- Thousands of New Zealanders have attended a Muslim call to prayer in Christchurch, marking one week since a gunman killed 50 people in a terror attack on two mosques in the city.
The prayers were held at a park opposite the Al Noor mosque, which was a target of the shootings. It comes a day after the government announced a plan to ban semi-automatic and military-style weapons by next month. An Australian 28 year old has been charged with one murder following the Christchurch attack. Police have said further charges will follow.

He was able to find hope and peace with religion as it gave him the ability to persevere. There is no doubt in my mind that he is in a better place. We are all brothers and sisters in humanity. I think the NRA's attempts to interfere in New Zealand may have actually motivated the NZL government to speed up the announcement of the ban. Their attempts went down like cold sick with most people here.
