- Sonic Frontiers launched in 2022 to solid reviews on PlayStation 4 and PC. Now, a new rumor is going around that Sonic Team is hard at work on a sequel to the open-world, 3D platformer. The original rumor was posted by DanielRPK on Twitter and Patreon. Generally, they're seen as a relatively reliable source, though their track record is far from perfect. However, after fans noticed the original rumor, they took to Twitter to ask another leaker about the validity. Thankfully for fans of Sonic Frontiers, the original post has been confirmed by Midori on Twitter, further adding to the credibility of this leak. Adventure formula, but if they can add more to Frontiers style, let them. Frontiers felt kinda empty and repetitive so i'd be interested to see what they do different this time.

@@plasmapj1183 I'll be honest. I'd prefer difficulty balance. It was the one issue with the first game that I and a majority of people had. The difficulty spike between the main game and the DLC was in a word inaccessible. But *if they can get the difficulty balance right, and relegate the insanely hard stuff to completely optional areas that have no bearing on the story whatsoever* and exist strictly for achievements and nothing else (like Mario does), then I think they could put themselves in a position where they could even start competing with Mario again.

For Sonic Frontiers 2 i really REALLY hope we can have more civilization like a big city , more NPCs and side-quests. Making the world of Sonic feeling alive. Having the ability to change your character at will like some Sonic Frontiers mods but putting some character-only restrictions so the game's story isn't impacted , it doesn't feel forced like in the adventure. I also want some secrets , the indoor ruins of Ares island was a half-baked good idea. They could have put a hidden-boss there , some bonus or anything.
Kishimoto and Iizuka had always said that the next game would be open zone. Nothing about this is surprising. I think this will release in 2026 (which is more likely), but it might release at the very end of 2025.

Dude they need to use the sonic frontiers like elements to make an adventure open world with a city setting being able to interact with side characters from different games
Grind rails could have natural looking placement. Eggman could randomly attack and you would have to protect citizens. Maybe they could have an unlockable super sonic for post-game content where eggman sends harder variations of the boss enemies at you and extreme difficulty would be playable shadow

@@SamCo- That’s actually a good idea. With the whole “saving citizens side-quest” thing, sounds a lot like Sonic X meets Spider-Man PS4. Honestly, I’d be more on board with that since it was also have that “Sonic Unleashed” vide to it. Major props to you, SamCo
@SorenAlba54 that spider man comment is pretty accurate actually. Because after saying shadow would be hard mode I had the idea of shadow being switchable whenever you want. And when you play as sonic he could show up and help you and vice versa . Also that could make implementing multiplayer easier.
With Sonic Dream Team proving the concept. I would love to see more AA Sonic games.
After all it doesn't have to be either or we can have both Frontiers 2 and Adventure 3.
Hell go off the deep end and make Shadow The Hedgehog 2 as a Mario + Rabbids style game.

Sega said that their mega game is going to release in March 2026 so I think that they have to have a Sonic game for that timeline. We have Sonic X Shadow Generations this year, I am sure another game in 2025, and then this game in 2026. My number one request is that Silver The Hedgehog needs to be playable in this game.

06 had glitches and long loading times but for its time it was a great game and had a great story plus it was the first time sonic died and Elise brought him back yeah he almost died on frontiers from the corruption but still I didn’t play secret rings but I did play black knight
@@Princeofunderworld32 sure 06 and secret rings had great stories but the gameplay is awful I just want sega to focus on the here and now with Sonic x Shadow Generations so they can make a full fleshed out story but have amazing gameplay then once they are done with that they can focus on making frontiers 2
That’s not how game development works, there are multiple teams working on things, they don’t stop dead in their tracks to work on 1 game

Sonic Boom was also a name for a fan game, yet that didn't stop Sega from making the Boom series lol
If they add on to what they have in frontiers now, I hope they add different types of camera if not different running animations. So add a unleashed camera where it takes a while for the camera to zoom back onto sonic after blasting off with the boost, or add a an adventure camera where it's more just on a point and doesn't turn at all unless you go into first person.

Sonic Speed Simulator is actually a cool proof of concept for open zone in more traditional Sonic areas, it would definitely be amazing

I think there might be another console sonic game coming this year they just didn't show anything they show the remaster to make FANS think that were not getting a new game that sounds like something Sega would do I think this would be mainline and I think the gameplay would be similar to frontiers I think it should be one big map like Zelda with a city or mountains or a jungle canyon as for the name and story I don't know I HOPE this happens so please tell me what you think!!!!!!!!!
Sonic Frontiers 2 for late 2025 would be amazing. The question is will it be released on Nintendo Switch 2 or just the regular switch? Maybe even both.
I’m thinking it will release early 2027-2028. They definitely need more than 2 years to work on this so it can be as good as possible imo.

Good idea from Sega, they made a lot of money from how may copies of Frontiers were sold and lots of people revealed that they believe that it's a step in the right direction. They should make sure that Frontiers 2 won't have so many crazy pop-ins like the first one does, and not only make Shadow be a playable character in it, but please may they also make Silver the hedgehog be playable in it too!!!!!! That cute telepathic hedgehog has been done dirty for a lot of years by not being playable in a mainline console game ever since the failure of Sonic 06! Please may he finally get more focus by being a playable character again who plays a big role in mainline Sonic games especially this upcoming one!
Ehh… I’m happy that this game is happening because I’m a crazy fan, and believe me, I want Sonic games to do well. I just didn’t love Frontiers. I mean I can’t say that I hate it because I haven’t even played much of it, but I have played it for hours on end, and I just don’t love it. I don’t really care through, I just want the games to do well. I have enough things in the franchise that I like right now that it doesn’t matter if I don’t love a new game .

I really hope the development time isn’t strict. There was so much scrapped content from Frontiers that it’s actually sad. Especially noting that the game was originally supposed to release in 2021 (and they started development in 2019!)

Well, we are getting Sonic x Shadow Generations this year in autumn. But we can wait to see Sonic Frontier 2 probably next year on 2025, and I hope Shadow will be playable.
I still want to know which 2 ending is the real cannon one. We are getting a sequel but we don’t even know what the real ending is. No one even acknowledged that tho.
You know I want shadow to be a main character not because he's cool but I liked what they did with knuckles, tails and Amy's arcs. I kinda hope they do it again but with shadow getting some growth or inspiration to do something new

Yet more proof Sonic is becoming one of if not the most significant character or, really anything at all, in the world. I do have an understanding that pretty much everyone will become highly interested in Sonic within the next 5 years and it will be common to hear about Sonic in the news on a daily basis.

I didn’t like Frontiers much due to the lack of villains, characters and environmental variety on the islands. Cyberspace missions were too short as well. It’s a shame since there was so much potential for an open world sonic game. The only thing Frontiers really excelled at imo was the gameplay especially the combat. I’d only appreciate a Frontiers 2 if they make it more like the adventure games in terms of being jam packed with variety instead of lacking variety but being stretched out into a much longer but more bland experience like Frontiers was.

Not entirely related. But I think my thing for frontiers is lack of replay ability. I’m sure some people would love to replay it. But after doing it a few times. It just lacks something for me, like the desire to play unleashed or generations. I’m just like. Meh. I like frontiers. But I don’t wanna play it again. That could change tho lol

I honestly don't believe this is happening, but if it is, here are some things I wish for what could happen in it, keep the Same formula, with:
-Better Character Design/evolving personalities
-Shadow playable/DLC
-A New Character or return of Classics
-Sonic's True Speed
-New Form or the return of Super Sonic Cyber evolved (or an opportunity to Make Hyper Sonic canon)

Honestly, I loved Frontiers in almost every regard except for the difficulty balancing with the DLC. If they can fix that in a sequel, then I think they could come up with something that is even better than Frontiers.
