    In permaculture they make sure the pond has sufficient clay deposits to make the pond permeable. Leaking slowly to build up ground water further down. They also build the dam high in the terrain to gain the highest amount of groundwater. Kentucky is blessed with generally abundant precipitation year-round so it is not something to worry about, but in dry areas this can rebuild depleted groundwater and create water abundance with minimal rainfall. For creating a rigid pond, planting trees on the top of the pond wall will help the structural integrity.
    The introduction of the fish will also help with reducing mosquito population, and the soil on the bottom of the pond can be used as potent fertilizer with high nitrogen rich soil.
    Not sure if i provided any information that you do not know already, but anyway love the project and the video.
    Much love from Norway.

      You definitely don't want to let trees grow on the pond dam.

    • @loaki9gt726
      @loaki9gt726 7 месяцев назад +1

      @yungdefl Think of the dam as a structural wall. Tree roots can burrow into the tiniest cracks and grow, splitting the wall open and providing pathways for water to escape, and weaken the dam with water flow.

    • @seinsmeins4524
      @seinsmeins4524 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@loaki9gt726 Depends on lots of factors. In history they used certain trees to give certain dams more structural integrity (in example in the dams of channels used as waterways), there they were even necessary as they reduced the winds coming from the sides, which would have had a very negative effect on the boats. But it really depends on, amongst other things, the area with its typical weather conditions, the type of trees and the tree care if it works or not.

      If it’s mixed with the right oil like clay plus rock mix, it should in theory make it stronger with roots, think of wattle and daub, the rock and roots provide the strength, and the clay provides the flexibility and durability.

    I saw you were looking for suggestions on your pond. Instead of buying a fish feeder and food, get some car or truck tire inner tubes, put some chicken wire on top of the inner tubes and tie it down. Place a fish , or raw meat or chicken on screen cover loosely with food wrap leaving edges open. This allows flies to get in and lay eggs which will produce tons of maggots which will fall through chicken wire when you anchor it in the lake and feed the fish. Let nature supply your fish food. Might want to cover fish so birds can't get at them with branches or non see through plastic. Good luck Hud

    So, we are in talks about building a pond, about this size. We are down in Smiths Grove, Ky-Bowling Green. We’ve had the property for a year. We have consulted with a few people, and we hope we can do a lot of it ourselves. I just found this video tonight.
    I’m wondering if you are willing to share the approximate cost to build your amazing pond. We haven’t found any creeks, springs to help provide water. Hoping we have something. I doubt it.
    Again in the very early stages. Just even a ballpark would be great. I wanted to find property with existing pond, but we have a small one for cows, animals, when we get them. My husband thinks I’m crazy for wanting this but he’s not paying for it!! Lifetime dream.
    Thank you in advance.

      @@DrydenTeele. Mine is smaller too. About 2 or 3 acres. It's not fed by a creek like this one, but I was told several different stories about how there was a spring somewhere at the bottom. We had our pond right next to the neighbors pond. The neighbors was black, ours was light brown and had a slick clay bottom. The neighbors hit hard times so we bought their pond and connected the two with a channel. We have these black eel things with arms. Blue Gill, bass, catfish, and a few other fishes. The dang cows stand in there and shit. Stupid cows don't even moo, they sound like a trumpet. They're called Belted Galloway cattle and they're furry like a teddy bear.

    🤔 If you're going spread a 2 part powdered mixture in the pond to help prevent leaks, you might want to combine the 2 powders together first & make sure they are thoroughly mixed together before spreading them in the pond. By throwing in one part at a time you're not guaranteeing a thorough mixture of the 2 components. Thus leaving room for failure. Have a great day 😊.

    Kendall, great job on your videos. You're a natural. Love the funny comments you constantly work into the video. You have a built in comedic gift. It's apparent you work hard on editing too. Nice job.

    ***Often we would get 10-20tons of Clay brought in to coat the dams when we make ponds. Sure it will r you few thousand but, what is all your TIME worth doing and redoing this pond? Of course we have never done a pond as large or deep as this one but, same concept

    A really good simple wooden structure that have proven very efficient as an hideout for fish is a simple square timber/logg house design, you can adapt the hight acording to your water. 1-2feet high, 6ft squared dont need alot off rocks to stay down untill its water logged. tie it down with something biodegradable, if the wood was reasonably dry and not super resionous it'll stay down eventually. ❤

    Awesome ! Flat Power !!! Hyperborea may exist at Magnetic North directly under Polaris at the center of our Plane. If we stay here we die. We have nothing to lose.
