  • Man Of Steel Reaction is today's update! Hey everyone! Join me as I watch Man Of Steel for the first time today!
With the imminent destruction of Krypton, their home planet, Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and his wife seek to preserve their race by sending their infant son to Earth. The child's spacecraft lands at the farm of Jonathan (Kevin Costner) and Martha (Diane Lane) Kent, who name him Clark and raise him as their own son. Though his extraordinary abilities have led to the adult Clark (Henry Cavill) living on the fringe of society, he finds he must become a hero to save those he loves from a dire threat.

Michael Shannon (the guy that played General Zod) did such a good job in his portrayal. He revealed in interviews that he played it as if Zod was the actual hero in the film. Zod, the whole time, thought he was in the process of saving his world and Superman was standing in the way. Definitely an interesting way to play it and, once you see it from that perspective, you start to understand how that turned into a great performance.

Well thinking about it it’s not really that weird of a position for Zod given the reason he was born. His entire purpose was to protect krypton and he really was doing everything in his power to save and rebuild krypton so his people could once again live peacefully. He’s fighting for his people and his planet and so is super man. It’s two different sides of the same coin. I really like Zod as a villain cause he didn’t feel like a totally batshit crazy villain like most are. Joker is a clear villain in the dark knight but Zod doesn’t really give that feel which I like.

Which makes sense in a way coz when Jor-El explains to Kal-El everyone on Krypton, their predetermined roles were by default programmed into their DNA. Dru-Zod even confirms this on their final battle that anything he does it's for the greater good of his people.

For me Christopher Reeves was my Superman from the 70's and 80's. He made me believe a man could fly, and I never thought anyone could top his performance until I saw Man Of Steel opening weekend. When the ground vibrated beneath his fists right before his first super sonic blast into space, I just openly wept. Not for the special effects but because Cavill made me believe again that a man could fly.

I like that I can watch this movie on its own without watching anything else from the DCEU. It's a great standalone movie. I remember seeing trailers for this movie when I was in elementary school and I was excited. First time I could see Superman on the big screen and I liked it. Many don't like the director for this movie but I personally like his take on Superman(for the most part).
If you want to continue off from Man of Steel, I would recommend you watch Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition). It adds more context to the movie. Then watch Wonder Woman and Zack Snyder's Justice League. After that you can really pick and choose.
Since I know your a Marvel fan, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you check out "Next Avengers: Heros of Tomorrow". Its a VERY good animated movie and gets surprisingly dark at times.
Here's a fun fact: the capes was actually CGI for large portions of the film. You wouldn't know it because it looked so convincing.

I never understood why Zod would want to change the planet’s atmosphere when he and the others would be super-powered on Earth as it is. They took Lois to have leverage over Superman in their discussions. And possibly to study her a bit as well. They probed her mind as well as Clark’s. So they wanted information.

Kryptonians revered Krypton. To have powers they would have to turn against that. If they had had powers on Krypton, then they would have made sure they had powers anywhere else they settled, but they didn't. They understood that their atmosphere and the size of the planet made them who they were and that's why they terraformed every planet they colonized to make Krypton Juniors. However, when things got dire, they chose to abandon their colony worlds to return to Krypton.

So this whole tribalistic us-versus-them mentality a lot of fandoms want to maintain is something that I would love to see fade out. I am a huge fan of Zack Snyder's usage of speed and slow motion, and in-depth storytelling. Which is why I would advice to look at the ultimate edition of Superman vs Batman and the Syder cut of Justice League, if you chose to go and explore the DCEU further.

Agreed. Growing up with Disney in the 60's made me aware how you either: Make a kids movie, spelling more things out while adding enough to keep the parents happy, or make an adult's movie, forcing more 'connect the dots' and keeping the content interesting enough for kids to enjoy. Edit: Good examples would Mary Poppins vs The Swiss Family Robinson. This is to make the distinction of how a family film was approached.

Spoken like a true MCU fan. As you watch the review as is typical of so-called MCU fans asking a million questions and having that why is this happening look on his face I knew he would say it was ok and that would be it because as usual he watched this epic movie ad an MCU fan. There was no 45 min stretch of nothing happening so he made that number up to come off as if he knew what he was talking about. His criticism of Zod not having more time to show how evil he was is also something that typical MCU fans say while living MCU movies that tell little to nothing about their villains. Example Iron Man which started it all. We only know Obedia was his fathers partner but other then that he wound up being the main villain. Same in Iron Man 2 where we knew little if whippy man and that over arms dealer but I’m sure this movie reviewer didn’t mind that. Same with Thor, Captain America, and so on. None of those had more explanations as to the background of the villains. But anyway doesn’t matter and this movie is not a 7 out of 10 that’s an insult but I’ll leave it at that.

So in this version of the Superman saga children are born via genesis birthing chambers where they are designed individually to fulfill a specific role in society. Jor-El and Lara broke with this convention when they created a natural birth.
The Kryptonian Growth Codex is an ancient Kryptonian relic made from an ancient skull containing the potential for genetic traits which can be infused into the genesis chambers. Jor-El stole this Codex to infuse directly into his son Kal-El's body. Then placed him in a craft to send him to earth. On earth Kal-El will be known as Superman.
General Zod is the military leader on Krypton. He and Jor-El have history. Zod finally decided that the council that he kept propped up was corrupt and needed to be eliminated. Unfortunately for him he was a bit late in taking this action.
Amy Adams plays Lois Lane. 😅
Superman derives his powers from a yellow sun like earth's. He is basically a solar battery. That energy provides him indestructibility, super strength, super speed, enhanced stamina, flight, heat vision, cold breath, x-ray vision, microscopic vision, telescopic hearing and telescopic vision, he can survive in space without a space suit. He is immune to heat and cold. He also has regenerative capabilities. So he definitely won the super powers lottery...lol 🤣
The biggest issue with this version of Superman was how dark it was. Normally that would be Batman territory. Superman is not supposed to kill based on how he was raised. So killing Zod was somewhat shocking. Zack Snyder was the visionary responsible. If both Batman and Superman are dark it diminishes the uniqueness of both. But what the hell do I know...lol 😆

    • @davidmeloche3563
      @davidmeloche3563 Год назад

Normally, the reason Superman doesn't kill is because he has so much power, he doesn't have to. In the instance of Zod and the other Kryptonians, they're just a s powerful as him, don't care about humanity, and actively seek the genocide of the human race. In the comics, Superman normally kills Zod and his minions. Originally, he stripped their powers, put Zod and minions in a room with kryptonite and executed them via kryptonite radiation...which isn't super fast. In Superman II (Christopher Reeve) after he crushes Zod's repowered hand into a skin glove full of gravel, he throws Zod down a ravine...at the North Pole. So Zod either died on impact with some ice, or frozen to death in the below normal freezing temperature water. Then Lois punched Ursula into the ravine...and everyone smiled and winked, lol good times...and as pointed out in the thread, this is a literal brand new Superman. Reeve's Kal had spent 12 years learning about Krypton, the universe, and himself. This Clark found out he could fly...yesterday. he threw his first punch, today. If not for his years on Earth gathering solar energy and getting used to his abilities, he wouldn't be able to take Zod out at all.

General Zod was the Supreme Commander of Krypton's military. Despite their high technology and ancient culture (Krypton has had easy interstellar technology for at least 5 million years prior to Superman being sent to Earth) the Kryptonians were Xenophobic isolationists. They had once ruled a huge interstellar empire, but by the time the events of this film occur they had only one colony left, the planet Daxam, which was nearly as developed and populated as the homeworld that was too independant to be recalled and abandoned.

    • @chandlermorgan708
      @chandlermorgan708 Год назад +1

@Gamer97704 now that's a lie, Superman has killed people.
In the 30s and early 40s he killed his enemies all the time, usually by nonchalantly throwing them off a building or something. In the fifties through the mid-eighties, he had a very strict code against killing, which would entail voluntarily giving up his powers if he ever killed someone. Ironically, during this period of ~50-85, he killed both Bizarro and a protoplasmic life-form created by Lex Luthor during his time as Superboy, explaining both times away by saying that his victims weren't truly alive. At the end of this era, in the mid eighties, he killed Mr. Mxyzptlk by tearing his fifth dimensional form in half and, no longer able to explain away his killing in his maturity, gave up his powers forever.
Next month was a reboot of the series. In this new version of the main universe, he killed General Zod and two other Kryptonians criminals with Kryptonite after they killed everyone on a parallel version of Earth. Following this event, Superman swore he'd never kill again, but was forced to kill several more times, first during his fight with Doomsday, then later he killed another General Zod. He also killed Brainiac Thirteen and Imperiex by sending them back in time into the Big Bang. There are others I'm forgetting, but basically the 80s-and-onward version of Superman claimed he'd never kill again and when he had to do it, he did it and got over it.
Anyway, in the current version of the "main universe", which started running in September of 2011, he's killed a giant planet-eating monster, a nanite duplicate of himself, and Doomsday, and I think that's it, though I could be missing something.
So basically, yeah. Several times. Superman generally prefers not to kill, but it's totally a thing he'll do if it's necessary.

The DCEU Movies in order are:
    Man of Steel
    Batman V Superman
    Wonder Woman
    Suicide Squad
Zack Snyder's Justice League (WE don't talk about the other one)
    Birds of Prey
    Wonder Woman 1984
    Aquaman
    Shazam
    The Suicide Squad
    Black Adam
    Shazam 2
    Blue Beatle
    Aquaman 2
The DC movies are largely hit or miss (mostly miss), and suffer from a great deal of studio interference. Snyder has on many occasions talked about the studio altering not only his movies, but the movies of the other directors of the DCEU. This was later confirmed by recently by James Gunn, after becoming the new studio head. By the time Gunn came on, WB had screwed up the DCEU so badly that it could no longer be salvaged. The tone of the movies varies wildly from movie to movie, and the continuity between the movies is almost nonexistent by the time the second Wonder Woman movie came out. Movies like Joker and The Batman are not part of the DCEU.

I'm 65, grew up watching both DC and Marvel cartoons in the 60's and can say they have only added about 1000% more options that you must wade through in todays culture which are based on the same concepts and tend to water down a fan/viewers interest. Just saying there aren't enough minutes in a day anymore. I'm sure you could relegate me for weeks with stories and lore of which I've never heard - that's just how it is now. The main thing is enjoy what you want and don't waste your time if something isn't working for you entertainment-wise.

You need to watch the Christopher Reeves Superman movie. It's more campy but there were a lot of inside jokes added to the movie. There was a television series in the days of black and white tv, "The Adventures of Superman". The actress who played Lois Lane in that series plays the mother of little girl named Lois on a train that young Superman races past. They changed a lot of the lore that i grew up on; so I enjoyed the DCEU. But they failed to make them as good as the Marvel movies. But before Marvel hit its stride, there were some really bad movies made. You can find them on the internet and some streaming services. For instance a couple of made for tv movies of Captain America.

An underrated movie indeed; The Cgi is great and the action- especially the fights go way too hard! But the whole things is far close from a masterpiece, a genuine "meh". Due to of course; the bland plot, the randomized event placements and finally the nightymarish innacuracies! Comic readers and Superman fans worst nightmare!
Now that you finally watched i'm just here to tell you about two very crucial things here fam. First of all is PLEASE... DO NOT TAKE THIS MOVIE SERIOUSLY because it's not really comic accurate- It's a complete butchery of the very essence of Superman... Kal-El is never edgy, never self-doubting and never dark and gritty like that! He is the type of guy who saves a kid and his mother from his abusive father by simply putting him in jail rather than one punch him to oblivion! And most importantly... HE DOES RESPECT AND VALUES HIS FATHER TO HEART. He never talks about some "oH yOu NoT mY dAd" Yes, in his eyes; Jonathan is also his father.
Secondly, Superman never lets complete city destruction happens like that! Nor does he causes it. He would literally let himself gets pummeled to a pulp for the longest time rather than just unleash, go berzerk on a Supervillain so mayhem would be left in their wake like that! This is why; being a great action-packed movie that it is, it eventually divided fanbases between two seperate fandoms; the half that didn't mind Superman being turned to a complete Homelander meets Omni-Man and the others who were triggered by the unholy slaughter of the character and its ideals.

And you said not punch into obvilion, so you think human can put General zod in jail huh? There's no place to put him any where because he strong, he can break out anytime. Superman never Let complete destruction like that? Did we watch same movie? World engine destroy metropolis and superman tried to stop it, according to your logic he didnt stop it because metropolis already in crumbled.......i bet if superman ever exist, you act the same as people in BvS where they hate him because "superman" destroyed metropolis
You sound like you never read action comic especially post crisis earth one, go read that first and Come comment here again.

@@boboboy8189 Loosen up a little pal or you might pop a nerve or two... If I was critiquing Zack Snyder himself in his face, he wouldn't react the same way you did 😆 but anyway:
      1. Yes, I stand by every word I said about the movie; The tone is somber and darker than your average "Bright hopeful optimistic Superman who saves everyone with a smile and calls it a day" No optimism whatsoever... The movie is disheartening! Too many CGI action sequences- Just to pad out the lazy plot! NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! The constant cutting back to his childhood undermined whatever slight character growth we might have connected with for old Clark. Like the whole randomized back and forth style was an exact copy of Batman Begins but the difference here is that the first one was an actual solid movie with a more solid story and organized narration / events whereas the second one is just an abomination. And you're talking about some "DiD wE wAtCh tHe SamE mOvIe?" Uh, no. We apparently didn't because it seems you were watching the movie for its action and visuals while totally overlooking the so obvious inaccuracie, the cheesy corny dialogues in this movie. And the retarded moments / interactions like that one scene where his father said "mAyBe" when Clark asked him what he was supposed to do? Let the children Die? Yeah that scene almost made me cut the trash short.
      2. I read comics, New 52 Superman Action Comics series are my favorite but why should prove anything to you like who are you you're just a random virtual person who I'm having a totally unimportant debate about some fictional character with. me you don't even know me. Btw can you clarify when the f did Kingdom Come Superman looked anything like this version of Superman? You don't even know what you're talking about KC is an Elseworlds story not Main DC universe. And the world there is dark and gritty for a reason- That's literally the format of that comic book in particular. A lot of death / destruction happened, There is no black and white anymore. Superheroes died or their loved ones did, others became old and lost hope, others were simply fed up with moral compasses- But were talking about Superman interpretation of an origin story here not Kingdom Come, the interpretation that should have been less gray, more optimistic and hopeful.
      3. BvS? Don't you even dare bring that monstrosity of a film to my attention let alone use it as an argument! I can go on a rant about this trash for eternity and it won't be enough. So yeah don't do that please and focus on the topic here. MoS; the above average movie 😆
      4. Ah, the city destruction... I wasn't referring to the World Engine at all... see see you how assume sht for the second time and straight up fail? 😆 I'm talking about his battle with Nam-Ek and later on with Zod. If you were really reading comics or know the slightest about Superman you'd know that he would never throw a villain in a train yard for sht to explode and cause further destruction than what already happened? or the fact that he drove Zod into multiple power plants because he was "eNRaGeD" when he grabbed his mother... Superman is literally the CEO of "stay calm under pressure" you never see him getting consumed by rage or any other negative emotion over anything!
      5. Let me just cut this sht short because I feel like I could write a whole novel on this disaster of a movie. Let me end it with the horrible paving and dialogue... Ok "We're having a child Zod, a boy-Child" tell me this doesn't sound like I actually wrote that sht when I was 6 yo... Wait wait I have another one... "If we please stop measuring dicks" Yeaaaah no. This is so not Superman movie. These dialogues would work in a Batman's parody attempt but not a Superman movie
With all that being said though, when Superman Legacy finally hit the theaters... You will prolly remember this comment and be like "man, that mf was right... THIS IS SUPERMAN" So let the experts and the actual Superman nerds handle it. Let James Gunn handle it not a guy who read Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns comics and tried to make Kryptonians / Amazonian hybrid race 😆😆😆😆
      Comic inaccuracy
      Cheesy dialogues
Over the top CGi fight scenes
      Horrible randomized pacing
