Hi Phil Caroline and Manky X we both really enjoyed watching your trip around Abergavenny X thank you for including Oliver's picture..it was a total surprise for him tonight ☺️ 😉
Hi both, great film and info about Abergavenny.regulars there for market and town centre.didn’t know about the oak carving of Jesse.will pop in to see the lovely church next time we are there.thanks Sue
First of all, a belated very happy birthday Caroline! Glad to share a moment of it it with you. Your birthday tea looked absolutely delicious! It's a shame there's no YouShare as well as RUclips! But anyway, hooray, another outing! It was a very soothing drive to get to Abergavenny and a fascinating visit. So much history and it really does give pause for thought that so many of our historic buildings are repurposed, but their story can still be told, no matter how many reincarnations they have. Even the Priory church, which clearly went through some terrible times, but still stands to tell its own story. Thanks once again for taking us all along!
Thank you Miss Merrily, yes, the tea was very tasty and we totally agree about the concept of a YouShare on the internet. 🍰😄😂 So glad you enjoyed the drive as well as the tour of Abergavenny town. It is a lovely place with so much history, we'll definitely be going back for another visit. And as you say, even if the buildings are repurposed they still stand so we can discover the stories they have to tell. Thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons That was a wee bit too much serendipity for me because as I was watching and you were in the church I was wondering if any of my ancient ancestors might have ever been in that church and just then at 14:23 you read a stone that said James Williams October 5, 1824, aged 31 druggist. I live in America so the tours you give are wonderful. And now a little supernatural.
New sub, watched this with my daughter, we had to keep stopping it to have a further look, lovely thank you. & she loved the panda popping up in various places hehe
Wow, that's great. Manky does love it when he has a new fan ✨🐼✨ Thanks for the Sub 🎉 hope you enjoy all the other videos we've made, there's even one from the day we found Manky Panda ✨🐼✨ 🤠😎
Very nice area to spend the day for your birthday Caroline. Happy Birthday 🎂🎉🎁🎊🎈 Caroline ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Nice history Phil hope you both had a wonderful time this day 💜💜💜💜💜
I loved the big posh houses at the beginning of the show, I bet they would cost a pretty penny to buy. Happy belated Birthday Caroline, we can be the same age for five months!
Another lovely video. We visited this town when we were in Wales visiting family. We had lunch in the pub near those wooden booths but cannot remember the name of the pub. Thanks for sharing Best wishes 👍⭐️😊 Mark and Julie
Hi Both, hope all's well with you. The pub next to the booths is The Kings Head which we mentioned, it's been there since the 17th century. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
Happy Birthday my friend! Sorry you were having a sneezing fit at the end there. I get it. Spring is when it starts for me then all the way to Oct,. But I chuckled. Isn't it always the way. You start to record and something happens to make you have to stop and start again. LOL. I loved seeing inside the church, Phil. The carvings were fun and I loved the dragon on the one choir stall. Have a good week
Thanks Laura... Yes, it all seems to go to pot as soon as we turn the camera on 😄 But it's all part of the fun 😂 So glad you enjoyed the church and the carvings, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
Another birthday already? I think this is the third one I've been able to wish you a Happy Birthday!! I hope we see many more, thanks for the years of wonderful fun videos.
Happy birthday Caroline, your a March baby too, my birthday is next week lol. What a beautiful town with so much history and i love learning about it with you Phil as you explain and add a bit of mystery to everything. Awesome video guys, take care and thank you for sharing 👍🙏❤️🎂
FYI Chat GPT knows about Manky "Manky is a stuffed toy panda that belongs to Phil and Caroline Johnson, who are RUclipsrs based in Wales. Manky was found discarded and then restored back to health. He enjoys climbing, going on adventures, and apparently has a sweet tooth for chocolate and sweets."
That was lovely. I wish I had seen you as I live just outside abergavenny In llantilio pertholey and there is a lovely church just down the road from me which is worth a visit.
So glad you enjoyed the video Tracey... We are going to return soon to make another video in the area, so will try and get out to see the church near you. 🙂😎🐼
Hi there from Australia. I loved this video as it was very informative, and an insight from where my ancestors came from.. Many of Australia's ancestors came to Australia as free people (not as convicts). On my maternal side the Davies family came from Abergavenny, but they came on an "Assisted Passage". My understanding is that "the church parish" paid to relocate families rather than having to support them for a lifetime. Is this a topic that you might consider covering in the future. I believe this happened all over England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. Kind regards, Stuart
Hi Stuart, greetings from the valleys of South Wales, and the land of your ancestors. We love to visit Abergavenny and have made a few videos there. The practice of assisted passage was very popular as u=you say across the UK and continued in some form right into the 1970's when Caroline's parents were planning to emigrate under the £10 scheme which attracted over 1 million people to make the move. I'm sure that we'll find an opportunity to cover this in a future video, thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching 🤠🙂🐼
Is the museum of country life still in abbgavenny? I couldn't believe how much was there when I visited many years ago.i remember it was in an old church.
We haven't been to the Museum at Abergavenny Kev, but I did find this link to one that's near the castle www.monlife.co.uk/heritage/abergavenny-museum-castle/ Thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
Hi 3 years ago I had a motor home and I was parked at the rear of the car park by the entrance, I stayed the evening as it was free 6am to 8pmif I remember correctly. I decided to stay for the day and paid for parking so I could look around abbergaveny and go out in the evening for a couple of pints and a meal, when I was at my mobile home I was approached by two men who told me that I could not stay over nightthis perplexed me as it stated on the parking sign that over night stay is free. I said do you want visitors to your town and that I would be spending money to help the businesses in the town, but I was told again I could not stay over night ,that's one town I'll avoid in future
