Awesome video I had to watch and comment again to day that you guys did a great job with the video and I did apply these tips and I have had a blast this week catching fish with my jigs thanks to bass resource !!!
Awesome tip I’ll have to try it out, your wife’s technique on setting the hook is killer love how she plants her foot and shifts body weight to drive that hook home.
Great advice! I was to the point of not fishing any jigs because I was losing so many fish on them. I then learned this type of hook set and started landing fish. Jigs are wonderful if one remembers there is no need to real down and wait to check and see if the fish has it - just reel down a bit and "pop" the hook into the fish's jaw. Thanks for sharing all the tips you share!
Good stuff Glen, Fishing on water at times and places where you get bit a lot also helps. If you don’t fish a jig a lot, and don’t fish where you get a good deal of bites, it’s tough to practice jig techniques. But what you’re preaching/teaching is definitely the good word on jigs. Keep‘ expectations coming!
Thank you for your videos! I am fairly new to fishing and you have very informative videos for learning new techniques. Jig fishing is quickly becoming my favorite technique and funnest method for pitching around docks and in and around cover near banks. Thanks!!
Just starting to use a jig you hear so many different opinions on the hook set love your vids and especially the calibration with Hank Parker keep up the great work and thank you .
I fish mostly small ponds with grassy bottoms. So fishing a jig can be a challenge. But Rocky areas are another story. I'm always trying to focus on the right hookset to give me the highest landing odds. Good video Glenn!
BassResource - Bass Fishing Techniques Awesome! Glenn I cannot seem to find how to message you here on RUclips with messenger. Can I send you a pm on bassresource.com? I do not have facebook.
Hi Justin. Just go to this page: ruclips.net/user/BassResourceabout and click the icon next to the gray flag, and you'll be able to message us. Thanks!
Awesome video very informative , I have recently picked up jigs and caught my first jig. Fish a month or so back and im stuck on them Haha all varieties whether its football. Arky , finesse , flipping , , but now I see exactly how I should be detecting the bite and setting the hook. Awesome thanks bass resource love the videos !!!
As always, thanks for another great video. When I was a beginning bass fisherman coming from a background of fly fishing and ultra-light spin fishing, this kind of hookset was difficult for me to learn to do. It almost seemed brutal!
Have to admit that I rarely use a jig despite owning a large collection. From now on I'll have one tied on. Your tips reminded me of frog fishing, just add that few extra seconds. Thanks for another great informative video.
Hi Glenn I was watching the bass pros on tv and I notice when they throw a long casting rod they don't just lob it overhead could do a video on how to properly throw a long rod !
Great info to know. I have lost too many fish and it's more than likely due to not setting the hook properly. Going to start trying your advice. Thanks a bunch for the videos!
This video described how I was intially setting the hook...wanted the fish to actually hook itself before pulling up on the rod. However I like the comment...'something must have caused my line to react because I didn't do it, so it must be a fish, so hook set it all the time'. sometimes you need it said before it clicks in..lol. Not sure if you answer questions on here, but what is a good age to stop using floats when fishing for kids. What you described is similar to how my girls fish...the float has to be carried away before they realize they have a fish and then they pull up. I guess I have taught them incorrectly. Nice quick video on something ppl do but is quite simple...thank you
Missed 4 bass this weekend on the jig all over 4 lbs. Each of them I reeled down and put steady pressure on and I literally watched the fish come up and out of the water on a couple from the force....as the jig came flying out of their mouths 😂😂😂 I think I'm gonna go back to slack line snap setting on a heavy fast tip and just accept that the castability is strange and requires some practice. I wasn't missing any jig fish when I used to snap set with a heavy pole but because I'd occasionally lose them at the boat I figured a softer rod might help but it just means you don't get a hook in them, especially with fluorocarbon which I have to use to get a bite. Lesson learned.
Wow, I am a beginner at bass and crappie fishing (I just retired from the Army and am now living life!!!). This is great information that I can teach my 6 year-old and 10 year-old daughter's!! I am looking forward to taking them out this weekend and giving this a try - thanks for the information BassResource.com!!
I have used the same technique for Texas rigged worms for years and get better hooksets, and lose fewer fish at the boat. It means I occasionally miss the light biter, but when the fish does take the worm or lizard, I get the hook solidly set.
Slack line on tgw hook set is so key, I agree (especially in a yak). It does tear a a big hole.. with the smaller bass. When you lose a big one because you didn't set the hook, you will wish you had left slack.
That is very helpful to know. Bi did not know that at all. Many people seems to consider the jig their confidence bait or fall back bait or go to. I have yet to try them much. I know I need to more. Now I know at least how to set the hook properly.
I just caught one today on a jig, hook was just in it's cheek but set so I didn't lose it when I got back on the bank. I'm glad I set it, it was a good 19 inches and foughtall the way to the bank.
I did have some confusion on this. I do a lot of finesse fishing here in the clear waters of the north. In this technic you reel into the fish and then sweep rod. But I have to agree to this hookset for these large jigs
Good God ! Thanks for making this video .... I have been doing it all wrong this whole time . I will ease into my hook set from now on instead of setting the hook like the guys on TV .Think patience .
Another great tip from you. Most peoples problem is that they get to excited and set the hook as soon as they feel a tap. That's how you hook logs and rocks.
Awesome video I had to watch and comment again to day that you guys did a great job with the video and I did apply these tips and I have had a blast this week catching fish with my jigs thanks to bass resource !!!
Nuke Kidd, glad I could help. Looking forward to hearing much more from you.

Great Tip! Slack line before set makes a lot of sense!
Awesome tip I’ll have to try it out, your wife’s technique on setting the hook is killer love how she plants her foot and shifts body weight to drive that hook home.

Nice to understand the hook set with a jig!
Great video. I haven't landed much with a jig so I'll be trying this technique this upcoming weekend.
Liked how you shown us how to do it. Might take a while to get used to that technique.
Thanks for the feedback Lazaro Casas Jr! I appreciate it.

Hi James Clouser. Thanks for the feedback and support. I look forward to hearing more from you.
New to jigs. Thanks for the tip! Will try it when I'm on the water again.
Awesome info
great information
Great info.
Love that advice on hook setting. I've lost way too many by not letting my line slack up. Thanks.
You're welcome Daryl Prindle! Thanks for watching.
thanx great tip.I have lost a few fish that threw my heavy baits,i'll give it a try.
The popping action of the slack really drives the hooks in good. I have been known to also do a hook set after the initial hook set.
good info for people starting out fishing with football jigs
Great tip
I like using jigs, and this'll help get more to the boat thanks

Man, two weekends ago I experienced this very problem three times in one outing. This explains it. Great tip Glenn!

Great! Let me know how you do!
Good video very informative.
I will have to remember this thanks for the info !
As always, thanks for another great video. When I was a beginning bass fisherman coming from a background of fly fishing and ultra-light spin fishing, this kind of hookset was difficult for me to learn to do. It almost seemed brutal!
I never knew this, thank you, Glen !
Jig fishing is a sport within itself, i learn a different approach every time i fish them
Good advice
Nice technique
Great video, I definitely need to up my game when it comes to fishing with jigs. For some reason I just don't use them as often as I should.
NJ Catch & Release, glad I can help. Thanks for subscribing as well.
First I need to get a fish to come after the jig, then I'll be able to apply this hook set info. Thanks for the tips. As usual, a great video.

Glad to help, Daniel Wagoner. Let me know how it works out as I would love to see the results.
Nice tip Glen. A little slack line goes a long way.
Great info. I have a hard time detecting bites on jigs.
Nice advice. My go to lure is a jig with Rage Lobster.
Great point to remember ... patience is a virtue. Committing to the wait is the toughest part.
Thanks. You answered a question I’ve had for awhile

You're welcome dacajun56! Thanks for watching.
Awesome video. I rarely fish with jigs bc I don't have any confidence in em due to losing so many. This is probably why I didn't catch as many
Awesome info this happen especially to me the other day, I’ll try to remember to keep a little slack in the line next time
Great! Let me know how you do!
What about targetting perch with jigs? Setting the hook this hard would definitely destroy it’s mouth.
Hi Glenn I was watching the bass pros on tv and I notice when they throw a long casting rod they don't just lob it overhead could do a video on how to properly throw a long rod !
That's a tip I will definitely use.
Great video 👍

Thanks for the info This just happened to me last weekend using a Jig . It might’ve been my personal best but it got away. Thanks again for the info
Hi Tony Perri, glad I could provide value.
thanks!
Thanks for the hook set tips but I have never had luck on a jig.
