4:34 "For those who are used to the Americanized way of tacos, it may feel a little bland"... In SD we're used to Mexicanized way of tacos, and yes, we've tried those tacos. They are too bland. They could not compete in Tijuana. Compared to the Taco Stand, they're night and day. LCM is overhyped.
I felt like the meat wasn't very well seasoned but obviously the tortillas are delicious. My favorite spot is Antojos del Tepeyac, handmade tortillas and gorditas. All the guisados are incredible. You gotta get some gorditas there.

Pro tip: San Diego is known for California Burritos, but you do not get a burrito at Las Cuatro Milpas. Get the tacos or taquitos, and then rice, beans, tamales con huevos. The tortillas are the star of the show here, and they're already rich and heavy. IMHO, it doesn't help when you choose the heaviest thing on the menu, which, anecdotally, also is the least popular.
I agree the tortillas were amazing! Probably best enjoyed in its purity with the chorizo as you mention. Think we wanted to try everything on the menu. Thanks for the pro tip!
Why was that one girl in the background blurred out....... but then in the end you can see her face? Did you just got tired of blurring it out and said, 'screw it'? LOL.
I would not think of San Diego Mexican places as being good or bad because they are not authentic. Even tacos el gordo is really not authentic because they do fries. Which really isn’t a thing in Mexico. That being said Cantina Mayhuel in normal heights for carne asada and Earth’s best marg. Oscars for fish tacos, ceviche, and California burritos in Kearny Mesa for the best Cali burrito in town. Javier’s for the best fancy Mexican. The food is fantastic, their beans are amazing.
Cuatro milpas is soooooo bad, as far as "Mexican" food goes it doesn't get worse in quality than that spot. Tortillas are nice sure, but their proteins and beans and rice are soooo bad.
I’m actually very interested to hear this. I was honestly having some mixed feelings about the place. It seemed to have the reputation of THE MOST authentic spot and in some ways it was, but I agree there was nothing special, for example, with the pork. I also don’t have a clear expectation of what a good chorizo con huevos should be like, but it did feel rather bland.
@@hungrymonster42 it's authentic, if you grew up in extremely poor Mexican conditions. But all of these dishes can be cooked properly if you have the resources and knowledge to do so. This place is honestly fucking disgusting.
I agree with this comments...everytime I see review video or someone talking about it I must tell them its not how the original owners cooked, only the name lives.
Ed Fernandez Restaurant Birrieiria is a MUST!!!
I love Birria. That’s one dish I did not try this time. Definitely should check out!
So many great mexican food options in SD!
Glad I went to the right city😆
Tacos El Gordo
That would have been my next spot!
You been to Tijuana that’s like the old old old good spot lol
I really should when I get the chance
Quatro milpas is the best taco shop in San Diego. I've been going there for 40 years. I remember when the tacos we're 75 cents
40 years! Wow this place has history! Curious how they’ve changed over time
@hungrymonster42 The food is still the same.Great.The only thing that changed was the prices.
JVs off of moreno blvd.
Best Carnitas in San Diego
Nice.. will try next time 🐷🌮

I really want to try the Tijuana style tacos..
Have you tried old town San Diego? Old town Mexican Cafe.
Have not. What are they known for?
My favorites are Colimas on University Ave. And Los Ponchos on Washington Ave. Good Food, Great Salsa Bars 😋 🌮 🌯
Wow just searched Colimas- looks legit!!
Las Quatro Milpas is the bomb!
Glad I hit the spot!
You got the chorizo con huevo, my Dad's go to!
This was a new dish I’ve never tried. Really liked it! Hope I ate it the right way😂
Colima’s on University Avenue in North Park super food great prices nice atmosphere!
Awesome, thanks so much for the info!!
It's decent since it's close by to where I live. Opens pretty late which is a bonus

Wow the name sounds super authentic. Handmade is always the way. I need to look up what guisados are😂
@ basically the filling you choose to have inside a gordita, so carne asada, chicharron, etc.
I haven’t tried a real gordita. I need a lesson on Mexican food!
try Tacos Los Cholos in the OC area. get the fillet mignon tacos
Filet mignon!! Wow I MUST try those!
Let's open a taco shop where your from. How do you think it would do on the East Coast? I manage a taco shop. Enjoyed your video.
Thank you! What is your restaurant name? Might do well if it’s authentic 👍

Las Brasas has the best Chicken Tortilla Soup 🍲
Next time, try TACOS 🌮 EL GORDO... Yummy 😋
Everyone’s telling me about El Gordo!

Wow I think I just found the most authentic recommendations. That’s amazing that even SD is not the most authentic!
No
Highly doubt that's PARMESAN CHEESE😳. My guess would be Cotija.
That’s what I was looking for!🧀
Why don’t you just go to Mexico. Tijuana is walking distance from San Diego.
Maybe I should. It’s literally right there😂
@@ivannevarez8478 was easy in the past, now need passport
Quatro milpas is overrated
Name a good spot in SD then. I wanna know.
Yes I’d be curious to know a different spot as well!

😂
You stoopid, there tortilla alone kills your favorite spot. It’s the only Mexican spot that ain’t the same as the next
The Taco Stand is a Taco's el Gordo ripoff. That is the place you should have gone.
Everyone is talking about Taco’s el Gordo. Will def go next time!
