They don't ever seem that scary until you really think about it. It's the middle of the night and you're just about to climb into bed when suddenly you hear screaming from across the street and then that metal clanking sound sound getting closer farther and farther up the stairs, and you're cornered. And they are so tall and intimidating. I would be scared.
The best way to feel the true scariness of Dr Who monsters is imagine if it's you that is being terrorized or targeted, since most of them will kill anyone mercilessly or even senselessly
The cybermen in my eyes are absolutely way more terrifying than the daleks...daleks kill...cybermen literally strip away your flesh your emotions and put your brain in a metal suit of armour. The realistic, tortuous threat of the cybermen is so underrated
I think that they looked too cartoonish until season 7. In the 10th season we definetely see the process of "upgrading" step by step... I mean, we gradually see a human getting mutilated, we see the horror and not just a mechanic saw from a ps2 game.
The thing Is that unlike the daleks the cybermen have good intentions. I mean they just want to upgrande other races, so they can live better and make everyone equal.
+Severus Snape I didn't even notice the door thing in Dark Water because I was focused on the MASSIVE music cue. And then I was like, "I AM SO THICK!" because I knew the episode was about Cybermen but it took me a while to connect the dots. The season 8 finale reveal was amazing. The doctor wondering “who would harvest dead bodies”, then closes a double door with the 3W logo on them. This theme starts playing as you recognize the logo for what it actually is: the eye of a cyberman.
the cybermen have to by far be both my fave Doctor Who villain, and the villain I'm most scared of. wheras other races kill you, even if it hurts it'll be over at some point. the Cybermen just turn you into one of their own and you could last like that for centuries, not being able to see your true self without dying
Well at least your emotions get erased, it's not like you're trapped inside your own body like if you were possessed; you still have full control, just with different priorities to when you were human.
@@Iknowhowbadthisnameis8828 That’s a special case. Ms Hartigan had such a forceful personality that she was able to overpower the cyberman programming.
With a Dalek, it's quick. An extermination from a mile away, you might not even see or hear the Dalek, especially if it's flying, until it screams at you. But a Cyberman has to get close to you. Close enough to clamp it's hands onto your shoulders, wrench you onto your knees and slowly electrocute you. Even when they get arm guns, they have to get really close to use them.
This is one of the most iconic themes in the show, second to the opening theme itself. Even the Doctor's theme changes with each incarnation, but I'm pretty sure that so far every Cyberman episode in the 2005 series had some form of this soundtrack.
The interesting thing is that, in the first episode where we see the cyber men, they say, 'Resistance is futile." Ring any bells? The Borg were fashioned after the Cyberman idea, and then many other cyborgs sprung from the Borg idea.
I love the slight, almost whimsical notes that appear in the later half, invoking almost a sense of hope, only to be squashed out with those haunting, uniform, 6 notes.
It’s actually so depressing. These were the prime cybermen, they were improved ever so slightly around the pandorica with their voices changing and becoming more intense and threatening. But beyond that, they’ve gradually become more unrealistic and as a result they become less scary. They’re only scary when they could potentially be real.

Cyberman: We have 5 million cybermen, how many are you? Dalek: Four! Cyberman: You would destroy the cybermen with four daleks? Dalek: We would destroy the cybermen with one dalek!

"You need not fear. Cybermen will remove fear. Cybermen will remove sex and class and colour and creed. You will become identical, you will become like us."
Idk if I can put my finger on it properly but I think the reason this theme is so effective for me is that while it’s intimidating it sounds sad and tragic? It fits the cybermen brilliantly.
These fuckers would be terrifying. Think about it. At first they just used hands on force but then they adapted and learnt to use lasers. They're basically original animatronics since they covert you into one of their own so you become part of their hive-like mind. And feel nothing but continue living as a cold hard machine. But I will admit. Seeing them team up with the humans to fight the daleks was my favourite arc ever in any doctor who
This and the theme of the Daleks are my two favorite musical pieces in Doctor Who, honestly. The part of Army Of Ghosts where it transitions from Cybermen to Daleks, however? Absolute favorite moment. The absolutely unhinged music of the Daleks coming in to twist around the electrical perfection of the Cybermen? It is a gorgeous bit of music work.
Cybermen are scary as they could exist if we did become too dependent on machines. But there is also some moral areas too because without technology some people would die. So if you knew the cybermen would happen and you had the choice to stop it from happening would you? Even if perhaps before they go to far the technology would better the lives of others like people who lost or were even born without limbs? Would you stop it at the cost of stopping that too? These questions are why the cybermen to me are so fascinating.
I thought of a way the cybermen could become unstoppable GODS: upgrade and gain the ability to fly sooner. if that was done, the Doctor wouldn't have escaped the Parallel universe he crashed the TARDIS in. he used to fly it so well back in the Tennant era... (Tennant era = David Tennant as The Doctor)

Fred Hagen-Gates That is the modern cyberman, future cybermen can upgrade against practically anything, but daleks have almost never been destroyed. The only person who can seem to destroy a dalek would be the doctor, however, cybermen CAN upgrade against almost anything as seen in series 7. Daleks would always win though, they could always jump through time and come back with millions of daleks and completely destroy the cybermen.
The Daleks fought in the Time War. They would just erase those cybermen from history. Besides, all they really need is their massive hacking skills to bring down the Cyberman collective. Also, future humanity beat the future cybermen and they can't instantly upgrade themselves the way the cybermen can.
I hope they do, they were scary as all hell, and if they were less bulky but kept that more of a human like machine, with the visible hands, it would be awesome
Ghost Boy A being that can only move if not observed, and in a single touch can separate you from everyone you love. Any picture of it will become it, and looking in their eyes will slowly kill you. Yeah, that's not scary at all! he said sarcastically.
I can forsee beings like the Cybermen, The Borg, and even Darth Vader and General Grievous becoming real at the rate this society's technology advances (look at the progress we've made over the past 110 years alone in communication, weaponry, and even prosthetic limbs and artificial organs and pacemakers) possibly within the next couple of decades.

I prefer the old theme they had, like in Tomb of the Cybermen. It sounded so eerie, and emotionless while still building up tension.
Who else thinks the Tenth Planet Cybermen are the scariest and want them to come back?
I do noooot understand what you meeeaaan
Have you seen the classic episode The Tenth Planet?
On wait, you probably do understand XD, I think the longer e and a was a reference to them
Yeah, they should bring them back with a better voice
I hope they do, they were scary as all hell, and if they were less bulky but kept that more of a human like machine, with the visible hands, it would be awesome
It's so booming and industrial. Just like the Cybusmen!
Cybermen are the scariest enemy, I mean, daleks will kill you, but the Cybermen will turn you into one of them
Dragonball Z Abridged 38 brought me here.

Skin of metal and a body that never ages
H But also a body that never feels or develops. Permanent stagnation.
Everyone gangsta till the cybermen show up
I just love the footstep noises cybermen make. It's just so intimidating. Hope the new look cybermen will keep the walking noise.

The Tau would like a word with you.
abie pratama The Master: Space Kim Jong Un
Sofas at the ready.
They're not that scary, but it's a kind of tradition.
At least they're better than Weeping Angels.
I never hid behind a couch watching dr who, I'll hide behind the couch for the next series for the hell of it
Ghost Boy Are you implying the Weeping Angels are NOT scary? That's like saying a fish can't swim!
That's exactly what I'm implying.
That's exactly what I'm implying.
Ghost Boy A being that can only move if not observed, and in a single touch can separate you from everyone you love. Any picture of it will become it, and looking in their eyes will slowly kill you. Yeah, that's not scary at all! he said sarcastically.
I was listening to the music while reading your comment... Scared the hell out of me xD
Does anybody know who composed this?
He or she is BRILLIANT
He. Murray Gold.
