Thanks for watching Ian! You can attach the cover if you want to, but if you attach it at both the front and back then you lose the ability to extend the book out, which is part of the beauty of the flag book. I would recommend just attaching the cover at the front flap and leaving the back loose so it just fold over and you keep the option of fully extending the book. Book structures are always open to experimentation!Happy bookbinding!!
Thanks for that question Lise. I get really large sheets of paper and then cut down to the size I want to use. So you can get larger sheets, depending on the type of paper, that range between like 18 x 24 inches up to 30 x 40 inches. A few stores to check out for this are: Blick Art Materials: www.dickblick.com/ Talas: www.talasonline.com/ French paper company: www.frenchpaper.com/ You can order online from all three. Blick also has locations all over the US so there may be one near you. Talas is located in Brooklyn and if you live in the NYC area you could go to their store in person too.
Hi! The small strips or flags can be any length and their combined height just needs to fit within the height of the accordion piece (or the height you want your finished book to be). The length of the main accordion fold is trickier to calculate - if you want the accordion folds to be 1/2 inch, double it , 1 in this case, and multiply that by the number of pages you want to have and then i like to add extra for larger front and back flaps to aid in attaching a cover. So if you have 6 pages like in the book I made in this video, I would do 1/2 x 2 = 1 x 6 pages = 12 inches + 4 inches extra to attach covers = 16 inches total. You can adjust to fit your needs but that’s basically how i figure it out. I hope that makes sense! Let me know if you still have questions.
Great little book.
Love this version because of the soft cover! Thanx so much for showing us how this folded accordion book is made!😁🥰🙃

Congratulations! What would happen if i glued the back cover too?
