer manual.
Sir can I use frog juicer in order to power the unifrog please please please reply 😟🥺🥺👍
Hi, yes you can.
With the lack of availability is there an alternative product?
I am working on a mechanical version with a simple switch and push rod. I explain this here: ruclips.net/video/MmrY3bWtfUs/видео.html
As fsr as 1:1 alternatives go, unfortunatly not!!? So any electrical design engineer who can design a similar product please reach out to me. It is such a hole in the market.
Caboose Industries sell 220S and 119R manual switch machine with a SPDT contacts to power the frog/signals/relays. When you switch the track, the frog polarity is switched as well without causing a short, which can be bad for your decoder even for a nanosecond.
Almost forgot, they cost $5 or $6.
so every turnout should have a juicer? wow that can get to be a lot of work and expense, if a person wants to build a big yard, you could have 30 or more switches....
Correct. That is of you want to power the frogs. Come folks just don't power them.
I have also noticed that frog juicers are getting costly. So now i am trying a new methode with switches that are 80 cents a piece. I start talking about it here. ruclips.net/video/iIy6-iWA7tk/видео.html
@@DubaiTrains Im about 2 months into researching this hobby to see if I want to get into it,. i find the yards and switching the most interesting, and most expensive, but i'm starting to worry it will cost more than I want upwards of $8000....
@@sawwas4677 There are many aspects to consider when planning for a layout. Here is more on that:

Shut. OFF. The Music. Or turn it down by half, not a little. This is 2 years old and I just subbed here from an older vid. I hope this doesn't happen a lot.
Hi Jim, it isn't possible to mix the volume when published. So it is what it is for now. The newer videos have better audio.
