East Somerset Steam Gala - 18th March 2023

Return visit to the East Somerset Railway on Saturday 18th March 2023.
This gala was moved forward from last year after it was cancelled mainly because of the uncertainty regarding heritage railway coal shortages due to ongoing happenings in europe. But, it has returned with something different, and that is the recently completed large prairie 4110 which last steamed 58 years ago and now with the East Somerset for the next three years before it moves to it's new home at the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway in 2025/26.
Three years restoration by the team at the ESR locomotive works department has given 4110 a new lease of life, pulling the first passenger train of the weekend, and double-heading with visiting small prairie 4555 from the Dartmouth Steam Railway to recreate a special train along with the home fleet Ivatt Class 2 mogul 46447.
Lady Nan, also giving driver for a tenner experiences at the depot, was something not to be missed, I did have ago at this myself, which will be in a seperate video shortly. :)

hi there,that 4110 loco, i remember when we had it at southall railway centre in the early 80s when it was a wreck,must of cost thousands to get it back on track.

Great looking engine. 46447 looks like a little TLC wouldn't hurt. Or maybe it was going for the BR look??

it's amazing that steam trains that are still well-maintained can live, unfortunately, in Indonesia, they're already in museums, right?
