    In this video, Lloyd teaches you how you can learn forward crossovers right from your home!
    Ice rinks have closed down due to the lockdown, but that doesn't mean you can't still get better at figure skating. With the correct off-ice training, you can improve your figure skating leaps and bounds!
    Forward crossovers are a fundamental thing to learn for beginner figure skaters, and they can be very overwhelming at first. Understanding what you have to do and how to do it before you go onto the ice can be a huge benefit.

    With each new video You're getting more creative! I never thought I could learn crossovers off-ice.
    BTW, maybe You could film some exercises for balance. It is something that figure skaters are masters of.

      Haha thanks! I really had to sit down and think how to practice crossovers on the floor effectively! Then I came up with this solution. I try my best to do things that are very helpful, and you won't find anywhere else 🙂
      Great suggestion too, I can work on a video to help with balance!

    I've been practicing crossing over going up and down stairs, can do two stairs per step now, don't know how useful that will be when I get back on the ice though.

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 года назад +1

      Practicing them up and down the stairs is a good idea! I would advise you also practice the exercises in my off ice 3 turn video too, as they will really help you hit the body facing the center of the circle position in crossovers once you get back on the ice!

    This video is making me anxious :D I’m constantly waiting vor that band to snap.
    But props to your creativity, a perfect mixture of fun and workout. I don’t have band like this at home, but I’m enjoying this series non the less. I set myself other goals until our rink opens again: free handstand and the splits. Because I just started skating I can’t forget that much and I’m fine with starting back at zero (I’m hoping for muscle memory and making progress faster the second time around). And working on flexibility as well as controlled strength will help me and keeps me occupied during this time. And the sore muscles give me a perfect excuse to just lounge on my balcony and fall asleep in the afternoon sun like I did the last days.

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 года назад

      That is a very VERY heavy duty band! I'm 200lbs and it completely supports my weight. I had bigger doubts over the door!
      Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed the video 🙂
      Great idea setting the goals and good goals!
      We are working on a splits video, which should be helpful when it's released! Also I'm sure our spiral height video will be helpful to you 👍
      Definitely jealous of your afternoon sun..... living in the uk we don't get much of that 😂

    Im from the silicon valley and this is innovation people :). I love elastic bands they have improved my overall strength in my strides off ice. do you think you will be making more videos like this after the quarantine, they are really entertaining. i mean its all business on the ice, but this makes it very fun to watch all the way through

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 года назад

      Haha thanks 🙂 I really tried to go all out for this one! I'm a huge fan of exercise bands too, when we are touring doing shows, they are so easy to travel and give you a great workout.
      The plan is to keep making the videos after the quarantine, trying to make them as entertaining and helpful as possible.
      I can make a lot at the moment as I'm unemployed due to corona virus (touring shows all closed down), but as it's something I really enjoy doing I'll keep doing it as a hobby in my free time when I'm back to work.
      The dream is to grow the RUclips channel and Patreon big enough so that I can turn it into my job! Either way I have a great time doing it 🙂

    • @IceCoachOnline

      I can ad how I anchored the belt to the door in another video, or If you DM me on Instagram I can send a photo. You basically tie a knot in it and then thread it through through the gap in the door, then check it's secure and not going anywhere.
      Tessa might make an appearance in a future video (that was an actual picture of her at the end), but she's 15 now and not too active anymore.

    Could you try this with skates and blade guard on?

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 года назад +2

      You could, but you would have to be careful that they didn't slip, making you fall. This is the reason I didn't do it with my skates on in the video, my floor was too slippery, It was like getting in the ice in skate guards 😂
      I think I could have glued rubber to the bottom of my guards to fix this, but I didn't have any ☹️

    Can u do backwards crossovers

  • @zikzinpat
    @zikzinpat 4 года назад

    I couldn’t do well for my the other side forward crossover, my coach said I am broken from my waist, for my upper body is leaning to the circle while my foot doesn’t and stay straight, how to improve it to make it as good as my usual side? If I am not possible to make a same setting as yours of band at my door 😂

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 года назад +1

      It's tough to say what exactly the problem is without seeing it for myself. It sounds like you're not getting fully over your outside edge when skating the other way. I would advise working on holding out edges (inside and also outside) on a circle the bad way.
      Off the ice, work on the exercises in my off ice 3 turn video. This will help you develop the strength to get the correct position (body facing the center of the circle) on your forward crossovers.

    Nah, I once tried a pull-up on a freshly installed door bar, to see if it was gonna hold my weight (it didn't...) and fell down on my butt, the bar still in my hands (giving my 14 kg heavier father, who had just tested it successfully 20 seconds earlier, a laughing fit). I don't think it gets much riskier than that :D
