"I let it go to voice mail, 'cause I wanted to see what the tone is."
Trauma response at its finest.
Yup ^
Very much so
@@blairg8171 whats "yup"?
@@space.midnight.cowboyhes agreeing with what the comment said about trauma responses
It's all a publicity stunt to get back into Hollywood because the younger generation have never heard of her, she's an as been.. If she was asked if she could start her life all over again by being a film star or working in a 9-5 job I bet her answer would be working in Hollywood as a movie star. She should be greatful the Director chose her for Blue Lagoon.
So sad that anyone would think a child should be treated that way. Glad she is speaking out.
THAT WAS HER MOTHER'S FAULT.
@@kenyapressley6706Mama was "busy" with her own agenda..
She had parents.
I made the choices for her. And now she is so rich and privileged she can see whatever she wants
Oh so you never watch any movie with child actora in them? They make them for you.
@@alinasmall941she had to act as a child prostitute.

THAT WAS HER MOTHER'S FAULT.
@@kenyapressley6706it's also the people who did its fault
@@xiebabe01Those disgusting people wouldn't have been able to get to her if her mother protected her.
@@bigoak4487 yes but it doesn't negate their actions or hers. Everyone at fault is at fault. It can't just all be put on her. As adult humans we know better and should do better.
Her mother was the person who should.protect her!!
And the father
She protected her bank account more
Exactly
She did most of the time. Except once. She let Brook be photograph by Playboy as a child. In a tub full of bubbles. What the hell was her mother thinking?
She has not yet come to terms with the Narcissism of her mother.. she still gives her grace
She spoke out about postpartum depression too, making it a real thing that after that people took seriously. I’m forever grateful to her for that.
She was being groomed as a child for a sex symbol to these older men. They paid her and owned her like a prostitute its really disturbing when you look back at child actors from even brooks and drews generation.
Definitely undercurrent shopped out to.pervs
Not to mention their parents that allowed this... Drew's mother would take her to Studio 54 when she was a child!!! Drinking, smoking & lots of coke...😡
Standard Hollywood behaviour.
Their mothers sold them to Hollywood for their own selfish reasons. Absolutely disgusting.
@@seaniverse7137 I think it's changing. Slowly, but it is moving in the right direction with the predators being called out and even charged with crimes. Just wish they would be faster about it.
It seems empowering that she can now understand and process what she went through. Hopefully, bringing these experiences to light can better alter the present and future for other women in the industry. True strength 🙏
Very well said comment.
HER MOTHER TOOK ADVANTAGE OF HER MUCH WORSE THAN ANY OTHER PERSON. SHE IS TRYING TO STAY RELEVANT VIA SELECTIVE MEMORIES. HER MOTHER WAS HER PROBLEM.
She was their set dressing: a type of doll. So glad she got away from all of that. Married a good man and had a family.
HER MOTHER TOOK ADVANTAGE OF HER MUCH WORSE THAN ANY OTHER PERSON. SHE IS TRYING TO STAY RELEVANT VIA SELECTIVE MEMORIES. HER MOTHER WAS HER PROBLEM.
O think this was way more comfortable conversation because Drew can relate. That and she is just so unapologetically Drew. She let's everyone else just be unapologetically themselves
Agreed
Taxi Driver with Jodie Foster is another sick movie role for such a young person. She was 12.
Yea but she was good...and deniro. I couldn't stop watching and i do get bored easily
Taxi driver was great. And jodie wasnt nude. I think the subject of child traficking isnt easy to tackle in a movie but i think it was done right there wasnt anything overtly sexual i mean it was all implied but there were no sex scenes. She did have nude scenes in the movie "the girl who lived down the lane" were she goes to bed with a boy she was 13 in that but i read that they used her older sister or a body double for the nude scene, dont know if its true. The movie was good, But i agree it isnt necessary to show the nudity of a child, since they can't consent.
Her mother and a social worker supervised her and the crew for the duration of the shoot.
And The Professionals. Natalie Portman was a kid and got disgusting mail from men.
She also had a stand in for the more suggestive scenes and was given a heavily redacted version of the script.
She has always been so beautiful it's disgusting that grown adults would take advantage of a child that way instead of protecting her
Then she was attacked for needing antidepressants!
HER MOTHER TOOK ADVANTAGE OF HER MUCH WORSE THAN ANY OTHER PERSON. SHE IS TRYING TO STAY RELEVANT VIA SELECTIVE MEMORIES. HER MOTHER WAS HER PROBLEM.
@@kenyapressley6706Yes, her mother and father failed her. However, the fact that this kind of scenario was accepted by society at large is a greater problem that isn't being analyzed. 🤨🤔 In today's world and in the past (perhaps since the dawn of time), males have always think this kind of behavior towards girl children is acceptable behavior and women have been passive in enabling the wrong of many males.
@@kenyapressley6706 What, and the men who used her bare no responsibility just because her mother should have protected her? Those men shouldn't have even tried to use her! People like you who will do anything to excuse and defend male predators make me sick.
When your used at an early age and it’s never about what you want, it’s harder to find an identity. Thanks Brook for being so honest and owning your story!!
Back in the day, watching this movie as an adolescent. It was fantastic.
You shouldn't have seen that as an adolescent or ever for that matter. Was anyone protecting your innocense?
I've never understood why Pretty Baby is still shown and she was nude at age 11
So wrong ...
@juliehealingleaf6211 I saw it when I was younger, as a child I didn't think of it as anything other than a movie ,with pretend people. As an adult, it's beyond horrible. She was playing a child prostitute and was fully nude with grown men around her.
should be banned it's truly disgusting.
It’s child porn under any other circumstance those men would be in jail but because it’s Hollywood and framed as a movie it’s just accepted. Not a single adult in that movie thought we shouldn’t have a child fully nude on camera simulating sex with adult men it’s absolutely disgusting and should be banned
@@tonyabannister8006 wow, i can't believe her mom allowed that.
I'm always so thankful (and always happy!) to hear from Brooke on topics such as how she was treated early on and still is, for her beauty. She's amazing and a true role model :)

I like Brooke Shields
She’s smart , presents herself well, she’s beautiful and also a great actress
I love her as an interviewer...she is very sincere and genuine.
Brooke has always been an icon - even when we were both children! Thank you for owning all of your truth now that you're an adult. You deserved to be protected and cherished as a little girl - not treated as a sexual being as a CHILD!
It's sad her mother felt this was OK. The men were probably doing it for "their art ".
HER MOTHER TOOK ADVANTAGE OF HER MUCH WORSE THAN ANY OTHER PERSON. SHE IS TRYING TO STAY RELEVANT VIA SELECTIVE MEMORIES. HER MOTHER WAS HER PROBLEM.
When I was a teenaged girl, around 13, The Blue Lagoon was such a romantic movie to me...
13? Good grief! Wasn't anyone protecting your innocence?
@@cherylwebb8340 yes and the movie wasnt explicit, I had an incredibly strong mother jackass
@@cherylwebb8340You think people protected children’s innocence in the 70’s? Adults thought it was cool to expose kids to stuff. There was no protecting. My mom dropped me and my brother off for a double feature of a violent war movie and a sexy love story so she could have a date. I was 10 and my brother was 8.
To be with her cousin was romantic? 🤢
@@cherylwebb8340 same..
I love how honest she is here. So relatable
She was exploited as a child but knows in her right mind that she wouldnt allow her own daughters at 11 yrs of age to do what she allowed to do in Pretty Baby or Blue Lagoon. Thats why its not even shocking how now days parents of littles ones, allow their children half dressed, dancing to sexual adult songs, just for a shot at fame. These parents need some real help.
I idolized Brooke Shields she was the girl everybody wanted to be. I remember seeing Blue Lagoon and Endless Love at the theater with my high school boyfriend.
We love brooke shields
This interview inpowered me to start telling my story. I'm forever thankful.

I love Brooke Shields. Such a funny actress. I remember watching the 1st episode of Suddenly Susan and being shocked at how funny she was. I’m heartbroken she struggled as a child. I’ve heard that she is an excellent mother, in spite of her upbringing.❤
I always found it weird that they sexualized her when she was a teen…
She was sexualized even before a teen, before she was even 10
She wasn't the only one from that era sexualized. Jodie Foster, Tatum O'Neal, Phoebe Cates.

So sorry for Brooke but she is a strong woman speaking out about her life ❤️
Drew you inspire me everytime I watch your show. Thank you ❤
She was a sold product to everyone. Sad situation. We all wanted to be a movie star at some point, never knowing the dark side of it.
HER MOTHER TOOK ADVANTAGE OF HER MUCH WORSE THAN ANY OTHER PERSON. SHE IS TRYING TO STAY RELEVANT VIA SELECTIVE MEMORIES. HER MOTHER WAS HER PROBLEM.
@@kenyapressley6706I agree but now she's an adult and can be a spokesperson against the exploitation of children but chooses to deny the gravity of what happened. She calls ot art for an 11 yr old to play a prostitute and kiss a 29 year old man.
she looks so relieved to discuss 😅
It’s ironic as I saw the Blue Lagoon film in the theater twice when I was 7. I loved it. I remember I it was beautiful and magical at that age. Was interesting seeing it again as an adult with different eyes.
This is 90% her mother's fault. She should be the one who protected her.
Not the full story , all larger and /or older Humans should protect smaller and/younger Humans . This paradigm is then then expanded to other concepts . More should take care of Less. Strong takes care of week . Need should take care of Want.
You weren't a pawn, you were an actor. (Close enough)
I'm glad she's stable in spite of everything she went through. She's a great mom to her own kids in understand 👍👍👍👍👍❤️
This is so sad. Keep speaking out, Brooke!! It's the only way people will change their sick behaviors instead of it being a norm in society.
Brooke has grown. And I see the frozen trauma in her eyes slowly turning to to the self love she always needed.
I really wish her well. And healing. She’s been through hell.
Brooke has the right not to talk to anyone about it with anyone she doesn't want to discuss it with her. However, it could be a real opportunity for these men to learn what they did and give an apology.
Sorry. Exploited, indeed. My heart goes out to You. All the Best to You. Smart and Beautiful Inside and Out❣⚘❤
For what she has been through, my gosh she is so strong. I’ve always loved her, growing up in the late 90’s early 00’s I saw a tall, funny lady who was so pretty but most of all she could make people giggle.
You wouldn’t know she’d been through all that, she just gives off the most beautiful vibes. ❤
I blame her mother more then the directors, she allowed it, she signed off on it. She was so desperate for Brooke to famous. In an interview she said that all the doctors and nurses told that her baby was the must beautiful baby ever born in the hospital. That is a major red flag.
I love Drew giving this interview because she can relate to those experiences during that particular era.
Pretty Baby is just the worst story to have put an very young child in. It never should even have been made. I remember lots of people including my parents were angry and no one really wanted to see it in my family
Pedophiles wrote, directed and produced "Pretty Baby".
Unfortunately though "Pretty Baby" was a hit... A lot of people just didn't think about her age at all. In my little small town we all went to see it. I was not even old enough to watch it but I was with my Aunt who was 18 at the time and I was about 4.... I only remember this because it was my aunt who realize what this movie was and that we left in the middle of it but I don't remember a lot of people leaving with us though.... Also nobody even talk about this movie in my hometowneven my aunt said it was disgusting but she never talked about it again... So people just let this happen...... Sad but true...... ❤❤❤ However I just adore Brooke Shields.... I've always loved her......

I remember seeing Blue Lagoon when I was little.... I was thinking about that movie the other day and could not remember the title. So thanks for the random short :)
Wow this clip really hits it home, you can hear the pain in her voice. I’m glad she’s speaking up!
She was a toy. It's as simple as that. These people don't see children as children they see them as accessories and toys. They don't see a living being with rights, body autonomy and needs that don't serve the adult abuser.
Yes 💔
Greedy bunch of leeches, I should say. Yes, she was just a pawn to them, as she says it now.

Brooke I was only a year to the day younger than you. I was born 5/31 and I feel your pain. I wasn't on film but I lived similar Male control to serve and being a pawn, in Their success.

You watched Pretty Baby when you were 8?
@@denisedoherty4909 Blue Lagoon. There was a pretty graphic birthing scene and it freaked me out cause she was a kid
So glad Brooke is able to speak out about her experiences - and Drew is so open as well - love them both!!!
Seeing the Blue Lagoon as a child, it didn't seem creepy. In fact, it was a fantasy to think of being on a beautiful island with no parents and a cute boy.
Pretty Baby, however, was ick.
Thank you Drew, for supporting Brooke
This is so powerful !
Drew having her own history makes me okay with her being the one to ask.
Brooke was the most beautiful girl in the world.
She is an icon.
Nobody will ever equal her.
Agreed
Definitely. And she owes all of her good looks to the father that left the family. I've seen some old photos of her father and I have to admit her father was handsome handsome handsome practically drop dead gorgeous. That's where Brooke gets most of her looks from thank God.
@@manuellubian5709 Brooke's grandfather (Frank Shields' father) was a famous champion tennis player - and very handsome. You can see some resemblance in Brooke, in the jaw and chin (especially in the adult Brooke), the nose, lips, the eyebrows, and the sculpted face.
@@manuellubian5709 Frank and Teri got a divorce, but it would seem that Brooke still saw Frank and his family. I seem to remember reading something about Brooke spending vacations and time at her father's home (he was from a wealthy socualite family) and with her step siblings, which she enjoyed as she was an only child in her regular home with Teri.
What I wondered about was what Frank thought of Teri's management of Brooke and all those sexy child photos and roles. Surely he could have gotten custody if he'd wanted to, seeing as he was from a wealthy and prominent family. But perhaps it was Frank's mother, as she had opposed Frank and Teri's marriage and had paid Teri to get an abortion, which Teri obviously did not do. Frank's mother wanted Teri to be gone and to stay away from them.
@@SY-ok2dq That's wild because I certainly have never heard this part to her story -- and I'm from California.
In all the interviews she's ever done she has never once that I remember ever ever spoken of her father, Frank. The only way that people and members of the public even knew about Frank was from documentaries that people did ABOUT her. But in terms of coming directly from her own lips nothing was ever spoken of her father publicly by her.
TY for speaking up!
I'm so glad to see she is finally processing it all, I remember she used to downplay the horrible way she was treated but she has to face it to heal
Now imagine what Shirley Temple really went through
So beautiful, then and now! A wonderful lady and human being
She was a princess in the 80s and early 90s!

Drew barrymore’s ensemble and earrings so retro.
It comes down to their mothers ...they only wanted the money and fame, and sacrificed their young daughters for it. So terribly sad any child has to be dragged through that.
But what # other cultures/countries? It's all the mothers? Not at all...
@@suzanneyoung1729 it's usually the mothers, but it's always about the money and greed
Lol it's so much bigger and complex than their mothers....if u actually watched Brooke's documentary you would know
Not only the moms. There is something systemic that made Terri Shields’ consent possible. If it was a core value within our culture that sexualizing children was horrifically and morally wrong, so much so that movies like _Pretty Baby_ or _Blue Lagoon_ and _Endless Love_ were beyond even conceptualizing, there wouldn’t have been an avenue for Brooke to be exploited by the industry or her mother.
