I have this lens, M42 mount. It 's actually quite okay for portraits when adapted on my Sony A7Rii. as I couldn't afford the Voigtlander 180mm F4 APO Lanthar that costs probably more than 15 times as much. But for about the same money, you could actually get a Topcon 200mm F5.6 Exakta mount that produces more contrast and sharpness at wide open. BTW you should try out the MOG 135mm F2.8 aka "Bokeh monster". It 's a much better "character lens".

If I find one I'll be happy to try it!

my version (sn 27xxxxx) has shade with additional glass element. It needs some CLA (micro dust on elements) but it was cheap find on ebay (something like 12e) so I cannot complain. Although I didn't tried it properly yet, so far yea, kinda blue-ish tone with low contrast, but we'll see after CLA and on sunnier days. As for other Mayer Optik lenses, Lydith 30/3.5 is great; Primagon 35/4.5 took a bit of a practice but ended up as interesting and nice lens; Trioplan 50/2.9 is love-hate relationship; Primotar E 50/3.5 also waits for CLA; Domiplan 50/2.8 deserves more attention; Oreston 50/1.8 is also great but rarely used; got couple of telephoto lenses but I rarely use them. If i need to single out 2 - I wouldn't choose Trioplan 100/2.8 but instead Telefogar 90/3.5 and Primotar 135/3.5

I can handle most issues but low contrast doesn’t do it for me. Im wondering if this would be better for high contrast b&w film.
