I appreciate the real time recap video. Watched it before doing my recap and your tips were very useful. I used your method of removing the old caps and it worked great. I damaged no pads at all. Thanks for taking the time making this video.
Nice, though long, lol. Also have to remember to watch which way you put the caps in and sometimes the screen printing can be wrong, so see what way the current cap is in place, unless of course, that's the cap that was in wrong in the first place. (Release you mentioned this at the end of the video, lol)
It only took me 3 times as long as it took you in your video but I am pleased to say that when I reinstalled the chassis it worked. Unfortunately it did not fix my problem of having a really dim monitor. Where would you recommend me looking at to some the dim monitor? I tried all the adjustments on the neckband and flyback. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide. Working on a ktn-2001.
Great. Sounds like the tube is weak. Not much you can do other than a rejuvenation. Chassis rebuild usually does not help with color/brightness issues.
Just recapped a k7000 with a desolder gun and did lift two pads. Nothing fatal thankfully, will try this method next time. Are there instances where you would use a desolder gun?
For large pads such as flyback pads or yoke pads but maybe that’s it. For PCBs, I’d use one for removing chips but I don’t like them for doing cap kits.
800F. Some of these monitors have quite thin and delicate pads and I’ve seen too many get damaged due to improper use of desoldering guns and irons not hot enough. Just my experience.
Hey Mike....I have a 27' CRT that the flyback went out on. There are no replacements available. Anywhere. I've looked for weeks. How do I determine if a replacement chassis will work for it??

50 mins of hold music... i prefer the singing and swearing ! Great to see this video
Always wondered about the lack of a desoldering gun. I couldn’t live without one. I do so many boards. Even use it for surface mount pad clean uo
Thank you Mike. Excellent video
