    I just replaced the boards on a 20' trailer. Now I'm thinking about doing this modification. Thanks for showing how it's done.

      So far no regrets. It did exactly what it was intended to do. Thanks for checking it out.

      Thanks for checking it out Johnny. We finally got to try this out last month with the low car (C5 Corvette and is lowered) and at first I was thinking I may have put too much dovetail in it but it turns out it works perfectly. I still have to employ a few other tricks to get the car on the trailer without dragging stuff elsewhere but that goes for any trailer you put corvette on to. I'm confident I could drive my samurai on and off of this trailer without the ramps like all the cool off road guys do.

    Question how did you figure out the space you have to cut in order to get the dove tail in the height needed?

    • @PNW_Car_Mods
      @PNW_Car_Mods  6 месяцев назад

      CAD. Cardboard Aided Design. Practice with cardboard that is the height of your frame rail making a pie cut in it until you get the desire drop you want. Don't overthink it. It really is simple math. Measure twice cut once.

  • @trialnterror
    @trialnterror 5 месяцев назад +1

    Did you pie cut so you had angles on both sides?

      I'm not quite sure what you are asking?

  • @brokenhrtinny

    Was 3 1/2in enough or do you wish you had gone to 4 1/2?

    • @PNW_Car_Mods
      @PNW_Car_Mods  Год назад +1

      Honestly it's still too early to tell. Now that winter is set in the trailer is parked. I have yet to try loading my corvette onto it. That will really be the deciding factor of if I should have went more or less. If you are just loading tractors, trucks, or jeeps you can really go as much of a drop as you want until you start dragging the trailer on the ground which was another factor in my comfort level to stop at 3.5 inches.

    What did you use for cutting the frame?

    • @PNW_Car_Mods
      @PNW_Car_Mods  4 месяца назад

      5 inch angle grinder with a thin cutoff disc. Very accurate over using torch or plasma cutter.

      @@PNW_Car_Mods hey man there is nothing wrong with using old tools. There's a reason those tools are that old and yet your still using them. The tools of today aren't bad but there not overly built like they used to be. More than half the tools in my garage are twice as old as I am.

      @@JackofAllTrades1 Patch panels usually aren't too bad to do with proper techniques. I much prefer to weld heavy steel though. It's super forgiving. My most hated thing to weld is exhaust tubing. Total pain in the ass. That being said I don't have any formal training either. We're almost there. 2k bored people out there lol.
