I've been painting for years, actually quit for a long time because I can never get this level of detail into my work. Picking it up again, I've watched a bunch of your videos. The work is gorgeous! You're so sweet and the advice is spot on! Wishing you all the best!
Hi mikko! Just wanna say this video helped me a lot! I’m currently spending quarantine teaching myself how to do concept art and digital painting, your videos have been super informative and helpful. You explain things so clearly and I love how you view landscapes! Thank you ❤️
Thanks for the reminder of the time it takes to complete a painting. Phew! Thanks also for brain hacks! The lasso tool trick reminded me of paper cutouts to help with a compositional base.
My pleasure 😇 just occurred to me that I’ve been using this technique for over 13 years now. It also helped me to understand how to paint other aspects of the landscape too because getting to that chaos part is very very difficult. I’m inclined to think that it’s something that is not possible to shake out like a bad habit but with a checklist it’s easy to spot when you know just what to look for.
@@angrymikko i completely agree. I for example, always find myself adding symmetry to my landscapes, even if im actively trying to make it seem randomized. Just like what you said in the video ;0;
WTF Mikko?!?! Are you reading my mind? I was looking on pinterest this morning for mountains images and i ended up by searching for vector mountains. I will study this one a few time and hope it will step up my mountain painting game. Big thumbs up and keep the content coming!
I loved the comment about the magical moment when painting stops being a picture and starts to become a real landscape in your mind. It’s beautiful Mikko. Also you mentioned a painter who was one of your influences but I couldn’t catch the name , who was it and who else has influenced you? I have been to your exciting city Helsinki, but it was Springtime ...I don’t think I could stand the dark winters, don’t forget the vitamin D! Thank you for this very informative posting.
Albert Bierstadt! He was a German-American painter and his Yosemite painting was pretty much the main reason why I even wanted to go there :) maybe someday. Those serpentine roads were just terrifying though. Hope you enjoyed your time in here. I understand that it’s not an exciting place to visit but it’s a really nice place to live. Stuff just works. Free healthcare and schools. I hope that never changes.
Also I take vitamin D pills every morning. I’m not sure if there’s enough scientific evidence that they’re effective but at least they’re harmless like mints.
angrymikko , thank you for the information Mikko, I will look up Albert. In England we know very Little about the great wealth of American art. We had a lovely time in Helsinki, thank you and your right real sunshine is better than Tablets. I’m looking forward to the Spring .
i love every single painting you have done. they are amazing! some of the best ive ever seen with that said i hate how easy you make it look lol. I sit down to try to paint something and it is just a giant blob of nothing. Keep making amazing art and inspiring us! You are amazing! much love
Man.... your art is just amazing !!!!! You make me travel !!! Thanks ! 🙂 I try to make beautiful landscape like this, it's difficult but your videos really helps !
Love your paintings. I started to draw couple of days back, I am learning. It is very frustrating but I think since I started new and learning, this frustration of not able to draw what is in my mind would go away with time. I like to do landscape painting but I struggles a lot and get frustrated easily when I can’t figure out the right color and shades of color for a mountain and snow. I can really use your suggestions.
In the videos I’ve shot since spring, I now have a parabolic diffuser for a forza light so I’m no longer dependent on the 2 minutes of sunshine we have here during winter (: (it’s insanely huge and takes up literally half of the room but I think it shows in the quality of the footage and it’s so much easier to edit too)
Mikko, thanks so much for the videos you provide. Do you have any online class type material or can you point me in the right direction when it comes to the method of painting you do? I'm really interested in the way you paint, especially with the video where you started with just doodling colours and it turned in to a beautiful piece, can't remember which one it was now. I guess most of yours start like that! hehe
I’m trying to reverse engineer this painting but at 7.42 mark the mountain gains a boost on texture , it’s like from low res to high res, can you explain how to achieve that? I bought the skypainting course, i would by another for you just to paint something like that!
I only use one brush at a time. This brush is one from my brushes for painters set. None of the brushes in the set are needed to use the techniques described in my videos.
Hi Mikko, Why do you mirror the painting during the Video? Do you have a link to your pallets, brushes and maybe some Tutorials online? Thanks ans Regards Dennis
Hey Dennis, not Mikko of course, but I believe he mirrors it to get a new perspective on it. His brushes are available on gumroad, search angrymikko. In this video he uses MikkoRull from his brush set.
Literally any. CSP, Painter, PS I've used all of them and the software makes no difference to the process. Even this tutorial is 100% applicable on all of them. I suggest getting the cheapest one and spending the money on art education from an art teacher.
This is the kind of landscape painting I do in traditional media. Learning how to achieve this in a digital application like procreate is just like learning to paint all over again. It’s been frustrating and a real chore sometimes. BTW, this is an excellent painting!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Just MikkoRull for the whole thing. It’s close to NikkoRull in functionality but it’s round and the pressure setting makes it easier to do low opacity strokes.
This video is about the selection tool for painting the mountain ridge. You can use the technique with any brush you like. I always use only 1 brush / painting. the brush you choose isn't important and I recommend not spending too much with that choice.
One tip Mikko....don’t hold your coffee cup over your iPad.
Lol sorry, I do that all the time. It’s known to cause some anxiety to innocent bystanders 🐻
Living on the edge bro..... dont be boring.
I held my breath!

How have I not stumbled into your work before? This is so so beautiful!
ever since i saw your ghibli style painting tutorial i keep comming back
you are a source of inspiration my dude
Man, you're so talented! I'm moved and motivated when I see your work. I wish you all the best! Cheers!

I’ve seen people use the lasso tool but never touched it myself. Seems like an amazing time-saver. Thanks for the tips Mikko! 😁
Literally cuts minutes off the whole process and it also helps to avoid some of those unconscious composition mistakes.

Thank you for this. I took your advice and attempted to re-draw a mountain view that I had done and the mountains already look so much better.
Glad it helped! Always nice to hear that people don't just watch a video but actually roll up their sleeves and make something 🎉
@@angrymikko currently trying the same, getting annoyed because I can't achieve what I want as I do not know how yet, but practise is key!
dayum this is so human! love it :]]
Thanks for your video. Will use the ideas for an procreate animation video
Your words and your art, both are very to me. I just want to leave a „thank you“ and wish you all the best.
Im very thankfull of all the videos you've made ❤️
Love the way you think and your style is amazing🤙🏽

Keep making amazing art and inspiring us! You are amazing! much love
Every painting is a giant blob of nothing until it’s done.
Man.... your art is just amazing !!!!! You make me travel !!! Thanks ! 🙂 I try to make beautiful landscape like this, it's difficult but your videos really helps !
Great work, keep it up Mikko!
Really find your videos so helpful! And you are so nice too. Subbed 👍🏻☺️
I love Albert Bierstadt as well! Definitely try to find a way to visit Colorado/Rockies or the Sierra Nevada range.
It’s beautiful, thank you for sharing❤️
Your tutorials are really good full of details😩unfortunately i couldn’t buy the ipad but one day i can i know ur channel will be a great help
Love this.. Can u show us ur Paintings when u started doing it? Im a beginner so i would love to see how u drew when u were a beginner too.. Thnku

You should make an artificial sun using an lcd TV. I think DiyPerks has a good video about this

Nice work, l like it very much, you have new follower my friend...👌😊🙂👍👏🖌🖼
Are there any custom brushes you used for this
I only use one brush at a time. This brush is one from my brushes for painters set. None of the brushes in the set are needed to use the techniques described in my videos.
Is it possible to list the bushes you used? Thanks
This was done with my Mikko Rull brush
…
End of list.
You are so good 👍

What software do you recommend to a beginner on Windows?
Literally any. CSP, Painter, PS I've used all of them and the software makes no difference to the process. Even this tutorial is 100% applicable on all of them. I suggest getting the cheapest one and spending the money on art education from an art teacher.

Where do you live that it remains dark for so long?!
Finland 🇫🇮 currently the sun doesn’t set at all. It’s perfectly bright at 1am :) much easier to make videos \o/
SHaaaadoowwwwzzz
Are we sure that Mikko isn't Bob Ross reincarnated?🤔
Yes we are.
Art is hard.
That’s all the proof you should need 🐻
You look like Hughie from The Boys
What brush do you use?
Just MikkoRull for the whole thing. It’s close to NikkoRull in functionality but it’s round and the pressure setting makes it easier to do low opacity strokes.
Thanks👍
your works amazing but you're too fast, i am new to procreate and could'nt follow how you did things or even what brushes to use

Your boyfriend... (cry loud) I like you but I m a girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
