Could you try and make a song in your video editor? or like PowerPoint? At least a video editor is audio editing adjacent, but I also think PowerPoint can handle audio in some form... That'd be sick if it was possible

This was a fun watch. I have never used a DAW other than this one, so when i saw ableton for the first time, or even other DAWs like reaper who have a way different way of doing things, i didn't understand anything. Every different program has its own learning curve and isn't understood the same way by everyone, and that's okay! Menu diving is a big part of learning these programs.

You can write in arrangement mode or pattern mode. You can also drag instruments right onto tracks and they get assigned to the mixer and the channel rack. FL Studio is a playground that you can use in a number of ways...

  • @ant777live

Great video! I was exactly like this on my first few days using it also. Everytime I use FL I learn something new, Ableton is much easier to understand...I learnt how to make tunes in Ableton without watching any RUclips videos or help from others...FL Studio is a bit more illogical and it is very confusing at the start when you have patterns and there are tracks, channels and mixer inserts...but when you actually understand it, I find it the most fun to use, and it's great to have the regular free updates with extra sounds and instruments. It's best to avoid the fruity edition of FL as it only lets you use patterns and not samples...and patterns can be a bit annoying sometimes ; ) I don't really agree with people who think that FL is for beginners, it's probably the most confusing and is more complex than Ableton and possibly also Logic. I would recommend Ableton for most people...but if you have mastered FL, there is no going back to Ableton ; )

I feel like the difference between Ableton and FL is that Ableton is a lot more automated and kinda holds your hand. With FL you have to route the mixer yourself, there are no distinct Audio/MIDI/Automation tracks, anything can go anywhere in the arrangement window. In fact you can probably make a complete song using only one arrangement track, I wouldn't recommend it, but it would certainly work.

    • @leinexkeith291

They all get the job done. The outcome is the reflection of whoever is behind the tool. It would be boring if all the DAWs were the same.

FL Studio company should watch it and learn! They seem extremely appealing because of life updates and the easy pattern drawing but.... It actually adds literally another dimension you have to think of instead of having just the linear playlist as the core. And NO it is not more intuitive for new users and if it is for producers then they need to rethink. Thanks for your sacrifice to make the video!

    • @ericwarr9088

Actually you can use fl in a linear playlist fashion like other daws (like logic and cubase etc)...Or you can use it the "fl way" by creating in the channel rack first....

If Ableton and FL were mashed together and added their unique features together then we would need any other daw , i used FL first for years and then got abelton and i wilo say fl is definitely more intuitive , Ableton took some more figuring it ...but at the same its easier in some ways also Abletons live capabiliies are insane and it can be used a tool in many many ways ....
    What we need is Ableloops

    • @Silagane

Absolutely agree, i started with FL but the windows drove me crazy, i could not stay organized. But i love the arrangement view and its controls. Ableton, i love the slick look, but its TOO slick. I need visuals to help me remember, but all the vst's and plugins have the same layout and colors my brain cant comprehend. And the zooming and moving in the arrangement view feels a bit weird compared to FL.
      I need Ableloops too.. :(

Glad I did because watching you trying out these ‘Fruity Loops’ is making me nuts ! 😁 Don”t like the interface at all. Also read somewhere that FL Studio has been programmed in Python, which supposedly is not ideal for a processor intensive app like a DAW.;; To each his/her own, I guess. Nice video, though.
