Nuns usually run and administer Catholic missions. There are 600,000 nuns around the world.
The Church operates more than 140,000 schools, 10,000 orphanages, 5,000 hospitals and some 16,000 health clinics.
Mother Teresa's "The Missionaries of Charity" are a religious Order distinguished for their work in the fringes with unimaginable individuals and places, with some 4,500 nuns in more than 133 countries, who in addition to the three vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, make a fourth vow of “free and heartfelt service to the poorest of the poor.”
They freely assume risks-even life-threatening ones. Their missions in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Haiti, and other countries torn by violence place these women in harm’s way every day....this is Christianity in action..

But thank God for shows like this, It make me feel not alone as if I have a larger community, and I super enjoy your show. And I am learning a lot. its not just educational its also fun to watch. Like really being curious about Catholicism.. Catholic fasting is hardly able to be called fasting at all imo. One meal and 2 snacks is lightweight. Many people only eat one meal per day and are healthy. I’ve found that I get more from fasting (for me) when I give up something that I need to struggle to abstain from. For me, limiting screen time, adding in additional prayer time, volunteering my time or skills, all give my fast days a bigger boost.

@@alimaloney218, I was shamed to read that our Orthodox (and Byzantine Catholic) brethren do serious fasting, with no meat, no dairy, no eggs, and no fish, wine or oil (except on certain Saturdays, Sundays and feasts like the Annunciation), Atop that, they either eat nothing at all some of their fast days (including Pure Monday, the start of their Lent, and Good Friday) or take but one meal of boiled vegetables with a bit of salt. (One Orthodox person on social media had told me, I admit, that the strict version of fasting as above is really done only by monks or nuns.)

Thank you so much for your show. As a convert to Catholicism (currently in RCIA) I understand these questions but to have it further explained was appreciated and informative. Thank you. Just to share: I had prayed several times weeks ago for guidance on choosing my confirmation Saint. I felt as if it wasn’t to be until 3 nights ago. I was in bed in the early hours and I heard a voice. That voice told me twice, Saint Helena. I had never heard that name and didn’t know what to make of it. At 5am I’m on my phone expecting to find out that no such Saint existed. Boy was I wrong. To actually have her choose me has been such a spiritual blessing. Praise the Lord. May God continue to bless this ministry.

I used to believe that Mary what the best biblical role model for women. Where as men had several role models to learn from. I now add too the above that men should humble themselves to Mary. The rosary is an excellent exercise to practice humility. Many men in the USA have feminine characteristics due to men being raised without the present of a strong male role model. Pray the rosary and be humble by a woman who has endured so much more with so much less than men living in the USA today.

As a Catholic we ask for the prayers of those who have led holy lives and are now in heaven. Why would you not ask them to pray as well? When you need prayer, you want all the help you can get! 🙏🙏🙏

One of the most difficult things about being catholic is accepting that nearly every person you know and/or love will burn in incomprehensible agony and terror for all eternity.
According to catholic teaching and the saintly accounts and apparitions, heaven is reserved for only a infinitesimal minority, as few as one or two in million with some going to purgatory and the VAST majority falling into hell. God being all knowing and powerful knows nearly all his children are burning in agony but will never free them despite his ability to do so. They will endure this for all eternity, FOREVER, in this state of pure agony and terror.
Nearly every you know. Your parents, family, friends, children will endure this fate.
And even if you make it to heaven, you will have to live forever in paradise with the knowledge that nearly all those whom you loved are burning in agony and terror FOREVER.
They are burning in the same lake of fire if they raped and murdered children or if they had sex with their life long wife before marriage and never made a good confession.
But the fact that most people who ever lived, are living or will live will burn forever in hell is ultimately Gods will as he exists beyond space and time and knew this would be the final reality and ultimately nothing happens without him allowing it, so be it.

Catholics in Poland do worship Mary...Your terminology about praying "through Mary" or "to Mary" is a word play. So you are praying to Mary to ask her to go to God/Jesus. I know you don't believe in sola scriptura, but Mary isn't an intercessor, biblically. The Bible is clear that there is one mediator between man and God--Jesus Christ.

My friends thought I was Catholic because no one knows what Anglican is. Was asked "wait. What's that?" by a fellow RCIA member. I guess I took it for granted as a child and thought every christian understood it! I was shocked when a non denominational friend of mine told me I "couldn't" do that. The other day, I heard Fr. Gregory Pine speaking about the whole "Prayer to the Saints" debate, and he mentioned something that really struck me.
    (I'm paraphrasing here.)
If Protestants understood what the Eucharist means for us, they would *never* be able to accuse us of worshipping anything other than God; because, whereas the Eucharist is "the source and summit of *our* faith," they can only go so far as to throw their hands in the air and ask for things or give praise and gratitude with poopy acoustic guitar music, or whatever. That is *their* highest form of worship, so naturally, they see us asking the Saints for intercession and *think* it's the highest form of worship only because it is the highest form *of which they are capable.*
When the celebration of the Eucharist, the *highest possible form* of praise, is reserved for God and God alone, then we can properly see the light of Christ reflected in all of His creation - through Mary, through the Saints, through the Papacy and the Magisterium, through Apostolic succession. Our faith is so much more than whatever that other stuff is *precisely because* we reserve for our Lord an entire level of worship that Protestants don't even bother to access.
When Fr. Pine was speaking about this, far more eloquently than I can, in that quintessentially Dominican way, I just couldn't help but feel equal parts gratification, clarification, and pity.

They even Feed people during the pandemic (we had one of the longest quarentines in the world, and many parents of our kids couldent work cause of it).

Praying with saints in general follows the advice of Jesus that "when two or more gather" that one's prayers will be granted. So that's regular saints, and people would have an affinity for one saint or another according to the person's personality and experiences. But Mary goes beyond this level, because she can initiate her intercession, as she did at the Wedding of Cana. She saw a problem and intervened to solve it, even though she wasn't asked. Even though the people at the wedding probably weren't even believers yet because Jesus had not yet revealed his ministry on earth. So Mary's intercession goes above and beyond. It's for this reason that I changed the way I pray the rosary from "Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us..." to "Holy Mary, Mother of God, thank you for praying for us..."

I’m not sure what Catholic churches you went to, but those I’ve been do definitely have adult bible studies! Not always at convenient times because it’s dependent on schedules/availability of resources & volunteers, but there’s always a weekly meeting at some time. And the priests at mass also encourage us to read our bibles at home. Perhaps the churches you’ve been to just don’t have enough resources or don’t advertise those activities as well, which is unfortunate. (I find adult bible study times are usually posted briefly somewhere in the bulletin, but in other churches can sometimes just be on a flyer in the parish hall.) I have also noticed, however, that many of the Catholic churches in the big cities (like near where I was raised) don’t advertise bible study as much, probably because they already find it hard to compete for people’s time & attention just to get them to attend mass (let alone an extra study hour) as opposed to all the other distractions of city life. That said, I do agree that the Catholic church in general needs to do a better job of advertising bible study!

Western catholics have more attendance in catechism because they're 'forced' to go in order to make those sacraments. How do you get the youth to motivate themselves to continue coming back to church every Sunday, go to catechism to learn about their faith and not be led astray by other faiths.

I'm catholic. I once dated a guy that went to a non-denominational evangelical church. (I figured, well, they worship the same God i do so why not) I used to go with him and his family every Sunday. The people were nice and welcoming. The thing that bothered me was all the yelling and shouting the pastor did while he was reading the Bible. If he saw people in the pews looking sleepy or bored, he would slam his Bible on the table. That really bothered me. I begin to feel like i didnt belong. I didnt like all that noise. They had too many activities going on. Including a program to convert people who were gay back to their gender. That was weird,?I'd say what church this is, but its a wealthy mega church. You know the ones that look like a mansion. Anyways, i noticed they were always asking for money. The basket would go around probably 5 times during the service. After every service in the lobby their were the pastors books, videos, CDs, trinkets, christain book for kids, you name,it,. This pastor was more like a celebrity. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was when i started to read in-between the lines of his sermons. He talked negatively about other religions. In his sermon he talked about different religions, about worshipping God and not statues. He openly judged other faiths.. I knew exactly what faith he was referring to. I left that church and never look back. Mind you this pastor lives in a mansion . His explanation for that was that God was blessings him with wealth for spreading the word of God. I ran back to the catholic church where i belonged.
I'll never forget the time i went with his family to a Kenneth copeland convention. Scared me to death. There was a moment he was talking about the holy ghost filled w laughter. All of a sudden everyone started laughing? The whole place. It was like they were in a trans.. It was weird. Then they started speaking in tougues. I told my boyfriend i got to get out of here. I didnt like it.

We are, to some of these people, real outcasts or cult like to them. I don't think they are being mean just to be mean, but are so uneducated on Catholicism that their perception is very jaded, and totally wrong. Worshipping the Virgin Mary is a big one for them. Full immersion (Baptism) seems to be a hang up as well. Honestly, until recently, I never knew other Christians felt this way towards Catholics.

Confirmation,I believe , although a different sacrament is what many Protestant faiths consider Baptism. My daughter in the ‘70s made her 1st Communion a year before her first confession. She has no connection about the need to be sin free when approaching the Blessed Sacrament. When I questioned that practice I was told I was “old fashioned”. So glad the Church has changed this practice. Catechesis during the 70s was horrible and my children do not know the faith and do not practice.😢

I like the way it is now. Baptism at birth. Confession and Communion around 2nd grade. Confirmation in high school. If the rebellious kids leave, then we haven't done our job imparting the faith to them. What we need is better formation and catechesis. Confirmation at 13 or 14 harkens to notion of entering manhood (or womanhood), and it gives us an easy out when arguing with those idiot Baptists who can't wrap their heads around the notion of infant Baptism. "That's what Confirmation is for!" It's a whole process of growing in Jesus Christ. We should experience it as such. I'm glad that I was old enough to have such a meaningful experience of Confirmation, even though many (or most) of my class did in fact view it as more of a graduation ceremony. To be honest, I don't think you should be Confirmed until you're capable of deciding for yourself.

Voluntary abstinence is surely more "meritorious" than an imposed discipline. Promote and encourage fasting or whatever by all means; removing the compulsion can have positive spin-offs

The problem is that most non-Catholics do not understand or believe that Mary is with Jesus in Heaven. They believe she is in the grave like all other humans until the last day.

      (1522 A.D.) Martin Luther:
"There can he no doubt that the Virgin Mary is in heaven. How it happened we do not know. And since the Holy Spirit has told us nothing about it, we can make of it no article of faith... It is enough to know that she lives in Christ."
(House sermon for Christmas (1533) and Against the Papacy of Rome (1545).
"It is a sweet and pious belief that the infusion of Mary’s soul was effected without original sin; so that in the very infusion of her soul she was also purified from original sin and adorned with God’s gifts, receiving a pure soul, infused by God; thus from the first moment she began to live she was free from all sin."
(Sermon, "On the Day of the Conception of the Mother of God", 1527)

Father, I had a dream about you randomly a few days ago. You were very afraid of a woman assuming you weren't faithful in your celibacy. Idk why but, all I can tell you is that God knows you are very pure at heart on that.

Jesus is a very busy guy… put it in Mary’s hands and she will deliver the message. (Maybe jumping the line🤷‍♀️) It just goes to show you “a woman gets the job done” wink wink😆
