Im glad you covered this. Super Sonic 2 isnt "more Super Sonic", it's two separate powers unified into one form. Almost like Dragon Balls God Ki. God Ki is like the Cyber energy, while Super Saiyan is Super Sonic.
Like Super Sayain Blue, Combining the god-like Super Sayain God with the power of Super Sayain. With Super Sonic being SSG and the Cyber corruption being SSj. The Cyber Corruption Super Sonic could be like Broly's SSjFP, letting the full power run free and wild in an uncontrolled and Destructive manner.
I don't think that's really what people have a problem with. It's not that people don't understand it, it's that people really wanted these things to be part of the consistent canon from now on.
I seriously need to see something like this. Officially, I mean. That would be so sick, and would give acknowledgement to a power source that has quite the untapped potential.
The developers did actually say he was supposed to get some kind of power for collecting all the time stones originally. Though the form was visually going to just be him covered in invincibility sparkles with speed shoes.
It's crazy how long super sonic has maintained its status as sonic's strongest form. In any other series, it would've been surpassed decades ago but sonic has avoided the power creep for so long that seeing the power up in frontiers just felt like something else
Yeah, only what 2 forms have surpassed it, without being a powered up version. Hyper and Ultra. Makes Super feel special still, and they haven't done much to dull the magisty of the form, which happes to alot with series with multiple forms like Sonic has.

It's mostly because it's still used probably as a final ultimate form (Excalibur and darkspine were sick and amazing final forms for there respective stories but stayed there) Usually most media like dragon ball introduce a new form and the last one gets left in the dust to the point of being used for mere sparring (like super Saiyan) but super sonic is still only used story wise as a final overwhelming result which keeps it at an amazing place and pedestal.
@@darklight1171 I agree. Making attaining it such a major part of the plot makes it interesting trying to figure how he will get the emeralds to become super sonic. This makes the form feel special/valuable because he has to overcome obstacles to obtain it.
Although, "Starfall Super Sonic" is a Good and Accurate name, I was thinking the Form should be called, "Cyber Super Sonic" since it's more Self-Explanatory of where exactly the Power comes from since 'Starfall' is just the Location (The Starfall Islands), but 'Cyber' is the Source (Cyber Corruption from The End's Influence and control over The Ancients' Technology and Cyberspace). Also, as a Bonus, it Rolls Off the Tongue better. I'd also like to say, Great Video!

Well, combining basic super form with an other power source that can be utilized only in very specific situations is the very same reason why you won't see darkspine, excalibur and many other forms - they also are locked and need special conditions to be achieved, that are met only in one game and then never been seen again (Sonic never comes back to the book's realms, for example, rendering those form unachievable).
I hope The End returns. In the original final boss fight it says "You strike this incarnation" meaning that the moon like body you fight isn't it's true form. Just an extension of it.
Another interesting form that wasn’t covered in this video is Fleetway Hyper Sonic from the fan continuation of the series “Sonic the Comic Online” (which even though is fan-made, has had numerous instances where the original writers and artists contribute to entire stories for it. Making it a pseudo-canon extension of the Fleetway Continuity.) In StCO, Hyper Sonic is a form archived by Sonic when he absorbs purified Chaos energy. In this form he retains his personality and ascends to a higher level of power. But the most interesting thing about it is how similar it is to “Super Sonic 2” with it being a higher level of power above Super Sonic, that can only be achieved by mastering/purifying a purely chaotic and corrupting force (he even has blue eyes and lightning lol) and it all pre-dates Sonic Frontiers

Ian Flynn has made a statement in his Bumblekast some time ago saying that the Internal Name for the enhanced form of Super Sonic with the cyan eyes only is Starfall Super Sonic(which you have mentioned in this video).

People's first mistake was viewing Goku's many forms as completely different from each other. Sonic is essentially in the same boat, people seeing Super Sonic 2 or Hyper Sonic as different forms.
Personally, I've been calling the new Super Sonic form as "Power up Super Sonic" There's 2 reasons. One is that, fun fact, the real names of Super Saiyan 2 and 3 are "Ascended Super Saiyan" and "Power up Ascended Super Sayan" (I may be wrong on the second, I don't remember that well). As confirmed by the author of DB himself, numbering the forms was done for the sake of simplicity as Super Saiyan 3's true name is very long. Second reason is that, knowing this fun fact about DB, and seeing a message saying "power up" as soon as Sonic transforms into the new Frontiers form... I put 2 with 2 and got the name "Power Up Super Sonic". Which I find better than Starfall Super Sonic, since, as far I remember, The Ancients and their technology are not related to the phenomenon of the Starfall Islands
Sadly, last I recall, the Phantom Ruby would be impossible to combine with the Chaos Emeralds. From what I remember, I believe it was told that the Phantom Ruby itself is antithetical to the Chaos Emeralds. Like, they literally repel one another. So that's probably not an option. Plus, I doubt we'll ever see any of the old Chaos Emerald stand-ins ever again, as much as I'd love to see the Sol Emeralds in another game. We were lucky to have an evolution of Super Sonic at all, so I doubt we'll get another one above this anytime soon.
The Time Stones were mentioned in Sonic x Shadow Generations, and who knows, maybe we have some unfinished business on Little Planet where we have to use the Time Stones or something?
I LOVED the idea of Cyber Super because it's a game specific upgrade. We can avoid the transformation fatigue by giving Super Sonic a new form specific to the situation and game he's in.
Fun fact: The name Super Sonic 2 as the name of the Starfall Super Sonic form originally came from data miners finding the new form's model labeled as Super Sonic 2. This was clearly a place holder, as games often do this naming scheme in the files with alternate costumes, but fans ignored the obvious and just started calling it Super Sonic 2. And, like you mentioned, it's a synthesis of two separate powers, which is why I like to compare Starfall Super Sonic to Super Kaioken, over SSJ2.

If I remember correctly, it was never said that cyber corruption comes from the end. It was that you get the cber corruption by interacting with Cyberspace. Plus, it wasn't said that Sonic got rid of corruption, just that he now can harvest the power to get stronger. So yeah, what i want to say is that there is a chance that Cyber Sonic and / or Power-uped Super Sonic (what is the name according to the Japanese Sonic Twitter account) could return in the future
According to the Master King Koco, these forms burn out if Sonic were to ever fully unleash their power since it's not a source of power that were intended to be channeled by him. It's why Sonic waited to fully power up until the final blow. I suppose it's not unthinkable that he could transform again, but the way the dialogue is written implies that this is only a temporary power that disappears once fully tapped into (The Master King specifically states that the power is "fragile" and would "leave you" if unleashed while emphasizing the need to avoid ever doing so).

I’m so glad you brought this up because I feel like they can make Hyper Sonic work if he has drawbacks I would’ve kept the idea of him being overly cracked like we all wanted but the drawback would be that the chaos emeralds have to recharge their power after using the form I’d say to a week or month so he can’t spam it kinda like an ace in a hole move.
Sega doesn't wants to add Hyper Sonic back because they fear power creep, leaving Super Sonic useless, essentially going the Dragon Ball Route with Super Saiyan 1, 2, 3, God, Blue, then the Ultra instinct and further beyond, so i believe that the proper solution to this problem is just going the Sonic 3 route and making 2 separate endings, one with Super Sonic and the other one with Hyper Sonic, like saying "Yeah, you can use Hyper sonic, which is obviously stronger and more badass than Super Sonic and makes the final boss easier, but don't forget that Super Sonic can also kick his ass too, so he's not useless!".

@@xxseyroxx3970 I hope so, while the Sonic team may be scared to go down the DBZ route with like a dozen different forms each more powerful than the last, they don't have to do that (I mean, Hyper Sonic in Sonic 3 and Knuckles didn't play too differently from Super Sonic, so it's very likely that its actual power isn't as great as the community's always played it out to be).

I believe the cyberspace control with super sonic form is like kaioken with super saiyan blue goku form. They're not completely new forms but increase the power of the currently activated form
Another reason we won't see the new Super Sonic form again is because the coco Master King warns Sonic that if he goes all out with his new power there is a chance he'll lose it completely afterwards and right at the end of the fight with the End, Sonic shouts "Sorry, Master King looks like I'm going all out after all" and he seemingly puts all of his cyber corruption energy into his last hit on the End. It's likely all of the energy that made the new form possible has completely burned out of Sonic's body because he did end up having to overexert himself to win the fight
Fun Fact: Hyper Sonic is no longer achievable in the canon. In an interview with Takashi Iizuka, he said that "the super emeralds are in a different dimension", rendering them inaccessible to Sonic.

Definitely not a bad name choice for the form. Apparently Internally the form was dubbed Starfall so thats were that name comes from, and I've heard the files call it Super Sonic 2 but that one im not 100% about. We will just have to wait until Saga gives us an official name.

Combing power sources is a great idea that could work in the future. Sega should consider since with the final horizon update shows that super sonic can't defeat every enemy
The thing I really like about Super and Hyper Sonic is that they’re technically a play on words. See, supersonic and hypersonic are real words. Sonic speed means the speed of sound (mach 1), supersonic speed means a speed beyond sonic speed (specifically mach 1-5) and hypersonic speed is a speed beyond supersonic speed (mach 5-10). It’s the true Super Sonic 2; a natural expansion of the Super form and a little more original compared to Super Sonic with how it’s clearly derived from Super Saiyan. The word ultrasonic however doesn’t mean a speed, instead it means a frequency of sound that we can’t hear. So Ultra Sonic is still cool, but doesn’t quite fit as well as super and hyper imo. It also simply makes sense for the Chaos and Master Emeralds working together being capable of a heightened transformation. Mecha Sonic achieved its own super form with the Master Emerald. While it’s never happened so it’s just speculation, imagine if Sonic could also go Super with the Master Emerald. Then what if it used both the Master and Chaos Emeralds? That’s my thoughts on that anyway.
Imagine if in sonic x shadow generations at the bonus content for sonic generations we got a remaster of acts taken from games that appeared after generations (lost world, mania, forces, frontiers, superstars...) and in the final boss we manage to get classic hyper sonic and corrupted modern super sonic. That would be epic and honestly it would turn me on
Honestly I really don't think they need to avoid hyper sonic entirely to prevent power scaling. Simply use that form sparingly. Have it be a sweet unexpected treat every few games.
I love how the new Blue eyed Frontiers form was called Super Sonic 2 in the files. The team really were pushing tower the Dragon Ball Z aspect with that name.😂

The concept of combining power sources sounds really cool and has a lot of potential. I’m imagining a world where we get to see a game with the Chaos and Sol Emeralds, where Sonic and Blaze combine these powers and both ascend to new forms for the characters drawing from both power sources. So many possibilities that I didn’t even think about until now!
Heck, if they REALLY want to avoid powercreep by not mixing forms to make something stronger, they could always pull a switcheroo and give Sonic the Sol Emeralds and Blaze the Chaos Emeralds. Bam, two brand new forms that aren't inherently drawing on a new level of power.
Before i watch this video, i came up with the idea last night, what if Hyper Sonic had toon force? That would be so cool and fun just seeing him turn into a super cool loonytoons character.
The way I see the many variations of Super Sonic like Starfall Super Sonic and Super Dark Sonic is how we classify Super Saiyan Grades and the Technique Stacking. And example would be that Starfall Super Sonic is kinda the equivelent of Super Saiyan Kaioken, two powerful abilities that can be harmful to the user, stacked upon super powerful transformed state. Super Dark Sonic is also like that, since Dark Sonic seems to be the Dark Fur Sobic shows for a couple seconds before the Fake Chaos Emeralds react to him and ascend to a probably weaker Super Sonic, and due to him being already in his Dark Form, it stacks on Super Sonic, but unlike the Cyber Curroption, Super Dark Sonic just seems to be Sonic's own upgrade to his Supor form, not really a combination of two different power sources, think of it like Super Saiyan Grade 2, or like Super Saiyan Blue Evolution. Super Sonic is probably Sonic's pinnacle form that he can achieve with the power of Chaos Energy, all he can do from there is try and mix and stack other stuff that can give him a boost, just like gow Chaox said. Tbh, Hyper Sonic is the only form I consider it to be like Super Sonic 2, since its the next pinnacle step that Sonic can obtain from the Chaos Emeralds.
imo I think the transformation power creep thing is dumb for Hyper specifically, it's an entire process to obtain and you lose access to Super while getting it, so it's not nearly as easy as Goku struggling in super saiyan so he transforms to super saiyan 2 for example, if there's something super sonic can't beat then that thing would hypothetically need to be stalled while the super emeralds are created, and there's probably not gonna be enough time to do that.
I wish we could see more about Tiny Planet and the Time Stones, what if Sonic needs to use the time stones (or time stones + emerelads) to beat the final boss? What if we could explore more of Tiny Planet? What could we learn about Metal Sonic and Amy in this return to Tiny Planet? Also it would be cool if instead of only having one evolution of Super many games had eatch their new evolutions so it doesnt powercreep
Super Sonic 2 and Cyber Super Sonic were terms gotten from digging into the in-game files, and so in absence of an official name I think those are fair enough to give them... ... But thanks to Sonic Twitter, we actually do have an official name for Super Sonic 2, that name being Super Sonic Powered Up - which is a mouthful, but fits the context of the transformation since it is Super Sonic being powered up by the Cyber Corruption.
As a fan of Katekyo Hitman Reborn, i too love to see transformations being well developed into the conditions of a specific event within the story. Waiting for these two new forms were so worth it
I have a feeling that Hyper Sonic is only specifically for Classic Sonic, while Cyber & Starfall Super Sonic is specifically for Modern Sonic. It only makes sense since we've never seen Classic Sonic using the power of the cyber corruption with his super from, nor have we seen Modern Sonic utilize the Super Emeralds to achieve another form. I believe they're just as powerful as one another.
As much as that may sound like it makes sense at face value, there's a glaring issue behind it. Modern Sonic isn't necessarily some completely different variant. He's basically the future/original counterpart of Classic Sonic that only became an alternate timeline counterpart due to the events of Generations. If you were to maybe use Dragon Ball logic, they're not like Trunks and Future Trunks, but rather Gohan and Future Gohan; both went through identical scenarios as the other up to a specific point (after Frieza's defeat on Namek). In this instance, Generations [and Mania] heavily implies that both Classic and Modern has experienced the exact same events, at LEAST up until Sonic 3& Knuckles. Therefore, it can be assumed that Modern Sonic is more than capable of achieving Hyper. He simply doesn't have the means to do so since he hasn't harnessed power on par with the Super Emeralds.
I have an idea for a video for you to do. How does Sega make levels repayable. Sonic adventure had Chao, sonic unleashed introduced red rings. Sonic forces introduced emergency missions and avatar clothing. Sonic mania had gold coins to access cheats. Sonic frontiers records your best time and if you cheated. Which was best and how could we combine them. Maybe you can implement it in your game and make a video?

to keep in line with the dragon ball parallels, i liked the idea of calling the blue-eyed Super Sonic form "Cyber Sonic Sign", the same way Goku has Ultra Instinct Sign and Ultra Instinct Mastered.
I’m mixed on Sonic receiving new forms. While Hyper Sonic and Cyber Super Sonic are cool forms, I feel like they overshadow the normal Super Form and make it feel less significant. That being said, it would be cool to see transformations surrounding other power sources such as the Phantom Ruby or even the Wisps if Sonic used all of their powers and abilities at once.
Yeah, that's the very problem the Sonic team is trying to avoid: creating a new, ultra powerful form that dwarfs the last one (or several if we're talking DBZ). While I agree that the Sonic series shouldn't be flooded with forms that just escalate in power and bullshit things they can do, I don't think that allowing Super Sonic to absolutely body everyone and everything would work out well in the long run (it'd get pretty boring). Hyper Sonic is probably the most realistic example of the absolute limit of power regarding the Sonic universe, so at the very least Sonic team could re-introduce it at some point.
Frontiers made Super Sonic a respectable sight once more. You can keep your grievances with the game itself, but there's no denying just how much the attitude and flair they gave him served to perfectly portray the power that Super Sonic *_should_* have.
What makes me so angry is that they choose not to do anything with hyper sonic because they don't wanna "copy" dragon ball, even though what they did was entirely unique the Hyper Sonic and it would've been so easy to write Super off as the unrefined version of chaos while hyper sonic, in all his brilliant glory, is the true, mastered, refined form Sonic takes on when he masters chaos to the fullest and actually have him do new cool things that aren't just bigger, stronger attacks just because the form is stronger. Let him do new cool stuff like bending space and time with his hands like playdough or cutting through it or making cool weapons or constructs out of his sparkles.
Probably because it didn’t really change the ending for 3&k. And that DBZ came out with Super Saiyan before Super State. And it’s fun to image Super State 3 and 4.
I'm with you here. Super 2 is completely redundant with Hyper and even worse it feels even more like a DBZ rip off than Super does. It was the perfect opportunity for a Hyper reappearance, hype would have been through the roof. I would have at least preferred if Super 2 had a more original design to it so it could stand more on it's own.
@@WolforNuva I prefer Super State 2. I don’t think you noticed that none of them mentioned Hyper Sonic at all in the games after 3&K. Evidence that Hyper Sonic was just a Lockon cartridge bonus to make up for the split game. It can still happen, but it would have to be similar to Super Saiyan God method to find. I’ve been having a conversation with someone over the comments of another video (dumb I know), and he refuses to see why Super State 2 is better than calling it Starfall. 2 means that there is more potential not only for Sonic, but for all who can undergo Super State. And Super State is an homage to Super Saiyan, so Super State 2 being an homage to Super Saiyan 2 makes sense. Many other properties paid homage to one of the most influential Anime franchises before, and a lot of Sonic devs are DBZ fans. Plus, Super State 2 for Tails and Knuckles would’ve been noted as them having eye colors matching their base fur color. And Super Shadow 2 with black irises and red pupils just sounds awesome. Burning Blaze 2 with Lavender Irises, so on and so forth. And then stages 3 and four. Seriously, Sega should just own the fact that Sonic shares a lot with DBZ.
@@manoftruth0935 Yeah I know Hyper hasn't been referenced since 3&K, it's just weird to pull out a new form above Super when one existed already. Especially since Origins recently brought attention back to it, even updated the difference between Super and Hyper Tails and gave Amy a Hyper form as well. Followed by the perfect opportunity for it to reappear in Frontiers, but no. It was pretty much the final nail in Hyper's coffin. I'm pretty confident now that Hyper will never return, at least with the current people in charge, and that Super 2 is more or less going to fill that role, as much as I would rather Hyper. As for the idea of Super forms 3 or 4... I dunno that just sounds like a terrible idea. DBZ invalidated the base Super Saiyan by stacking the numbers ever higher, and I would never want Super Sonic to get that treatment. I wouldn't be against other forms inspired from SS3, SS4, God or God Blue, but I'd rather they be more side grade stuff like Darkspine or Excalibur, so base Super still feels relevant. And while it would be cool to see other characters get upgraded Super forms, it'd first be great to see them get their base Super forms first. Super Knuckles or Tails haven't even been seen properly in 3D yet (I think the ones in Heroes was _meant_ to be their super forms, since they just glowed in the classics too, I don't really feel it's appropriate to count a yellow ball a Super form), though it would be funny if Tails got a Super 2 form in 3D before a normal Super form, as a fun nod to how in the original S3&K Tails could get essentially a Hyper form (even if they called it a Super one) but not a traditional Super form until Origins.
@@WolforNuva the thing is that hyper had no place in frontiers, the master emerald just had one single appearence in a flashback in the game, the only other power source that the game has aside from the chaos emeralds is the cyber energy, and super sonic 2 having minimal changes makes sense given the fact that he is holding back alot also i agree with you about super 3 and beyond, it would be really stupid, i dont think super sonic 2 is ever making a return, but if it does i hope it stays as sonic last form, or IMO what would be the best if they just keep regular super sonic and give an excuse to keep cyber energy with sonic as a upgrade to his base making it one of his unique traits, similar to shadow and his inhibitor rings

Great video as always Chaomix! This is probably a hot take but I personally liked the Final Horizons ending quite a lot more than the original ending, my only gripes (which some got fixed) 1: I wish we go to control cyber sonic in some way even if only for a little bit 2: I wish the enemies in final horizon were handled beter 3: I wish Amy, Tails and knuckles skill trees were bigger 4: while I do like the movement in frontiers I hope they improve on it in the big open zone sonic game 5. I wish they explained or telegraphed the cutting thr cord of the final boss better Frontiers and the final horizon is certain far from perfect but man it was a lot of fun! And it was still really cool we got to see 2 new forms! And overall I quite enjoyed the game and consider it quite good! Its at bare minimum at least a 7.5/10 and at higheest it may be a 8/10 for me I really do believe frontiers and final horizon is basically the prototype of the open zone formula formula that they can build off and greatly improve off of and I hope that the increased budget and bigger team will help a lot! Now whether they do or not I have no idea but I'm excited and nervous for the future of Sonic! And hey because of frontiers Sega is reviving a bunch of their older ips!

I was excited for the new form when I played but all it did was force me to perfect parry all of the enemies attacks. I did the cyloop to stun it, and that just made it impossible to hit him. I feel like it just made the fight more difficult, and it didn’t explain how to actually defeat it at all.
Wasn't there an old (few years old) fanfic about this? Sonic meets a new enemy, can't beat him, creates a time machine, goes back to previous games to get things like the Rings and Excalibur, tries again, fails, rinse and repeat, until Sonic beats the enemy? With like, cameos from the other games + two appendices where he meets the Archie comic versions of himself?
I feel the issue with Super Forms is that -They dont have any real drawbacks beyond "lose rings" (which is usually just a game mechanic). No unique drawback mechanic (game or lore wise) -They arent personal to the user. As in it doesnt have its own theming based on the characters personally, backstory, or irl inpiration. (This also affects the design of the forms just being color changes or even worse glorified Speed Shoes + Invincibility Box) -The actual power system that enables the transformation is underdeveloped. In base or Super Form (the only except ion is ofc Shadow and even then its not at its fullest) -And has the possibility of power creep. If these issues are addressed, we can have these really unique and cool super forms for certain characters.
I love your dubbed name for Super Sonic 2 being "Starfall Super Sonic" I would call it Cyber Super Sonic because its the combined power of the cyber corruption and is super form.
Something that the video never pointed out is hypersonic and cyber Sonic are really similar thematically. They both have to do with regular Sonic. Going through some sort of challenge. Whether it's willingly relinquishing the emeralds. Or being trained to utilize a power source, not his own. They both are examples of Sonic going beyond what he thought he was capable of. The player going beyond what they thought they were capable of. He's higher forms always represent a gameplay challenge for the player. They aren't just handed out Willy-nilly.
0:46 Gotta love the reference of "going even further beyond", especially given that Sonic's forms are clearly Dragon Ball inspired. Also, I think Starfall Sonic (unlike Cyber Sonic, a form specifically labelled after the power it uses) might return with basically any corruption Sonic learns to control. Maybe different corruptions could even have different Cyber Sonic counterparts while sharing the same Starfall Sonic form, with the game having a different corruption type be prevalent depending on the route taken during the playthrough.
A cool form I would like to see would be actually dark. Starfall supersonic using dark sonic but combining that with the power of the cyber corruption not only would it probably look insanely epic but the powers would be insane. Perhaps he could get enhanced to speed in fact he could be so fast that he could practically teleport.
Been a while since I played the final horizon or whatever its name is, BUT, going by wording and semantics, The Master King Koco did imply that Sonic's training wasn't just to control the cyberspace corruption, but to master, make it his own, also, he only implied the *possibility* of losing that power if Sonic went all out (which he did). So basically we can't be 100% sure Sonic lost that power because all we know is that Sonic went back to eother Super Sonic or Starfall Super Sonic (he doesn't have his eyes open so I can't tell + he also has a red aura around him so yeah)

The developers did actually say he was supposed to get some kind of power for collecting all the time stones originally. Though the form was visually going to just be him covered in invincibility sparkles with speed shoes.
It's crazy how long super sonic has maintained its status as sonic's strongest form. In any other series, it would've been surpassed decades ago but sonic has avoided the power creep for so long that seeing the power up in frontiers just felt like something else

Usually most media like dragon ball introduce a new form and the last one gets left in the dust to the point of being used for mere sparring (like super Saiyan) but super sonic is still only used story wise as a final overwhelming result which keeps it at an amazing place and pedestal.

Although, "Starfall Super Sonic" is a Good and Accurate name, I was thinking the Form should be called, "Cyber Super Sonic" since it's more Self-Explanatory of where exactly the Power comes from since 'Starfall' is just the Location (The Starfall Islands), but 'Cyber' is the Source (Cyber Corruption from The End's Influence and control over The Ancients' Technology and Cyberspace). Well, combining basic super form with an other power source that can be utilized only in very specific situations is the very same reason why you won't see darkspine, excalibur and many other forms - they also are locked and need special conditions to be achieved, that are met only in one game and then never been seen again (Sonic never comes back to the book's realms, for example, rendering those form unachievable).
I hope The End returns. In the original final boss fight it says "You strike this incarnation" meaning that the moon like body you fight isn't it's true form. Just an extension of it.
Another interesting form that wasn’t covered in this video is Fleetway Hyper Sonic from the fan continuation of the series “Sonic the Comic Online” (which even though is fan-made, has had numerous instances where the original writers and artists contribute to entire stories for it. Making it a pseudo-canon extension of the Fleetway Continuity.)
In StCO, Hyper Sonic is a form archived by Sonic when he absorbs purified Chaos energy. In this form he retains his personality and ascends to a higher level of power. But the most interesting thing about it is how similar it is to “Super Sonic 2” with it being a higher level of power above Super Sonic, that can only be achieved by mastering/purifying a purely chaotic and corrupting force (he even has blue eyes and lightning lol) and it all pre-dates Sonic Frontiers

Personally, I've been calling the new Super Sonic form as "Power up Super Sonic"
There's 2 reasons. One is that, fun fact, the real names of Super Saiyan 2 and 3 are "Ascended Super Saiyan" and "Power up Ascended Super Sayan" (I may be wrong on the second, I don't remember that well). As confirmed by the author of DB himself, numbering the forms was done for the sake of simplicity as Super Saiyan 3's true name is very long.
Second reason is that, knowing this fun fact about DB, and seeing a message saying "power up" as soon as Sonic transforms into the new Frontiers form... I put 2 with 2 and got the name "Power Up Super Sonic".
Which I find better than Starfall Super Sonic, since, as far I remember, The Ancients and their technology are not related to the phenomenon of the Starfall Islands
Sadly, last I recall, the Phantom Ruby would be impossible to combine with the Chaos Emeralds. From what I remember, I believe it was told that the Phantom Ruby itself is antithetical to the Chaos Emeralds. Like, they literally repel one another. So that's probably not an option. Plus, I doubt we'll ever see any of the old Chaos Emerald stand-ins ever again, as much as I'd love to see the Sol Emeralds in another game. We were lucky to have an evolution of Super Sonic at all, so I doubt we'll get another one above this anytime soon.

Fun fact: The name Super Sonic 2 as the name of the Starfall Super Sonic form originally came from data miners finding the new form's model labeled as Super Sonic 2.
This was clearly a place holder, as games often do this naming scheme in the files with alternate costumes, but fans ignored the obvious and just started calling it Super Sonic 2.
And, like you mentioned, it's a synthesis of two separate powers, which is why I like to compare Starfall Super Sonic to Super Kaioken, over SSJ2.

If I remember correctly, it was never said that cyber corruption comes from the end. It was that you get the cber corruption by interacting with Cyberspace. Plus, it wasn't said that Sonic got rid of corruption, just that he now can harvest the power to get stronger.
So yeah, what i want to say is that there is a chance that Cyber Sonic and / or Power-uped Super Sonic (what is the name according to the Japanese Sonic Twitter account) could return in the future
According to the Master King Koco, these forms burn out if Sonic were to ever fully unleash their power since it's not a source of power that were intended to be channeled by him. It's why Sonic waited to fully power up until the final blow. I suppose it's not unthinkable that he could transform again, but the way the dialogue is written implies that this is only a temporary power that disappears once fully tapped into (The Master King specifically states that the power is "fragile" and would "leave you" if unleashed while emphasizing the need to avoid ever doing so).

I’m so glad you brought this up because I feel like they can make Hyper Sonic work if he has drawbacks I would’ve kept the idea of him being overly cracked like we all wanted but the drawback would be that the chaos emeralds have to recharge their power after using the form I’d say to a week or month so he can’t spam it kinda like an ace in a hole move.
Sega doesn't wants to add Hyper Sonic back because they fear power creep, leaving Super Sonic useless, essentially going the Dragon Ball Route with Super Saiyan 1, 2, 3, God, Blue, then the Ultra instinct and further beyond, so i believe that the proper solution to this problem is just going the Sonic 3 route and making 2 separate endings, one with Super Sonic and the other one with Hyper Sonic, like saying "Yeah, you can use Hyper sonic, which is obviously stronger and more badass than Super Sonic and makes the final boss easier, but don't forget that Super Sonic can also kick his ass too, so he's not useless!".

I believe the cyberspace control with super sonic form is like kaioken with super saiyan blue goku form. They're not completely new forms but increase the power of the currently activated form
Another reason we won't see the new Super Sonic form again is because the coco Master King warns Sonic that if he goes all out with his new power there is a chance he'll lose it completely afterwards and right at the end of the fight with the End, Sonic shouts "Sorry, Master King looks like I'm going all out after all" and he seemingly puts all of his cyber corruption energy into his last hit on the End. It's likely all of the energy that made the new form possible has completely burned out of Sonic's body because he did end up having to overexert himself to win the fight
Fun Fact: Hyper Sonic is no longer achievable in the canon. In an interview with Takashi Iizuka, he said that "the super emeralds are in a different dimension", rendering them inaccessible to Sonic.

Combing power sources is a great idea that could work in the future. Sega should consider since with the final horizon update shows that super sonic can't defeat every enemy
The thing I really like about Super and Hyper Sonic is that they’re technically a play on words. See, supersonic and hypersonic are real words. Sonic speed means the speed of sound (mach 1), supersonic speed means a speed beyond sonic speed (specifically mach 1-5) and hypersonic speed is a speed beyond supersonic speed (mach 5-10). It’s the true Super Sonic 2; a natural expansion of the Super form and a little more original compared to Super Sonic with how it’s clearly derived from Super Saiyan.
The word ultrasonic however doesn’t mean a speed, instead it means a frequency of sound that we can’t hear. So Ultra Sonic is still cool, but doesn’t quite fit as well as super and hyper imo.
It also simply makes sense for the Chaos and Master Emeralds working together being capable of a heightened transformation. Mecha Sonic achieved its own super form with the Master Emerald. While it’s never happened so it’s just speculation, imagine if Sonic could also go Super with the Master Emerald. Then what if it used both the Master and Chaos Emeralds? That’s my thoughts on that anyway.
My guess is either it would create Hyper Sonic, or something between the 2 forms, as the Super Emeralds power is derived from the Master Emerald.

Imagine if in sonic x shadow generations at the bonus content for sonic generations we got a remaster of acts taken from games that appeared after generations (lost world, mania, forces, frontiers, superstars...) and in the final boss we manage to get classic hyper sonic and corrupted modern super sonic. That would be epic and honestly it would turn me on
Honestly I really don't think they need to avoid hyper sonic entirely to prevent power scaling. Simply use that form sparingly. Have it be a sweet unexpected treat every few games.
I love how the new Blue eyed Frontiers form was called Super Sonic 2 in the files. The team really were pushing tower the Dragon Ball Z aspect with that name.😂

The concept of combining power sources sounds really cool and has a lot of potential. I’m imagining a world where we get to see a game with the Chaos and Sol Emeralds, where Sonic and Blaze combine these powers and both ascend to new forms for the characters drawing from both power sources. So many possibilities that I didn’t even think about until now!
I hope that this is how upgrade from work. It's a way to not have a lot of power creep.
Heck, if they REALLY want to avoid powercreep by not mixing forms to make something stronger, they could always pull a switcheroo and give Sonic the Sol Emeralds and Blaze the Chaos Emeralds. Bam, two brand new forms that aren't inherently drawing on a new level of power.

The way I see the many variations of Super Sonic like Starfall Super Sonic and Super Dark Sonic is how we classify Super Saiyan Grades and the Technique Stacking.
And example would be that Starfall Super Sonic is kinda the equivelent of Super Saiyan Kaioken, two powerful abilities that can be harmful to the user, stacked upon super powerful transformed state.
Super Dark Sonic is also like that, since Dark Sonic seems to be the Dark Fur Sobic shows for a couple seconds before the Fake Chaos Emeralds react to him and ascend to a probably weaker Super Sonic, and due to him being already in his Dark Form, it stacks on Super Sonic, but unlike the Cyber Curroption, Super Dark Sonic just seems to be Sonic's own upgrade to his Supor form, not really a combination of two different power sources, think of it like Super Saiyan Grade 2, or like Super Saiyan Blue Evolution.
Super Sonic is probably Sonic's pinnacle form that he can achieve with the power of Chaos Energy, all he can do from there is try and mix and stack other stuff that can give him a boost, just like gow Chaox said.
Tbh, Hyper Sonic is the only form I consider it to be like Super Sonic 2, since its the next pinnacle step that Sonic can obtain from the Chaos Emeralds.

imo I think the transformation power creep thing is dumb for Hyper specifically, it's an entire process to obtain and you lose access to Super while getting it, so it's not nearly as easy as Goku struggling in super saiyan so he transforms to super saiyan 2 for example, if there's something super sonic can't beat then that thing would hypothetically need to be stalled while the super emeralds are created, and there's probably not gonna be enough time to do that.

Super Sonic 2 and Cyber Super Sonic were terms gotten from digging into the in-game files, and so in absence of an official name I think those are fair enough to give them...
... But thanks to Sonic Twitter, we actually do have an official name for Super Sonic 2, that name being Super Sonic Powered Up - which is a mouthful, but fits the context of the transformation since it is Super Sonic being powered up by the Cyber Corruption.
As a fan of Katekyo Hitman Reborn, i too love to see transformations being well developed into the conditions of a specific event within the story. Waiting for these two new forms were so worth it
I have a feeling that Hyper Sonic is only specifically for Classic Sonic, while Cyber & Starfall Super Sonic is specifically for Modern Sonic.
It only makes sense since we've never seen Classic Sonic using the power of the cyber corruption with his super from, nor have we seen Modern Sonic utilize the Super Emeralds to achieve another form.
I believe they're just as powerful as one another.
Classic Sonic never even interacted with cyber energy, and there's no reason Modern wouldn't be able to use the Super Emeralds.

As much as that may sound like it makes sense at face value, there's a glaring issue behind it.
Modern Sonic isn't necessarily some completely different variant. He's basically the future/original counterpart of Classic Sonic that only became an alternate timeline counterpart due to the events of Generations. If you were to maybe use Dragon Ball logic, they're not like Trunks and Future Trunks, but rather Gohan and Future Gohan; both went through identical scenarios as the other up to a specific point (after Frieza's defeat on Namek).
In this instance, Generations [and Mania] heavily implies that both Classic and Modern has experienced the exact same events, at LEAST up until Sonic 3& Knuckles. Therefore, it can be assumed that Modern Sonic is more than capable of achieving Hyper. He simply doesn't have the means to do so since he hasn't harnessed power on par with the Super Emeralds.

I have an idea for a video for you to do. How does Sega make levels repayable. Sonic adventure had Chao, sonic unleashed introduced red rings. Sonic forces introduced emergency missions and avatar clothing. Sonic mania had gold coins to access cheats. Sonic frontiers records your best time and if you cheated.

to keep in line with the dragon ball parallels, i liked the idea of calling the blue-eyed Super Sonic form "Cyber Sonic Sign", the same way Goku has Ultra Instinct Sign and Ultra Instinct Mastered.
I’m mixed on Sonic receiving new forms. While Hyper Sonic and Cyber Super Sonic are cool forms, I feel like they overshadow the normal Super Form and make it feel less significant.
That being said, it would be cool to see transformations surrounding other power sources such as the Phantom Ruby or even the Wisps if Sonic used all of their powers and abilities at once.
Yeah, that's the very problem the Sonic team is trying to avoid: creating a new, ultra powerful form that dwarfs the last one (or several if we're talking DBZ).
While I agree that the Sonic series shouldn't be flooded with forms that just escalate in power and bullshit things they can do, I don't think that allowing Super Sonic to absolutely body everyone and everything would work out well in the long run (it'd get pretty boring). Hyper Sonic is probably the most realistic example of the absolute limit of power regarding the Sonic universe, so at the very least Sonic team could re-introduce it at some point.

You can keep your grievances with the game itself, but there's no denying just how much the attitude and flair they gave him served to perfectly portray the power that Super Sonic *_should_* have.
What makes me so angry is that they choose not to do anything with hyper sonic because they don't wanna "copy" dragon ball, even though what they did was entirely unique the Hyper Sonic and it would've been so easy to write Super off as the unrefined version of chaos while hyper sonic, in all his brilliant glory, is the true, mastered, refined form Sonic takes on when he masters chaos to the fullest and actually have him do new cool things that aren't just bigger, stronger attacks just because the form is stronger. Let him do new cool stuff like bending space and time with his hands like playdough or cutting through it or making cool weapons or constructs out of his sparkles.

I'm with you here. Super 2 is completely redundant with Hyper and even worse it feels even more like a DBZ rip off than Super does. It was the perfect opportunity for a Hyper reappearance, hype would have been through the roof. I would have at least preferred if Super 2 had a more original design to it so it could stand more on it's own.

I don’t think you noticed that none of them mentioned Hyper Sonic at all in the games after 3&K. Evidence that Hyper Sonic was just a Lockon cartridge bonus to make up for the split game.
It can still happen, but it would have to be similar to Super Saiyan God method to find.
I’ve been having a conversation with someone over the comments of another video (dumb I know), and he refuses to see why Super State 2 is better than calling it Starfall. 2 means that there is more potential not only for Sonic, but for all who can undergo Super State.
And Super State is an homage to Super Saiyan, so Super State 2 being an homage to Super Saiyan 2 makes sense.
Many other properties paid homage to one of the most influential Anime franchises before, and a lot of Sonic devs are DBZ fans.
Plus, Super State 2 for Tails and Knuckles would’ve been noted as them having eye colors matching their base fur color. And Super Shadow 2 with black irises and red pupils just sounds awesome.
Burning Blaze 2 with Lavender Irises, so on and so forth. And then stages 3 and four. Seriously, Sega should just own the fact that Sonic shares a lot with DBZ.
@@manoftruth0935 Yeah I know Hyper hasn't been referenced since 3&K, it's just weird to pull out a new form above Super when one existed already. Especially since Origins recently brought attention back to it, even updated the difference between Super and Hyper Tails and gave Amy a Hyper form as well. Followed by the perfect opportunity for it to reappear in Frontiers, but no.
It was pretty much the final nail in Hyper's coffin. I'm pretty confident now that Hyper will never return, at least with the current people in charge, and that Super 2 is more or less going to fill that role, as much as I would rather Hyper.
As for the idea of Super forms 3 or 4... I dunno that just sounds like a terrible idea. DBZ invalidated the base Super Saiyan by stacking the numbers ever higher, and I would never want Super Sonic to get that treatment. I wouldn't be against other forms inspired from SS3, SS4, God or God Blue, but I'd rather they be more side grade stuff like Darkspine or Excalibur, so base Super still feels relevant.
And while it would be cool to see other characters get upgraded Super forms, it'd first be great to see them get their base Super forms first. Super Knuckles or Tails haven't even been seen properly in 3D yet (I think the ones in Heroes was _meant_ to be their super forms, since they just glowed in the classics too, I don't really feel it's appropriate to count a yellow ball a Super form), though it would be funny if Tails got a Super 2 form in 3D before a normal Super form, as a fun nod to how in the original S3&K Tails could get essentially a Hyper form (even if they called it a Super one) but not a traditional Super form until Origins.
@@WolforNuva the thing is that hyper had no place in frontiers, the master emerald just had one single appearence in a flashback in the game, the only other power source that the game has aside from the chaos emeralds is the cyber energy, and super sonic 2 having minimal changes makes sense given the fact that he is holding back alot
also i agree with you about super 3 and beyond, it would be really stupid, i dont think super sonic 2 is ever making a return, but if it does i hope it stays as sonic last form, or IMO what would be the best if they just keep regular super sonic and give an excuse to keep cyber energy with sonic as a upgrade to his base making it one of his unique traits, similar to shadow and his inhibitor rings

This is probably a hot take but I personally liked the Final Horizons ending quite a lot more than the original ending, my only gripes (which some got fixed)
1: I wish we go to control cyber sonic in some way even if only for a little bit
2: I wish the enemies in final horizon were handled beter
3: I wish Amy, Tails and knuckles skill trees were bigger
4: while I do like the movement in frontiers I hope they improve on it in the big open zone sonic game
5. I wish they explained or telegraphed the cutting thr cord of the final boss better
Frontiers and the final horizon is certain far from perfect but man it was a lot of fun! And it was still really cool we got to see 2 new forms! And overall I quite enjoyed the game and consider it quite good!
Its at bare minimum at least a 7.5/10 and at higheest it may be a 8/10 for me
I really do believe frontiers and final horizon is basically the prototype of the open zone formula formula that they can build off and greatly improve off of and I hope that the increased budget and bigger team will help a lot!
Now whether they do or not I have no idea but I'm excited and nervous for the future of Sonic!

I was excited for the new form when I played but all it did was force me to perfect parry all of the enemies attacks. I did the cyloop to stun it, and that just made it impossible to hit him. I feel like it just made the fight more difficult, and it didn’t explain how to actually defeat it at all.

Sonic meets a new enemy, can't beat him, creates a time machine, goes back to previous games to get things like the Rings and Excalibur, tries again, fails, rinse and repeat, until Sonic beats the enemy? With like, cameos from the other games + two appendices where he meets the Archie comic versions of himself?
I feel the issue with Super Forms is that
-They dont have any real drawbacks beyond "lose rings" (which is usually just a game mechanic). No unique drawback mechanic (game or lore wise)
-They arent personal to the user. As in it doesnt have its own theming based on the characters personally, backstory, or irl inpiration. (This also affects the design of the forms just being color changes or even worse glorified Speed Shoes + Invincibility Box)
-The actual power system that enables the transformation is underdeveloped. In base or Super Form (the only except ion is ofc Shadow and even then its not at its fullest)
-And has the possibility of power creep.
If these issues are addressed, we can have these really unique and cool super forms for certain characters.

Something that the video never pointed out is hypersonic and cyber Sonic are really similar thematically. They both have to do with regular Sonic. Going through some sort of challenge. Whether it's willingly relinquishing the emeralds. Or being trained to utilize a power source, not his own. They both are examples of Sonic going beyond what he thought he was capable of. The player going beyond what they thought they were capable of. He's higher forms always represent a gameplay challenge for the player. They aren't just handed out Willy-nilly.

Also, I think Starfall Sonic (unlike Cyber Sonic, a form specifically labelled after the power it uses) might return with basically any corruption Sonic learns to control. Maybe different corruptions could even have different Cyber Sonic counterparts while sharing the same Starfall Sonic form, with the game having a different corruption type be prevalent depending on the route taken during the playthrough.

Been a while since I played the final horizon or whatever its name is, BUT, going by wording and semantics, The Master King Koco did imply that Sonic's training wasn't just to control the cyberspace corruption, but to master, make it his own, also, he only implied the *possibility* of losing that power if Sonic went all out (which he did). So basically we can't be 100% sure Sonic lost that power because all we know is that Sonic went back to eother Super Sonic or Starfall Super Sonic (he doesn't have his eyes open so I can't tell + he also has a red aura around him so yeah)
I feel like the Super Sonic being shot out a cannon at a planet just HAS to be a reference to Sonic X the gun is basically the sonic driver

Considering how uterly busted sonic and especialy super sonic are in comics it would be insane how strong a proper higher form like hyper would be
