25:20 The charging handles poking out is a big problem when slinging the rifle on your back, its a pointy thing jamming you in the center of your back whenever you move. The silliest part is they used to have folding charging handles in earlier versions of the MDR and they moved away from that
They got rid of the folding handle because it was a common failure point of the previous models. When I sold the POS that was my MDRX it snapped off when the new owner was checking function. If you look around online there's other reports of this issue.
@@Thecarbonviper Yeah I had heard that, it's really a shame that instead of redesigning the part to be more robust they just gave up on the idea, seems to be a bit of a trend from DT. I still want to find a folding MDRX handle at least for the left side of the rifle because otherwise slinging it is no fun at all.
@@Thecarbonviper The easy way to fix that is to use a more robust hinge mechanism with a beefier, machined pin but I guess that's too much to ask on a $2000 rifle.
Desert Tech - "Folding charging handle are cool!" Whiney customers - We hate folding charging handles! They break and stuff. Desert Tech - "Fine. Have it your way!" Gun That's - "We want folding charging handles." 😂
Imma be real, most gun owners are kinda retarded and want every gun to be exactly like their AR. That problem is desert tech doesn’t have mil contracts yet so they have to listen to this civilian customer base. For example I wish they kept the previous case extractor device but people kept running shitty Tula in their $2k bull pup rifle and kept getting extraction issues. The debt of stupidity knows no bounds, especially when they have money to spend.
@@NicholasYoungDT I don't think anyone ever asked for straight/Bren 2 charging handles. Just charging handles that didn't break at inconvenient times. Probably could have made the old ones work using a reinforced or a 15-5/17-4 stainless steel post. That being said, there might be an opportunity for parts compatibility with the Bren 2 charging handles, the posts are really close. Bren 2 has aftermarket charging handles that fold. If you made ones that worked for the MDR/MDRx/WLVRN and Bren 2/3 it would probably have a much larger market.
Desert Tech seems like a great company, I appreciate the transparency, it seems like they always make things right with their customers. If I could afford one, I'd take one in 308.

I had hoped the teething issues would have been solved by now. I had a 308 MDR back in 2019, it had accuracy and reliability issues that were made much worse when ran with a silencer

The one thing about bullpups that always bothers me is that length of pull looks absolutely obscene at a glance. What is the length of pull on that thing?
Bullpup haters be like "No, I'd rather someone make the 1000000000th AR15 variant than have a longer barrel in a shorter chassis, with far better weight distribution."
I have always thought bullpups were super cool, in idea. It seemed that nobody had ever very excellently executed it. I will say the Wlvrn is not perfect from what I read. That being said- I think this video is the final straw for me- I think they're finally getting good enough for me to justify getting one. Awesome review guys.
Then you'd have everyone crying about the overall weight of the gun. Then compare it to an AR loaded down with aftermarket crap that weighs 8 oz heavier and still crap on the bullpup.
Unless they changed it somehow the handguard is a massive issue for running lasers on, zero shift etc. I think at one point they had tried improving it or it was just the after market mantis, but the design just doesn't let it get very solid from all the old videos I've seen and my xp with the mdr. Interesting this 3rd gen isn't being offered in sbr lengths with the 300blk? If i had a stroke and tried then yet again I'd like something like the micro and a 11.5/12.5 ish 556 barrel.
Sucks thr handguard isn't more robust for zero shift. That said, the 20 inch is probably the one with sufficient length to comfortably mount LAMs anyway.
I wanted one of these for the longest, and I almost bought one. But, the eay bufferless AR tech is coming, I think a bufferless upper with a bullpup kit might be the ridle of the future. We'll see though, thanks for the video!
I've wanted one for the longest time, in MDRX days too. There's just too many issues with it that AR's don't have. The loss in ballistics for a shorter than 16 inch barrel isn't worth all these problems.
The Desert Tech WLVRN (Wolverine) seems to be an extremely flexible and capable platform. Being able to switch from 223 to 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor on the same system is nice. BUT... that flexibility does cause potential issues. I am planning on eventually buying a 16 inch & 20 inch 308, along with the BLK-LBL metal handguard.
