What nice young men in the shooting sports! It sure would be a shame if some old guy with terrible eyesight and an ego DQ-ed one of them for no reason...
Seriously- watching the video and the stage design is hot garbage to be requiring what looks like a pivot from one side to the next in the extreme of the 180. I could maybe see a reload being pivoted and that could break it but frankly- shit stage design by the looks of it
USPSA shooter and CRO/RO for 17 years. From what we can see on the camera, that looked like a bad call. But unfortunately we are all human and mistakes happen. If we ever did look into video review, we'd probably need to invest in equipment and standardized placement to keep it equal. Thank you guys for supporting and promoting our sport. Always love seeing the guntubers at matches.
That’s a fair response but do you think there is harm in it if the competitor can provide clearly exonerating video evidence (not specifically this situation) but just in general?
I see no harm in that at all, and would welcome it myself. This is a sport and the top performers can often perform way faster than our eyes and brains can process, so why not use the technology? I think that may be what happened here. The RO saw a flash of something on the muzzle that made him think STOP...
Agreed. It seems to me at least that there is an unwillingness to change a call once it’s been made (this RO loudly declared that he wasn’t going to discuss it so everyone shouldn’t even bother talking to him). Is it perceived as bad ROing to do that? It seems to me that a good RO when presented with evidence would be happy to change their call and let a competitor back into the match. It’s incredibly difficult to be infallible when these things are happening so quickly.
Yeah so we are getting personal here and I love USPSA so this is my biased view point. I think the ROs job is beyond just scoring and safety. We are ambassadors of the sport and the organization. We need to be professional and courteous. We are essentially in customer service and the shooters are the customers. Bad experiece for the customer means they may not come back. No customers, no sport. I'm not saying we should spoil the shooters or not give shooters what they earn, but we need to be professional about it. As we all know, there are ROs with a chip on their shoulder who bring way too much ego and attitude to the range. Those people are everywhere in life of course, but I wish we had fewer of them running timers. I have made mistakes on the range as a shooter and RO. I appreciate having them called out so I can learn and get better. But that's just me and I might be the minority these days.
@@TheMakeReadyRanch Its reasons like this that after I got out of the military that I'm done with power tripping egos, gatekeeping, and outdated systems that REFUSE to change or update. I was thinking about going to a USPSA match, but they will probably just DQ me if I start winning just as they did here. Clearly you can't give all the power to one RSO that can be a bias tyrant for any reason, and no one can check him.

Love the channel, esp this video! Bad break on the DQ, Hunter. I had heard about this "extremely questionable" call and I'm glad I finally got to see the footage of it. I don't think any other ROs would have made the same call there... Also, really appreciated the accidental shoutout @14:20! I got a kick out of it and so I made my wife (the other half of my tiny channel) watch it. We've both always found your content extremely entertaining and useful.

I finally got around to watching this video and I loved it! I need to start shooting competition. What little camera do you guys use on your ball caps?
Blake Miguez, a Louisiana State Representative, is a fantastic shooter. His transition splits are so well-regarded that there's even a drill named after him, the "blake drill".
Wyoming was based and Wyoming pilled. But seriously, I can’t think of anywhere else where the governor comes and checks out a big match, gives facetime to competitors, and even shoots a few stages. That was awesome to see. We loved it.
Just wanted to caution ya'll on doing the ice water dip with the head. Know someone that showered hismelf with ice water after playing basketball and caused an aneurysm and stroke. Man passed afterwards. I know its hot but don't do sudden temperature changes, especially with your head.
I had to look up what a 180 violation was, and after understanding it and the scenarios where it can occur I looked at the video frame-by-frame. I think it was quite borderline but even in the video I can see enough of a muzzle turn during the reload for a couple frames to say that it might have been a valid call. The problem with relying on the video however (whether to prove or disprove) is that it's a rather limited frame of reference, due to lack of field of view, lack of depth perception, and low frame rate. Someone who is experienced in monitoring for these things and calling it out when witnessed in person I'd actually argue is the more trustworthy way to judge things. If things were to be judged on camera you'd likely want a standardized setup of multiple cameras (like on either side of the 90-270 line) to fall back on for more information.
I don't like the part where he talked shit after the DQ bragged how he DQd the high GM. no sportsmanship. I'll take a DQ no problem but I don't like being disrespected.

Did not see a 180. muzzle was pointed up in the air and maybe 45' angle but did not break the 180. Some times as an RO our eyes play tricks on us after a long day.
@@gunth0tsGoddamn, son... That's some mighty fine shooting. I knew y'all were better than most guntubers but didn't think y'all were THAT good. Congrats, man!
So i finally got to the 180 DQ. In no world is there any way that you went flat left to right and swept, the only way he called that is MAYBE, he saw the barrel of your pistol point that direction as you went for the reload and was so laser focused on that, he didn't notice it was empty and being reloaded, not being actively presented.
