@@stedysteelsted9174 There is thing called threat meter. Tanks can generate more threat, while having lower dps. When tank looses agro it generally means someone has generated more threat than tank, and only people that generate more threat than tank with their dps need to chill out and stop dpsing for a moment.
Gotta have 100% dps uptime. Numbers numbers numbers. I want to be top dps in the raid me no stop casting. Me go face 😂😂

@@ParadigmRed and gets feared? do u even know how it works? u put the totem down pre-fear (which he does every time just fine) then u wait for the tick of the totem to be released from it. He might be doing mistakes in the rest of his gameplay but the fears all went fine.
That feeling when it takes you half the video to even figure out what spec he's playing because he's not doing anything except making sure to stand on cracks at the wrong time.

What people doesn't understand is that if the tank loses aggro, he get no rage to build threat with, and onyxia starts damaging the raid with cleave and breaths, which in turn makes healers build more threat, once the healers go past the tank, it's game over.
This is why the one who is dumb enough to take aggro has to move to tank position fast and just die, to pass the aggro back to the tank.

God he is bad at healing. He is bad at directing, and he’s AWFUL at callouts. You can solve whelps. Tell backline to group at tail, have tanks group at head. Have tanks with the lowest aggro rotate to deal with whelps. Then spread back out. Done in 20 seconds. But dude just wanted to:
“Aggro.”
*30 seconds of silence*
“Whelps, deal with whelps.”
*a minute of silence*
“Scatter.”
*panics for 5 minutes*
“Don’t step on cracks.”
*camps a crack as he says it*

The key to this fight is have the OTs spaced out on the threat meter so you can have one within a few spots of the top when she lands. Top threat throughout air phase gets fire balled periodically for a threat drop. In a raid you're used to where you know roughly how many fireballs to expect, OTs position themselves correctly on the threat meter during P1 to make the pickup even faster.
The good news is he kept his mana at 100% for the next attempt!

It baffles me how Kungen was in the best guild in the game once upon a time and now everytime I see a clip of him these days it's like he has never played the game before lol.
Kungen should stick to tanking, his healing is awful - he cancelled most heals, and no pre-casting.
Yeah it was horrible, like how about not to stand in the fire and finish at least one freaking heal. He was basically only healing himself after taking noob damage.

Keep canceling heals to avoid overhealing, then when everyone is at 30% or lower spam lesser healing wave on yourself. That's the way to victory!
He did nothing, absolutely nothing. No pre casting, no topping up, just very slow reactive healing that he cancelled because someone else did it first.
He cast one chain lightning, one heal and one chain heal. Everything else was on himself.
So bad.
I've never played WoW, but if there's one thing this series taught me, it's never tank for Kungen.

This is quite something isn't it ? Months investing in a character, hundreds of hours and gold spent leveling just to lose it all in a second and provide us barely a dozen minutes of entretainment. These people are the real heroes.

Due to the average warrior life expectancy, the surviving ones aren't usually decked out to generate proper threat. This makes raid bosses in classic quite tricky.
If that's true they need more druid tanks with manual crowd pummeler.
Its just that Ony is a speciial raid. If you are on the wrong position in threat during phase 2, you might have a really hard time catching up ever again, taunting doesnt work for the threat trick either as we know.
@@seedor9797 I've downed Ony with a 14 person raid in 2 (BWL phase) when Classic first came out. It's not that hard to stop dps so the tank can pick up aggro. People want to ignore mechanics because "it's so easy". Well, not if you ignore the mechanics it's not.
the fireball in phase 2 wipes aggro. theoretically its possible to get very unlucky and have all the tanks targetted in phase 2. It's why you need big ranged dps in phase 2.

I've seen 50yr old casual dads raidlead a gdkp better than what Kungen just did here lmfao. Only thing said throughout this entire fight is "alright pump her boys". Literally 30+ whelps in the background smacking casters and healers and he's telling the raid to pump the boss lmfao. Actually amazing how he did no macro management of what people should be doing when things were going wrong.

@@videk9269 We all watched the same video. The only thing he said was "pump the boss", "use a fire protection potion" and "we need to kill these whelps". If you think thats competent raidleading then you're probably one of the mages that was sitting at 95% mana during phase 3 of the fight while half the raid was dead.

In all seriousness, I’m legit 2 minutes into the video and I have not seen this guy heal one person one time. He’s only laid totems, auto hit with full mana and casted chain lighting on whelps. Is this normal for a player in a raid? I’ve never ever seen someone do so little in a raid.
The Fireball of Onyxia wipes aggro. The trick is for second tanks to be at the right spot and have them spread out throughout the threat meter. It is actually hard if you have too much or unpredictable DPS in phase 2 to guess where you have to be as a tank.
That's ideal but it's up to the RL to notice that all tanks got hit by fireball and had their threat wiped and it's up to dps to adjust to that and try to get their threat wiped as well. They behave as if everything is fine but the RL should be talking about this instead of trying to micromanage the tanks.
In Classic we had one tank save all the rage and dump it during the 2-3 phase transition. Inevitably all the tanks get hit with the fireball, but so do most if not all the dps as well. The idea of dumping a full ragebar should get the tank the highest threat upon landing, or very close to the top if a couple dps didnt get hit with fireballs.
@@greenfroggood2392I'm not that familiar with the mechs of this raid. Why not just let everyone get hit with fireball by stacking the entire raid, then when the boss lands, let tanks attack by themselves for a bit to regain aggro?
@@ZadamanimThat is sometimes a strat but that means only ranged and heals will have threat but it will be somewhat low. Ideal is OT (phase 3 tank) to have a medium-medium low amount of threat going into p2 so that hopefully he is near top going into p3 as the fireball wipes those above

How someone, especially a healer hasn't targets target on in a raid evades me.
Usually when you're doing Ony in Classic players are told: when you get thrown deep into the whelps just die there, don't run out setting free flocks of them. Of course that doesn't work in HC, everybody will run out. Then there is the typical Ony problem: Idiots not letting the tank get aggro. Of course the advice in classic is: with aggro run to the tank (easier said than done) and die. I've often seen Ony killed with the majority of the raid dead. I've also seen enough Ony wipes with well equipped players that didn't know what they're doing.
As someone who MT'd in classic on a warrior...yikes. However really and truly their isn't anything they can do if the dps are blowing up the boss. Dps should have stopped for a couple of seconds when she came down for the tank to get back aggro. Kungen's terrible healing excluded. Also lol with that tank at the end using a sheild.

I feel like the tanks didn't realize they could start rebuilding their threat in the air phase lol. You should build up rage either as she's transitioning or on the whelps because she's going to fireball you and reset your threat. And then you should be working on building it back up while not reaching the top and trying to time it with the boss landing. 1:44 you can just see Cabo in front of Kungen just chilling watching the boss. You need to be popping a rage pot and already be working on threat again when the boss is about to land soon. I don't know where the other 2 tanks are either but it doesn't seem like there's many people even under her when she's flying.

The off tanks did not even have close to the right amount of threat and never got fireballed. They should have been 5-6th on threat with 100 rage as she comes down. Usually as alliance this is easy because you can bop agro off until a tank gets it.
They should have had a Fury/Prot tank stay somewhere around 5th-10th on threat in phase one so they don't get their threat wiped by a fireball, then pool rage in phase 2 and pop reck and death wish while she's landing. As a Tauren, I could even jump and hit her while she was flying during phase 2 because of the Tauren reach/hitbox for a little extra threat. It's an easy pickup if you understand how the fight works.
that would involve knowing how the boss fight works. Which clearly was not the case for these guys.
The patch that added hard-core actually corrected the Tauren melee range feelsbad tbh
Easiest way to do Ony is just to STOP DOTS *BEFORE* she lands, and STOP DPS *WHEN* she lands. Let tanks establish threat again, just like at start of phase one. And THEN finish her off. Don't have to get tricky with it. A kill is a kill.
fury tanks get agro when it lands and keep it glued on you. i did it like that. agro is so big nothing can steal it of you. unless you die. prots and bears can handle the adds
@@skurkgbg2079 To be frank, its one of the more challenging tanking encounters of classic, in my opinion. Hard to predict, how long she will be actually flying and how many fireballs she will get out. 10th to 5th in threat isnt abad measure but if the damage is slow, all tanks might get threatwiped.

This actually made me think of certain documentaries I've seen about aircraft disasters.. Just the slow but steady increase in confusion and problems developing until the end.

Nearly all serious threats have safety systems meant to prevent accidents. That's why every such accident looks like is a perfectly executed septuple combo of wrongness.

Since her fireballs wipe out threat, if range blast her in air phase, Is it possible she starts phase three before the ranged DPS get their threat wiped because she doesn’t have enough time to fireball all of them?
Thus when she lands, the tank has to climb over so many ranged to re-establish top threat?
In SC, it wouldn’t matter because the ranged DPS that still have threat just run to tank position and either get healed or die. No big deal.
You either space out tanks who know exactly what they are doing on the meter to let one of em catch her asap on landing (in high damage raids/speedruns), or you slow dps down and let her fireball the whole raid, then you will have some threat on healers and dotters, which could cost a few lifes on landing aswell. Depends on your raidgroup, of course, I have no HC experience tanking her and never tanked in a horde raid either, so I might miss some tech.
I’ve never tanked in, well, ever really. Would battle shout spam be a way for tanks to generate threat in phase two?
If not, seems like a great time to let a Paladin generate healing threat (for alliance).
Seems like in HC the air phase needs to be either super duper short, and ranges should do little to no damage at all in phase one, or it needs to be drawn out for a while.
As a tank you gotta blame them before they blame you.

As a healer main for years, this was painful to watch. Why is he canceling all the damn heals? Why is he even looking at the boss while standing on the cracks? Damn it Kungen, get it together.

Petri should have a cooldown that won't let you use 2 in a row, that's bs
Petri should cancel itself if you quit the group and initiate "you are not in this instance group" countdown. And new petri also shouldn't be usable while you have that countdown up.
Look at the three mages at mid game to end. Stayed spamming frostbolts to keep up dps but did zero aoe. They caused the wipe in my opinion. Onexya doesn't need to be burned down quick. Just needs people paying attention to there surroundings and focusing on welps and dodging lava. I was in charge of killing whelps as a fury warrior. Was no way I could kill them all when it got bad. Mages are the key to that.

I remember, back in the day, whelps happen, i was one of the mages tasked with bombing them if we had incoming.
Exactly this. We always had two groups of mages and offtanks ready to deal with whelps on either side. Normally the mages would rotate frost novas and AOE down the whelps before they got anywhere close to the rest of the raid. Because we had mages assigned to cover both sides it didn't matter even if whelps did come from both caves.
We certainly weren't any kind of high end raiding guild, but we always made sure everyone knew what they were doing before we pulled the boss.
@@RavienGaming Yes. You can get incredibly lucky, but in a usual run, there will be whelps. You cannot prevent someone getting feared into the whelps, it can happen.
That hunter, Sheeshh, was the only one in the entire raid group with any sense.
Most people have not a fucking single idea of how onyxia threat mechanic works.
And in this raid it’s actually every single one of them
Tanks clumping up together, all of them getting threat reset by fireballs, DPS pumping immediately when she lands, tanks not using zerker rage, deathwish or rage pots, Kungen standing on a crack on every single eruption, no communication at all, no tank saying their threat is reset, no coordination of who takes whelps, most dps lagging in the brain being unable to run to tank pos when they inevitably get aggro after pumping when nothing is under control, not letting the (threat reset tank hehe) build threat from nothing (imagine a rage pot, just imagine).
This is what you get when no one has done Ony before or even took the time to watch a 30 second explainer of the fight. It's embarrassing considering how easy and simple this fight is.
i'd put money on it they all played through classic but these issues were never relevant as they simply got carried by world buffs and gdkps through all the content
@@agagqbq Not that many people did Ony with wbuffs, in my guild we split our raids in half and did 20 man runs with nothing required. It's just wasted on Ony. Takes 10 minutes to clear the thing with dogshit gear and no buffs.
Sure there were probably some GDKP lords who only did GDKPs who didn't really know anything other than to pump, but I'd say those types probably still play Wotlk and do GDKPs, not hardcore.
If I had to guess on the type of player in that raid just from the decision making and movement, it's probably a lot of stressed out gamer dads.
I don't think I saw their tanks stance dance to zerker rage once to immune the fear (bellowing roar). You get like 1.5 seconds notice so you can have a macro to do that and immune it during P3 to keep her stable and stuck on you (instead of cleaving or breathing on the raid). It's a 1min CD so you can do it every other bellowing roar. Granted, alliance has this a lot easier since you can zerk-rage, fear ward, zerkrage, fear ward, etc etc to get 100% threat uptime on the boss. Or horde can put down tremor totem(?) to cover every second fear? I don't think it's as good though because the duration isn't as long.

They don't have speed limiters on their dps.
You can have all the latest safety gadgets / lcd panels / talking car / etc. ... and if you let a person drive 30mph over the speed limit they will.

They went "whelp" instead of "welp"
Back when my guild did it in vanilla we always DPSed very very slowly. Mages and warlocks wanded in phase 1 and mostly used dots in phase 2. Made for a long but very safe fight.
Also had whelp groups assigned to cover each side with an offtank and mages who would rotate frost novas. Any whelps came out those groups would handle them.
People forget that vanilla raids weren't cakewalks .They had simple boss mechanics, sure, but the game as a whole was harder for players with things like threat and mana management, patrols, respawns, etc.

Onyxia threat in classic can be rough. You have to literally not do any damage until the tanks grab threat. Also, that petri call seemed like the worst part. Like 25 people still alive and Ony at like 5%?
its not worth trying to live. its hardcore not normal classic. with the amount of whelps out they could have easily been full wiped even in the last 5% imo
Very few people died to whelps. If you watch the vid like maybe 2 people, and when they called the petri,whelps were not the problem at all. The boss got turned AGAIN and the tail swipe and cleave mechanics hit the whole raid and everyone went half hp. They panicked and called petri. Literally no one died in between him calling for control on whelps and the petri call
They probably lost more people from everyone dropping group and trying to scatter.

Reminder that Kungen is such a legendary player that he has a WoW TCG Card named after him, now he plays like a grandma.
Regardless of whether or not he called for an all-out nuke on the boss, Rule #1 of raiding, which so many people these days seem oblivious to, is that you stop DPS completely when the tanks lose aggro. Stop casting, turn off attack, and wait until the tanks get the boss under control. If you DO get aggro, run TO the tank spot and keep the boss in position. That's basic and should be known by anyone who steps into a raid. If you keep attacking while the tanks DONT have aggro, you get disasters like this.
Watch how many people (non tanks) are still nuking and DPSing the boss, spinning her around and making her go hog wild around the room. That's why it took so long for a tank to get aggro back. That's why people got knocked into the whelps. That's why it became a blood bath.
that MT needs to learn how to stance dance, the guy got feared every single time, which is why he couldnt get aggro back when onyxia landed
Thank you. Someone that actually noticed that. Everyone keeps talking about threat reset from her fireball and how the DPS needs to DPS very, very slowly, but no one has been mentioning the tank getting steam rolled by fear and how he could hold threat better if he actually knew how to tank this fucking dragon.
@@AmyLovesYouI was an MT for years, starting from release up until Cata dropped. the first thing I look at is the MT, he is the Quarterback of the raid. but just to be fair to him, even if he was more experienced and could stance dance Onyxia, the raid did not give him a chance to get control of her when she landed and started DPSing right away. you always give your tank a few seconds to stabilize Onyxia after she lands and then open up once he has her under control and in position. if the raid had done that, it would have been painfully clear that the tank was dropping the ball

off tank has to be around 6th~ on thread meter when she goes up, depending on how many fire balls she shoots - so that he can get the agro almost instantly when she lands.
Onyxia clears peoples agro from the top in phase 2... MT first, then the pumpers and healers.

here's what i don't get: Onyxia has been a boss since the classic days and these guys have been playing FOR YEARS. How do they not know the mechanics of a 20-year old boss?
The problem is: dps meters and sweaty parsers.
You can clearly see some people keep attacking her even after he called out a dps stop for the tanks to catch up on aggro
The raid may be 20 year old but the average player IQ isn't that high.
TBH, most the people in that raid probably never fought Onyxia before, unless they were by default OP in a later expansion.

Horde is not made for hardcore lol. If they were alliance they'd just bop all the players with agro and let tank get threat. The other option is multiple (4-5) tanks incase of a bad fireballs. You have all tanks around 4th - 8th threat depending on how fast you can dps and then as soon as she lands tank will have agro. Fireball wipes agro if you were not aware.

35 year olds are still able to play much better than this, it's not an age problem.
I lost three chars. around lvl 30. Last one was to a d/c. That was enough for me, not sure how someone gets a gear 60 loses it and keeps playing.
Streamers. Hardcore is a gold mine for them. People enjoy watching the stream for the chance to see it happen live.
I've been watching a guy doing naked hardcore challenge (weapon shield & bags only), that guy would be a better raid leader than this, very high situational awareness to survive in duskwood naked with a sword & shield. He started the part I was watching saying he had got whispers to watch out for stitches, caught sight of stitches on the road and went to a safe spot. Looks like 90% of the people in the raid don't understand that they be dead if they play stupid.
Well, tbh Kungen said, that tanks need to pop reck and generate aggro. So when the rest of the raid keeps his feets for a few seconds eveything should be fine. But neither did the tanks pull aggro nor did anybody stop pumping to let the tanks catch up. Its kinda everybodys fault here. They also could have waited before grounding here until more people are reset by the fireball, like it was in Classic. And not to mention, WHEN 2 tanks finally got up in Threat, still people just overnuked and pulled aggro.
The problem is they didn't stall out phase 2. Onyxia's fireballs reduces the targets threat to 0, so if tanks get hit by one, their threat goes to nothing and then if you burn too fast and push to phase 3, all the dps that did not get hit by a fireball will have all of their threat carry over into phase 3. If this happens, it's impossible for tanks to get aggro back over those dps unless they're mages, hunters and paladins that can feign, bubble and ice block.

@@Bollibompa chain heal can heal 3 ppl and half the raid was on 50% most of the fight. He also barely even healed the “tanks” he was assigned?
He also never cast natures swiftness and there was plenty of situations he could have saved a life/lives
Pretty sure DPS went ham when Onyxia landed. His call sounded like doing so. But that's not what you do and likely why the tanks had no control.
DPS made it almost impossible for any tank to pick her up.
