Please, please make more off the ice skating exercises! I am a beginner, and I’m having balance issues, especially with my left leg since it is not the dominant leg. Thank you so much
Most gyms have bosu balls - no need to buy your own. I am determined to experiment to improve balancing on my edges using it. Don't care if I get funny stares. My daughter Hannah (right in profile picture) won six certificate in her first term learning figure skating. She loves Coach Julia!
Congrats to Hannah! That is awesome! Yes, I usually use the Bosu Ball at my gym, and often incorporate free weights into my use of it. I say, just go for at the gym, who cares what the rest think! 😁
I’m getting so frustrated trying to get onto my outside edges, but can see that I need to work on strength - it’s not just all in my head (fear). Looking forward to seeing your new app and taking it in my pocket to the rink.
I'm always amused that one of the reasons I took up skating was to strengthen my ankles (which have always had a tendency to turn under me) and now I'm trying to strengthen my ankles in order to skate better. :-D Thank you as always - I'm hoping this will help with the edges, especially skating backwards which has the bonus challenge of not being able to see where I'm going unless I turn my head which immediately adds wobbles. And your video last week about practicing balancing just behind the rocker will help build the muscle memory I need to get my stubborn two-foot turns without overthinking myself to a halt!
That is a funny turn-around! Skating does build ankle strength, but we also need strong ankles for skating! 😆 I see that you are a new member of my channel, Thank you so much!!
I'm an old skater, its been about 40 years since i skated, Ice Dancing, The Rocker Foxtrot, Killian, Blues, and many others, I tried to skate with new boots and dance blades a few months ago and could hardly stand, i had a few lessons, and managed to glide very cautiously, but unfortunately had a few falls, which knocked my confidence levels, seeing your videos and the off ice exercise with the Bosu ball have given me a new hope, i have ordered a ball, and hope to strengthen my legs and feet, you said doing the balance things pointing the foot to the side and back etc. pointing to the front would help a dancer extend the leg and point the toe, which happens a lot in dance. Thanks for rekindling and old man in hoping to dance again. cheers. John. Australia.
Skaters who do not have a BOSU ball may benefit from one of these alternatives: (1) A folded up bath towel, folded to be as thick or as thin as you want. (2) A thick pillow. (3) A folded up yoga mat. Place the folded up towel (or option (2) or (3)) on the floor, step one foot on it and do the one-foot balance exercises that you want.
Thank you soooo much for this video. I am a brand new skater and I struggle so much with balance. As a result, I have zero confidence and I'm like a scared cat who clings to the wall. I'm so appreciative that there is something I can do to help develop my balance off the ice.
Thank you so much Julia! I’ve only last year started my skating journey so am still in the basic levels but 100% believe this will help improve my edges. This will also help me on my inline skates as I got them to use when I couldn’t or didn’t have time to go to the rink (as I have a hours drive to my nearest rink :(. Im now searching online for a balance ball. Thank you for your recommendation trying to find a U.K alternative.
Coach Julia, thank you sooo much!!! Please, more on Bosu ball exercises!!!! You are the best! My coach is amazing here but to hear a different explanation or reinforcement of what she is saying is invaluable!
Definitely want to try these but ouch, that bosu ball isn't cheap. Hopefully there are alternatives that are still good but less expensive! I'd always suspected that my edge control was a strength issue so I'm glad there's something off ice I can do to help!
There are definitely cheeper versions out there. I can't speak to the quality, but it could be worth checking them out so that you can try the exercises!
Thank you so much for the video! I find that I can't quite trust my skates enough to completely shift my weight over and balance on one foot on the ice, but when I wear my skates off-ice to practice balancing, my feet wobble all over the place! I'll definitely look into that bosu ball and try those exercises.
I’m switching from goalie skates BACK to figure skating after 20 years, I haven’t figure skated since I was 9, your content has been very helpful as a lot of the “beginner” figure skate videos are for people who can’t skate at all. That app sounds awesome, where do I find it?
This video is super helpful! I've been trying to find a good off ice workout for a while now. Ordered the bosu ball and just waiting for it to arrive! My biggest struggle right now is with crossovers. I've been stuck at LTS adult 5 for a while now because I cannot figure out how to do the backwards crossover. Any tips or workouts on/off the ice that I can do to improve backwards crossovers? My biggest struggle with them is that I cannot get my feet to cross over without feeling like I am going to trip. 😅
First off- have you seen my backwards crossover tutorial? ruclips.net/video/9mhnUmSCTUY/видео.html I also like to have my students practice doing two-foot glides with their legs crossed, both forwards and backwards. You can do this near the wall in a straight line to get used to it.
Cool! I agree - question of strength!!!! Thank you for you inspirations. 🦚👌🙏🤓👏💖💯🌿🤗😊🌸 I will use some topics and issues for my meditation on skates! Thank you!
Hey julia i live your vids i am a beginner in ice skating and so i love your vids it helps me a lot i want to join but I can’t see the join button i am using an iPhone to watch your videos can you tell me where can I join?
I know this Is a bit off topic from the video but I think youd be the one to help me out. Do you think it's time for me to get new skates (I have Jackson freestyles right now)? I've had them for a year and about a month now. They just started hurting really badly. There's already pressure on the ball of my foot and usually it hurts a bit after but the other day it was like 3× as much. Anf the tongue of my skates are so bendy (a bit too much). I'll be greatful for the feedback :).
sorry if you’ve touched on this already but i’m having an issue with my two-foot spin where i always accidentally shift my weight too far forward and end up falling out of my spin because i’m off-balance, or, worst case scenario, catch my toe picks and fall. any advice on correcting that?
Hi….I am trying to join, but for some reason it’s not letting me. I subscribed…but I’d also like to join the membership and get access to the app once that’s up and running. Is anyone else having the same problem?
I’ve really needed this as an unfit adult beginner in her 30s. Having so much trouble with my balance and struggling to nail down the one-foot glide.
That can be improved with some exercise and practice!
you got this!! everyone can learn to skate no matter age, gender, or size :) you’re doing awesome already!! ♥️
preach! also in that over-30s-learn-to-balance club
It really makes a difference
I’m a beginner as well, 27 y.o
Please, please make more off the ice skating exercises! I am a beginner, and I’m having balance issues, especially with my left leg since it is not the dominant leg. Thank you so much
Thank you! I've searched for balance video bc I struggle with it. Can you do more videos with training off-ice?
I would be happy to make more! I will put some things together.
@@CoachJulia Oh, that's cool! I'll be waiting! :D

Exactly what I needed. More off ice! 🤩Thank you, Julia.

Awe, so sweet!

Oh my goodness, thank you so much!! I appreciate you!
I did off-ice exercises every day. It does help with manoeuvres.

Thank you for the tutorial!! I tried these out today at the gym 😄 I imagine it will get easier with time haha

Hi Julia, Thank you so much for this video. How often should we do these bosu exercises?
Thanks. Useful as usual. Any off-ice training for inside 3 turns and closed mohawks?
so excited for the app!!
Hi Coach Julia, Thanks for this awesome advice! I always wondered how to do proper off-ice exercise and this seems just really perfect!
Great training video! Thanks!
Thank you so much Coach Julia! I'm a newbie and your videos so helpful and simple to understand. And I can't wait for your app to come out!

Awesome , love the video !
Thanks so much!
Do you have alternatives for those who can't afford a bosu ball? 😅
I need this
Thank you so much for this 😚 will this also help with finding the right part on your skates to spin? I’m always falling onto the toe pick
This can help, as well as last week's video!
This kind of video is so much helpful!! Thank you!! I have a question: is it better to practice with shoes or barefoot?
Hi, Coach Julia! New (adult) skater here. Love your vids and ready for the app! Happy to beta test if available!
Thanks for checking in and the positive feedback!
My understanding is that BOSU stands for ‘both sides up’ or ‘both sides utilized’ so there isn’t a right/wrong side.
Please advice off ice exercises for the Mohawk
I don’t have a good hips turnout at all
Thank you!
How often should we practice these exercises and for how long? :)
Backward outside edge!!! It’s such an uncomfortable direction of movement on top of the fact that my ankle collapses to the inside.
do you have any recommendations on how often/how many reps we should do daily/bidaily?
can you do a video on any balance exercises without the bosu ball? i can’t get it right now because it’s pretty expensive
Cool! I agree - question of strength!!!!
Thank you for you inspirations.

Ok I hope this helps with my left inside edge. It is my weakest.
So frustrating that one side of our body is always just a bit weaker! These will help!
my physio gave me those exercises a year ago when I had a problem with my ankle now I wish I would have really stocked sticked with them 😅😂
