True, but those were all megabuck cars (the NSX less so than the others). There were also a ton of great cars lower down the line. The Supra, Mazda RX7, Dodge Viper, Mitsubishi 3000GT, etc. The 90s were awesome, especially following the dismal 70s and 80s.
Purple Diablo...i will always remember this, from the 1990's! This was one of my dream cars, as it appeared in this colour, in Topgear magazine! Up there with a silver XJ220, a royal blue Aston Martin Vantage 600, a grigor titanium Ferrari 550, red F355, a purple paradiso TVR 5.0 Chimera and a dark blue late 90's Subaru Impreza Turbo.
The Diablo SV and GT are still the best looking Lamborghinis ever made IMO. This is the first SV I've seen wearing the 1994 SE30 paint color and I LOVE it!
"Gotta love the 90s". I absolutely do. I had a lot of posters from 90s supercars on my walls when I was a kid. They looked better and sounded better back then and they were made for people who knew how to drive. Also, they were rare and special. I remember a time that Ferrari made only 3 models, F355, 456M, and 550 Maranello. These days it's hard to keep track of all these supercars, especially with Mclaren making 1000 models of the same car! It definitely makes today's supercars less special.
The supercar world has changed hasn’t it and it’s all about demand. Blame those posters on your wall as a kid as it’s made us all dream and aspire to own one! Yep remember those Ferrari models well! Good times
I agree what you said about McLaren. Tbh only one I care about is the F1.. Hell you cant even pop “The hood” on these new ones and see the engine. Lame
@@lemonstranglerwell for starters, most were manual. They also didn’t really have any electronic assistance. No power steering, abs, etc. This made them much more difficult to handle at high speeds than modern cars.
This is a very authentic and accurate review of the Lamborghini Diablo in a SV iteration. I own 3 Diablos one of which is a 1993 SE30 in Lavender Purple; a 95 Diablo VT and a 2001 Diablo VT 6.0 in Viola Ophelia (purple pearl). The driver/reviewer in this SCD review is spot on.
I will always love a proper analog supercar like this one. Like you said: not everyone can just go out and drive one. I personally love that you have to learn and repsect these cars. If not? They give you a slap.
Exactly! Took us a while to start to feel comfortable and even then you have to treat it with so much respect. Makes the drive so much more rewarding and such an iconic shape. Love it
It's been my favorite car since I was a late-90s kid and played NFS Hot Pursuit 3 on my 95-98 computer. I had a big poster of it on my wall. It's gotta be either yellow with the black SV logo, or purple (with a black or gold logo). Awesome video! I'd better start saving my pennies....
Back in the 90’s I was lucky enough to passenger in both Countach and Diablo’s whilst drag racing on the Taxi-way at Southend airport with the Lamborghini club UK. Although the Countach was my school boy dream poster car I much preferred the Diablo. Funny enough the car that really impressed the Lamborghini guys back then was a lone BMW 850 CSI that was able to launch far harder than the assembled Lamborghini’s.
That was absolutely amazing !!!! My dream supercar from the 90's in the perfect color 🙌🏽 There are more ultimate versions of the Diablo but this is the one to have, with or without the SV tatooed to its side ! Well done for picking the right one 👏🏽 Looking forward to more videos !
Without a doubt the most beautiful Lamborghini ever made If I won the lottery I wouldn’t bother with the aventador this is it colour and the noise is awesome amazing supercar!
In 1999 i tested a red Lamborghini Diablo VT with the same dash and it was the best car ever ... Dumb and Dumber introduced this Legend and i fell in love with it since 🚘 What a car .
This used to be my favourite car, along with the Ferrari F50, when I was a child (born in 1995, same year as the SV 😎) thanks to countless hours playing NFS Hot Pursuit and High Stakes! Amazing video! The purple looks stunning and it sounds epic as well. I'm surprised there's only 12 in the UK, I thought there'd be more. Anyway, my top favourite 90s supercars - F50, Diablo SV, F1, XJ220, CLK GTR and Elise GT1.
My favourite 90s car is the Porsche 993 RS. A very pretty car with the standard (small) RS wing, 300hp, and all the details just right (Recaro buckets, beautiful Speedline alloys unique to the car, some weight saving bits). Not too ostentatious either!
Love these, from a time when supercars would kill you for getting it wrong. I have driven a Lambo Perf and really didn't rate it, you really can drive them every day. For me a supercar is an event to drive and special at every turn. Cars like this have that magic that has sadly disappeared in recent years but as said the newer cars work when you need them to and can be driven easier when you don't feel like really driving them.
Brilliant video thanks. I owned a black Diablo for 6 years and loved it. I upgraded to a Murcielago which is also an awesome car. I’ve recently bought an Aventador (All cars in black!) which is great but the annoying thing is lights come on, service lights, brake lights etc and it’s only done 4K miles! The old cars with no computer crap I think is way better!
The 90s were truly a golden era for cars: Diablo; McLaren F1; Ferrari 512tr, f355, F50; Lotus Esprit 300; Porsche 911 turbo S (964), 928 GTS; Lancia Delta Integrale EVO; Maserati Shamal; BMW 850 CSI, M3 (e36) and M5 (e34); Merc SL (r129), e500 (w124) and 190 evo2; Mitsu 3000GT; Supra; RX7; Impreza GT; Skyline GT-R (R33)... Thank you for this review!
If I ever won the lottery, I'd 100% do a no expenses spared 1999 Diablo VT (with the end goal of having look like or be "inspired by" the 99/2000 Diablo GT) restomod with the goal of getting the thing down to around 2800-3000lbs (fully carbon body, etc), around 850hp to the wheels, widebody, fully updated interior, fix all the known problems, etc
This is my dream car i grew up with a poster of this on my wall and you have it in the same colour as the one on my wall and personally for me the best colour for them Viola purple. One day i hope to get the opportunity to have a ride in one although they do always say dont meet your heros as the might disappoint you. Man what a car, lucky owner
Drove one of these on a track day many years ago- a real challenge to drive. Narrow pedal box, a gear lever at elbow height, and slightly further back than you’d like. Got overtaken by a Cooper S driven by an instructor, and I tried to keep up- nearly spun it on the next bend. The weight of that V12 against your back was all prevailing. I certainly was nowhere near mastering the SV. Favourite 90s supercar? Has to be McLaren F1, followed by Ferrari F355
I used to own that car back in 1998/99 I couldn’t go anywhere in it because people and police would not leave me alone. All they wanted to do was take pictures and look. I dealt out of it for a 355 F1 Spider which was far more user friendly. Good to see it still out there though !!
Love it Jonty. SCD HQ looks pretty special at a glance from the showroom. Any chance of a video one day to show us around the collection from past and present?
Great vid, though I cannot stand the term hypercar. The Diablo SV is one my fav bulls, and it sounds like a 70s Le Mans racer. Easily the greatest sounding engine ever.

The Diablo SV was always the car of choice when I played Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit as a kid. Good times 😂
Good times indeed 😂 Thanks for watching
That yellow one with the big black SV on the hips of the car was always the dream spec 🔥🔥🔥
Still my favorite Lambo of all time
Me too!
Damn, that takes me back
Same feelings here, dam old good times, the yellow sv whit big black SV! On the Nfs 3hp... Great dream car too!
Timeless design! Still looks more beautiful than modern day supercars. The roof scoopes, the curvature of the doors is just sensational
It reminds me COSMIC GIRL from Jamiroquai
It does! If only it was an SE30 👌
This is my bedroom wall poster car I had from 5 years old and sparked my interest in cars.. This car will always be legendary!
Ours too! That and an F50
Traction control is the super wide rear tires and wing... good luck.
True all managed by how much pressure you apply on the right pedal 😅
Would love to see how new tyres would transform this car.

Indeed, although the purple ones in the magazines were generally SE30's rather than SVs. I do prefer the styling of the SV though.

Saw a yellow Diablo a few weeks ago in town. Heard it before I saw it. Very wide, very low. Cars like these stick out so much among 'regular' cars.
