My wife’s vehicle fuel gauge did not work and she was always running out of gas. Her vehicle needed a new fuel pump to replace sending unit.

My fuel gauge in my B5 is different. It works and all but here's how it reads. Remember I'm running pump E85. From a full tank to the ½ tank line I get 200 miles. From ½ to ¼ I get about 50 and after you can literally watch the needle move. Needless to say I fuel up soon after I get to the ½ tank point! I do still get 20 mpg on E85. I've been testing ethanol levels monthly(ish) for about 18 months now and it's always 80%. Also fun fact, I did a compression test on my 1.8T (not the built one) and it's at 75psi on all 4! I can't believe it still runs, and it runs good!

I’ve replaced the fuel pump twice on a 2010 challenger. The fuel sending unit was replaced twice. And both times it still read inaccurate. It’ll read half when it’s full, then all of sudden start reading full. Then when it’s at about 3/4 a tank it’ll tell me it’s at 1/2. And when it’s bellow 3/4 it will slowly drain down till it says empty in a few seconds.

This sounds like it could be a cable run issue such as a bad connection or poor earth. Or are you running 2000hp and have a heavy right foot so the poor gauge can't keep up with you? lol

Fuel gauges are NEVER accurate in my experience, even if they are digital.
In my 2011 VW Golf, the needle won't move from full position until you've done 100 miles...
Even better is when the needle is at Empty and the digital dash is saying 0 miles left of range, I drove for another 36 miles before the car conked out on me 😂😂

I just wish the needle was actually accurate for once… I had a 2013 Fabia vRS and sometimes I could do up to 100 miles before the needle even moved.
Same goes for my 2018 Karoq it doesn’t move an inch until I’ve done about 100-150 miles then it seems to go down at a steady rate, how is it so difficult for manufacturers to get that right?
