I’m from Ploiești and the girl at the end was spot on when she talked about the major road being closed off on Sundays. It’s actually the main boulevard and it’s pretty much the “mainest” road we have and it is closed during summer mainly for kids to play. We also host different festivals there.
Piftie is basically refrigerated concentrated (usually) pork broth. You put in it meat and sometimes veggies but you can also eat is simple. And is also boiled with garlic (pretty important).
@@borr.3349 it’s a word for word translation of the Romanian expression “a sta in curent” it’s like when there a draft and you’re sitting (or standing for that matter but nobody just stands there) in its way. It’s hard to explain. I’m not crazy
One response could be that brains are a bit fucky, and sometimes they make you feel things you don't really feel to protect you, ie: that your head hurts when the windows of the car are open, not because they are open, but because your brain has been fed that something bad is supposed to happen, so it simply makes up the feeling since it thinks "I must just not be feeling it so let me make it myself so they know something bad is happening" instead of "I'm not feeling anything, so nothing is happening". Something similar like this happened a good while ago in a school in the US actually where the students were told that some gas pipe broke and was leaking into the school by someone, and this spread to everyone but they still went to school. Since their brains thought now that there was gas building up in the school, it started simulating the feeling of inhaling bad gasses which resulted in many from the school going to the hospital with symptoms akin to gas inhalation but being found that they'd inhaled nothing, simply because the brain *thought* it was inhaling gas and when it saw it didn't feel anything it instead simulated the feeling of inhaling gas to make sure the person knew they "were inhaling gas" so they'd get out of there.
@@micro6555 Si eu sunt roman. First of all, i was also imagining an exaggerated response, for comedic purpose. Secondly, I've had similar interactions, the worst ones being in trains. "Curent" truly is the root of all evil for some people.
Love this I grew up in Romania and have been in the USA for 36 years ! Went back to visit only 2 times and I hope to take my kids there to visit , ! My husband loved it there and he got to understand me better after he visited and meet my grandpa and all my relatives and seen the way I grew up!
11:32 I was there. It's called "Ploiesti Street Food Festival" when you are supposed to eat a lot of fast food, drink beer, and attend 3 days of free concerts. On the road were stands and vans with all kinds of foods and on the sides of the road there was just grass, trees, chairs and tables. There are also some parks nearby and everything I've talked about is right next to the south train station. And to be honest it looked magical during the night with all the dimmed lights and colorful leds when the concerts ended and everyone just chilled wherever they could sit.
Piftie is like a terrine :). Its gellatine is resulted from boiling the leftover pork parts a long time which results in bone broth(very rich in collagen- which makes it gelly). You should try Tobă- its the meatier version
Yeah... People should try bread with apples, it's interesting, sometimes it feels like you eat simple biscuits with apple. I've seen my dad eating watermelon with bread, but I don't think I am gonna try that.
“Curent” air breeze. As a kid i’ve been told that it will make you body parts twist in un-natural directions if you stay in it for too long 😆 they literaly used to say this to kids. Thankfully not anymore...
"Curent", well ma dude, curent is a cold stream of air that is much colder than the rest of your body, if you experience it for long you can preety much get a cold, a headache or muscle cramps on your neck and shoulder muscles if you're an older person, yes is medically proven, yes i'm a romanian, i love how you've explained your opinions guys, i hope you've enjoyed your stay.
I agree to disagree...Hungarians and Germans do it better, they at least use mostly salt and condiments..not gelfix (inside reference, but tbh can’t remember the name of the actual one supposed for pickling)
@@SmileBulina it really depends on the region..I’m from the western sides of Romania and have some relatives in the northern regions; and I can definitely see a difference...I don’t know if it’s only for their preservatives choices (it’s not gelfix but a similar dr.oetker /knockoff one). I’m not saying there might be people in Ro that can do it awesomely, but I feel that percentage doesn’t exceed 10. However the choices’ creativity is another story.
I'm half Romanian and live in Turkey so I've tasted pickles in both countries. They don't have gogoşari murați in Turkey but besides gogoşari they pickle everything here (even eggs, all kinds of fruit and vegetables) and the pickles are amazing. They also drink pickle juice. My favorite is şalgam (pickled turnip or purple carrot juice)
When you get to live outside Romania, you will realise that most of the food that we believe is traditional Romanian was borrowed from the countries around
I only came here to see if anyone in the comments or in the video mentions hungary or hungarian things but I did not regreted watching this video and also I am hungarian and I have some friends who lives in Romania

"Piftie"is a culinary preparation from the group of cold snacks, obtained by long cooking of pieces of meat (pork, beef, turkey, rooster, goose, fish) with bone and cartilage, in combination with vegetables, greens and various spices.
The 2nd guy mentioned infertility twice, one for 'curent' and one for women sitting on the ground and istg i've never heard that in my life and I'm born & raised in Ro 😂 'Curent' is literally 'draft', and the sitting on the floor thing is bc floors are cold and for both cases the cold from either the airflow or the floor can affect one's body. Cause a cold, or aches or whatever. It mAy affect ovaries since they're placed in the lower part of the body, but it's not a given. Infertility's such a dramatic explanation and I'm wondering if he rlly remembers right or just heard it once in a certain situation and generalized it.
🤣 🤣 Ahahaha! So true! I really love the way you all explain these cultural aspects. It's just so relatable and hilarious 😂😂 👍 Great job! The "Piftie" also scares me. We also eat pork testicles called "fudulii" and pork skin "șorici". We also prepare a weird soup for Easter which is made with some lamb body parts and organs. Every Romanian family has that member who would love to eat that soup in which you'll see the head of that lamb, its eyes and tongue and its small intestines. This soup is usually served in a clay bowl called "strachină". Some Romanians not only eat "ciorbă de burtă" (stomach soup) but also "ciorbă de limbi" (cow tongues soup). Everyone who has lived in the countryside has once played with the "bășica porcului" (pork bladder) when he or she was a toddler thinking that was a ballon and has at least once "climbed" on a burnt pork which has been maliciously murdered "because that's the tradition". Still don't know how we are not traumatized after such events. I think we are witches or sth. Even our aunties and grandmothers know some plant mixes that are good for.... various things. Yep, probably we are witches 🧙♀️
"curent" (the air flow) is NOT a superstition but a fact (the same concept can be found in TCM). Some people are more sensitive than others, and can get headaches or neuralgias.. something like the 'Chinese water drop': one water drop won't hurt you, but for a prolonged period of time it turns into a torture.
"Curentul" aka air flow - this is the biggest enemy of the people in Balkans, not only in Romania :)
Pai da:)
Lol. I really didnt get it at first.
I come from Frisia near the sea, always beating winds but we dont have this problem.. 😄

Love this I grew up in Romania and have been in the USA for 36 years ! Went back to visit only 2 times and I hope to take my kids there to visit , ! My husband loved it there and he got to understand me better after he visited and meet my grandpa and all my relatives and seen the way I grew up!

Not all Romanians love piftie. I'm Romanian and the thought of eating piftie makes me want to throw up.
La piftie, partea de sorici și ureche e cea mai buna. Nu am auzit de creier in piftie.

I'm proud to be Romanian! It's such a beautiful country.
For a romanian i find it really interesting to see how foregin people see my country
Only real Romanians remember going to a restaurant and having a relative ask you dacă vrei suc, and then immediately going "Fanta/Cola/Tedi"

Description right to the point! Made me want to visit again!
Piftie is like a terrine :). Its gellatine is resulted from boiling the leftover pork parts a long time which results in bone broth(very rich in collagen- which makes it gelly). You should try Tobă- its the meatier version

In Romania, if you eat the edges of the bread, it is said that you will get along with your mother-in-law.
"Piftie" is also called "Racitura" in some parts of Romania. Basically "racitura" translates as "something cold".
Food wise, people here sometimes tend to east grapes and watermelons with bread.
And it's amazing.

Yeah... People should try bread with apples, it's interesting, sometimes it feels like you eat simple biscuits with apple. I've seen my dad eating watermelon with bread, but I don't think I am gonna try that.
Hot bread with watermelon is so good!

You can't find pickles like in Romania like nowhere!
I had some in germany and is not even near our pickles!
The Romanian pickles are without vinegar. This is the good part.

Sitting on the ground won't make you infertile, but getting an UTI from the cold of sitting on the ground might
"Piftie"is a culinary preparation from the group of cold snacks, obtained by long cooking of pieces of meat (pork, beef, turkey, rooster, goose, fish) with bone and cartilage, in combination with vegetables, greens and various spices.
this made me feel very good , I am Romanian and I'm happy to hear this things from strangers
Ai descris perfect un român abia aștept să văd mai multe videoclipuri ;)
The 2nd guy mentioned infertility twice, one for 'curent' and one for women sitting on the ground and istg i've never heard that in my life and I'm born & raised in Ro 😂
'Curent' is literally 'draft', and the sitting on the floor thing is bc floors are cold and for both cases the cold from either the airflow or the floor can affect one's body. Cause a cold, or aches or whatever. It mAy affect ovaries since they're placed in the lower part of the body, but it's not a given. Infertility's such a dramatic explanation and I'm wondering if he rlly remembers right or just heard it once in a certain situation and generalized it.
He was a bit vague and confused as if he wasn't sure what he heard about it.
🤣 🤣 Ahahaha! So true!
I really love the way you all explain these cultural aspects. It's just so relatable and hilarious 😂😂 👍
Great job!
