I love Drew. But I feel like soon Drew will be sitting directly on guests laps during interviews. 😄
😂
It’s classless. Personal space should not be crossed. Much for her to learn.
Yes!! Thank you!! Soooo hard to watch.
she’s talking to a friend that she has similar and shared trauma with. they’re connecting and it’s personal and refreshing.
😂
can we have a roundtable with all the child actors talking about their experiences
It would be chillin’ they need therapists on hand
Brooke is in another zone of her own
@@FreedomofSpeech865 or a podcast series with a therapist/ social worker
Jennette McCurdy, Lindsay Lohan.. Britney Spears and Amanda Bynes but they have to be emotional well for it..
yesss
It boils down to one thing: *exploitation*
Both Drew and Brooke were completely exploited by their mothers, for status, money and power.
Hats off to Drew and Brooke for not letting them win in the end.
Totally
I truly admire both Drew and Brooke!!🥰🥰
Agreed, but Terri was still more protective but still utilized her daughter’s fame for clout
I thought drew was from a long line famous 😳 actor/actresses
This is what most of the anonymously judgmental people here on social media, will never understand… while you all talk about how cringeworthy this is, or how comical it is to you…
I watched Brooke's documentary and I think she is still in some denial about the truth of her mother's actions, the actions of everyone in the industry who exploited her, and her mother's failures to protect her. I think this is to protect herself.
Exactly!!! It's very sad to see.
I haven't watched it yet but have seen her interviews for it - she seems to me in less denial than she was when she wrote her book a few years ago, in the book she didn't question her mother at all...
Totally agree. She defended her mom in the documentary. But I've noticed that she's being harder on her mom in recent interviews. Maybe the documentary helped her see how terrible some of her mother's decisions were. Having her 10 year old daughter pose nude in makeup? I couldn't even look at the screen.
I think so too. Maybe allowing herself to admit it would be too devastating. It’s also probably why she’s one of the few childhood actors who didn’t fall victim to drugs/alcohol. She never accepted the reality that her mother was her abuser, so she never fell prey to drugs to escape her reality.
@Tara Johnson there's a wonderful clip near the end of the documentary where she's talking with her daughters and they're explaining consent to her, and why the concept of consent is what makes what THEY (her daughters) do with modeling and social media is different than what Brooke did as a teenager and child. Brooke states that the adults around her (her mom, producers, etc) decided something was okay, told her that it was, and she then just blindly accepted and trusted that. Even when she felt wrong, she knew she had no control and she went into her state of deep disassociation from what her body was doing and "got the job done". Her daughters explain to her that it wasn't okay for the adults in her life to make those calls, and that Brooke herself wasn't able to make those calls because of her youth, and that she should have been protected. It's sad but beautiful to watch.
Brooke was unfortunately sexualized at a very young age, it is a miracle she is not very mentally ill at her age. She has been through so much. My generation grew up with Brooke and love her so much.
I know! I'm so happy Brook has the survived with what seems to be relatively no severe mental issues or drug / alcohol problems.
Because she understood from that young age she was acting. At the same time she had a good relationship with her mother who protected her from the evils.
People were stronger when she was coming up.
I don't think she came out of it unscathed. These things sometimes percolate for years until the realization hits, as it is hitting for Brooke now.
Her, Jody Foster, countless other boys and girls and whoever the little actress was in Bastard out of Carolina (do NOT watch!)
I hope Brooke never accepts a call or apology from any of these men. They don't deserve to disturb her peace. She is now the keeper and protector of her peace.
Amen
100% agree
Yes! Perfectly said.
MOMMY DEAREST
Well part of having peace is giving grace and forgiveness for your own preservation. She should do what's best for herself and if she chooses forgiveness then that's fine too.
wow…when Drew said her mother followed Terry Shields… Brooke looked horrified! So important
Yes I noticed that. The look in her eyes.
Clever for drew to say that.
It threw her off to a reaction
One we needed to see
Even Drew agreed! (She actually 'liked' your comment). How true, though!
It’s something that always rubbed me the wrong way was how much Brooke used to say how tasteful the movies were done etc etc and how she basically wasn’t speaking out against sexualization of children and holly weird but at the same time I have to give her grace cus she was clearly in denial but I’m glad it brings up the conversation and I’m hoping she hears everyone telling her nah girl you were abused and she starts to work thru that. It’s sad no matter what and I can tell by that reaction how much she was like damn wtf. Cus think about drew went thru a whole ass addiction and everything and it’s not Brooke’s fault of course but for that to be a factor in it that her mom looked up to her mom that would make me shook too
I love how genuine Drew is but i feel like she would be invading my personal space bubble too much.
Me too. Love the interview but BACK UP.
Same. There should be a couple more inches between them
Esp for someone w trust.. obet-stepping boundaries issues..
.
Same!😁
Lol. It just shows me she is an actor. They typically have no personal bubbles or very small bubbles. In college, I took a lot of theater, and we had a lot of criticism about creating personal space for our characters because we were too in each other’s spaces. So this comment makes me giggle because now I see it.
What is terrible about Brooke saying her mother relied on her to pay basic bills is that her father was very wealthy and his mother was actually an Italian princess but her mother refused any alimony money from him even though she had a child to raise. Brooke said in the documentary that when she was at her father’s house growing up she had a normal family experience. I wish her father was more involved in the type of roles she was allowed to play. No child at 10-11 years old should ever have been allowed to play a child prostitute and be naked in a movie.
I agree. There was a name for that movie then and it's the same now- child porn.
it is not the role in that movie that hurt her. It is the exploitation by her mother for years and then the stupid ignorant american public who likes guns and violence on tv normal but calls everything porno if there is even talk of a half nipple showing.
Did you live with her mother to know? Her mother became an alcoholic. That can completely change your personality and your relationship with money.
@@panjabipandit That doesn't excuse the child abuse.
@@panjabipandit No, I didn't know Brooke's mom, but Brooke has put out books about her life.
I’m so happy that both of them have each other as friends and confidantes.
She didn't protect her, she exposed her.
🎯!!!….
Teri signed the waiver to let Brooke pose for ‘Playboy’ at 10 years old!!!
@@fbueller At 11, she was in "Pretty Baby"..and being trafficked at that age by your own mother...getting to her age now and being anywhere close to normal has required a herculean effort...So well done on her......
Exploited her 💸💸💸
Exploited ^
I RRREALLLYYY hope people understand how important is to watch Drew exist the way she does, in SUCH a viscerally authentic way. Her physical self-placement is SO immediately disarming, it leaves no room for facade on anyone whose energy, quite literally, pulls her towards them.
It is creepy.
@@jessiejoseph1093 Thank you for sharing with us that you’re on an unrelated journey. We wish you well.
I completely agree. And what a blessing she is based on her life experiences, she’s not jaded or bitter like they talked about in the video. Instead she’s still wholesome and sweet and chooses the brighter path, paying it all forward with love and warmth toward others. She’s amazing to watch and I find her inspiring
I really don’t like her body language. It puts me on edge.
@@michyn4959 Thank you for sharing with us that you’re on an unrelated journey. We wish you well.
This really broke my heart. Even though they wound up having a lot of amazing things happen in their lives, the corruption of their childhoods is very sad.
Adoring Drew. She is the sweet girl at the teen sleepover who really wants to hear everyone's story and snuggle up and braid everyone's hair. I just love getting a glimpse of her sweet little girlness still alive in her authentic reach for connections with people.
Interestingly her actual personality reminds me of some of the characters she’s played, like the one in 50 First Dates.
Drew Barrymore is doing some thing that is completely her own and revolutionary. She’s gonna go down as one of the great talk show hosts. She connects with people in a way that I’ve never seen.
💯
totally. it's ACTUAL connection. not fake talk show points. it's connecting on a human to human level, no matter who the guest is.
Yes she’s incredible one of the best I love me some Drew, she inspires me during my lowest of low days. Especially during this grieving & ongoing season of mourning, my beloved adopted mom.💔❤️🩹💔 Thank you always Drew Barrymore for your openness, & authenticity.🌷
Drew is real. Genuine. We love her for that.
She’s been there and knows what these people have gone through, she grew up in it. I sincerely feel that makes a huge difference then any other talk show host.
Drew’s Mum dating her boyfriends IS SO CRAZY. That is something that I cannot comprehend. I don’t have the words
My favorite Brooke Sheilds quote “You don’t have to like me…” Is there anyone who doesn’t like Brooke Sheilds? In 25 years of production work including two that Brooke worked on I have never heard a single negative word. The complete opposite, from every single encounter. Professional, friendly, approachable, genuine etc. Pretty sure that’s why she’s still working 45 years later.
I seriously love Drew's sincerity.....she genuinely cares about everyone that she talks to. She's such a genuine, pure and loving soul in this world.....we need more people like Drew Barrymore in this world. It would be a much happier and peaceful place.
It feels like she is trying too hard to be sincere. Relax. Let people talk. You don’t have to identify and have a similar experience with everything they say. Sorry, but she’s a terrible interviewer. Shut up while they answer, please :)
So sorry that both of these women went through what they did as children. Brooke said she was used as a pawn for the men to get what they were after. This interview is so honest, raw, emotional, deep, and I feel such compassion and admiration for them rising above all of that and being strong women today.
In drew Barrymore’s first biography “little girl lost”, she describes begging her mom to make her a famous actress. So her mom did. & from the sound of it, she put her own life on hold to do it. & this is how she speaks about her in public. Wow
@@chrisspens1654 but why did making her a famous actress include taking her out to party at Studio 54 when she was only 11 years old? She was a child exposed to alcohol, drugs, and exploitation. Her mother didn't protect her, she used her.
@@BeeGirlz also, things were much different back then. Teachers were still allowed to cane kids in school for gods sake! You can’t compare today’s standards to back then.
Brooke was exploited since she was a little girl. The Blue Lagoon is a pornographic movie. I think she was the type of actress to John and Bo Derek movies. But every model in the world is used, she's not alone.
I don't think that their mothers were in love with them, I think that they were trying to live and be loved and admired through their beautiful daughters.
Yeah in love…. Brookes mom was OBSESSED with her. She literally complimented her every second, she put her in nude photos at like 10, and she was so close to Brooke in an uncomfortable way. Brookes mom was in love with the thought of Brooke. She was in love with having someone to control and just watch over. It’s so creepy.
Yeah I think they either haven't worked through it yet or just aren't able to accept it, but that's not love. I completely understand what they mean and why they would use that word, but its obsession and control. It's the same as an abusive husband claiming to love his wife so much he can't help but keep her from talking to other people. It's not love, it's obsession and ownership.
Narcissistic mothers
I agree. The mothers were doing what they thought were best
👍💯
When Drew said she thinks her mom was so enamored with her that she actually wanted to be with the people she (Drew) had been with, I simultaneously cringed and felt incredibly sad for Drew. She didn't deserve that. That is so other level creepy! :'(
Both mothers were parasitic and their relationships with their daughters were largely possessive and transactional in nature. Brooke's mother was more 'present' because she was more diciplined, focused and controlling, despite her alcoholism. She was prepared to be ruthlessly exploitative as well as smotheringly protective of her creationn. I am pleased that Brooke is no longer her mother's golden goose and exquisite cipher.
Watching Brooke in these interviews I can't help thinking that she's still so vulnerable. Or maybe it's just been exposed again because of everything she's revealing. I think she's got a lot of courage and strength.
when brooke said that her mom was in love with her i audibly gasped its just so chilling
I know. It’s really disturbing.
me too,
I think she meant that she was her mum’s project who saw her child as an extension of herself. Loads of parents push their children to do and achieve things that they couldn’t get to do themselves when young.
@@sherekhan90 no i got what she meant
Both of these women's mothers were vampires. They used their children to make a living, instead of making a living themselves, for their children. Ugh. It's really disgusting.
Trauma bonded to narcissistic parents - takes time to really face the truth of the betrayal
Brooke seems more aware here on this interview than she did in her documentary. This shows she is continuing to heal and understand the real truth of what happened to her.
I think she is still afraid of the machine. She will never expose them.
0:48 That look of complete and utter shock and confusion on Brooke’s face as Drew tells her her mother was seen as “a great protector” 😆💀
Drew should have a podcast. I feel like the show limits her interactions with her guests.
Completely agree! I do feel deep conversations like this needs more airtime. Having an on screen talk show limits her time spend with her guests. Really hope she have a separate podcast would be amazing and a hit!
Enough DREW, She's EVERYWHERE...
Thank you Drew and Brooke!! I was brought up by a single mother from the age of 12 and she was and still is super obsessed with my sister and I. You guys laughing about it helps me to laugh too when its been nothing but tears for a very long time.
I feel sorry for the moms too cuz it's like they hv Noone else. I'd like to say their all single also
I hope your tears dry. If it helps, you can’t save mama but you sure can save yourself💕
@@ericabaysinger6343but they had the choice to built a community of people instead they chose to impinge in their daughters’ normal development and need to separate and individuate.
My mom was like that too and she wouldn't allow me to date. Yet' she never gave the sex talk or told me how men should treat me. It was like she never wanted me to find someone.
I love these two!
Drew & Brooke during this conversation: 😆😆😆
Folks in the audience during this conversation: 😬 *nervous laughter* 😳😳😳
INTENSE. It must be so rare for Drew to meet another person whose life parallels with hers in so many ways. I can tell she was all in. What a story.
WOW Drew is so close to her I would be uncomforable having someone in my space like that
AGREE 👍!!
Drew is TRULY America's Sweetheart. Look at how much she has overcome and how many just like her do not come out of that experience whole. She's sweet, honest, smart and extremely funny. I'd love to see her do honest stand up comedy.
Brooke Sheilds should be given all the rights of all of her child imagery especially the naked imagery and she should be compensated for the mental anguish.
I love how honest this interview is. ILY, Drew.
When I was a kid like these two wonderful women, we did not speak about these horrible things in our lives. Thank you both for sharing and for letting us heal with you!
I love how Drew and Brooke shared each other's space in this interview. It's so beautiful.
They have an incredible amount of things in common - it's uncanny.
yes... but Drew sort of crammed herself into Brooke's space, a bit!
@@SG-mf5nd that’s putting it mildly. Brooke looks uncomfortable. Drew is simply painful to watch.
@@SG-mf5nd just look at the thumbnail
@@adua78 I agree. She looks uncomfortable. Brooke has been on camera her entire life and she knows too much about the camera and images to lean back from Drew. She manages keep her body leaning forward, but her face betrays her feelings. I feel so sorry for her.
Two of the strongest women in the industry hands down! So proud of how far they've come through traumatic childhoods!
Wow..I'm sorry for what all these ladies went through.
yes; and imagine Iran, etc. a whole other level of awful- proud "sanctified" violent awful.
Such an amazing interview. What Brother Ike says about the No sexuality and being a possession really hits home.
Drew is smothering Brooke like her mother did lol
Both survived abuse from their own mothers I can 100 percent relate to that..and I especially related to Brooke Shields in Pretty Baby
I’m sorry Kelly 😢 no child should relate to that
This is so much more healing for the both of them than most of us can comprehend.
Whoa! Did anyone feel how much Drew was infringing on Brooks personal space on Live Tv on Her show! As a guest you would feel obligated to not say anything but Brook looks “wide-eyed” in a couple of spots where Drew is speaking. I’m sure Drew isn’t aware but I feel so sorry for Brook!
2:50 😭 her voice started breaking. How could anybody not like this legend? !
Drew, PLEASE interview Tatum O’Neal!
Yes!
Yes!
And yes.
Drew is right in her face, man. It's a very intense posture.
I urge everyone to watch the documentary. It was so fantastic! It was heartbreaking but also uplifting to see that she came out of it the other end.
Im like, "Drew, you're all up in her grill. Could you back off some?". LOL.
This is so real, so needed, gracious & amazing. Thank you!♡
These women were my sisters growing up. I love how you bring us into these intimate convos, Drew. I was there with you and Brooke as you were growing up. You were in the public eye, but as a kid you just felt like my friends going through a really cool reality. But then I saw the rough sides, too, because your growing pains were so very public. I can relate so much to what you went through, even though I'm a nobody. Thanks for sharing these stories. You really give a voice to GenX.
Meu Deus, o nível de intimidade e abertura emocional dessa conversa... Como nao amar Drew Barrymore? E Brook Shields... tão franca, e doce, ao mesmo tempo. Overall wholesome. Thank you. I guess this conversation was a healing moment for them and a great input for us, girls and women. Much love ❤❤❤
The documentary was so sad. Sickening. Brooke is still so beautiful, even more so now. 💗 Same for Drew. I love her more now than I ever have, just for bringing this stuff, and her own experiences to light.
I adore Drew. She seems so sweet and loving. I’d feel so comfortable and want to open up more if she was that warm towards me! She always genuinely seems interested in every guests’ stories. It’s like a therapy session!
The documentary was shocking and so upsetting. My heart breaks for 11 year old Brooke being exposed like that by disgusting men
Drew needs to respect these people and their personal space.
AGREE 👍!!!
I don't mind if they're friends
They've known each other for decades...of course she's sitting close to her.
She's not in reality
I remember the first time i heard about Brooke Shields, she is my age. I was 11 and saw her picture with rollerskates in a newspaper in Mexico. I though she was so cool. Drew Barrymore is much younger. She was 5 in E.T., I was 17 in 1982. I went to the movies in Mexico, they had close caption in Spanish, although I speak English. The movie made me cry.
I've known you girls since WE were all kids, close in age and all.
I'm so so proud of you both, you stepped out of trauma and made your own lives, true survivors.
Brooke eternamente bella. Crecí mirándola como un patrón a imitar. Imposible. Nadie se compara en belleza a Brooke.
I think Brooke continues to have a lot of love for her mom, but her mom's judgement was imbalanced. She allowed her child to be exposed and used in mature ways, but because "she was nearby" it was all okay? That is what broke my heart for Brooke the most. Her behavior is so similar to these parent/family influencers that market their children and their families online. The generation of kidfluencers that expose their parents narcissistic behavior is going to be crazily in a few years.
Brooke mom used her as vengeance towards the potential in laws
She got knocked up
And the son’s parents paid her to leave and get abortion
She didn’t
And here u go
Better than not being nearby.
This is a very important conversation about parental projection. Brave of both Drew and Brooke
She’s still so stunning and such a smart & talented woman.
Brooke seems ok with how close Drew is, she leans into her as well sometimes. I hope Drew knows who would be comfortable with that proximity
She should be more respectful of people's personal space.
she’s not as close with everyone, but their proximity matches the vibes of the interview!
Yeah Brooke looks a little startled by Drews .wild eyes
@@Cindy-wt6jli like this kind of closeness! Wouldn't feel disrespectful to me at all. I think she guages each guest, at least from what I've seen 😊
True and the way she still leans while she’s already so close to the person.
This show is so beautiful, every conversation feels like Drew is having a private conversation with every single one of her guests and we get to be there with them, it has this kind of familiarity in it that I love and we don’t get to see everywhere! Go Drew!!!
i watched part 1 of pretty baby last night and when i saw Drew in it, i was thrilled. really hoped to see Brooke on the show. this interview did not disappoint.
Alwaysed loved Brooke Sheilds, I can’t believe she’s been through so much at such a young age, I hope this documentary helped her heal her inner child ❤
She breaking free from Stockholm syndrome
Not to mention how she also had to battle Tom Cruise
@@thurston4mor She wouldn't agree with that assessment.
Drew B is THE talk show host we need. such real, great conversations.
So glad she told her story. I would look back and wonder how she dealt with her life as a child star. You both had such a warped reality. Just as a human being I am glad, (may sound odd but relieved) to see you speaking out processing and dealing with it all. ❤
I don’t know either of these women, but I’m incredibly proud of both of them. To triumph in the face of everything that they were exposed to it, such a young age is truly miraculous. What incredibly brave women.
Brooke Shields is one of the most beautiful women inside and out to have ever lived.
Brooke is graceful and a genius, Drew is a gem. Wow.
Brook still beautiful. It's so refreshing to hear her perspective in life.
Can’t wait to watch the documentary. Watching w my daughter and her roommate Sunday. Hugs to Drew and Brooke.
Such bravery in these women. Thank you, thank you for having this transparency.
tears for them love them so much
It is good that Brook is recognizing those layers that make up what her Mom put her through. She is tackling those layers, one at a time and unwrapping and dealing with them in a way that she can accept. She is getting there. Good for her!
I have always adored Brook Shields an amazing women, real, strong and brave
Big love. My mother loved her mother. Way to speak. Bravo. Narcissism is one of the biggest problems on Earth.
Drew’s everyone’s best friend. I would cry uncontrollably if I ever met her.
Drew, that’s a big couch baby, come on, space? 😂
Drew is always so inappropriate with personal space.
Well as they said.. history is not there to like or dislike but to learn from it to avoid the same mistake or take what is good. That docu is something liberating and riveting. Love u both Drew and Brooke ❤
Brooke is still so beautiful. What an amazing story she has.
Drew is a TRUE PISCES.. So happy to have a kindred sister...
I love Drew. she is such an authentic sweet soul.
I like the way they shared their personal space with each other without hesitation.
Drew is so brilliant in this. Brooke is still porcessing and healing.
My two favs together ❤
Yes the conversation I was waiting to happen!
WOW! This was such a great conversation and I'm now the biggest Brooke Shields fan!! Woooow!!!!!
Drew Barrymore was in tons of early 90s and late 80s roles that depicted her with older men or in a male gaze while she was underaged. She's never spoken about any experiences or abuse to my knowledge but I think she's relating to what Brooke Shields is saying.
Love you Drew and Brooke ❤
I am so happy that Brook has been able get pass everything. I love that they can still laugh about it.
Brook
You still look gorgeous !
She’s a legend!
Love these two
❤❤❤
Lol... Twords the end of the interview I thought Drew would end up sitting on Brooke's lap!!
Two amazing women. God has given you both beautiful hearts. 💕💕
What a great interview!! I think both of you were exploded at another level no one else can relate because laws against all of this came up right after.
To people criticising Drew for sitting like this with guests, how do you know that she doesn’t ask them beforehand if it’s okay?
That'd be odd and forced. Not natural
Because of how they react obviously but they're not bothered they just adjust
Amazing that Brooke had a goddess like beauty, but remained so down to earth. I think she had to, for her sanity, and has mentioned more than once she never really looked at herself in a mirror.
❤ thank you for sharing 🙏 Brooke and Drew about your mom and manager. Now that's compilated regarding acting in Hollywood.
This show is such a brilliant and natural evolution for Drew - she was deep in it from the start, and at so young and vulnerable an age. (Most) of the adults that surrounded her were so messed up in their own way, that they were missing that basic human instinct to protect a young girl. It is a powerful thing, and no small feat, that she has emerged from all of this with wisdom, grace, and compassion, for herself, and for other people that have dealt with damaging developmental circumstances as well. Her transparency, and yet bright hopefulness about hard things, will touch far more people than just former child stars. 🌺🦋
she's obnoxious and creepy
i love Brooke Shields she is a great actress.🤩
