The more fuel a plane has when landing the harder it is on the landing gear and frame. So fuel amount is based on destination and a bit of reserve and no more. That'ss why airplanes dump fuel in emergencies

Also, an aircraft does have a maximum takeoff weight and a maximum landing weight, and the landing weight is considerably lower than the takeoff weight. So perhaps the alternative to offloading fuel would be to circle around in the sky in order to burn fuel until the plane is light enough to land... Actually, airlines do what is called tankering. If an airport has very expensive jet fuel, say because of location or taxes, the airline might have extra fuel put on inbound aircraft, so that it doesn't have to buy as much fuel.
Both Chicago airports have expensive fuel due to taxes. So, a plane that is scheduled for MSP-ORD-ATL might fly with a heavy fuel load our of MSP to avoid fueling at ORD.
Of course, the number of passengers, checked bags, mail, and cargo, as well as the weather at ORD and ATL are also factored.

As a San Antonian, I’m glad you got to explore the beautiful city I call home!
I am an aircraft fueling. I used to work in CID and now I am TPA. Defueling a plane is not an easy task to do. Some companies will not defuel a plane. I been fueling planes for 7yrs now but in the airline/aviation field for 20yrs now. I was with American Eagle airlines and Delta for almost 10yrs. You have such positive attitude towards everything I thank you for that. You do a great job. If you ever come to TPA let me know.

Awesome ! The uniform is perfect !👍 Removing fuel is for many really good reasons, Max take off and max landing weights.
And possibly if not needed why carry it. The rule is enough fuel for destination and alternate airport if needed + 45 min reserve. Anything more than that is just carrying excessive weight that also causes more consumption. I’ll bet I’ve missed many more reasons but got the important ones. Keep up the great work........ I am so glad that you were able to stay in a hotel on the Riverwalk in San Antonio. Isn't it a pretty city? You look so nice and professional in your new uniform. It's quite smart looking. I’m an aircraft dispatcher at a competing airline. The defuel was to assure the aircraft was below max landing weight in SAT. The fuel burn DFW-SAT was so much lower than DFW-PHX that you would have been over the landing weight limited max takeoff weight (max landing weight + fuel burn = landing weight limited max takeoff weight). It had nothing to do with costs or anything else other than the structural limits of the jet. And narrow body aircraft can’t dump fuel as some have suggested. Since you are in DFW I think you would love a visit to the IOC (Operations Control Center) to see what dispatchers and others do to keep the operation safe and efficient. It might have to wait until the Covid-19 thing is resolved though.

2:01, I think that the gas could leak then they could have a fire on board or maybe run out of fuel earlier than it should

As to the off loading of fuel it probably was an issue of total landing weight but the issue is not structural. The problem is about overheating the brakes because you must apply more force to stop a heavily loaded aircraft. The distance between your destinations would not have used sufficient fuel to be within landing load limits. That is why you often hear that the crew is dumping fuel in air or circling for hours before they can land during emergencies so as to use up the fuel if the aircraft does not have dumping capability. Of course it also happens to use less fuel if you weigh less. Like the new outfits.

You are not excited about going to San Antonio? I think the riverwalk you were speaking of is part of where they filmed Knight Rider 2000 back in 1991.. being a Knight Rider nerd--yes that's something I would know, it looks like that's where you were. very cool. Did you go to the basement of the Alamo to find Pee Wees bike? How about your opinion of the airport at Atlanta.. that place is so big it was always freaking amazing. For a place to be so big to accommodate so many people and that place is always so hectic but it gets the job done..though I'm speaking as someone that hasn't seen the place in 5 years now. Back when I flew a lot I made it a point to fly through there since the place is awesomely huge. New uniforms look very professional.

was not a serious question regarding the Alamo..it was poking fun at the plot of a 1985 movie Pee Wees Big Adventure.. a fortune teller told him his bike was stolen and being held in the basement of the Alamo. He went there only to find out that the Alamo didn't have a basement.

The main reso`reason most likely for NOT wanting extra foul on the plain is that the heaver the aircraft the longer distance is required on the runway & also the shorter distance the air craft can go becouse the heavier the aircraft is the more fuel is needed for the same distance .
loved breaking bad, thats got to be another perk of being a flight attendant! I imagine you see celebrities often and they are kind of forced to interact with you lol! Being from northern Canada, seeing a celebrity for me is very rare!

I'm a bartender right now. I've never made that drink before, but I bet it's because of the spiced whiskey which would probably taste like a spiced apple cocktail. Sounds kind of nice. I don't remember any weird ones, but when people ask for irish car bombs I hate it. A shot of Irish cream, Irish whiskey that gets plunged into a glass of stout. you have to then drink it before the cream curdles, yuck. lol

I haven’t worn it for a long haul yet, but it was great for the one day I’ve worn it thus far ☺️ haha Eric was a bit tired making us dinner but coming home to him & Luna is the highlight of my day! ✈️
I always have wondered about the logistics of a commercial flight. You give a really interesting behind the scenes look. As to the fuel; penny pinching. At least you get to get out and move around.

@@JettingJulia I'm thinking it all adds up. How many flights does the airline fly monthly? They must buy the fuel in mass quantities. Great videos. The uniforms look good but it's another thing to worry about.
For the uniform I preferred the old one, that makes it a little US Marine Corps attendant, but with you in it, it gives it a better style.

Since they change the Destiination the original destinations quantity of gas was calculated for the distance to there. The new destinations quantity of gas is less which means that you had too much mass on the plane which would cost too much money to carry the extra gas
There is lots of variables of why they would drain fuel, I am guessing the plane going to PHX may have been over max landing weight ....it could be because of something restrictive (MEL) wise with the aircraft and couldn’t do the trip to PHX. Without knowing the circumstances, it’s really hard to say what happens. They wouldn’t drain fuel to save money - the cost to carry that fuel isn’t really that much more - the delay would cost more than the fuel...as a Dispstcher, I try to make it work when we are over fueled - flying lower burns more fuel than flying higher..I am guessing it was something to do with a limitation on the aircraft.

they remove fuel because the plane would otherwise be too heavy when landing and could cause issues with the landing gear. every flight has a specific fuel calculation to ensure a proper landing weight.

Jack Daniel’s would work with apple juice as long as it isn’t over-sweetened, so preferably fresh-squeezed. Or maybe cut it with a dash of soda water. A warning though that I was probably one of the worst people serving drinks.

I don't drink alcoholic beverages but a long-ago friend said the worst he ever tasted was Chivas Regal 12 year old Scotch, and Hawaiian Punch. I cannot even imagine what a horrible drink that would be. Thanks for the video, and congrats on now 26.6 subscribers. Jon

Do you use anything to sleep well at the Hotels? I used to use a white noise machine called a “Dohm Classic” from Amazon. I always have trouble sleeping through slamming doors at hotels.
I used to take melatonin or tylonel pm but lately I’ve been sleeping okay without them (except the occasional night like this trip where I don’t sleep well through the night).
it could be a weight issue, the plane can be to heavy to land, and its also a cost issue, fuel prices could be cheaper for your airline at certain airports, so that is always something to keep in mind
Simple answer. Planes have max landing weights and max takeoff weights.
The max takeoff weight is heavier than the max landing weight because you burn the fuel during flight to get the plane at or below the Max landing weight (MLW)

You look absolutely gorgeous in the new uniform, I was a little not sure about the blouse design but it's actually elegant and professional. Love it! Fuel must have something to do with weigh balance, I read flight dispatchers must make sure that people+baggage+fuel all is well balanced or it might be dangerous! And about coronavirus, haven't you heard anything about making passengers and crew wear masks during flight? I mean it would make sense, most of infected people came in an airplane from either China or Italy. Cool Vlog!

Uniform looks great! If I understand the news right, younger people are more safe and if it comes to wearing a mask a nurse says only mask NP5 are safe. Not knowing what city you were in, reminds me of a famous rock group giving a concert in Louisville Ky. in the late 70's when they got on stage the lead singer said "Hello Lexington!" lol
