  • We are going to build Rock Sliders for my 4X4 Sports mobile Van. Using a laser to cut out Chromoly tubing for these rock rails. My friend Justin from the RUclips channel "The Fabrication Series" welded up this project in his shop In Las Vegas. I will show you all of design challenges in the video. We floated a lot of ideas, and in the end came up with what I think is an amazing build. Check out this hi energy video.

    There has been a dearth of videos...so yes please all the van build videos will be grasiously acepted. It was good to see the evolution of a design from scratch to finish. Great video Dale, thumbs up.

    You should absolutely do more videos on your van project. But add more details than you did In this video.

    I would be especially interested in that high lift jack, I keep balking at the cost of buying one, so the idea of seeing one built really intrigues me. I also want to see the other stuff :)

    I think if you run a formed 3mm sheet behind the rail we're it's bolted to the car to reinforce/spread the impact.

    I'd really like to see you go out and drag your van across some rocks with those rock rails. I'm very skeptical that mounting them to the body was anywhere near strong enough. Lots of money for something that looks nice and gives you a wonderfully false sense of security. I hope I'm wrong. So lets see a test video!

    Could you add some small gusset plates from the frame to the plates you added for the rails, to reinforce them? Space or any other problems aside, that would keep them from bending up the sheet metal, and be much stronger overall...

    never bolt something like this to the body.... ALWAYS to the frame.... first major rosk he hits is going to bend up the body, and cause major damage, defeating the purpose of rock sliders... I would rather have dropped the bars off the the frame, and lost a slight amount of ground clearance bolt on plates that encapsulate the frame rail like the mobtown offroad sliders.

    • @petermurphy3354
      @petermurphy3354 4 года назад

      I was thinking the same, seeing how it flexed when he stood on it. Maybe add some 1/2" plates across to the chassis/frame & bolted through the chassis/frame might suffice.
