Wow what an adventure, what a video!! Love it. Can literally feel the heartbreak when you have to call it, hope now that some time has passed you realize how blessed you are to have experienced such a journey, and what a very very wise decision you made to get out before the storm hit. Great debrief at the end. Terrific video, thanks!!
The hardest part about any adventure is deciding when it’s time to call it quits. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come close to death and wish I had the wisdom to turn back sooner. Nice video.
Thanks! Yeah I get it. This wasn’t an easy decision, but I’m thankful I was able to think clearly about it since I’ve also been in many near death situations myself
Thank you. Great filming and narration. I was saddened that you were forced off the trail by the hurricane. You were doing so well, with so much enthusiasm. You’re young and will hopefully have another chance. Don’t skip any trail. Keep trying for another permit. Good luck!
We were stuck in rae lakes that time cuz of the hurricane. We sheltered on the porch of the ranger station for one day and we started going up to glenn pass the next day
The bridge over the San Joaquin was removed a couple of weeks ago. A trail maintenance crew had set up camp near it and I talked to a ranger about the replacement bridge. She had no timeline but was reassuring that the new bridge would be installed ASAP. I finished up that section on 9/19. Good video and thanks for posting.
Yeah I heard! The crew was doing trail maintenance about 500 yards from the bridge the day I crossed. They were making their way toward it. I think they set up camp at the bridge a day or two after we crossed. I heard something like 2 years out for a new bridge but that’s all speculation haha
I really enjoyed watching this video. Very well put together. I just uploaded my first backpacking youtube video and I am hoping to make videos as good as this one. Thank you for posting
@@robbietreksI hiked 2022. Near perfect weather. I couldn’t summit mt Whitney due to weather and was bummed about that so I can just barely imagine what it was like for you two. 2023 seems like a crazy year!
Ah that’s sad! There’s always next year!! 😀We were looking forward to mt Whitney so much and then all the trailheads closed so we couldn’t even get back on the trail if we wanted to!
Great job you two! Sorry to see that you had to cut it short because of the hurricane :( Such a gamble with the weather and fires when you're out there so long huh?! Amazing how fast the snow melts. We were out there just a couple of weeks later, and there was so much less snow than what ya'll had to deal with. Loved the review at the end!
27:08 Yeah, totally agree. You think you will have more time but betwen hiking and recovering there's barely enough time to boil water or set up the tent.
Best advice I did PCT in 2011 and swore if I ever did it again I would ware hiking boots in the JT . My ultras were awesome from Mexico to the JT and exiting the JT to Canada but in hindsight boots are a better choice for the JT note I have hiked over 40,000 mile not an amateurs.
Hmm - on day 17, where you said you were at Lower Palisade Lakes, you show Evolution Creek and McClure meadow (11:48 in your video). I know that particular site very well (The Hermit is the rounded granite peak behind McClure meadow), but that is in Evolution Valley, on the north side of Muir Pass, so that clip is definitely out of order. Just FYI...
Yes thank you for making that note. You are right, I was dealing with many hours of footage lol I’m not at all surprised I messed up the order of something hah
Oh we didn’t. We carried 5-7 days at a time. We had three supply points along the way where we had shipped food ahead to ourselves. That was the biggest challenge when planning the whole trip!
Excellent. That storm was no joke.
No kidding!
Hi the two of you, Dane and I met you at Tuolumne Meadows when we gave you some coffee. Awesome video, thanks for sharing, very well done !!!
Hey Juergen! We were hoping we would run into the two of you again!! We enjoyed your company. I hope your trip finished well!

Absolutely brilliant work guys, this was such a atmospheric episode! Outstanding presentation 👏👏
Thank you!! Ahh I see you already watched the thing!! Thank you!!
Awesome video

Thanks! We are probably going to try to get a permit to finish it next season!

Glad you got to continue
Very encouraging adventure, "not sucks" at all. Keep on Jen and Rob.👊(wish my boys could all do things like this🎉)
Thank you!!
very nice vid !! love it

Loved your video and following it. Do you think you guys will return and finish the trail another year?
Thank you!! Yes absolutely! Maybe next year?? We’re considering the PCT too now which seemed totally out of reach before doing the JMT!
Awesome job!!
Thank you!
Really great video liked the way you named all the lakes for us
Thank you! Yeah the lakes were stunning! Probably one of our favorite parts
@@robbietreks did several sections of the trail when I was in scouts. It’s gorgeous.
You mentioned at the end about getting rid of the wrong equipment and getting equipment that works. What did you get rid of? What did you acquire?
We got rid of some extra layers and generally stuff that we deemed unnecessary, and got bug nets!
I feel your pain! So hard to leave the trail. What a magical place ❤
It really is! I think it’s my favorite place in the world now and I knew nothing about it prior to going haha! Did you hike it this year?

Yes it was! @@robbietreks
Lots of traditional gear , very interesting
What do you mean by traditional gear?
27:08 Yeah, totally agree. You think you will have more time but betwen hiking and recovering there's barely enough time to boil water or set up the tent.
Yea so true

I think it depends on the months you’re hiking. I had boots on here and it was miserable. Wish I had trail runners even through the snow 😅
Nice
Thanks!
hiker chiclets!! Haha, I love that!
Thanks we got that from another hiker at VVR

What days did you actually go. What month?
We started august 1st!
how were you guys able to carry 26 days of food?
Oh we didn’t. We carried 5-7 days at a time. We had three supply points along the way where we had shipped food ahead to ourselves. That was the biggest challenge when planning the whole trip!
Bit by a bee, stung by a bee… does it really matter? Yeeesh 😅
Not really sure what you’re implying here..
