So, I still suck at FL Studio...but I'm getting there and damn Harmor and Sytrus are insanely fun. Maybe I should finally get these Flex instruments going 😅 See the final result on Image Line's channel! ruclips.net/video/uRB-6dU5QkQ/видео.html
FL Studio is my jam. I've been using it since version 3 about 2001. I have used other DAWs such as Pro Tools, Reaper, Ableton and others. Ableton is the only other DAW that seemed to come naturally after using FL for the majority of my work. I love the concept you present of the shinning metal. Thanks for everything you share sir.
If only there were a fuckton of official how-to videos and a comprehensive manual covering everything hmm.. :D I used to do the same thinking i will know things just because i have used something similar in the past. But whenever i utilized manuals and how-tos I have saved a lot of time and energy! All the best
Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy thank you. This was such a great project to do and taught me a ton haha. Probably learned more in these 6 days than I did in the last few months!
agreed! i’ve been using FL since 2009, and it’s sometimes hard to remember that we all approach everything in our own way. Drop me in Cubase and I won’t remember my own name! But it’s weird to realize that not everyone works the way you do…it boggles my mind when FL confuses others, but it’s because it’s my native tongue :) My most recent armor test has been working on this album for a client who needed professional-sounding filmscore-y outros, and god that pushed me to the brink of hating the whole project. But we made it, and the label listen through went amazing and everyone’s happy. Sometimes you gotta test yourself hard, whether it’s figuring out FL or writing a totally new style that you’re totally unfamiliar with. Proud of you VT for pushing through and winning 🖤
Venus Theory's demo video was really promising for me. I have FL Studio but I am using another DAW for scoring. I once used FL studio for scoring but there aren't many resources to help me make it work for scoring. I hope FL Studio continues to makes it more freindly for film composers. I'm gonna switch back to FL if it does.
1- Foundation. Give the thing existence. 2- Details. Give the thing a life. 3- Define. Give the thing a face. 4- Refine. Give the thing a purpose. 5- Substract. Give the thing only the right things. 6- Assess. Give the thing one last look, and do not look back. Man, what a perfect summary of the creative process. I thing I'm gonna print it and hang it near my desk. Awesome video as always.
I love the humility. I went from Pro Tools to REAPER many years ago. I still feel that I don't know what the fuck I am doing but at the end of the day, I, like you, am creating something. Thanks for all of your efforts. They are appreciated and recognized. Thanks!
Just wanted to give an immediate thanks because I've been putting off becoming a Patron for a while, out of... laziness? Typical procrastination? Other reasons I can probably come up with that are all BS. When I start watching one of your videos, I know I'm going to learn something, not just about you, or about a product or a concept, but about myself. Your presentation styles have grown over the years and for me, you're absolutely worth supporting as a creator, regardless of the subject matter. Thanks for all of your hard work to present us with knowledge that was likely gained from other hard work (or any number of other experience types). Just thanks.
fl is very convenient there at the top all the icons are available and when pressed they give you work with what you need.and the most significant plus is that a piano roll and a VECTOR-TYPE playlist, that is, they can be made to the full screen and work with the editing of notes!!!But you're professors.....Here there is a genesis synthesizer of the 1st version, because as you know, its second version has recently been released, this is a synth that no one likes, and I used it to create a cool track in a couple of hours that recorded it in 2018.I really like his chorus and delay effects section very much!but there is not a big problem that it works perfectly only in the 32-bit version, but for me it's almost an obstacle, I love this complex and incomprehensible vst synth!!!people are very boring and they can't do anything from a small synth, but I can squeeze out the maximum using even the pitch of the notes, you can get a completely unusual sound.but today is the age of professors and you are all smart here
I think your RUclips is becoming one of my favourite channels, showing the struggle through something you're not the best at is something we don't get to see often. Thank you for this.
I'd say let's give it up to Venus Theory. I also have seen this trend with other creators, and let's continue to support our favorite channels when the platform changes too
FL Studio has been my DAW for many years (since FL Studio 4) and really only for 2 reasons: 1) I had "acquired" a copy of Fruity Loops 3 in high school (which was already starting to implement some DAW features) and had gotten pretty good at it, and 2) when I got my first paying gig, I got nervous about using "acquired" software. FL Studio had just come out and was offering lifetime upgrades for the reasonable price of $150.00. I've never looked back. I recently downloaded a licensed copy FL Studio 21 without shelling out a cent. Now that is bang for your buck.
Your vulnerability is a wonderful trait. Not enough people on YT are willing to expose themselves in such a manner and I’ll give you a thousand kudos for this video. This is the way.
I used Ableton for years as my daily driver, and spent many months using Reaper as well. Lately, I have gravitated to FL Studio---which I have used off an on for about 2 decades but never dug incredibly deep. In the past few months, I have dug deep and am truly amazed with the depth and the power of the DAW. Totally unconventional with lots of hidden gems. Gol, its primary architect, is a genius.
Yup, i used ableton and fl, and while ableton is pretty cool, i feel like you can do more stuff more easily in fl studio. A lot of "hidden" features that are super convenient
@@Pabloesc571 Childrens toys. I use Cubase along with Native Instruments and Dorica....that is what REAL MUSICIANS. FL Studio and Ableton are GREAT TOOLS because it allows non-musicians to make music
Feeling hella inspired right now. Reminding myself that I shouldn't expect actual flight from the first pair of wings I throw together from canvas and scrap lumber. Being comfortable with discomfort is the hardest part about learning and growing. Your courage is remarkable, bordering on insanity, and I have nothing but respect for what you've achieved here and your sharing of it with the world. Thank you.
I've used FL Studio for about a decade now. There was a time, about 5 or 6 years into using it, where I thought I had reached a standstill. I assumed I had maxed out the DAWs potential, and I became frustrated with how it felt my music wasn't constantly improving like it initially was in those early years. I tried some other DAWs, like Ableton, but I never felt that comfortable with them. In the end, I abandoned my old music project out of this frustration. Those were dark times; I lost my creative outlet, and in turn, I felt like I also became lost without it. Late into 2021, around Christmas time, I got really high one day and was doing my favorite thing that I like doing when I'm high, which was listening to music. At the time I was really getting into noise and experimental music (Merzbow, Prurient, Sissy Spacek, etc.), and it gave me an epiphany: what if I got back into FL and just threw out all of my preconceived theory and techniques and patterns and just experimented with it? What if I just went all out, like creating a purely abstract painting of random colors, shapes and textures, trying to make something cohesive out of chaos? What if I just... played with it? After all, it started off just being a fun thing to mess with when I was a teenager. Why not try to revisit that mindset? What ended up happening was something truly extraordinary. I managed to create sounds I had never heard before. I was creating things I had no idea I could even make. Just like that, I was officially back at it. That creative outlet I once threw away had been fully restored and completely reimagined. I'm fully convinced at this point that there's nothing you can't make using FL. It's not about the DAW you choose, it's about how you choose to use it. Kind of like how they say the best programming language is the one you're most comfortable with, I feel like that can be applied to DAWs as well.
Something I really admire about you as a creator -- and which especially shines through in this year-old video about learning something outside of your comfort zone -- is how you are a jack of SO many trades. That is something I resonate so much with. I am equally obsessed with and invested in so many different mediums myself: music production, video production, photography, singing, writing, physical art, the list goes on. I have honestly always struggled so much with collaboration because it is so hard for to let go of total creative control when I have a vision I am passionate about, and that led me to wanting to learn ALL the things because I genuinely love being able to do it all myself and not have to lean on outside expertise (though that isn't entirely true, since most of what I have learned over the past decade and beyond has come with the help of RUclips creators like yourself). Striving to be a one-man factory of audible and visual expression has been both a blessing and a strength, and also a curse and a limitation. As a music artist who has yet to see monetary reward for how much time and effort I put into my art, it is really cool to see a creator like you who has become so clearly skilled in videography which makes every video you put out so beautiful. But you are also one of the most versatile producers and sound designers I have the pleasure of learning from and being inspired by here on RUclips. Seeing someone like you who, from my perspective, IS so competent in all these different fields is incredible to watch from afar. As a primarily electronic artist, I started with FL Studio about 15 years ago and never left it. I have tried learning other DAWs and it was so incredibly brutal, despite how much I pushed myself to try to completely remap my brain when it comes to the very different workflows. I ended up coming back to FL Studio every time. The incredible drive you have, combined with your transparency and willingness to share your vulnerabilities, deserves all the respect! 🙏
OK, I thought it was some review-ish-based video, not an existential essay. 2/3 into this and still nothing about FL directly. OK, well, just misunderstood.
Ive got a TON of admiration for you, SOLELY based on the synopsis of this video(in a nutshell). Thanks for your work, ESPECIALLY for everything you've posted on Pianobook!
Due to circumstances in my life, I quit making music back in 2010 and eventually lost the use of FL Studio as I was using an associate's copy to make music up until that point. I've only just managed to finally get a copy for myself and am finally returning to it after 13 years. Even for something that was second nature to me back then, it's... quite challenging now. That challenge and unfamiliarity was manifesting as an overwhelming sense of anxiety on the first day or two. On day 3, things just started to connect. Frustration and anxiety became curiosity and excitement, and then finally genuine purpose and an eagerness to improve. I really wish I had come across this video sooner because this comment will likely be lost in the shuffle, but still. Great video, dude! Thanks so much for sharing this one.
It's encouraging and validating when I see someone I look to for instruction and inspiration go through the same struggles I do. The honesty and vulnerability of this video is beyond appreciated.
My guy just turned opening FL Studio into Rocky movie with them stretching shots and motivational words. Smirk aside, your channel has been a big inspiration and endless library of information on my music journey. Thanks to you for most part on finding and learning gems like PaulXStretch, Vital and Surge XT. I also really like the philosophical aspect you have on your channel to what's/why's and how's of creation. FL studio was indeed my first DAW long time ago.. now on Reaper, talking about the learning curve. Keep them great videos coming VT.
I am also trying to learn Reaper. I had not touched a music instrument in over 15 years. I used to play drums and guitar with a couple of local bands that basically just played the local bars and what not, until the heroin addiction got me. I'm 44 now, and finally have a small collection of instruments to start recording some music. If your serious about using Reaper, I highly recommend checking out Kenny from the YT channel "Reaper Mania". He has content ranging all the way from complete noob to advanced power user, his stuff has helped me immensely.
I've been a die-hard FL user for close to 12 years at this point. I love it as a DAW, and I've found it incredibly inspiring and fun to work with. AND it has a STEEP learning curve. It works VERY DIFFERENTLY from pretty much every DAW on the market. It is so freeform, so malleable, so quirky, that it took me WEEKS of tutorials to even figure out the basics, MONTHS to feel comfortable in it, and YEARS to feel proficient with it. The fact that you were willing to attempt to learn this beast in such a small amount of time is FRIGGIN IMPRESSIVE. Massive kudos.
I just recently went back to FL Studio after almost a decade of ignoring it simply because I started on it. I’m actually back on pretty much full time. Once I got over the “make unique” thing for midi clips, I realized how powerful and streamlined it does things compared to other DAW’s.
@@fbiopnpl1200 There is no "offense" in telling the basic truth. I can tell what age group you are in because..ANYTHING you dont agree with triggers an emotional response in YOU which you then start projecting as someone else being emotional..you a guys are just WEAK as people... FL Sudio was created and market for people with ni musical talent to make them feel they are making music..specificvally for EDM and hip hop...its not offensive to say that..Ive been using DAWS since their early inception..and I used Frutiy Looks (now FL Studio ) when it came out in 1997.. Composer arrangers and REAL musicians do not use Fl Studio or Ableton because they are too limited music wise...nothing for YOU to get emotional about..there is just a difference
I'm so sorry you went through that frustration and pain, but THANK YOU for posting this. It truly does help to see (not only know, but see) that even people as talented and skilled as yourself face the same issues and hardships the rest of us face. I'm not yet in my dream job of making sounds/music, but even with a completely different background, I find your videos to be immensely helpful and inspirational. I wish you the best and I sincerely hope you keep making these types of videos. Your music is amazing and these videos are equally amazing.
I really enjoy hearing your take on the whole creative process/creative life. You put such a lot of thought into these videos. I always go away with plenty to think about and quite often, there are things that are applicable to other aspects of life too. That kind of intellect shared for the benefit of others is gold dust - thank you!
Great video and amazing advice! Thanks for this. Also fyi it’s test your “mettle”, but I love the idea of letting your metal rust to make it shine again.
I scrolled past the Image-Line video in my feed and I thought it was strange to see you were using FL, since you never used it in a video. Then it all made sense when this video came after. FL is my DAW of choice, but I know how quirky it is after trying Ableton. It's not the easiest to understand and there's some things I don't like about it, but good work for going out of your comfort zone.
Aphorisms are helpful if they are not turned against ourselves. Pushing is good. Self abuse is not. I really liked the steps you outlined for the project. FLS is a great DAW for in the box and all around great sample-workbench. The shortcuts are obscure and powerful - so certainly frustrating. I still prefer Cubase for working with outboard gear, but still use FLS for idea & loop generation. Thanks for more inspiration.
I swear, as soon as you said "Sometimes the most powerful stuff has a learning curve, but that's how you get into the good shit" I got a Unison chord pack ad... The timing was just too beautiful!
Thanks! Definitely an uphill battle for me personally but such a good experience overall, learned so much in only a few days and learned a ton about my own creative workflow.
fl has a extremely frustrating early learning process but getting past it allows you to hold the entire world of music in your hands everyone fears burnout but on the other side of burnout is invincibility
@@Jimmyknapp2brilliant that's how I feel about my mpc live 2. She keeps hurting my feels refusing for me to make love to her but I just keep coming back to her selfish love ♥ THEE END!!
This is the program I use for my tracks, so yeah, I feel your pain. The first time I started using was so frustrating that I wanted to toss my computer overboard, but then as🤗 Keep using it, You will succeed in the end. And this is coming from an inexperienced music producer, by the way.
haha yah, i finally finished music theory courses and went into fl…I was like “man, and people think learning music theory is hard 🤣” but just like that subject itself, it’ll all click in eventually…although I may just take a premium paid course to speed up the time
Learning FL Studio is getting harder and harder the more previous experience in music production you have. I believe when an experienced non-FL producer goes to hell he is forced to produce with FL for eternity
@@Astrocicada the most amazing thing is that fl studio is the most convenient, the simplest, where all the icons when clicked give full access to everything and almost everything there has a vector interface and I sincerely feel sorry for those who use ableton
You CLEARLY continue to create some of the best music creation related videos anywhere on the 'net, but I must admit that I am interested in the emotional/psychological impact that this journey has had on your life and your willingness to share it and talk about it, because invariably I find myself sharing your pain in my own endeavors. This isn't easy, making music and sharing it with the world or creating it on demand for clients who know f***-all about music production, but I cannot imagine making my living any other way (other than my fine art paintings). Keep doing you, brother, and I'll keep watching, learning and empathizing (is that a word? Meh, it's the internet, I've seen worse).
Totally agree. The mindset discussion re: creativity is so on point. Have you tried listening to the 'Finish More Music' podcast? It's a goldmine on creative mindset.
@@richardridings7511 No, but I'll give it a listen. I'm pretty good at finishing music. Tomorrow (Monday 2-13-23) I turn in the music for my tenth album since 2010, to my label. More is better, though (as long as the quality remains).
Nice vid, It’s Mettle, though!?! The definition of the word mettle according to Webster's Dictionary is “vigor and strength of spirit or temperament; staying quality; stamina; quality of temperament or disposition.” The phrase “testing your mettle” usually refers to someone showing how resilient they are when faced with adversity
I switched to Ableton completely last week after using Logic Pro X for 4 years, I thought it would be a pain but to my surprise I got the hang of it in just a few days and now my workflow is like twice as fast and efficient.
@@ethanwimsett the biggest noticeable difference for me is that the plugin workflow is wayy more efficient in ableton, you can add a plugin/effect/whatever in less than 3 seconds by just doing CTRL + F and typing the plugin name, while in logic you have to navigate multiple dropdown menus to find what you’re looking for. Also tweaking parameters is far easier with ableton because basically every effect is “opened” up at all times in the bottom bar, also makes creating new automations far easier. Also the quality of the ableton stock and max for life plugins is really good. As someone that often has 4-10 effects on any sound, the workflow change is amazing
@@ethanwimsett Like all Daws, each have a workflow...And each daw can match your workflow... Not everyone plays, not everyone uses loops, not everyone writes to film etc.. Each to their own I say... Again.. Whatever works.
I think it's rad that you went out of your comfort zone! I really appreciate your videos and your goal of encouraging people to create - thanks! I personally love getting dropped in the middle of something that I know very little about and figuring things out along the way.
The fact that there is so much content on Fl Studio speaks volumes. People who don't even use FL are now trying FL for views because its the thing to do... it cracks me up. Fl gets a bad rap because of its beginnings. It has evolved into a powerhouse. Yet it still gets sh*t on, mainly because its workflow is so different from all the others. First impressions really can be lasting. It started out as pretty much a toy or a game and many think it still is.
I love FL. It took years to learn but its arguably the most powerful these days and its lifetime free updates. The thing is that theres multiple ways to do things and its not linear by default. It shines when you set up custom templates for yourself. The piano roll and channel rack are goated
Those 6 "basic steps" you defined are certainly useful to keep in mind! as you go through these "stages" in the creative process it's like closing one door behind you which can also give a sense of progress. I will try to keep these in mind as I go out there and .. Have always wanted to try FL Studio as well, as soon as it runs on my OS I will do just that.
I am reminded of my favourite demotivational poster from 25 years ago with the quote “if you can’t do something well, then learn to enjoy doing it badly.” These words have made my life much more interesting.
This had me chuckling at so many stages through the video. But on the serious side, it also highlights the many challenges we come across in our lives, not only testing our technical abilities but also our mental ones. Once again TOTAL RESPECT 🙏
im currently trying to learn fl studio myself coming from ableton just to push myself out of my comfort zone as well. love your content, you genuinely are making some of the most thought provoking videos for creatives ive come across. thank you for your art
As someone with a hard drive of ideas and very little finished projects, this is inspiring me to just sit down and dedicate a day to building something. I work in the creative fields as a photographer and animator and can complete projects for clients and things I dream up in those arenas, no problem. Music is a whole different beast. Some of the tracks I’ve made that were the best received were the ones where I sat down and just kept it simple, didn’t over think it and basically willed it into existence. It’s so easy to get lost in the details and the process that nothing ever gets done. I suffer from choice paralysis and falling down the sound design rabbit hole rather than keeping it higher level and refining it later. Thank you for your inspirational and “behind the curtains” content. It’s a good, grounded wake-up call that can be applied to many disciplines.
Pretty amazing video, man! It's not about FL Studio, it doesn't matter at all. It's about our creativity and our ability to do or to NOT do. Saying no to a project is so hard, but every once in a while saying YES is the most scary thing. Sometimes you learn from it and grow, sharpen that axe and rust that metal. Sometimes you are indeed a chimp trying to build a spaceship. This was very inspiring! Thank you! Extremely well built, honest and isightful.
Such a motivational video. Have been on the fence about getting in to making music as a hobby for a while. I think a lot of what has been holding me back has been a fear of being bad at it/fear of failure. This has pushed me over the edge and I'm just gonna do it. WISH ME LUCK
Bro you are one of the most real people out here, you are not afraid to show that you are human and can screw up to, and that you don't know every thing. I am one of those people that has 50, I started tacks but none done. I've had FL since FL4. but never really dove into it, so with the latest version I still don't know some of the basics of the DAW, all my fault with some life changes that did not help. I'm just glad there is some one else that sometimes feel the same frustration I do, but you don't stop . thank for you honesty and sharing what wisdom you do have.👏
Your metal is rusted. I watched the whole FL trailer vid. And knowing what you went through I am thoroughly impressed. I’ve never liked FL but I would link someone to your vid if they were interested in diving in. The water too is murky but your light shines from beneath it all! Thank you VT for your YT’s!
This is how I felt when I tried other daws as someone who's used FL for 15 years. Sometimes I feel like I could find new and interesting results if I tried something different but FL is my home
Hey you! Just wanted to let you know that vital video reeeeealllly helped me. Thank you so much man! Can’t wait to finish watching and sharing this one ❤❤❤❤❤
I love how much you care about attribution. I don't even know how to explain how happy it makes me to hear you attribute your quotes to Ben or your Dad or even a fictional Lincoln, but I just wanted to say thank you, it's very cool.
One thing to remember when using FL Studio ...SAVE !!! SAVE!!! SAVE!!!!!...You can enable autosave times so that when weird coincidences happen youll be able to recover or start from where u left off before your session crashed.
Went from Ableton live and been using it since 2012, jumped right into Cubase pro to mix for a client, and got the work done faster than ever, and was even happier with the results. Take the dive.
"delusional provocation of perseverance" Man, you sometimes just hit it so on the mark. I'm an academic (music is just something to do when I get free time, but much of my research does focus on motivation and perseverance), but I can't count the number of times that things you've said apply to my field as well. But this was definitely one of them! Thanks.
" because I just really love doing this stuff " ... ( from the trailer scoring video ) . Nice one Cameron! You have many skills 👍🏻 Thanks for this video.
Honestly I find this inspiring. To see someone who is so cracked at his craft be humbled by changing it up like this reminds us you're still human, and I respect very much that you're showing it online.
I just started learning music production with FL Studio from scratch. No experience with any DAW's before. I've been watching paid and free courses and tutorials. Everyone makes it seem easy even explaining every minute detail and here I am pulling my hair because I get lost a soon as I take my "second step". I've invested docens of hours so far learning everything I can and I'm still crawling like a toddler.
Cameron, I just added this video to my shortlist of favorite videos ever. And as for the final result, if ImageLine decided to put your video right beside a video made by a man with 20+ years of experience with FL Studio in their bundle page, I would say it was at the very least good enough. And considering it all led to this video here, I can safely say you made something (two things, actually) awesome. You did great, Cameron, and you made us proud. Thank you.
Yesterday, I was setting up to play a game for a bit when I started listening to this in the background. The message really resonated with me. I'm very much a beginner musician, and being keenly aware of it, frequently run into challenges to my skill. However, after listening, I felt inspired and encouraged. So, I saved my game file, closed it, and sat down to work. Several hours later, I finished a little remix, from start to finish. It's my first time doing something like that, and I’m actually quite pleased with the result. So, I decided to play the game I'd started earlier and chill until I'd get tired. It turned out, I had saved my file as the prompt that pushed me to begin: "Do Or Do Not". I am very happy to report: I did. Thank you for making this and sharing your insights.
This happened to me yesterday but with Reaper. Never used it before, had 48 hours to score a short film, and I decided to go with it because i could playback the video while recording midi (my first daw was LMMS, quite limited in that aspect). I had to learn a lot about the program in little time (fortunately it wasnt as unintuitive as i had feared) The main pressure was the time limit, and had to compromise a lot on constantly playing back my tracks to judge them. This made me just compose and compose to get the full, action-synced, leitmotif charged score that was required. I think it definitely could have ended up better with a day or two more, but after all... it is done, and honestly im proud i could pull it all off in just two days and with a daw i handt ever used properly before. That line you used about assessment "one last look, and do not look back" is exactly what i felt before rendering the mix. Metal tested.
FL studio is the second DAW I learned 3 years ago and it's the one I have stuck with. So I know how hard it is. I think what kept me going was the community.
No Cameron. You got me hooked on BitWig , and I endured such pain at the time with such Daw to the point that I now love the damn thing and consider myself and expert in it doing experimental sound composition and crazy MIdI and audio stuff . Plus I love the synth engine it comes with . I just cannot see myself switching to something like FL Studio. I miss your BitWig tips man . Much love though , keep the good videos flowing 😊
I love the attitude, love the spirit of testing your metal, love that you didn't give up, and the final result is awesome! Thank you for planting the seeds of growing as a person, as a creator. "go out and make my metal rust", I'm on my way~
Just watched the finished product and I have to say it's an amazing job. I would never in a million years guessed that you were new to FL Studio and the software bundle!
You are awesome man. Thank you for your information and life education experience that you share with us. I hope in the future to can afford to be your patreon too.
Really auspicious timing for me to be seeing this video … I’ve been learning a new daw myself and feeling a lot of these things, minus all of the time crunch, professional stress, and general existential angst … The message still resonates. Love your videos and your music. Thank you for being Venus Theory 🫡
I really find your videos motivational and insprational. For me it took a while to accept that i might not be as good others and maybe i'll never be professional But i can always strife to be better and improve. Thats one of my life philosophy. Like someone probably said "Always try to be a better version of yourself"
So I started in FL Studio, about the time you created this video. I keep on coming back to this video not for FL Studio, but the bit on creating the thing. I love that insight.
BRO! Simply humbling & Revealing listening to you fight the same battles and sharing your Feelings & Thoughts openly for all the Freelancers to realize that they too are not alone. I'm right in the middle of that crazy battle (Product Visualization) and have fought my way through learning 3 Brand New 3D Application... completed the round and ended up going for a totally different approach... Sometimes we just need to keep hitting until you've hit the right note! Thanks for sharing. 😉😉
In high school around 2007, me and a couple others in my ITV class all downloaded FLStudio on the computers and would see who could make the best beat every day. The best times!
Thank you for this video. I needed this, and I have the same problem. I'm learning FL studio as of a few weeks ago, and I know the struggle. This has changed my perception on learning it, and has inspired me to make something awesome.
When starting my journey a couple years ago, I chose FL solely based on the look and vibe of it to simplify my decision, and I haven’t been disappointed.
I used FL Studio for many years and still love it. I switched to Ableton like 4 years ago and must say I prefer the workflow, sample-handling, racking, GUI etc... but FLS will always have a place in my heart.
So, I still suck at FL Studio...but I'm getting there and damn Harmor and Sytrus are insanely fun.
Maybe I should finally get these Flex instruments going 😅

Drop me in Cubase and I won’t remember my own name! But it’s weird to realize that not everyone works the way you do…it boggles my mind when FL confuses others, but it’s because it’s my native tongue :)
My most recent armor test has been working on this album for a client who needed professional-sounding filmscore-y outros, and god that pushed me to the brink of hating the whole project. But we made it, and the label listen through went amazing and everyone’s happy.
Sometimes you gotta test yourself hard, whether it’s figuring out FL or writing a totally new style that you’re totally unfamiliar with.
Proud of you VT for pushing through and winning 🖤
Good ‘ol Fruity Loops
Venus Theory's demo video was really promising for me. I have FL Studio but I am using another DAW for scoring. I once used FL studio for scoring but there aren't many resources to help me make it work for scoring. I hope FL Studio continues to makes it more freindly for film composers. I'm gonna switch back to FL if it does.
@@angeldayao Have you checked out Alex Moukala? I love his stuffs. They are pretty helpful, I think.

Now that's a fine, strong last name you got there, sir. #kerrclan
thank you, he is my dad
Reaper, Ableton. FL Studio....tells a persons ability of musicality without really telling us
Yup, i used ableton and fl, and while ableton is pretty cool, i feel like you can do more stuff more easily in fl studio. A lot of "hidden" features that are super convenient
Also the zgame visualiser is a huge bonus

What a remarkably helpful, humble and human lesson from an artist with the heart of a teacher.
That’s a great experience and very inspiring. Just don’t keep the high part while producing. Been there for years and I really do not recommend
FYI: in case you didn’t already know this, one tests one’s mettle (not metal). Just trying to be helpful😀

Man I had to search for this, I was like “no way I’m the only one” 😭😭😭

Yea, I'm pretty sure he knows that. That's the point.
Classic millennial mistake
I just checked the FL Studio channel for your trailer and man, it’s really really great! You did a great job 👏

Yo the patch plugin for FL into reaper is AMAZING
Nice vid, It’s Mettle, though!?! The definition of the word mettle according to Webster's Dictionary is “vigor and strength of spirit or temperament; staying quality; stamina; quality of temperament or disposition.” The phrase “testing your mettle” usually refers to someone showing how resilient they are when faced with adversity

I switched to Ableton completely last week after using Logic Pro X for 4 years, I thought it would be a pain but to my surprise I got the hang of it in just a few days and now my workflow is like twice as fast and efficient.
yeah fl studio is just way different than anything else out there. most other conversions are likely easier
What features did you find quicker to use?

I think you have one of the most honest and down to earth channels about being a creative on the internet. Massive fan and wish you all the best.
I love FL. It took years to learn but its arguably the most powerful these days and its lifetime free updates. The thing is that theres multiple ways to do things and its not linear by default. It shines when you set up custom templates for yourself. The piano roll and channel rack are goated
Its good to see you trying it out!😊
Those 6 "basic steps" you defined are certainly useful to keep in mind! as you go through these "stages" in the creative process it's like closing one door behind you which can also give a sense of progress. I will try to keep these in mind as I go out there and ..

Motivation. Thank you for pushing yourself and sharing the frustrating process

Man, you sometimes just hit it so on the mark.
Seriously one of the best RUclips videos I've seen in a long while.
The video you made was one of those that convinced me to buy this bundle! You did a great job! :D
I love your insights and your ability to break things down into achievable steps. I felt your pain, having switched DAWs relatively recently. 😀
This happened to me yesterday but with Reaper. Never used it before, had 48 hours to score a short film, and I decided to go with it because i could playback the video while recording midi (my first daw was LMMS, quite limited in that aspect). I had to learn a lot about the program in little time (fortunately it wasnt as unintuitive as i had feared)
The main pressure was the time limit, and had to compromise a lot on constantly playing back my tracks to judge them.
Your channel is so underrated, keep making stuff man.
I use LMMS and Reaper. I tried FL studio and got totally stuck. Glad you could muddle through and complete your project.
Good stuff as always. You are very talented. Enjoy the copy on your stuff as much as the stuff!
Thanks for the wisdom bro. I really learn alot from your channel.
What a huge bouquet, a mid-summer fireworks of aphorisms :)
I appreciate the humble you anyway...
You are awesome man. Thank you for your information and life education experience that you share with us. I hope in the future to can afford to be your patreon too.
the daw doesnt really affect the final product too much. just the vsts you choose (and obviously your level of skill)
This is how I feel any time I try to learn ableshit. FL Studio user for past 15 years. 10:37 is pure gold. Nice video.
Disableton
Your dog was priceless on the intro!
So many gems in here, I needed this today.
When starting my journey a couple years ago, I chose FL solely based on the look and vibe of it to simplify my decision, and I haven’t been disappointed.
Dude… I needed this message… Thank you for sending it out!
I used FL Studio for many years and still love it. I switched to Ableton like 4 years ago and must say I prefer the workflow, sample-handling, racking, GUI etc... but FLS will always have a place in my heart.
