I was born and raised catholic. Was "influenced" to become protestant at 23. I am 36 now and after spending time studying the scripture, I am now a returning catholic. I was young and relied on emotion but now I truly understand the one true faith. I am back home. Went to church last Sunday and my family was in tears and my priest friend was smiling. I am so happy to be back home. Great channel!

If you don’t like the line of clothes in a store for whatever reasons, don’t shop in that store. But don’t tell the manager to bring in an other line of clothes to suit you. Other people might like the clothes the store sells. Logical, no? Choose your own church, but don’t tell the chur to change.

@@kdz6501 Also, those same protestants can't tell you what happened after the apostles died and before King Henry VIII, King James, and Martin Luther broke away from the Church and decided what they wanted to believe. And, I seriously can't understand how Anglicans can follow the English monarch as the "pope" of their "religion." Who gave the English monarch the authority to be the head of their church? The Catholic Church doesn't claim the pope is the head of the Church. The pope is the visible head of the Church while Jesus Christ is the true head of the Church. And the pope is the Vicar of Christ. Who does the English monarch answer to?

I'm a Catholic in a healthcare facility. My roommate is studying to become a Jehovah Witness. I do have my job cut out just hearing the instruction side. Her instructor constantly quotes scripture. I notice the only quote what suits their lesson. Many times I'll asked where does it say that? And when I look it up in my Bible there is a little more to that scripture. It's been very interesting. The best part of this experience is that I am so much stronger in my faith and have been able to complete the second part of the scripture they omitted.

*Have you compared Rome's added tradition that DEATH entered the world by the Woman/Eve (no Biblical verses), VERSUS -- the Apostle teaching in Romans 5:12 that Death entered in the world by ONE MAN/Adam ??* Maybe you are being a little hypocritical by saying JW's are "omitting scripture" when Rome does the same thing. *Like when Rome IGNORES John 19:25 when quoting verses 26-27.... WHY ?? cuz verse 25 proves that Jesus was NOT making Mary the mother of ALL believers since Jesus didn't tell ALL of the believers at the foot of his cross that Mary was THEIR mother.*

Growing up, I received the child's level of the Catechism. And I thought I understood the teachings of the Church. And I abandoned the Church because I really did not understand it. I left the Church for about 20 years. At the age of 40 or 41, I began to study the adult version of the Catechism and began to see so much of what I had missed. It takes a lot of work to learn what the Church really teaches. You just must not be lazy and reach out to study the many sources of the truth. This is such a beautiful religion and we must not be swayed by heresies of protestantism.

It's a means for us to show reverence and affection for what they commemorate. It's similar to looking gleefully at photos of your parents, family members, and friends who have past. It helps focus your reflection and gives a visual queue as you try to be in their presence. Thanks for another enlightening episode.

They'd rather just be stupid and mean, attacking our religion. I love the Catholic faith with all of its traditions. It's not like some churches I've been in where it's more like a social event, with people talking and seeing who can out fashion the other one. Plus, where there is no quiet showing quite reverence to our Father. It is a time for people to pray There is no altar with a crucifix to remind us that the Eucharist is the actual body of Christ.

I think it would be a good addition knowing that 70% of Catholics don’t believe in true presence. I’m not sure how licit the addition would be or the administrative process of doing it, but in the event that it is added, I would be glad. It would remind every single Catholic about the True Presence every time they recite it.

That is a lie from the snake pit. Sorry, but no true Christian worships the Bible. We are worshipping the one the Bible proclaims as our LORD. It would really help if you Catholics would stop claiming "sola Scriptura" when we show through the Scriptures that your doctrines are in error. That is one of the top 10 my list of 10 Things Christians are tired of hearing! Because we know the Scriptures are there for doctrine, reproof, correction........IT STATES AS MUCH. And if Catholics would take the time to actually read it and not have it filtered through the papacy, they might know this truth........When we see many Catholics who take a knee before statues of Mary and claim they pray to her, this is exactly why you are all accused of worship of her! Don't you get that? PRAYER is one of the HIGHEST forms of WORSHIP that there is! Not once in all the gospels (teachings of Jesus or the apostles) is anybody told to pray to Mary! NEVER! Yet, Catholics do this consistently. I am not trying to be mean. I am pointing out some FACTS that you do not seem to address!

    • @SecondBestMom
      @SecondBestMom 4 года назад +18

The problem is that most protestants read the bible through their own filters as well. We point to scripture to support our beliefs and get told "no, that's not what that means!". Says who? Who's authority do you interpret scripture with? " the holy spirit ". Well everyone claims that and you get different interpretations so clearly you need some form of authority to declare what is the correct interpretation. As far as kneeling goes, if you kneel by your bed at night to say your prayers are you worshiping your bed? No. Kneeling is a physical way to lower ourselves as we enter into prayer before our Lord. Just because we kneel in front of a statue does not mean we worship it. Yes, prayer is a form of worship, but not all prayer is worship. If I pray to ask for something, that is petition, not worship. And that is all we ever do when we pray to Mary or the saints. We ask them to pray to God on our behalf. Just as I would ask you to pray for me. We do not expect Mary or the saints to provide what we ask as they can not, but they can go to God for us, and they are there with Him in heaven!

Physical healing comes from the stripes of Jesus on the cross -- 1Peter **2:24** (Isaiah 53:4-5) -- combined with our FAITH (Matthew 9:21-22,29) -- not from physically eating the leavened bread/wine.* Miracles take place because of the power of the Holy Spirit that indwells each true Christian -- John 14:10,12,16-17.
Jesus made it clear that whatever you physically consume, just becomes physical shite in the toilet -- Matthew 15:17 -- if what you physically consume can not make you defiled/impure, then what you physically consume can't make you pure/connected to Jesus -- *true Believers are ONE with Jesus because we are INDWELLED by Jesus -- John 14:23, John 17:21,23 -- not because we consume the physical leavened bread and wine.*

Gia C so are they graven images that your mother is saying the rosary in front of on her knees ?where is the rosary in the Bible? I’m talking about the original text ,the king James ,not the Catholic Bible ,that has not only been translated but has been re-interpreted .there are many translations of the king James for example from Hebrew to English ,from Hebrew to Italian ,from Hebrew to Portuguese, from Hebrew to Japanese, that’s a translation. It is the interpretation from the king James that is incorrect. Where in the Bible do we pray to Mary? Where do we pray to any of the saints? Mary is without sin? Then why did she call Jesus her Savior? Where does saying repetitious prayer over and over forgive sin? When the pope says it is a dangerous thing to have a relationship with Jesus Christ, is this true? How many Catholic doctrines are there? why isn’t everybody in the catholic church of same mind like the Bible says we are to be? I have 1 million questions. God is not interested in the name of a people, because if you make it into hell the name will burn off ,if you make it into heaven it will drop off, the name Catholic means nothing ,just like the name Penecostal ,just like the name Baptist ,it simply states a belief ,and if it doesn’t line up with the word of God it is false. You cannot have 99% truth and 1% false .A Christian is Christ like when he has the Spirit of God in him Born again ,and he is keeping in step with the Holy Ghost, we are saved by grace through faith alone, we do good works because we are saved ,and we are called to do them, and it is the Lord himself who has created these works for us to do before the foundation of the world. A Confirmation, A retreat, cresia , saying a Vow, does not make you Christian and it does not secure your place in heaven. Why do you crucify Jesus over and over thinking that he comes down into a wafer of bread every time you have mass ,show me where that is in the word of God, that is not the Lords supper ,and many who do this unworthily because of their sinful lifestyle, die, and plunge straight to hell. The Lord does not except your incense he does not except your rituals he does not except your prayers to mary and to the Saints ,he does not except your graven images in these churches and on your front lawn, you do these things because you worship the unknown God as Paul described, meaning you do not know him ,you think that you’re doing all these things to please him and you cannot please him with any of your good works.

    • @warmmocha2555
      @warmmocha2555 5 лет назад +22

james wells I wish to impart things with you of things you might not have even heard of. You have a lot of questions, but first, I beg you to first let go of your prejudices against the Church. If you are truly seeking for the Truth, you should hear both sides of the story (fairly). It looks like most of your questions are recycled protestant misconceptions. It’s hard to answer every single one of your questions here. But, why don’t you start with a clean plate?
Suppose, you’re searching for the One True Church of Jesus Christ today? He only wanted One Church, not many churches with opposing interpretations. Let’s get that one thing straight. Now, it only make sense to go back into history, correct? Ask things like, what was the early christianity like? What did the Apostles, disciples, early church fathers believe? Were they Catholic or protestant? Did the Apostles really have traditions? If so, what traditions did they spoke of? It only make sense to go back and learn what the Apostles, disciples, church fathers believe because they are the ones who lived closely with Our Lord. A former Anglican who became a cardinal named John Henry Newman said, “to be deep in history is to cease to be a protestant.”
The Catholic Church is the only church who can trace their successors to the Apostles. The first pope of the Church is St. Peter.
But did you know that the 2nd and 4th pope of the Church, Pope Linus and Pope Clement, are mentioned in the bible? 2 Timothy 4:21 and Phil. 4:2-3, respectively.
Also take a look at what the early Church Fathers think of the Church.
St. Ignatius of Antioch, Letter to the Smyrneans 8:2, 107 AD
“Let no one do anything of concern to the Church without the bishop. Let that be considered a valid Eucharist, which is celebrated by the bishop or by one whom he ordains [i.e., a presbyter]. Wherever the bishop appears, let the people be there, just as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church.”
Then, St. Cyprian of Carthage, Letter of Cyprian to All His People 43 (40), 5, 251 AD
“They who have not peace themselves now offer peace to others. They who have withdrawn from the Church promise to lead back and to recall the lapsed to the Church. There is one God and one Christ, and one Church, and one Chair founded on Peter by the word of the Lord. It is not possible to set up another altar or for there to be another priesthood besides that one altar and that one priesthood. Whoever has gathered elsewhere is scattering.”
Another thing, the Bible didn’t just miraculously appear out of nowhere and Jesus didn’t tell His Apostles, “and by the way, this is a Bible, read it and share it to the world.” The Apostles didn’t even know what a “Bible” is at that time. They didn’t gather together and say, “okay let’s go out and make a bible.”

Warm Mocha I have a daughter and two grandchildren being baptized in the Catholic Church this evening at 8 o’clock. I know the complete history though I have not been in the Catholic Church since I was a teenager, very little has changed ,and I know the history of Catholicism and where it began ,and it certainly did not begin with Peter. Hundreds of thousands of people lost their lives when anyone preached against the Catholic theology, that is not the church of Jesus Christ, because the true church would never ever do that , not even to Muslims much less anyone else. Now either they are listening to the pope as if he was a person to go through as if God spoke to the pope only ,of the which there’s no truth in that ,but we have to go by what the pope is saying ,and what the pope is doing that is against the word of God it’s self .I do not hate these people ,as I do not hate anyone ,I simply know the deception. that is there today .will there be people in heaven from the Catholic Church? yes. Thank you for your comment. But these guys think I’m a devil, but one day they will remember me and the things that I said , that if they don’t come through Jesus alone for their salvation, they will not enter in , you can’t even pray one prayer to Mary or any of the Saints , it’s enough for rejection in the eyes of the Lord .for it is by grace through faith alone. We’re not to live like the devil of course but it is still by the finished work of the cross ,by the blood of Jesus only ,not anything we can do to get us into heaven, it’s what we receive, and that is forgiveness for our sins, no man on the earth can forgive sins, there’s no purgatory. Our decision is final here ,we either receive Jesus or we reject him , we can’t add things to the work on the cross ,and if we do that ?if anyone does that ?they will not enter into God‘s kingdom. What’s with the little statues on their desk ?the little figurines that God hates supremely ?that is against the word of God in itself ,and it’s open for anyone to see that knows what the word of God says. Confession, communion ,confirmation ,these are all ceremonies that God is displeased with. Even Catholics that I talk to are against these things. The word of God says we are to be of one mind and one accord, The Catholic Church has hundreds of different bodies in it ,some agreeing ,some disagreeing ,nobody’s on the same page ,some people know the pope is just a man ,some people believe he is actually ago between God and man ,and he is not, there is only one mediator between God and man, and that is Jesus Christ ,that is what the Bible says. Why is the Catholic Church constantly changing and reforming? Even the true church right now is in trouble. But God is going to shake the earth is shaking is coming from him and only the true believers will be standing when it’s over. That means only those who have an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ are going to stand, those who have religion ,legalism ,and ceremonies, and working for their salvation ,working for their entrance into heaven, Will fall at once ,and fear will grip them, you don’t have to take my word for it ,you will witness it ,just hang on ,because it’s coming. I’m pretty sure you have felt for a long time ,something terrible is about to hit the earth. God loves the Catholic people so much ,he does not love the true church any more or any less then them, he wants everyone to come to him in repentance. In so much that when the church is rapture out ?God is still going to give people opportunity to come to him in repentance. All the way up to the end.

james wells I don’t think you see the full story, I’ve seen these same claims all over, mostly from Anti-Catholic websites, youtube videos, etc. Everyone wants a personal Jesus, they don’t want to hear about the biblical Jesus. Jesus set One Church and there are traditions. Traditions the Apostles passed along to the next successor. I thought you were honestly seeking for the Truth, but it’s obvious your mind was already set even before asking those questions.
Btw, there is a difference between venerating, honoring, and loving the Blessed Virgin Mary, to “worshipping.” Worship is only designated to God alone.

I grew up in St. Luke’s Parish in Irving, Texas where there are a lot of Catholics but have lived in east Texas since 1979. It was a shock because where I moved to in 1979 that there were so many fewer Catholics AND it is considered to be the “east Texas Bible Belt” where there are so many more Protestants then there are any other religions. In fact, I don’t think I have met any Jewish people since I moved to east Texas in 1979. My OB/GYN for over 32 years was in Dallas and was Jewish…bless his heart…he died in 1999 from colon cancer and he delivered 6 of my 7 children at St. Paul Hospital, the Catholic hospital, in Dallas even though I lived in east Texas. East Texas used to be part of the Dallas Diocese but has been it’s own dioceses for probably 20 years now. I am not a fan of change and, if it were left up to me would go back to the old Latin mass that I grew up with….so, I am perfectly happy with the Apostles’ Creed staying just like it is. I have heard that old thing about Catholics worshipping statues…..so stupid. How many times I have tried to explain why we might have pictures or statues that we “think” about as we pray. What is wrong with that? Protestants need to realize that, especially in England, Henry the VIII changed the Bible to suit himself. Very interesting panel, guys….and Father.

Thank you for sharing the beautiful quote from Saint JP II. It is so appropriate in this era to know the true intetrelationship between science and faith. We can meditate on the depths of wisdom in that statement.
I believe that this is the greatest challenge of the current generation. So many people consider themselves atheists or agnostics because they don't realize that the physical truths of science , are actually a reflection of God's world, and in no way incompatible with faith. We need to witness this message of Saint JP2 to the world. Mankind is on the verge of so much new technology, especially concerning bioethics. It is imperative that mankind understands JP2's messages on the inherent dignity of each person...and how these inspired insights are not opposed to scientific truths. knowledge, nor continued research and understanding of the natural world .
Also thank you Ryan S. for pointing out this should be/is a shared point of reason between the monotheistic religions: Jewish. Islam, Christian. I wonder if the reason the Protestants think we worship Mary has its root in how we define worship? A Protestant service of praise and worship is very different from the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. perhaps if the were to understand the Mass they would see the demarcation between veneration and worship?

Kissing or touching statues to receive special blessings transmitted through the statues, kneeling or bowing to statues to demonstrate respect/reverence for them is not idolatry?

    • @willowlane9236
      @willowlane9236 4 года назад

Hi Cliff, you might find it helpful to ask about the perception you have on the role of statues in Catholic life on either / both of the following live call-in shows. They are very knowledgeable and hold to the orthodoxy of the Catholic faith.
Catholic Answers Live: Weekdays, 6-8 pm Eastern (3-4 PM Pacific) "on over 360 AM and FM stations in the United States, Sirius Satellite Radio channel 130, and through the Internet at catholic.com, RUclips, Facebook, and Periscope." The link to their topic schedule: www.catholic.com/audio/cal .
Called To Communion: The host, Dr. David Anders, has a PhD in Reformation Theology. He's a convert to Catholicism. Show times: weekdays, 2 pm Eastern (North America) on the EWTN YT channel; or listen on the EWTN app for Android or Apple.
Catholic beliefs and practices don't go against Scripture, but they often go against the misperceptions many people have.

You don't get a special blessing from touching a statue. Any respect you show is for the person represented by the statue. Jesus became incarnate out of respect for our physical nature. Statues also respect that and enable us to come closer to the spiritual God through our bodies.

Would you not show respect for relatives ? All the statues are a depiction of our huge Christian family . They were on earth at one time just as I am now. They struggled just as I do. They all served our Lord Jesus Christ. We are all at the foot of the cross , grateful that Jesus suffered a horrid
Physical death on the cross so we would know eternal salvation. The word idolatry is tossed around and Satan uses that word to accuse Catholics. Satan despises God's family and the miracle of the Eucharist . We have been under attack for more than 2,000 years.
But we prevail. Satan hates that very much . When people tell me I am not Christian , because I am Catholic I used to use apologetics to educate them . I am 75 now . I no longer
Expend energy apologizing to those who attack me. I pray for them. To those who tell me I am not saved because I am Catholic , I know this.
They , nor anyone I know on earth , is going to sacrifice themselves on the cross for me . They are not God , and do not hold the final disposition of my soul in their hands . They are not my judge ! The greatest Paraclete
Is my savior ! I am marked for salvation and Jesus defends me against Satan the prosecutor .

I think it’s a very deep & important Thing to suggest; Jesus is truly present in The Holy Eucharist. So many Catholics are not aware of this. We also need to Say the Nicene Creed on Sundays. It’s my understanding that this is a requirement that we recite this on Sundays. I only wish that we would say this Credo reverently, bowing at the appropriate moments. God bless and guide you all. As a teenager I started to do research on the history of Christianity. The SECULAR version of Christian history. What I concluded was that the Roman Catholic Church was indeed the church that was founded at the direction of our Lord Jesus Christ. Then I started to study Catholicism, and what I discovered was a beautiful and emotionally satisfying religion with a rich history and culture of it's own. I converted when I turned 18. I like the Apostles Creed more it contain the 12 main beliefs of all Catholics. 1. I believe in God the Father Almighty Creator of heaven and earth 2. in Jesus Christ his only son our Lord. 3. Was concieved by the Holy Spirit born of the Virgin Mary. 4. Suffered under Pontius Pilate crucified, died and was buried 5. Descended into hell; on the third day he rose from the dead 6. He ascended into heaven and 7. seats at the right hand of God the Father almighty 8. From there he will come to jugde the living and dead.
      9. I believe in the Holy Spirit
      10. the Holy Catholic Church
      11. (Sacraments) the communion of saint the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting . 12 Amen
The nicene creed is an explaination of the apostles creed. I thought the Vat2/Pope/Church had done away with the Apostles creed.

Dear Friends in the Church, I only discovered your podcast earlier this year. In fact, I wrote a response to your segment on film portrayals of Jesus. (Max Von Sydow was my personal choice.)
Regarding things that Catholics hate to hear, may I offer a suggestion for a future podcast? (Apologies if you’ve covered this already!) This Catholic is tired of today’s media narrative that Pope Pius XII did nothing to help Jews during the Holocaust. Plenty of evidence has been revealed over the years indicating the opposite - that he was responsible for saving as many as 860,000 Jews! Pius was widely praised during the war, and upon his passing in 1958. But today, painting him as a villain has become the norm.
Our Church must bear its share of blame. It is past time for Catholic leaders to carry a unified message to the world media and the community at large: Pope Pius XII is a genuine Catholic hero. And it is a disgrace that, in the face of opposition from outside the Church, Pius has not been made a saint, 65 years after his death!
Keep up the good work, guys!

When Jesus went to a mountain with some of the apostles. The transfiguration happend where two other men were with him. Jesus did not tell his apostles that they are going to meet two other men and even mentioned their identities. But the apostles recognized these men even they were born generations before them, that it was Elijah and Moses whom Jesus were talking to. It was not mentioned that Jesus introduced them to his apostles or they were wearing a sash that would giveaway their identities. So probably there were statues that was built or paintings made to commemorate them. That there face will be recognized once they appear. Thank you brothers for defending our faith, the one true church built by Jesus Christ.

    Hey recently subscribed here.
I am a Christian with a RC background and a currently Pentecostal expression I live out. I have 100% sympathy with the things we are sick of hearing! People I worship with and fellowship with often have so many false notions about Catholics and Catholicism. I do know that there are quite a few Catholic (nominally) people who don't actually understand their own present opportunity to be in Christ, and who will happily perpetrate these same falsehoods. I would totally love it if for the points you have brought up here you would use the comments or the pin to share some links for the documentary references that you spoke about. It might seem lazy to ask you for for it, but I think it could help to support my arguments when I speak back at these things! Thanks for this show.
