Ryan Campbell I totally agree. Mick Mars was never given credit for his participation in the band. He was basically ignored by the other band members. What a shame. Mick added as much talent as anyone else in the band.
Agree Peppi. Nikki might have had the vision, but Mick and Tommy were/are the only ones with any real musical ability. They held the band together musically, esp live. I can't imagine them even bothering to try and play live if all 4 members only had the talent of Vince and Nikki. Yikes.
Exactly. People crap on Mick's guitar playing. He isn't Steve Vai, but he was perfect for Motley. Sure, Nikki Sixx wrote the tunes, but I'm sure he gave Mick song skeletons and a loose riff and Mick beefed them up, wrote the solos and most of the melody. Mick and Tommy are the 'music' behind Motley Crue. Really, when you listen to Motley, other than the vocals and drums, 99% of what you are hearing IS Mick Mars. Nikki just played root notes, mirroring whatever Mick was playing...essentially thickening up Mick's rhythm track.
gotta remember who brought him into the band.....no nikki, no crue....simple as that and quite literally, since well nikki was the one who started the band and picked out those guys tommy lee and mick marrs included. if it wasnt for nikki piecing that band together based on what he wanted the band to sound like crue wouldnt have been more than another glam band on sunset trying to make it and prob not named motley crue....not saying mick wouldnt have been in another band doing those same riffs but it would be motley crew. Nikki had a vision and he built his vision and mick's playing was apart of the sound he was looking for.
optic_metalhead It's just amazing isn't it. Almost too hard to believe isn't it? He died twice, addicted to heroin or cocaine depending on which interview you watch, and didn't even die permanently or go broke.
As a young woman, it was Tommy, now Nikki, but the talent? I'm gonna say it's Mick all the way. Tommy and Nikki have great songwriting skills, Nikki's ability to write and make us KNOW it, he's easily one of the most talented song writers, musicians. My fave bassist. Tommy is my fave drummer. Vince, he's a great showman and had the vocals. I don't want to be negative, but my voice isn't the same as 25 years ago either. Mick wasn't the sexiest, but his guitar playing and hands were wow!
Mick was criminally under rated in the whole 80s Rock scene. I got to see Motley Crue tour with Ozzy in Dallas in 1984. Yes I'm old. LoL But I have been lucky and bought tickets to 4 different tours and took my vacation time from work to go see what was supposed to be the Final Show from those guys. While working as a Stage Tech at my local arena venue , after being sold to Travis Scott I got to build the roller coaster that was Tommy's drum set up.

I am a female bassplayer from Amsterdam Holland, I played heavy metal and I have had my share of problems with all kind of drugs and alcohol. I met Motley Crue in the Hard Rock Cafe after a concert they gave in another city. Nikki and I have the same kind of life so we kept on talking anddrinking the rest of the night. He will be okay. He's living a better life now! Married, close to his kids. Nikki got OUT of Hollywierd, moving to Montana, I believe. He states that he is not using now, but you never know (people do lie) I hope he is! I have been using H & Valuims for many years now. I am living proof that you can use not die nor live on the street. I've saved plenty of cash & here I am. Never OD'd, died for a min. Never been in rehab. Married for 38 years & coming up to 66 yrs young. Have a loving family, owning our house. Ii never felt better physically, & mentally!! I also graduated from college! I NEVER hit bottom! Only downer is EVERYONE I came up with are dead!! Always from drugs. I just knew my limit!
Motley was one of the few bands that made an impression. I always loved Crue music, and I will until the end. Crue, thanks for a lot of good music, a lot of great shows and memories.
I sure do love all the Mick Mars comments on here. He is a huge part of their sound. I fully agree that he is ultra-underrated.God bless him. I'm going to make a little statue.

Some 28 years ago I was a female version of Nikki;a great mass of black hair, black and white jeans and long coat, and knee high boots with stiletto heels. I was a female bassplayer and I worked in a heavy metal club in Amsterdam where I live. One evening the Crue just walked in, and Nikki and I started talking and drinking Jack Daniels. He loved my look and the fact that I was a bassplayer too. We went down town after my shift, and we got so drunk,I did not even know how I got home. But I found a little note next to my bed;he brought me home. Nikki is a gentleman when he wants to. Last thing I remember was us walking on the street, holding eachother so we would not fall on our face. Great guy.
It's the same reason everything is a conspiracy and the Earth is flat again and every comment section is full of swearing and name calling. People think they know everything and can't be told anything so they hate, swear and name call. A bunch of losers trying to get positive attention on themselves by throwing negative attention on everyone else. I've seen people on here that knew every rock star personally and their whole lives too, people who have done everything and people that know everything, They're probably just so pathetic in their real lives they have nothing better to do. It's sad.
Motley Crue was never a critics' band, and they knew that. They may not have been the most musically talented band of their time but they were FUN. Rock and roll is about entertainment and stimulation, and they did that like few bands could.
Slippy Jones Because no one loves Nikki more than Nikki Sixx. Do you actually believe he was beat back to life with a baseball bat? Seriously? Nikki claims to be a photographer and he constantly tells the same stories. Why has he never shown fans his original diaries? Not the book... the actual diaries? If they were real he would post them daily, he would have pictures of them and videos all over because he never shuts up about it. He says he did heroin because his hero’s did, what a following poser! Then come to find out he didn’t even play his bass live on stage, he used protools. God damn it, I want a refund for all those shows I’ve seen.
Tammy Sigmon Mick is sick...he should have played in Motorhead looking normal denim and longhair like before he joined MC as his tone is cutting and unique for it's time.
Nikki has really helped a lot of people I think I love his music and him I wish only the best for him and his family may he and Motely Crue run to infinity and beyond
Mötley Crüe is only Mötley Crüe when all four members are there contributing. When Vince Neil left, was fired, or quit, depending on who you believe, the Crüe didn't work. As Nikki said, when the four of them get together, crazy shit happens! You can't explain it, you can't describe it, except it is absolutely incredible and insane all at once. I've seen them well over 15 times in concerts, from opening for Ozzy to headlining arenas, Amphitheaters, everywhere! They ALWAYS entertained you 150%, every single time!
so awesome of him to start a place of arts for kids to go to. this story is an eye opener to what drugs do to people. I'm very proud of him to overcome& find peace & help others. Right on man \m/
Absolutely f***king love The Crüe! I’m so glad Nikki survived! He’s amazing! It’s so hard to be a kid who loves these bands, cause you know any day they could stop the music or tours or even die and to know you may never see them play hits hard. #crüeheadforlife #loveyounikki

I'm crying... What a rude awakening for this fan. I remember, 1980-81. Me, outta high school, the #1 Band, for me, Motley Crue. My life was so untouched by drugs "YET", alcohol, weekends only...Crue carried me through Topless Dancing, drinking, meth, cocaine, and the worst life ever could I have led. So it turned out I was similar to them, no rockstar, by no means, but addicted oh yeah, kick start me !! So no heroin "yet", thanks to a person I love in recovery from heroin. Thanks, my Birthday Dec 22nd. I loved this Doc..oh wow!!! Thanks Nikki, and Crue for hitting bottom each will live his rockstar life. Bless each of you. I hope for you continued Rockin' blessed.

In the early 2000's I played in a band. It went from being the best time of my life to the biggest nightmare of my life. Me and other band mates liked to drink but one member loved pills, alcohol and acid. He went from being dedicated to our music when we wrote and practiced to practice can wait. He wanted to live tge rock star life style 24/7. I could be sitting at home writing and he would walk 2 miles to get to my apartment and wanted me to drive him to "some place". I did it once and ended up in a neighborhood that neither of us needed to be. He had me stop at a house while he went in. It felt like I sat in my car for an hour. He came out and motioned for me to come in but I refused. When he finally got back in the car he acted completely insane. He would roll his window down and hang halfway out and yell at people. I had to grab him by his belt loop to pull him in the car. He would turn the music up as loud as possible then he went from cd to cd. He would listen to one song then put another cd in. He went through about 10 cd's. At one point he got in my face and started screaming nonsense words. A couple times he grab the steering wheel and I thought we were going to wreck. I finally got him home and in his house. His girlfriend wanted to know where he had been because he evidently walked out when she left the room. I told her I wasn't sure where we went but he was all messed up when he came out of the house and got in my car. She actually got mad at me. I told her he had tried a couple other times to take him "some where" but I refused. I told her that he showed up at my place and had a fit to be taken to a neighborhood that I had no idea where it actually was because he had me take back roads and dirt roads. I finally told her she needed to deal with him because I was tired of it. I quit the band a couple weeks later.

No one knows the real world of Rock and Roll ! When you are there , you're there . If you don't know , you don't , Iv'e been there . Now Mr Sixx has lived that life of Rock and Roll and survived . Yes He was always the brains , the vision and the main songwriter !
Alchohol does that to ya. We had a guy who used to live next to us, who we thought was in his 70’s verging 80’s… turns out he was around 49 (same age as my dad at the time). That guy was a heavy drinker.
Man Motley went way beyond. They are truly blessed to still be breathing. I'm glad Nikki six turned his life around. I doubt we will see a band take it that far ever again. If you haven't read heroine diaries, it's a pretty good read. I was actually suprised.
The only way I can describe heroin withdrawl is, "there comes a point during withdrawl that the one and only thing you fear is that you may actually survive". I was brought back to life twice in the same day/night. I been clean for 2 years and havnt looked back. Nikki, stay strong. We clearly have reasons to stick around....Be Cool All.
Withdrawing from heroin, opioids has got to be the worst feeling ever to exist. I withdrew for a little over a month plus coming off cocaine my mind was mush. I was actually accusing people of poisoning me!
@NostradamusJr. I'm so glad you are here and survived. I'm currently praying for my oldest son to come off of alcohol. I worry so much about him. Thank you for sharing.
I’m an old lady now But back in the late ‘80s, Motley Crue was my favorite (hair) band ....alongside Metallica. Anyways, I had no idea about Nikki and heroine. No idea he “died.” No idea of his struggles. A very informative video. Saw the Crue in Florida. Brother and SIL took me to see them as a birthday gift. Was maybe 15-16. Our seats were the cheapest. SIL brought binoculars (she concerts!). As I watched thru binoculars, I saw nothing different from their MTV / VH1 videos. Just here to say Nikki Sixx was my very first crush So many of my years later: I’m thrilled with what he has accomplished! I always knew hw was beautiful inside and out By the songs he wrote
Some like the violence Some like submission Some use aggression Some use a bullet in the head to be brave Some like the evil Some need the power Some bleed in vain Some get a bullet in the head instead My mum bought me Theatre of Pain when i was about 6. I loved that album and played it all the time. In 2005 i finally got the chance to see the crue live in adelaide and i thank god i did. Anyone that says vince cant sing, well your right, but he bought so much power and attitude, his voice is obviously synonymous with motleys sound and i love it, his lyrics and sound are quite brutal. The power of the band is something to behold, ive never found that thrill of excitement and power in any other sound. The only thing that has ever come close was gangsta rap. Im now 36 and its 2018 and i still pump motley out of my very grown up SUV, i love it. Growing up in the country i could only dream what the city was like and i just always imagined it was like the sound of motley crue. At most stages of my life i wouldnt even say motley crue was my favourite band but they were always near the top and have endured for me. The sound, attitude, thrill and excitement they created keeps me coming back. Its dangerous, its fucking exciting, and its powerful as fuck. They dressed like girls u say? Oh then married heather locklear, pamela anderson, donna de erico etc, yeah good argument. It was a style and it was 1981, if you dont get it, bad luck.
I'm glad he made it through , his story will help save others through his trials , life and tribulations ect... Love The Guy. God Intended Nikki To Live & He Did.

The old motto of our group was "Live fast, die young n leave a good looking corpse." I am 66 so obviously I did NOT "die young", but my lifestyle is still the same on a much more lower key level, but it always goes back to the 🎶 music, that is what stairs our souls!!!!
LoL
But I have been lucky and bought tickets to 4 different tours and took my vacation time from work to go see what was supposed to be the Final Show from those guys.
While working as a Stage Tech at my local arena venue , after being sold to Travis Scott I got to build the roller coaster that was Tommy's drum set up.
Agreed mick mars is a beast!!!!!!!!!👍🏻👍🏻
He's my guitar hero, they never die! 🤘😎🎸

Yeah, right, Fake, scammer. 🙄
Hewill
he's a bag

Great guy.
To say im envious, is an understatement. All the guys from The Crue seem amazing. I'd love a chance to meet them

Why is there so much hate in these comments? I'd take Crue over MOST of the current rock that gets radio play in the US ANY DAY.
It's sad.
+Scottrick LaRoque You said it better then I could sir and did it with class. I completely agree with you!!
+Izzy Waan Seriously?? I know you have to be educated, so don't post vacuous comments.
Smartest thing Nikki ever did was finding Mick Mars!
Tammy Sigmon Mick is sick...he should have played in Motorhead looking normal denim and longhair like before he joined MC as his tone is cutting and unique for it's time.
Tammy Sigmon Mars, Vince and Tommy have the musical talent
Dam right Mick Mars fucking rocks

He helped the engineers with backing tracks because he cant play bass live,. Fact.
Nikki Six doesn't contribute anything to music, He is a talentless dick

Wow I knew it was bad but not that bad
Withdrawing from heroin, opioids has got to be the worst feeling ever to exist. I withdrew for a little over a month plus coming off cocaine my mind was mush. I was actually accusing people of poisoning me!

My mum bought me Theatre of Pain when i was about 6.

Nikki Sixx is my male side of my personality, so much like me it is scary n cool n he is my idol as well as alter ego!;; I am a 66 yr old woman, who came up in the 1960's as a young teen, in the 1970's as a teenager and my life from 13 yrs old till 17;yrs old was a carbon copy of Nikki's partying n music experiences, other than not actually dying twice n resurrecting, I was a hippie, turned, Glam rocker, turned heavy metal front person n songwriter, among some of my occupations, ballet dancer, musical theatre player, exotic dancer, burlesque dancer, motel manager twice- I lived the "live fast n die young" lifestyle just as Nikki did. My nickname is Nikki Styxx!!! I hope someday I can actually meet him because it would be like meeting the male image of myself!;!! You DO have everything you could ever hope for, Nikki, n you truly are my idol!!!! This was a great video, especially hearing Nikki narrate as well as watching the Crue perform all the early music which is still my favourites!!! The old motto of our group was "Live fast, die young n leave a good looking corpse." I am 66 so obviously I did NOT "die young", but my lifestyle is still the same on a much more lower key level, but it always goes back to the 🎶 music, that is what stairs our souls!!!! Attaboy, Nikki Sixx!!!!! P.S. I had a cat named Nikki Sixx. He was wild n crazy till he just disappeared!!!
You guys are a true inspiration. Always the best!
@Stella Y'all are the damn best. I'm honored to have the kind of support that you show me, thank you. How are you doing it is nice meeting you here btw
Sounds just like me, I swear I'm also a musician, and I'm still struggling every single day, and I gotta give it to you man, you are strong
Don’t compare yourself to Nikki
There's nothing like an incredible grandma!!!
❤❤❤ 🤘
Just read his book, totally amazing...love Nikki
@Nikki Sixx Doing great, how are you?
@Nikki Sixx Honestly there is no way this is Nikki Sixx I'm talking to
@Nikki Sixx because Nikki sex is way too famous to be talkin to just anybody
I think I enjoyed hearing the stories about Motley Crue more than their music honestly. I’m a drummer so I pretty much just listen to Tommy Lee play more than anything. But there’s no doubt that they are basically the hardest partying band of all time. 🤘 glad Nikki Sixx survived tho. I’m a recovering addict myself and know how much addiction can impact you and the things you do.
Motley Crue, Iron Maiden and Metallica were the music that I listened to in high school back in 89 to 91!
@Donna Y'all are the damn best. I'm honored to have the kind of support that you show me, thank you. How are you doing it is nice meeting you here btw
@@nikkisixx569I am so honored to get a reply. I still listen to your music. I’ve read your books. I think you rock! I’ve been sober for over 10 years! Life is good.

@@donnakayahern3179 ??
Music is so freeing...
I love each one of them, for different reasons 🤘
listening to his radio show, you dont think he's the kind of person who would do this.
Kamren Apelskog Or looking at him.
Heroine/opiates/cocaine changes everyone. They are no longer themselves. They are the drug. It can happen to ANYone of any background/moral fiber

This tells my story as well my trying to come back home once again.
Am I the only one who would love to see a motley crue play on broadway?
Craziest story! These men have 5 lives especially Nikki. Glad to see some good coming out of the craziness they lived!
