I feel your pain my friend. Hate doing jobs twice and learning the hard way. I did a pump in an '09 half ton Chevy the other day and my goodness. Looked it up on the NAPA Prolink and there was a listing of about 7 different pumps. Decided I better do it by the VIN and looked up an OE one to get a good number to cross. The late model stuff seems to get harder to do just using year make and model. Keep up the good work! And remember... some times we do it nice cuz we do it twice!
My gauge has been off since my brother and I replaced my pump 5 years ago. I assumed the float wasn't working properly. Too much of a hassle to take the bed of my Chevy pickup off again, so I just learned to live with it and rely on my trip odometer for monitoring my fuel. I'll have to remember this video if/when I decide to address it. Thanks for the explanation!
I just replaced the fuel pump in my Holden Barina. The float was starting to go bad before the the pump failed. My pump and float are separate parts and I only replaced the pump. The original float is still in there. Today I filled the tank at the petrol station and the guage reads 1/2 full. I reset my Trip Meter to zero at the petrol station and I know my car will do at least 500km on a full tank of premium 95 fuel . Less on 91. Don't know whether I can be bothered fixing it . It's worth probably carrying a full Jerry Can of fuel in the car in case I forget to reset trip Meter and run out of fuel from inaccurate reading. Something to think about

@@Brandi.Nicole yup as long as it's running and sounding like a normal engine without any acceleration issues then it should be fine. Great clear explanation...I just put in a new fuel level sensor and my fuel gauge still shows empty so trying to figure out if the new sensor is just Dead on arrival...hahah...
I had the fuel sending unit to go bad on my 97 Pontiac Grand Prix. I order a new sending unit for it. The new one looked the same but had a slightly larger electrical connector on it. I really wonted to get the job done and did not want to take the time of sending the new on back so I put the old plug connector on the new sending unit, I had the same problem a wrong reading on the gas gauge. To make a long story short the new one measure out different ohms than the old one and the small fingers was worn off the old one. I was able to take the fingers off of the new one and put them on the old one. Now everything works and reads fine and I saved a ton of money.

Good stuff. I just bought a 1990 Olds 98 and filled it up and it did go to over full but 20 miles down the road it showed I used 1/8 of a tank. It does bob back and forth to over full and down 1.8 tank. Is that the sender or the gauge on the dash? 100K on car.

Never had to go by the vin buying parts from the auto parts store.Only when you have to get them from the dealer.Another thing is don't ever buy any aftermarket fuel pump, you will do the job over and over again.Airtex is well known for high failure rates and says installer error which is not true.Delphi and AC Delco only for GMs.The fuel pumps for the 1997 to 2001 GM trucks come with an updated plug in which Delphi does this. You cut the old connector off and replace it with the updated connector.

I'm glad I saw your video prior to ordering a pump sending unit. I have the same issue on a 2003 lincoln navigator. Where It says a 1/4 tank dashboard gauge and 140 miles to empty info display. All this at fixing the micro relay pump relay and changing fuel filter at 112k miles after engine stalls with no code. I believe the resistance of the sender from your video for mine has gone bad too. Until I replaced the parts. Never paid attention to it and I'm seeing fluctuating numbers in the info display. Car all in green monitors and drives flawlessly. I tried resetting for 10 min by disconnecting battery for full reset on vehicle. After reconnecting and driving all monitors green and still display on miles to empty fluctuating. Any other ideas for fixing or resets? Care to comment? Thanks
On some after market fuel pump the float lever is backwards. When you install it, it Will mark. "E" empty on the fuel gauge, if your tank is full, but as your drive and burn gas the needle in your fuel gauge will start moving to the "F" full. How do you fix the problem??? Some people reverse the fuel lever. That might help solve the problem.
Thats kinda my situation. The level reads when the 94 gmc Jimmy is off when turned on it dives to empty - but theres 1/3rd tank in it. Can u just switch the 2 wires?

3 possibilities. Could be the wrong part. Could be the electrical connection is not making contact. Could be an improper install ( the float may be sticking and not moving )
Had an interesting scenario. I was having an issue with level being off on a brand new pump. The old pump didn't give accurate level either. Pulled new installed fuel pump, and connecting the plug, and moving the floater outside the tank shows accurate levels;but after placing in the tank it is off. Added 3 gallons of gas, it still shows empty tank. Any ideas? I could not tell exactly where you were connecting your meter btw.

Replaced 2005 Park Ave fuel pump with OEM- part. Now fuel gauge is inaccurate. Shows 1/4 empty when really below 1/2. Used exact orig gm partFor 3800 supercharged engine. So..2 years ago, I asked a mechanic to replace my 1998 Dodge Caravan 2.4L fuel filter that was changed 22 years ago. When he did it he cracked the fuel pump connectors and it leaked gas. I paid for the part and he did labor free. Bosch. The gauge read low. Still had 5 gallons left when gauge was at E. He replaced it and same level issue. I said forget it and was same for 2 years and 2 months. The sensor started making the fuel gauge needle go down and the chime came on with the gas tank idiot light coming on. I GOOGLED it and saw complaints like this and saw might be caused by sulfur in gas tarnishing the metal on the sensor metal.. I put in 2 bottles of Techron and for a time chime was lot less but now is awful!. So far I can't find what metal the sensor windings are made of for BOSCH. I see 2 brands, one using gold (Delphi) and other silver palladium. THEN... I see ranges of 70 to 1050 OHMS for replacement pumps (ON Rock Auto info on their pump assortments. and then I see 33 to 240 for Bosch and American makes. I was about to put a cheat resistor in the harness to make it so I could stop the low level CHIME stop. BUT now I don't know what value to put in. I was going to put in a 680 or 750 OHM but when I saw this new range. I put a temp hold on this cheat. The gauge anti- slosh makes the needle move slower but the chime comes on right away. I think the float needle is getting to a dead high OHM spot on the sensor. I found out a couple weeks ago that Bosch went to a lifetime warranty.. but there are qualifiers and so I will see what push back I get from Bosch.
Too late, Put in a Napa, Dephi replacement pump and gauge read empty with 10 gal in it. Now I have to drop the tank again with a creeper and jack stands. Maybe just order the pump motor or take it off the new one. It is a 2003 F150 with only 32K on it.
i had the fuel pump assembly replaced in my 97 GMC Sonoma and I bought the part by vin number which for my particular model is X i bought a new floater for it prior guage didnt work before that and when it was replaced it stopped at 3 quarters full when the tank is full and recently i replaced the entire pump assembly and it still stops at 3 quarters full when the tank is full
just replaced the fuel sending unit, stupid me ordered a flex fuel unit instead of the regular gas one, had to rewire the harness, however when replacing it, it only turns on and pumps but won't prime, question is, even though it's a flex fuel one (wrong one) should it not work? I matched both the old with the new nothing different but I never tested it with the voltage reader at the lever.
Just did mine fuel pump and tank was almost empty but gauge read Full after i was done. Had to drop the tank again to check the pump..turns out the floater had clipped off the leveler..snapped in to place and bing..Now it read Empty which is just right lol..pumped gas and everythings good
I just did this on a 2007 Chevy Uplander. Except instead of getting the year wrong, I got the wheel base wrong. Pump works great and the vehicle runs properly, but the gauge reads Empty with a full tank. I'd rather not buy another pump so, I'm going to attempt to manipulate the sensor arm/floater in a way that it might work the right way. Can this actually be done? Anyone ever have to deal with this? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks. Great video by the way.

I think this is my problem in a 2003 Silverado and got a 2004 fuel pump how can I fix it can I tune the car computer to fix it?
I don't think a tune will do it. You need to get the correct pump
CHANGED GAS TANK ON 2000 TROOPER, NOW GAUGE READS EMPTY WHEN TANK IS FULL. AFTER 200 MILES, WITH ANOUT 2 GALLONS IN TANK, NEEDLE GOES TO ALMOST FULL.
I just change my mini cooper fuel pump then the indicator goes wrong... Tank are empty but the gauge shows 3 bar... Need some help

Flat Line bad ground on the frame.
Could you do one for a Ford courier.PC model.95 built
Hi Donny, I don't have a Ford courier right now, but I'mm keep it in mind.
nice job but sometimes we learn by mistakes remember we are only humans
thanks
Hi, i just replace the fuel pump on a nissan titan, got the new one in,i fill up the tank, and i been drive my truck for arround 1 hour and it havent drop nothing,

my is a 330i when it's full goes to a wrong reading loiter full
i just put mine in neutral and it shows the correct amount of fuel
Hi
Too late. Doing it twice
02 honda crv replaced fuel pump after gages not reading corect
Let me guess its a cheap chineese pump, the pump is going to intermittently shut off as well.you are going to get all sorts of generic codes from this piece of crap
MY FUCKING TRUCK JACOB IS NOT YOUR BOND BYE
this is pointless if you replaced just the pump.
but its telling us that some pumps even within the same generation could be different...
Thanks for the info, I didn’t order by VIN , But going to do frm now on . I appreciate the Video .
