Was this supposed to be a SECRET? ABERGAVENNY VLOG | St MARY'S PRIORY | FOOD @the MARKET | uni stuff

- I managed to get back over to Abergavenny, in South Wales in today's daily vlog. I got into St Mary's Priory earlier this time, so I could linger leisurely, taking in the fine details of the ancient treasures within, and discover a bit more about them.
In true Imo style, I get hungry rather early on and this time, the market is open for business, so I head to the 'Little Singapore' street food outlet and enjoy some tasty rice noodles, and an unusual drink, whilst chatting to others there.
After lunch, I take a little mooch around Abergavenny market, taking a closer look at the stalls and their contents, and then my shopping-for-university mission is resumed. I am on the hunt for first aid supplies and a sharp chopping knife for cooking. The latter proves to be a bit of a challenge!

Imo is a flautist/flutist (flute player), and these vlogs will often take you behind the scenes of the life of a professional folk musician. Stand by for bits and bobs of live folk music and dance as they pop up in our day-to-day lives.
These videos will not generally feature recorded background music, making them extra suitable for people who aren't keen on pop music!
Follow this channel for daily-life vlogs (6 days a week, usually), content relating to the flute, travel (particularly to Lisbon, Portugal), folk musician lifestyle, and to see what life is like for this little family in our corner of South Wales in the UK.

I went to St Mary's Priory in summer 2022 and was seriously impressed with the quality of the carvings and sculptures of the graves there. You mentioned that one of the graves there might be a heart burial. I visited St Lawrence's in Ludlow in July where possibly one of the most famous burials there is the "heart" of Prince Arthur, the older brother of Henry VIII. He lived and died in Ludlow Castle. It is said that his heart was buried in St Lawrence's in Ludlow while the rest of his body was buried in Worcester Cathedral. However, when I was in the church learnt that they're not sure if it's Prince Arthur's heart which was buried in the church or another internal organ, as they don't know if they could correctly identify the internal organs at the time...
Thank you for bringing back some very happy memories of being in Abergavenny, even the cafe in Morrison's!
Thanks so much for the info! :)
Just so impressed by the workmanship depicting the effigies on the tombs, and the age of the tombs,
Brilliant tour imo. St Mary’s use to be my church I went to weekly!I live 7 miles away in crickhowell. The statue of Jesse went up to the Tate in London some years ago and the church organised a trip up for the weekend to see it,it was an exhibition on all statues it was a great weekend. Thank you for your videos I think your amazing.x
Hello Jesse!! I would love to see them all in full colour
Thank you Imo what a great day out the Church was stunning so much history when I see the marble statues on top of the tombs I always feel the people were very well off , the tree carvings were beautiful what great workmanship they were such great artist I just marvel at it As I watched the search for Issy's paring knife Asda Dunelm and Sainsbury's all do kitchen knifes just for future reference .xx
I'd rather spend time in a church and graveyard than a museum. Like you said, there are so many artifacts within an ancient church ... they can teach us a lot of history. And I love the sombre, quiet mood of it all. Loved the tour.. thanks! One place I'd love to see, but know I won't get there is the Paris Catacombs. What a job that was finding a sharp knife. I like the cover that came with it too. The fries looked so good!!. 💗
Oh, back to that church. I love the history you share. I love the thought you had about the artist and the connection. I wonder if they thought it would still be viewed in the 2000's
I’m not religious in the slightest, but I always enjoy seeing the architecture of churches. It’s always so unique
Me too...I had the good fortune of looking around Lincoln Cathederal and it is BEAUTIFUL!!
Love Wales so pretty 💜😻😆😁😊😀🥰🤪
When my daughter has a university box being added to, I always like to sneak a little something in to surprise her when she opens it up (the Halloween Skelton you passed made me think of that)
I'm so pleased you found a knife with a cover. It will stay sharper and safe to store as well. In my area the oldest churches are about 1850 and still in use.
Thanks Karen. X
Oh I need a couple of new sharp knives. Thanks for the reminder x
You’re welcome 😊
Wow.... amazing that the effigy is still there after all these years. I wonder what type of wood it was sculpted from, to last that long. How many people have looked and perhaps touched it over the years gone by. So interesting. Makes me think of the local coastal first nations and the totem poles they carved and how long they've lasted. We had a master carver in town when I was young ( I was friends with his sister), and I would watch him carve.. so interesting.
thanks imo loved the church and the history great looking market too donny xx
Cheers, Donny.
How interesting , i am so amazed at the art work and sculptures what a wonderful church , i will have to visit Abergavenny it looks so very interesting , another church to put on my list to visit :)
The statues and carvings are amazing. I'm not religious at all but i love looking at the historical artefacts in churches etc.
Do you think the secret tunnels would have been used to hide people in a similar way large Catholic houses had priest holes? Just something i wondered, i have no idea.
So glad the knife hunt is over. Does Izzy have a chopping board?
She does! Thanks 😊 x
Monmouthshire full of the weird and wonderous ....good luck on your new voyage of discovery...There is another, highly recommended , RUclips travel and discovery channel Gabriel traveler....finding forgotten religious buildings on border of Russia, in Georgia.....
I recall you wanting to introduce travel as part of your presentation..As they say...each journey starts with one step...Good luck......
You should go up Ysgyryd Fawr. I almost to Abergavenny in 2019 i played guitar in a pub there. Kim Wildes father Marty Wilde has a song called Abergavenny.
Yay you found one :o) the hunt is over xx
Yey! At last! :) x
❤❤❤❤❤
19:42 there's a pink knife right there in the back, look!
😆 thanks!!
Oh yes...the knife that you got for Izzy was much nicer than the boring black handled ones in Morrisons...and it had the cover...much better. In My Opinion...!
I was born and grew up in Abergavenny my children baptised at St Mary's but live Bristol now family still there go back occasionally but changed a lot. I think the charity shop used be video shop back in the day.
Morrisions used to be the cattle market.
Have you done Abergavenny meadows/ linda vista Park and Castle ruins/ museum as that's not far from St Mary's
Thanks! I’d like to vlog those things you mentioned at some point :)
We overlook our past because we are busy with our present. Simple.
True!
The d. probably denotes the year that they died. The sculpture would have been carved soon after. It is not uncommon the have the heart of a saint of royalty to be buried somewhere else from the body. Allan Barton from the Antiquary channel has talked about this. That was a very nice visit to St. Mary's.
yes, that's correct, d. will mean the year when he died.
Ore great instred blob great informant have u got another let's go with imo history with imo blob 😻😆😁😜🤩🌷
Hi Imo, I was shouting at the screen “go to Morrisons”. I knew they had single knives, well my local one does.
Hope you & Izzy are well.
😆
The knife you bought though was “prettier” that the ones from Morrisons, & the cover is good.
hahaha - Pelex Watches 13.00
The “d. 1854” underneath Dr. David Lewis name would usually indicate the year the person died
Ohhhhhh! I never guessed that. Thank you! :)
@@PlanetImo I’ve a morbid fascination with dead rock stars and that’s always how they’re listed so I’m assuming it’s a universal thing
I'd go to my local hardware shop for a knife
Hi imo I am not well how are you feeling is Izzy in yuni yet ❤🎉😮😊😊😮🎉❤
Sorry to hear you're not very well. No, she's not going quite yet. I hope you get better soon. Thanks for watching.
