Really weird they don't have the voice recordings done earlier, I would have thought that'd be a great help for the animators to reference when working.
Animations probably havent been done yet either. No way they’ve done the cgi and not the voice acting.
Usually animation is the thing that's finished last with movies. It wouldn't be too surprising if they had saved all the facial animations and stuff like that for after they had actors to work with also.

Honestly I think this could actually confirm that Shadow will not have as many lines as some thought. Shadow is a character who could be shown a lot with his body language or the animations they give him. And he's less talkative than Sonic, so this could be a tip of the cap to that idea. Not to say he won't speak but he might not have like a lot of lines in the film compared to Sonic. As for the actor I really like both your picks. Honestly I suck with Live Action voice casting outside of like non traditional VAs. And since I do agree with you that Shadow has to be a big actor like with Knuckles I really have no full idea. I just hope he sounds good. Shadow hasn't really had a good actor since Jason and even then he had to kinda grow in the role (even if I love him as the cheesy take of Shadow he did in X Season 2). But if it's a big actor they could give him the weight I felt David captured in SA2 and Heroes.
But with the fans or the games themselves it has its own lines and apart from the fact that it will have certain references from the Sonic franchise itself, I feel that it will put a reference like the one made by Sonic 2 Where Sonic talks and believes himself to be Batman, Sega could make a reference like Dragon Ball since Sonic and Shadow look like Goku and Vegeta, it's a good oppo idea.
@@aldoulises563 That kinda would reinforce the idea that Shadow is a Vegeta clone, which he's not, and in recent times there's been pushback to revert him to how he behaved in SA2, Heroes and 06, instead of, y'know.
Plot Twist: Ben is going to voiced Shadow too
Huh? Actually...okay I don't think that would work since Ben is not as big of an actor. Heck I am still shocked for Sonic they choose a decently professional voice over actor, over like a more famous name. But honestly this would be a funny thing since it's not the first time an actor would play sonic and shadow. Though given how Jason had to grow into both to be a good voice for both it might be a bit hard to expect Ben to get it great on the first movie with him.

@@digitaltailsmon4096 It's because they had Jim Carrey. I think Paramount wanted Jim Carrey to be their Eggman so that they could focus on a voice actor that would fit the role of Movie Sonic really well.
I think that Paramount hasn't cast anyone in as Shadow yet because from him being so iconic and that he has such a big fanbase, a riot in social media might possibly happen if they don't choose an actor who would fit that Ultimate Life Form hedgehog character the best and be accepted in as the right choice by enough of the public people who will be watching the Sonic 3 movie when it comes out. (especially the fans.) It can obviously be difficult to do it so that could be the reason why no one has been officially confirmed for that role yet. I still hope that Paramount would choose either David Humphrey or Jason Griffith, because they are both experienced with that role which makes neither of those people a bad choice.
Imagine if Jason Griffith IS going to be Shadow? He was recording something...but highly doubt it.
I’m no expert on this stuff, but I feel like it’s not that surprising that Ben has only just started recording voice lines for Sonic 3, and my guess or reasoning as to why would be that they wanted to be mostly done with the filming of the human actors to show to the VA’s (before doing the animation) to better help them get into their scenes so their performances feel more organic, and they’ll do the animation, particularly of the lip movements, once the voice over recordings are finished, which in comparison to most other things with the project, voice over recording wouldn’t take as long, again, not an expert, that’s just my guess
as for Shadow not being cast, I see two possibilities, 1 they already know who they’re gonna call in, they’re just keeping it very secret and not letting anything slip out, or 2, they’re probably gonna work on casting him in the very near future, especially with the other voice actors getting started now, plus he may not have as much dialogue because Shadow’s never been the type to have large amounts of dialogue

So excited for this movie.
at first it did worry me that they were doing a good chunk of the recordings and voice acting only just now but it's not too deep into 2024, and they may have already had more of the filming done prior than we know of. Plus compare this to the newley announced Jurassic World movie which is only now finding a director and it releasing its movie in July 25th 2025! Which means there's not a lot of time, so I think this movie isn't cutting too close, December is pretty far and this year only justed started.

The more I hear about the movie (and some leaks we won't discuss) the more I think... is Shadow going to somehow save Maria in this movie? It IS a Paramount kids movie after all. Somehow changing history and saving her seems more likely than having a kid die.

What if Will Arnett plays as Shadow?
It's one thing for us to see Ben Schwartz start his voicework for Sonic, or 'any' of the previous "already revealed" character voice actors like for Tails & Knuckles, but it's entirely different for an announcement that should be used to generate a LOT OF HYPE for the 3rd Movie. And when it comes to hype, TIMING is everything. For whatever reason, Paramount seems to think it's just not the right time to reveal Shadow's voice actor yet (Maybe The Knuckles Show at the end hints at Shadow's existence in some way?).
Let's not forget the consequences of the strikes, because of them, we have to wait until April for The Knuckles Show. The show was supposed to come out 'last' year, but of course, 'all' Hollywood production has been all over the place because of said strikes.
I personally don't see the Shadow voice actor reveal until at least some time 'after' The Knuckles Show. Shadow's my favorite character, but the show & Knuckles should have their time to shine & 'breathe' before Shadow, quite literally, overshadows them (Nor should the reveal of Shadow's voice actor be competing for the attention over a show of another prominent character in the same series that has a delayed release date.). Maybe not in the same month, but close to it.
Keanu being shadow is very likely because they could do a lot of puns because of how much sonic liked Keanu in the first movie and knowing paramount they want some jokes because it's a kid movie

i'm excited about the film and seeing who is chose to voice shadow (as well who they get to play professor robotnik) , but i have had a thought for a while about what will happen to maria robotnik in the film, cause in the game she was shot by a g.u.n. soilder, but in the films it was said in sonic 2 that g.u.n. started beccause of what happened at the end of the first film.

I just have a really strong feeling about this: Keanu Reeves will not be cast for Shadow. I could be wrong and could be biased as I don't really want Keanu to voice him. Just seems to obvious of a casting. I just really the voice actor to fit for Shadow more than anything else.
I find it very hard to believe that Shadow i.e. possibly the most important role in this film, has not yet been cast at this stage, especially whilst everyone else has been announced and is filming and recording etc.
Lest we forget the substantial history Hollywood insiders have of lying and denying things so that they can keep them under wraps and not spoil the surprise and, well, because they are obliged to by their contracts.
I have to say, I had pretty much assumed he had been cast when they set a filming date in June last year (before the actors’ strike obvs), given it’s often routine for casts to do communal read-throughs of scripts before they start filming/recording them. But I guess we’ll see either way…
I mean, didn't a similar thing happen with Spider-Man: No Way Home? It got leaked of the 3 Spider-Men, but the actors denied it until it became "official" (Which is why even interviews with people involved should be taken with a grain of salt because they could still lie.).
Sure, maybe Paramount didn't get the actor they wanted & had to search for someone else, but I have a strong feeling they're just waiting for the right time to reveal Shadow's voice actor. We haven't even seen The Knuckles Show, yet, maybe Paramount thinks it should happen at least after that show first (I also think it should happen after The Knuckles Show. Let Knuckles & Shadow have their own time to create hype without cannibalizing the other.).

It's actually a really good sign that they didn't try and do too much during the writers strike and waited to do a lot of the work. The last time we had studios try and push movies through during a strike we got stuff like X-Men Origins with that awful Deadpool.

Well with a movie where the main characters are CGI it’s a big possibility that they’ve already got those scenes done and just need to do the scenes with the CGI characters and the actors interacting with the scenes that just focus on the actors. hell look at Deadpool 3 for an example that film finished filming mid to late January I think and that film is releasing in July I know it’s a completely different type of film compared to a film filled with CGI characters but they still got 9&1/2 months or so to get the film done which is still a bit to go
